Crusade: Countdown to the End of the World - Issue 50

{Location: Everglades Florida, the Base of the Chemical Thieves}

Launch sequence has commenced. Man your stations! Man your Stations! Launch will commence in 110 seconds.

On level A

[11] Skink struck at the scaly protection of Alligator with his claws.

SLASSH! His claws tore across the scaly hide. Alligator rolled with the damage, he could continue to fight.
{GM: to Hit: 9, Rolled: 9, Damage Points Rolled: 24}

[ 9] White Heron swoop down at Evergreen slashing with her claws.

SLASSH! The Winged Aviatrix raked her claws across Evergreen’s shoulder.
{GM: to Hit: 15, Rolled: 5, Damage Points Rolled: 10, Power Points: -4, Hit Points: -6}

[ 8] TicToc made a guttural sound as he sensed the other reptiles in the room. The younger one was familiar and some instinct told him he was part of the 'bask'. However the other creature was the interloper, the one who had come to threaten TicToc's domination of the bask. He let out a throaty roar of challenge and ran towards Alligator snapping his jaws as he attacked, swinging his tail aggressively.

CHOMP! TicToc bit Alligator. The Reptile Ruffian cried out in pain. He was hurt but he could continue to fight.
{GM: to Hit: 17, Rolled: 14, Damage Points Rolled: 16}

[ 6] Upon hearing the countdown start, The Black Orchid blurted out, "Oh hell no!"

She abandoned the fight and scanned the room for anything that looks like an appropriate control panel. Not finding it on Level A, Black Orchid went down to Level B without friend or foe knowing she had left. She was still invisible. Black Orchid searched level by level until she found the control panel on Level D.

[ 5] Evergreen clutched her bleeding shoulder. Above her on the exterior island, her animated plants dropped the two Prime Squadron guards into the swamp. The plants moved back through the hole created by Adamas. The plants reached out for the wings of White Heron.

SNATCH! The animated plants grappled the Winged Aviatrix.

[ 5] Evergreen charged the stuck White Heron, attempting to slash her with her thorns.
{GM: to Hit: 13, Rolled: 17, Missed}

[ 3] The two Prime Squadron guards fled from the island as fast as they could.

On level B

[ 5] "The reports on Spyder were not embellished, he is obviously very dangerous." The Bionic Brawler thought to himself.  "I need to stop him and Tank Gunner, just in case the team needs my help with the missiles." StrikeForce's movements betrayed no emotion to his enemies. Cool and calculated in his demeanor the Cyborg Crusader readied himself for the fight for his life. "This thug was involved in the death of Freedom Eagle, I cannot allow myself to be at his mercy, as it seems that he has none." Using his staff StrikeForce attempted to take down The Inhuman League's leader.
{GM: to Hit: 15, Rolled: 16, Missed}

[ 3] The Spyder smiled a very cruel smile. “I have studied you. I know your fighting style. I have detected your weakness!” Spyder attacked with a palm heel strike to StrikeForce’s chest.

BAM! StrikeForce rolled with the damage that his armor couldn’t protect him from. The Spyder flipped up to the ceiling to continue to face his foe.
{GM: to Hit: 26, Rolled: 15, Damage Points Rolled: 10, Protection: -6, Power Points: -4, Hit Points: -0}

[ 2] Tank Gunner screamed “I have not yet begun to fight!” as he charged StrikeForce with his bayonet!
{GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 18, Missed}

On Level E

Dr Wildman in dragonfly mode flew the 50 or so feet to perch on the nose cone of the missile using the jets of steam and vapors from the engines and coolant hoses to hide his presence. The noise of the missiles going through launch mode was almost overwhelming. He was grateful that his own mind was mystically in charge of this insect form. From his vantage point he looked at the scenario around him. He still marveled that the ability to transform into all manner of creatures also allowed him to process information through the creature’s senses. 270 degree vision was a wonder to behold! Below him Adamas was nursing his head from an attack that seemed to have come from the character he passed in the corridor; 'presumably that was Psi Prime' he mused. From the scorch marks along the engine area it was obvious even Adamas vaunted vision blasts couldn't penetrate the missile's engine shielding.

[ 9] Adamas pushed his strength as he tried to tear a hole in the missile.

Rip! The metal protecting the missile bent and screeched as the Alien Dynamo created a hole.
{I considered this a Multi-attack of HtH & Power Blast. GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 12, Damage Points Rolled: 12, Ripped a 1 foot hole in the armor plating on the Missile. It is 5” in game terms}

Once he had the opening Adamas start blasting internal circuitry.

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast damaged the missile’s engine assembly.
{GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 10, Damage Points Rolled: 11}

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast bounced of the missile’s armor paneling.
{GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 20, Missed}

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast damaged the missile’s engine assembly.
{GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 15, Damage Points Rolled: 7}

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast damaged the missile’s engine assembly.
{GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 11, Damage Points Rolled: 6}

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast damaged the missile’s engine assembly.
{GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 13, Damage Points Rolled: 8}

The missile was severely damage and its engine was completely destroyed.

[ 7] Previously Psi-Prime made his save against Manta Man’s paralysis attack.. He turned and looked at Manta-Man with a new respect. “Yes, you are right. There are more threats here that just the one.”

Psi-Prime reached into the pouch at his side. He removed a handful of coins from it.

Manta-Man looked closely at the coins. “Does are German Deutschmarks just like the one we found at the military base. Interesting that an American supervillian wouldn’t be using American Dollars but then if Psi-Prime is really Dr. Velo; it all makes perfect sense, now doesn’t it”

“Verdammt Nochmal!” was all that Psi-Prime could scream in frustration as Manta-Man revealed his secret. With is velocity inducing powers he accelerated the coins toward their target.

KABLAM! Dozens of coins at maximum velocity slammed into Manta-Man’s electrical shield. It stopped some but not enough at he was knocked out from the blows.
{GM: to Hit: 10, Rolled: 9, Damage Points Rolled: 22, Protection: -8, Power Points: -6, Hit Points: -8}

[ 3] Manta-Man laid on the floor knocked out unable to fight.

[ 2] Dr Wildman considered the conundrum before him. The missiles were well protected and sealed tight. To knock them off course would still have catastrophic consequences, they only had to get into the ocean. Decision made then - the missiles had to stay here. Whatever happens; the launch must never go off. Orchids chemical retardant would negate the effects as long as they could administrate it effectively. StrikeForce and Skink were keeping the Inhuman League busy, given the chatter on the communicators. Evergreen and Orchid were dealing with the troops and Manta Man was taking on the insidious scientist of psyche. That left him and Adamas to deal with the missiles. So that was the plan, stop the launch and keep the missiles in the silo. What to do...what to do?

Looking in the silo launch tube the heroes could see at the top that the silo doors were slowly opening. This was done by automatic mechanism. A fluid was being pumped into the missiles. Even Adamas' excellent ethereal vision couldn't distinguish if it was missile fuel or Dr. Velo's special compound. The braces holding the missiles in place had not begun to retract yet.

There was no sign of any command and control computer equipment in the Silo. They must be in a different location in the base than with the missiles.

Dr Wildman took off and headed to the slowly opening silo doors, slipping between the gaps into the open air of the surface.

With a familiar flash of emerald eldritch energy where once a dragonfly stood perched on the retreating silo doors, now stood the figure of the dynamic druid Dr Wildman. Slipping the hood of his jacket over his head two pinpoints of light began to glow under the shadow of his cowl. Pinpoints flared and lightning arced between the points where the Dr's eyes should be. He looked up to examine the heavens and took a deep breath as if readying himself for a mighty task.

SWOOSH! Dr Wildman summoned the coldest weather conditions he could muster flash freezing the mechanical systems of the silo doors preventing them from opening.
{GM: to Hit: 5, Rolled: 3, Damage Points Rolled: 3, Door areas are encased in ice. The Ice Break Point is 13. The doors will need to roll greater than 13 on 2d8 to continue opening. Dr. Wildman can continue to Ice Blast the area adding more Ice Break Points until it reaches it maximum of 24 Break Points.}

Launch sequence has commenced. Man your stations! Man your Stations! Launch will commence in 100 seconds.

OOC: The extra game detail is really helpful Tom, it gives that tabletop feel. Understanding the mechanics of what is going on adds to the narrative - thanks.

IC: TicToc made a guttural sound as he sensed the other reptiles in the room. The younger one was familiar and some instinct told him he was part of the 'bask'. OOC: Tom - using the Dragonfly's ability to see in all directions at once is this simply a silo? Is there an automatic hatch that is opening in the ceiling as the countdown continues? Is there an observation point where flight control are operating the launch that can be seen?

OOC: Issue 50 of The New Crusaders! Excelsior True Believers!

IC: "The reports on Spyder were not embellished, he is obviously very dangerous." The Bionic Brawler thinks to himself.  " I need to stop him and Tank Gunner, just in case the team needs my help with the missiles." StrikeForce's movements betray no emotion to his enemies. Cool and calculated in his demeanor the Cyborg Crusader readies himself for the fight for his life. Using his staff (while pushing damage) StrikeForce will attempt to take down The Inhuman League's leader.

Dr Wildman [still in dragonfly form] takes off and heads to the slowly opening silo doors, slipping between the gaps into the open air of the surface.

OOC: Tom, is it obvious as to what the opening mechanism of the silo doors is? Do the doors lever up or retreat into the ground? Is it a hydraulic system or a mechanical one?

Steve
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The doors retreat into the ground. It is a mechanical system.

Thanks
Tom

Upon hearing the countdown start, The Black Orchid blurts out, "Oh hell no!"
She will then abandon the fight and scan the room for anything that looks like an appropriate control panel.
If not she'll start descending down. (I assume she needs to spend the round actively searching)

Marc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: I was wondering if anyone on our team, that is aware of Black Orchid' s intentions can break away and go with her and watch her back while she tries to hack the middle controls?

Jamey
--------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: Since the Black Orchid has been invisible the whole time I am not sure if anyone would know where her back was to protect it.

Tom

OOC: O.k.

OOC: Dr Wildman will push whatever action he needs to do to make the weather really cold, really quickly.

Steve,

I am playing out the turn this week as my waiting period for later submissions is over. As I play out your turn I have used 2 power points to up the Change Weather chances. To change from Clear weather to Blizzard in one turn would mean rolling a 5 or less on d20.

If change weather was over 2 turns it would be from Clear to Snow that would be a 15 or less then next turn from Snow to Blizzard rolling a 9 or less.

If change weather was over 3 turns it would be Clear to Snow: 15 or less, Snow to Thunderstorm: 15 or less, Thunderstorm to Blizzard: 13 or less.

Do you want to risk it all on a 5 or less roll of a 1d20? or do you want to try it over multiple turns. If multiple how many.

A reminder the game combat turns are over 10 seconds, so it time I am asking to you want to spend between 10 to 30 seconds getting it change.

Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom,

I think it’s an all or nothing from Dr Wildman! Go for it!

If his use of the Cowl of Storms fails to work it will mean trying another avenue - there are always options when you have to stop two 50 foot missiles from completely destroying the worlds ecosystem!

Steve
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Adamas will push his strength and try to tear a hole in the missile.  Once he has even the smallest opening he'll start blasting internal circuitry.

We have to make sure this thing doesn't get out of the silo.

We can't have it crashing down in the swamp.
