Origin:
A forensic accountant (in training) for the FBI who, on his own time, got the goods on a high tech weapons manufacturer. (He has proof that they were selling weapons to terrorist states or making gadgets for the mafia, etc.) Instead of turning them in, he blackmails them into straightening themselves out while turning over his best stuff to them. They modify his DNA to give him the attributes of a beetle and charge his body with enough energy that he can project it in blasts. In his spare time he has been investigating how to reinforce is costume with a rudimentary exoskeleton- but he is still in just early concept design stages for that. He also wants to build a camouflaged plant-able recording device. He currently lacks the capital to make much of these early inventing ideas, though.  

Midnight Bug has something of an illegitimate reputation as a provocateur and freelance agent specializing in industrial espionage, but he is really a straight up good guy that doesn't do what he does for money. His low charisma means he doesn't automatically get a negative reaction from bad guys. Sometimes they offer to hire him or attempt to placate him by offering to bring him in on their action. He welcomes such an opportunity to gather info on his enemies. Then he uses it against them to expose and destroy them.

Right now his actual resources are somewhat limited. He doesn't completely trust the company he got his powers from, and is encouraging them to get out of the whole super-powered weapons thing, anyway. But he is slowly gathering a set of files with information on the high-tech black market and works to cultivate a list of contacts in that world.
