Crusade: Issue 65 - Self-Destruct Protocol Initiated



Deck A of the Doomsday Robot.

[13] Adamas decided to forget the hatch and just go through the floor, straight down.  He realized without Manta-Man and Laserfire as distractions Doom was going to focus on Adamas, but so far he's weathered those attacks almost as well as he withstood Adamas'.

BAM! Adams punched a fist into the floor.

{GM Note: Adamas needed to roll anything but a 20 to hit. He rolled a 2. Adamas rolled 13 points of damage, the floor’s structure rating was 9. He did 4 points of damage to the floor.}

BAM! Adams punched his other fist into the floor.

{GM Note: Adamas needed to roll anything but a 20 to hit. He rolled a 2. Adamas rolled 11 points of damage, the floor’s structure rating was 9. He did 2 points of damage to the floor. The combined damage of 6 points of damage together opened a 3 foot hole.}

Adamas flew through the hole down into the heart of the Doomsday Robot.

[ 2] CyberDoom reviewed the damage to the head unit of his Robot. He realized it wouldn’t be long before the New Crusaders put the robot out of commission once and for all. CyberDoom activated his thrusters and flew into the sky. He took evasive maneuvers and prepared counter measures in case he was pursued.

Deck E of the Doomsday Robot.

 Dr. Wildman stared at the energy pistol and then at Hawkins, then back to the energy pistol.
 
"That's it! I've had enough of this!" sighed Dr Wildman.
 
"Bloody technology..." He threw the pistol over his shoulder..."I've seen Storm Troopers on Star Wars with better aim than me! - I'd do more damage with a stick!"
 
"A stick you say? They've worked out pretty well for me my friend. If you were looking for a lesson, I'd be glad to oblige when we get done with all of this." StrikeForce replied.
 
Suddenly the whole robot seemed to rock as if struck by a vast force..."Well someone’s doing something helpful at least" he mused picking himself off the floor. StrikeForce thought to himself, "Wow, great job, keep up the good work."
 
[ 7] The Cyberion focused its targeting systems on StrikeForce. The Guardian Robot fired dual blasts at the Bionic Brawler.
 
BRRZZT! StrikeForce rolled with the blast. He rolled with it barely feeling any pain the Bionic Brawler was still standing. He could continue fighting.
 
{GM Note: Cyberion needed a 17 to hit or less, it rolled a 9. CyberDoom did 7 points of damage. StrikeForce’s armor protected him from 6 points. The Bionic Brawler rolled with 1 point, -1PP.}
 
BRRZZT! The Nanite Enhanced Hero withstood the second blast. It was stronger than the first. StrikeForce was still standing; soon he would launch his attack.
 
{GM Note: Cyberion needed a 17 to hit or less, he rolled a 12. CyberDoom did 15 points of damage. StrikeForce’s armor protected him from 6 points. The Bionic Brawler rolled with 6 points, -6 PP. StrikeForce lost -3 Hit Points. Cyberion’s power blast does not cause knock back.}
 
[ 6] StrikeForce changed his attack from defensive to offensive.
 
Turning his attention to his opponent, he said. "Looks like it's just you and me now."
 
WHIF! The escrima missed the right side of the Cyberion.
 
{GM Note: StrikeForce needed a 13 to hit or less, he rolled a 19. StrikeForce missed with his first attack.}
 
KRAK! The escrima smashed into the chest of the Cyberion. Pieces of its armor flew into the air. The Robotic Guardian smashed into the wall behind it but it was still standing. StrikeForce could tell that its armor was weakened but he knew the Cyberion was still able to fight.
 
{GM Note: StrikeForce needed a 13 to hit or less, he rolled a 5. He rolled 21 points of damage. Cyberion’s armor protected him from some of it. The Cyberion has ablative armor which StrikeForce’s total damage points exceeded its total Armor value. This caused the armor to be reduced by 1. A random roll determined which damage type of protection was reduced by 1. The Cyberion rolled with about half of the remaining damage, The Hit Point loss was greater than its mass roll. The Cyberion was knocked back into the wall.}

[ 3] Dr Wildman looked again at his watch - nine minutes until dawn.
 
He thought 'OK, let's at least be outside before this thing does something stupid and I'm stuck in here!'
 
"Sorry Hawkins, you're on your own buddy..." he gave a friendly tap on the back of the android and grabbed the First Aid bag.” Strike, I've had enough, I'm no use to anyone at the moment so I'm getting out of here. See you outside in a bit."
 
Dr Wildman walked to the entrance he came in from and made his way downstairs, muttering and grumbling to himself - clearly in a very foul mood with himself and his situation. He checked his watch for the umpteenth time...still another 8 and a half minutes to go!
 
As Dr. Wildman exited, StrikeForce called back, "Watch your back, I'll join you as soon as I can."

Deck C of the Doomsday Robot.


[13] Adamas came through the ceiling hatch into C Deck.
 
[ 7] The Black Orchid saw the new addition next to Patty. "Who is that? Hmm, Looks like he's on our side though. Good."
 
She then turned her attention to the operators at the console and smiled as she thought to herself "Amateurs! They don't know the meaning of disruption." She moved over to block the self destruct button the best she could and then proceeded to fill the room with the complete blackness of nothing. The Black Orchid then said to the group from within the darkness as automatically and authoritatively as she could.
 
"Attention. Self-destruct protocol has been initiated. Darkness is a counter measure to prevent disabling the sequence. Please be at least 1000 feet away to minimize danger to your personal safety. 30 second countdown starts now: 30..., 29...,"
 
[5] The crew of the Doomsday Robot heard the countdown as the Command Center’s microphones was on. The majority of the crew panic fleeing from the robot. Cavagnaro and Androvich wasn’t fooled. They tried yelling that it was a trick but the others wouldn’t listen.
 
{GM Note: Black Orchid’s trick required all the crew of the Doomsday Robot to make as Intelligence save to see through her trick. All of them had an IN save of 11. Black Orchid can apply here IN save minus 10 (14-10) as opposition to their save. They needed a 7 or less to making their saving throw to perceive this was a trick. Only 2 of the crew made their saves.}
 
Caufield and Krajovic ran through the exit in the back of the Command Center. Hawkins became lost in the darkness, he couldn’t find the door. Even though the others had opened it Black Orchid’s powers prevented the light from penetrating the darkness.
 
{GM Note: The crew had to make a perception test to make their way through the darkness. The difficulty rating provided a -3 to the save because Black Orchid’s darkness is beyond normal. All of them had an IN save of 8. Only 2 of the crew made their save.}
 
Cavagnaro did not abandon her post. She knew the self destruction device had not been activated. She listened closely to the voice tricking the others. If she could find where the sound was coming from …
 
{GM Note: The Cavagnaro had to make a perception test to be able to attack Black Orchid. Black Orchid speaking allowed her to roll using her hearing for the perception test.  She needed an IN save of 11 or less. She rolled a 6. This is a normal success. Cavagnaro could attack Black Orchid with a -3 difficulty to her attack.}
 
BAM! Cavagnaro’s fist connected with flesh. She punched Black Orchid. Black Orchid rolled with the punch. She was still standing and guarding the self destruct switch.
 
{GM Note: Cavagnaro needed to roll 10 or less to hit. She rolled a 10. Cavagnaro rolled 9 points of damage. Black Orchid rolled with 9 points of damage, -9 PP.}

 


Outside of the Doomsday Robot


[ 9]  Demolisher was trapped in the grip of the giant left hand of the Doomsday Robot. The Giant Mechanical Menace squeezed its fist in an attempt to crush Demolisher. He withstood the attempt rolling with the damage.

{GM Note: Doomsday Robot did not need to roll to hit since it has Demolisher grappled. It rolled 24 points of damage. Demolisher’s invulnerability protected him from 18 points. He rolled with the remaining 6 points of damage, -6 PP}

The Doomsday Robot swatted Manta-Man with its other hand. Manta-Man attempted to avoid the massive hand.

BABAM! Manta-Man was hit hard by the giant hand. He fell from the sky down to the street below. Manta-Man slumped to the ground knocked out.

{GM Note: Manta-Man needed a 13 to hit or less to fly out of the way of the area attack, he rolled a 16. The Doomsday Robot’s attack hits. The Doomsday Robot did 16 points of damage. Manta-Man has variable aura protection. He rolled 5 points of protection. The Aquatic Avenger rolled with 6 points, -6 PP. Manta-Man lost -5 Hit Points. This is more than ½ of his 8 Hit Points. Manta-Man is KO. His mass roll was a 4. The attack does 1 point of knock back Manta-Man traveled 1 square before stopping. He is now on the ground.}

Patty looked the newcomer up and down. "I get a good vibe off you, kid."

She cocked a thumb towards the giant hand holding Demolisher. "You got any tricks up your stylish sleeve that could help with that?"

[ 6] Erdbeben's jaw dropped. He looked down at his hands and thought, "That's incredible! I must have blasted that giant robot back over 50 feet!"

This was the first time that Erdbeben really had a chance to let loose with his powers. "I've got to try that again!" he yelled as he ran to catch up with the robot.

As soon as he was close enough, he braced himself again for another blast. Focusing on center mass and just trying to make sure he hit, he'd hat to see what kind of damage he'd do to the surrounding area on a miss, he let loose with another blast.

VARR! The vibe blast of Erdbeben smashed into the chest of the Doomsday Robot. It shock under the force of the blast. The Doomsday Robot’s armor wasn’t sufficient to withstand the blow. While visibly pieces were shaken off it was still standing, continued to hold the Demolisher, and could continue to fight.

{GM Note: Last issue I used 5 inventing points to get Erdbeben’s vibe blast knockback. This is to cover the fact I forgot that vibration attacks don’t cause knockback at the basic level. To have would be a 5 CP modification adder or permanent use of the Inventing Points. Paul didn’t want to keep the knock back modifier. The Inventing Points were returned to Erdbeben’s IP pool.  That is why this blast didn’t knockback this time.

Erdbeben would have needed an 18 or less to hit the Doomsday Robot but since it is a mechanical target, Erdbeben when using his vibe attack could switch the ability from to hit for extra damage. So every reduction to hit of -1 will receive a +1 to damage, if it hits. He decided to switch 5 points from to hit to damage. Erdbeben needed a 13 or less to hit. He rolled an 8. Erdbeben rolled 13 points of damage plus 5 points of switched vibration for a total of 18 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from some of the damage. Vehicles (which the robot is) can’t roll with damage.}

[ 6] Laserfire flew around the robot bringing himself around to fire once again. “Second time’s the charm Demolisher, This should cut you free” Laserfire fired twin laser beams at the left hand of the Doomsday Robot.

ZZAM! The laser struck the armored hand. The laser cut away more of the hand but it didn’t free anyone.

{GM Note: Laserfire needed an 11 or less to hit. He rolled a 2. Laserfire did 14 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from some of the damage. }

ZZAM! The second laser struck the armored hand but did no damage.

{GM Note: Laserfire needed an 11 or less to hit. He rolled an 8. Laserfire did 5 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from all of the damage. }

[5] Crew members of the Doomsday Robot came running out of it. Two came down its back where there was as an access hatch in the middle of it. Two others came out of its feet, one from each foot. All were in a massive panic attempting to run away from the giant robot.

Two other exited a hatch on the Doomsday Robot’s shoulder. They did not climb down, instead they withdrew pistols. Both fired on Laserfire.

BZZANNK! Baker fired at Laserfire. Her shot missed as she stumbled, twisting her leg. She stifled her groan from the pain. Baker didn’t want anyone to hear she was in pain. Baker could still fight

{GM Note: Baker needs a 12 or less to hit. She rolled a 20 and then a 16 that is a fumble. The fumble roll was damage to her leg. She couldn’t roll with it. She took 1 point of damage, -1 HP}

BZZANNK! Shanley fired at Laserfire. Her shot hit Laserfire. His flame aura stopped the energy beam. He took no damage and could still fight.

{GM Note: Shanley needs a 12 or less to hit. She rolled a 7. Shanley rolled 3 points of damage. Laserfire has a variable aura protection. He rolled 5 points of protection. It stopped all of the damage. Nothing got past his protection.}

[ 3] Dr. Wildman exited the Doomsday Robot. He spotted Manta-Man who was knocked out. The Druidic Shapechanger ran to the unconscious Aquatic Avenger.

[ 2] Patty ran to Manta-Man. She attempted to wake him up.

{GM Note: To wake others it is an IN save -7 plus remaining hits points of unconscious character. For Patty Plus the save target calculation is IN save of 12 -7 +3 for 8. Patty needs an 8 or less to wake Manta-Man. She rolled a 5. He is awake. He won’t get an action this turn but he will be awake for the next turn.}

She was successful. Manta-Man thanked Patty. He then looked at Dr Wildman. “Hey, Doc. Do you anything that will help me get back on my feet?”

[ 2] “Urgh!” Demolisher pushed; slowly the left hand opened up and released him. He dropped to the payment. He swung his hammer around and stared at the Giant Robot.

{GM Note: Demolisher need to make a Strength save against a Grapple Hold. A Strength save is made by rolling his basic HtH against the opponent he was making the save against. The Doomsday Robot rolled 16 for its basic HtH, because the crew had fled and only one crew member was handling the arms. The roll was halved. Demolisher needed an 8 or more to free himself. Demolisher was in a Grapple Lock which is a -2 to his roll. He pushed his strength by spending 2 Power Points for a +2. These offset so it is his basic HtH roll, he rolled a 13. Demolisher freed himself from the giant robot’s hand.}

 


In the shadows another watched the fight. He was silently tracking the crew of the Doomsday Robot. Soon he would take action. Not now but soon.

 I was looking over Erdbeben's character sheet, and I think it says his blasts do no Knockback, its sharp damage.  I know in the issue the knockback he did was a big part of his introduction... just thought I'd mention it.  Wow, 2d12+d10 damage... that is beast.

Adamas will barrel through the floor to get to the torso of the Robot

Black Orchid will attempt to trick the crew into believing the Robot is self-destructing

Dr. Wildman is exiting the Robot and will have a held action.

Patty will reflect Robot physical attack.

Demolisher will attempt to break free of the grip. If freed, he will jump to the ground as hit the leg.

Erdbeben will blast the Robot center mass again.

Skink is KO. What is his action if he makes his wake up roll?

Hi, I wanted to let you know I made a small mistake with Erdbeben's turn. His vibe blast shouldn't have caused knockback. When I publish the next issue I am going to state that Erdbeben used 5 Inventing Points to add knockback for that attack only. If you want instead we can permanently adjust the power to always do knockback. I would assign the 5 Inventing Points and as you can CPs we would replace the IP with the CPs until all IPs are recovered.

Let me know if you want the knockback to be a 1 time thing (until you decided to use IPs again for that purpose) or if you want to make it permanent.

Crusade: Issue 64 - Still Standing


Deck A of the Doomsday Robot.

[13] Adamas remained focused on destroying the Doomsday Robot instead of fighting CyberDoom. He planned on getting past CyberDoom, heading down to the next level through the neck on the robot. Up into the top of the Doomsday Robot’s head Adamas flew. He barreled rolled to his left going into a power dive toward the closed hatch behind CyberDoom.

Adamas fired his eye beam power blast at the hatch.

ZZWWT!! The hatch was destroyed completely leaving a 5 foot hole for the Diamond Dynamo to fly through.

{GM Note: Adamas needed a 19 to hit or less. He rolled a 1. His second roll was a 15, critical success! On the crit table he rolled Solid Hit, which is +3 damage to his roll. Adamas rolled 12 damage +3 crit bonus for a total of 15 damage points. This amount is enough to destroy the hatch completely}

THWANG! CyberDoom shoulder slammed Adamas into the wall causing the superhero to halt his flight as he missed the opening and landed on the floor.

{GM Note: Mighty Protectors introduced the concept of Zones of Control to V&V. Each active character has a ‘zone of control’ within 1” of their position. If a character attempts to pass through an opponent’s zone of control, the opponent may try to block them. That is what CyberDoom did. The character must then make a task check vs. 10 plus their physical defense, minus the opponent’s physical defense. If the check is successful, the character may proceed. If not, their movement ends for that turn.

Adamas has a 1 defense to add to the base of 10 for the check. CyberDoom has a Physical Defense of 2. Adamas has to roll a check against a 9, needing a 9 or less on a 1d20. He rolled a 17. He failed his check, so his movement stopped next to CyberDoom who blocked him.}

“You aren’t going anywhere, Alien; I am not through blasting you!” CyberDoom said.

[ 6] Laserfire said, “While I appreciate the witty banter you are laying down, CyberDud. I can’t hang I’ve got to fly as I have a teammate that needs me to light it up”, He flew out of the eye of the Doomsday Robot.

[ 4] CyberDoom pointed his left hand at Adamas and his right at Manta-Man. CyberDoom fired his power blasts at both of the heroes.

SHWROOSHH! Manta-Man was blast out through the opening in the head of the Doomsday Robot. He flew away for 20 feet until the momentum slowed enough he could stabilize himself and remain in flight. He was still able to fight.

{GM Note: CyberDoom needed a 15 to hit or less, he rolled a 10. CyberDoom did 22 points of damage. Manta-Man’s Electrical Aura protected him from 11 points. The Aquatic Avenger rolled with 6 points, -6 PP. Manta-Man lost -5 Hit Points. His mass roll was 1. The Crusader Chairman was knocked back 20 feet (4”). His stopped without hitting anything so no additional damage was taken.}

SHWROOSHH! Adamas withstood the power blast from CyberDoom’s gauntlet. The Alien Powerhouse was still standing and could continue to fight.

{GM Note: CyberDoom needed an 18 to hit or less, he rolled a 9. CyberDoom did 20 points of damage. Adamas’ Invulnerability protected him from 15 points. The Alien Powerhouse rolled with 3 points, -3 PP. Adamas lost -2 Hit Points. His mass roll was 2. The Diamond Dynamo was not knocked back.}

[ 9] The Cyberion stood over StrikeForce. Its hands were the origin of its power blasts. The Guardian Robot fired dual blasts at the Bionic Brawler.

BRRZZT! StrikeForce rolled with the blast. He felt a lot of pain but the Bionic Brawler was still standing. He could continue fighting.

{GM Note: Cyberion needed a 14 to hit or less, it rolled a 7. CyberDoom did 20 points of damage. StrikeForce’s armor protected him from 6 points. The Bionic Brawler rolled with 7 points, -7 PP. StrikeForce lost -7 Hit Points. Cyberion’s power blast does not cause knock back.}

BRRZZT! The Nanite Enhanced Hero withstood the second blast. It was less than the first but it still got through his protection. StrikeForce was still standing; soon he would launch his attack.

Dr Wildman dead-lifted the android and then struggled to get the body into a useful position. He tried his best to remember it was just a robot but it was difficult as the thing looked so lifelike.

"This would be so much easier if I was a gorilla..." he strained between his teeth as he shifted his weight. Holding the body over his head he brought it down headfirst into the console with a sickening crunch! Sparks arced as electronic components scattered.

William stepped back and flinched.

He had driven the android headfirst into the console and clearly some sort of short circuit had happened as the body went into some sort of cyber-rigor-mortis. It stuck out of the console, rigid like an arrow in a target! Dr Wildman waited momentarily to see if anything happened...nothing!

'Well that plan was heading nowhere!' he chuckled to himself.

He spun to watch how StrikeForce was doing with the bigger robot. He seemed to have everything under control. William checked his watch again...still at least 10 minutes before dawn.

Dr Wildman sat on the console next to the upturned automaton describing the fight before them like a sports commentator. As he adjusted his angle to get a clearer view he noticed the holster on the hip of the android engineer. With a deft flick of the press stud an energy blaster slides out into his hand.

Springing off the console William examined where he has just sat.

Despite a protruding 6' android engineer buried up to his neck in the console, clearly the stabilizing unit was still functional. William remembered the elevator of Dr Velocity...or whatever his name was...in the secret base in the swamplands a few months ago.

'Say what you like about the moral character of today's supervillian but the quality of their engineering is to be admired!' he mused.

"OK Strike...things may get a bit bumpy; I'm about to go full Adamas on this gizmo!" he shouted.

Hearing his teammate give him a heads up The Cyborg Crusader readied himself to have to move if the giant robot started to fall. Through the team comm-link he relayed, "Heads up team, this giant may tumble off the bean-stalk, watch yourself and brace for impact."

[ 7] Tapping the paralytic automaton in a feigned comforting way he whispered: " sorry Hawkins, this might get a bit messy in there!"

BZZANNK! The energy pistol blast ripped into the console panel cover, twisting the metal and exposing the electronics underneath which were unharmed.

{GM Note: Dr. Wildman needed a 10 to hit or less, he rolled an 11. The blast struck the console harmlessly. It was too big to really miss so the game result of a miss is nothing in the console was damaged}

BZZANNK! The energy pistol blast ripped into the console keyboard, plastic keys flew everywhere exposing the electronics underneath which were unharmed.

{GM Note: Dr. Wildman needed a 10 to hit or less, he rolled a 20 and then rolled a 1. This is a normal miss as the second roll was a success so a Fumble result did not occur. The blast struck the console harmlessly. It was too big to really miss so the game result of a miss is nothing in the console was damaged}

BZZANNK! The energy pistol blast ripped into the console desk, wood and metal broke and bent exposing the interior of the console. No electronics were within the desk so the controls were unharmed.

BZZANNK! The energy pistol blast ripped into the console monitors, polarized glass screens burst with a fine spray of liquid crystal covering Hawkins and Dr. Wildman. The back of the monitors were exposed. None of the console controls were behind the screens so the controls were unharmed.

Dr. Wildman stared at the energy pistol and then at Hawkins, then back to the energy pistol.

[ 6] StrikeForce continued his attack pattern. Moving in a non repetitive way, so as not to give the robot an idea on how to anticipate his movements and increase its chances to hit him. StrikeForce took his attacks upon it when and where an opening presents itself.

The Bionic Brawer used the fighting defensively combat stance and launching 4 attacks with his escrima against the Cyberion.

WHIF! The escrima missed the right side of the Cyberion.

{GM Note: StrikeForce needed a 10 to hit or less, he rolled a 15. StrikeForce missed with his first attack.}

KRAK! The escrima smashed into the chest of the Cyberion. Pieces of its armor flew into the air. The Robotic Guardian smashed into the wall behind it but it was still standing. StrikeForce could tell that its armor was weakened but he knew the Cyberion was still able to fight.

{GM Note: StrikeForce needed a 10 to hit or less, he rolled a 4. He rolled 21 points of damage. Cyberion’s armor protected him from some of it. The Cyberion has ablative armor which StrikeForce’s total damage points exceeded its total Armor value. This caused the armor to be reduced by 1. A random roll determined which damage type of protection was reduced by 1. The Cyberion rolled with about half of the remaining damage, The Hit Point loss was greater than its mass roll. The Cyberion was knocked back into the wall.}

WHIF! The escrima missed the left side of the Cyberion.

Deck D of the Doomsday Robot.



 Black Orchid recognized the Engineering Center. Here crew members worked at the 3 different stations. There was the life support station, the computer control station, and the engineering monitoring station.


The Mistress of the Vacuum knew she had to pass through C Deck which was above D to get to B Deck where the weapons systems for the Right and Left Hand resided.

[ 4] Martin thought he heard the sound of the hatch opening. He turned from his station and looked at both the floor and ceiling hatches. Both were closed. He listened for a moment but he didn’t hear anything but the distant sounds of battle on other decks. “Hmm” he muttered.

{GM Note: Martin was making a perception check to see if he spotted Black Orchid. Normally a check wouldn’t be needed if she was obvious to his senses but she is not so a check is required. A perception check is made by performing Intelligence save. The best senses are used. For Martin that is vision as it is at full level where hearing and scent is basic. Unfortunately for Martin, Black Orchid is Invisible. Her invisibility ability prevents him from using vision for the perception test. If he could perceive foot prints or other environmental clues instead of trying to perceive her then he could use vision. I ruled in D-Deck there are no environmental clues he could use. With vision ruled out, he will have to use either hearing or scent. Black Orchid is invisible and using stealth then a successful perception check on a basic sense requires a critical success

Martin needed a 1 or less to hear Black Orchid. He rolled a 19. Martin failed to perceive Black Orchid}

[3 ] Black Orchid slipped past the current level and moved to the next level.

{GM Note: Black Orchid moved stealthily using at ½ her normal movement rate. She had to make an Agility save to open the ceiling hatch without making a sound which could possibly give her location away. Black Orchid needed a 17 or less, she rolled a 5. Black Orchid left D-Deck without making a sound.}

[2] Gaugran thought he heard the sound of the hatch opening. After listening for a moment longer he figured his sensors were over compensating, scanning on high alert for when the battle came to D-Deck.

The two robots continued their tasks making sure that Life Support systems were still running and within acceptable parameters. The Engineering station had several alarms sounding as the Doomsday Robot had been taking a severe beating from the heroes both inside and outside. They rerouted systems and adjusted power flow to make sure nothing overheated or shut down from the stress.

The Computer Control station flashed warning signs of pending system failures and software crashes. They rebooted a couple of systems and ran recovery programs on others. The Doomsday Robot was still functioning but overrides and manual controls had to be performed. Martin communicated with the Command Center the status of the systems and the immediate emergencies which needed to be addressed. The Command Center Commander gave them their instructions and the priority order to work the emergencies.

 [ 13] Skink waited to see what Demolisher and the Doomsday Robot did next before acting.


[ 9]  Demolisher tried using his strength to free himself. He was really tired of spending the whole fight being help down by a giant hand; he was feeling suppressed by the man, the giant metal man! “Urgh!” Demolisher pushed but wasn’t able to lift the left hand off of him. It continued to press him into the pavement.
{GM Note: Demolisher need to make a Strength save against a Grapple Hold. A Strength save is made by rolling his basic HtH against the opponent he was making the save against. The Doomsday Robot rolled 16 for its basic HtH. Demolisher needed a 16 or more, he rolled a 13. Demolisher was still covered and press to the ground by the giant robot’s hand.}

[ 9] Patty Plus stood ready to intercept any of the Doomsday Robot’s physical attacks with her Reflection power.

[ 8] The Doomsday Robot closed his left hand, grabbing the Domain Destroyer in its fist. It lifted Demolisher up off of the pavement and into the air. Demolisher was trapped in the grip of the giant left hand of the Doomsday Robot.

{GM Note: Doomsday Robot needed an 11 to hit or less to turn his grapple into a grapple lock. It rolled a 4. Demolisher was now in a grapple lock. To escape now he would have to make a Strength save with -2 points applied to his roll.}

The Doomsday Robot swung its right hand to attack Skink.

Patty Plus ran to get in front of the attack to intercept it.

{GM Note: On a normal attack Patty Plus could use her held action to intercept the attack so that it wouldn’t hit Skink. This is an area attack so she can’t prevent Skink from being hit but she can use her reflection to damage the robot.}

Skink attempted to leap out of the way. He did not jump high enough or fast enough.

BABAM! Skink was hit hard by the giant hand. He flew across the street smashing into a building. Skink slump to the ground knocked out.

{GM Note: Skink needed a 15 to hit or less to jump out of the way of the area attack, he rolled a 17. The Doomsday Robot’s attack hits. The Doomsday Robot did 21 points of damage. Skink has no protection. The Acrobatic Reptilian Hero rolled with 8 points, -8 PP. Skink lost -13 Hit Points. This is more than ½ of his 24 Hit Points. Skink is KO. His mass roll was a 2. The attack does 11 points of knock back Skink travels 4 squares before hitting the building. The building’s Structure Rating is higher than Skink’s protection of 0. Skink takes 7 points of damage. He is knocked out so he can’t roll with the damage so he takes it all against Hit Points, -7 HP.}

BABAM! Patty braced herself as the giant hand slammed into her; she rolled with the damage as she prepared to send it back to its source.

{GM Note: Patty Plus was automatically hit so she could reflect the damage. The Doomsday Robot did 21 points of damage. Patty Plus’ reflection power protected her from 16 points. Patty rolled with 5 points of damage; -5 PP.}

BABAM! Patty Plus reflected the physical force through herself and back into the hand of the Doomsday Robot. The force was great enough that it whipped its arm back across it body. The giant robot was still standing, continued to hold the Demolisher, and could continue to fight.

{GM Note: Patty Plus needed a 10 or less to hit. She rolled a 7. Patty reflected 21 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from some of the damage. Vehicles (which the robot is) can’t roll with damage. The Doomsday Robots mass stopped the rest of the damage taken.}

James had traveled to Megalopolis. If he was going to hide in plain site as a "Cape" then he needed to be where the Capes News Channel and other mediums had dedicated resources. Maybe one of the contributors to Unit One would even want to interview him. He obtained a job as a paramedic in Center City. That was why he was in Times Square ducking behind a dumpster as a giant robot was battling the New Crusaders. He was helping those who had decided to hide in their office buildings instead of evacuating when Dr. Apocalypse made his announcement demanding the Refuge Islands be turned over to him, if the city leaders didn't then he would demonstrate the extent of his power in Time Square. A huge storm followed by the Doomsday Robot is what he had meant.

Having finished bandaging the injured man, Carl might have been his name, James turned this attention to the center of Time Square where the Doomsday Robot stood. He had just enough time to duck out of the way as one of the giant's fingers came bouncing down the street past him. Seeing nobody left to help, he thought to himself, "Now's the time. I can make my mark now or I can continue to try and hide and live in fear."

Taking off his paramedic uniform, he revealed his new suit. It was black with vibration lines running out from the middle and, most importantly, it looked good.

Running up the street he was intent on helping out the heroes in any way that he could and hopefully, he'd get caught on camera doing it. Once he was close enough to the giant robot's foot, he looked around to make sure there was a camera nearby before letting loose with a vibratory blast. He spotted that both Shutterbug and Osgood the Newt were recording and reporting on the battle.

[ 6] As he steeled himself against the force of the vibrations that he generated, he thought to himself, "Hopefully this vibration will shake something loose inside of that big metal beast!"

VARR! The vibe blast of Erdbeben smashed into the chest of the Doomsday Robot. It staggered under the force of the blast. The Doomsday Robot’s armor and mass wasn’t sufficient to withstand the blow. It was knocked back sending it down the street. The giant robot’s feet tearing grooves into asphalt and cement as it slid. Its stabilization systems kept its occupants from being tossed around during its being knocked back. When the giant robot stopped, it was still standing, continued to hold the Demolisher, and could continue to fight.

{GM Note: Erdbeben would have needed an 18 or less to hit the Doomsday Robot but since it is a mechanical target, Erdbeben when using his vibe attack could switch the ability from to hit for extra damage. So every reduction to hit of -1 will receive a +1 to damage, if it hits. He decided to switch 7 points from to hit to damage. Erdbeben needed an 11 or less to hit. He rolled a 9. Erdbeben rolled 27 points of damage plus 7 points of switched vibration for a total of 34 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from a little of the damage. Vehicles (which the robot is) can’t roll with damage. The Doomsday Robots mass stopped the majority of the damage taken. 11 points of damage was greater than its mass roll. The Doomsday Robot was knocked back 11 squares (55 feet).}

[ 6] Laserfire flew after the giant robot. “Don’t worry Demolisher, I will light the way to your freedom!” Laserfire fired twin laser beams at the left hand of the Doomsday Robot.

ZZAM! The laser struck the armored hand but did no damage.

{GM Note: Laserfire needed an 11 or less to hit. He rolled a 2. Laserfire did 8 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from all of the damage. }

ZZAM! The second laser struck the armored hand but did no damage.

{GM Note: Laserfire needed an 11 or less to hit. He rolled a 3. Laserfire did 4 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from all of the damage. }

[ 2] Manta-Man flew back toward the Doomsday Robot. “Unhand Demolisher! you overgrown mechanical man!” Manta-Man unleashed two bolts of lightning at the three finger grip it had on the Demolisher.

KKZZKTT! The first lightning bolt struck harmlessly against the armored hand.

{GM Note: Manta-Man needed a 13 or less to hit. He rolled a 9. Manta-Man did 6 points of damage. The Doomsday Robot’s armor protected it from all of the damage. }

KKZZKTT! The second lightning bolt struck the hand damaging. Manta-Man wondered how much more damage was needed before the Demolisher could free himself. The Aquatic Avenger realized it didn’t matter because he would do it.

She immediately was confronted with chaos in the Command Center. Caufield was screaming at Hawkins to calm down, to remember his programming. “The new entrant was unplanned for but not worthy of initiating flight protocols. Continue scanning the monitors and start database searches to identify the newcomer. His weaknesses had to be documented just like all the others.”

“Krajovic,” Caufield said to the woman nearest him, “contact the other team. I know CyberDoom wants to handle the Capes himself but direction from Dr. Apocalypse is to prime them. Let them know our status.”

Krajovic nodded. She spoke into her communications equipment, quietly and quickly.

{GM Note: Black Orchid needed an 11 or less (base 14 less -3 for the noise between her and her target) on her perception test to hear what Krajovic saying. She rolled a 13, Black Orchid failed her perception test}

Caufield spoke to Cavagnaro next, “Make sure you are ready, You may need to take action at any moment.”

As Cavagnaro replied in the affirmative, Caufield focused on all the monitors and screens in front of him {Note I on the map}. The monitors showed a 360 view outside the robot. Black Orchid spotted someone standing near Patty Plus. She had never seen the man before.

Black Orchid studied the station nearest her, the one that Cavagnaro was sitting at.

{GM Note: Black Orchid needed a 14 or less on her perception test to know what the station was. She rolled a 2, Black Orchid succeeded in her perception test}

The station was a dead man’s switch. It was the equipment which controlled the self destruct timer and mechanism for the Doomsday Robot. It controlled all of the internal explosives set to destroy the technology within. This was to prevent CyberDoom’s tech from getting into the hands of the authorities. The timing appeared to be on a 30 second delay {3 game turns}. The switch would set off the timer if the station was damage, Cavagnaro was forced from her station, or she activated the self destruct command.

I live in Colorado, and I'm a human factors engineer, human-system integration consultant, and part-time Excel guru.
Started D&D with the Holmes version in 1979 and then moved to a number of other games (MERP, Runequest, Call of Cthulhu, The Fantasy Trip, V&V).
Now I do more recent RPGs as well (Savage Worlds, D&D 5E) and miniatures games (Song of Blades and Heroes, Gaslands)
Gaming with my kids is usually Savage Worlds when we can all get in the same place at the same time.

Thank you for the kind words, Jon! I do try to make The Black Orchid's moves very deliberate and thought out, allowing myself the luxury to think through many possibilities even though the time frame is short because she's just so damn smart!

Tapping the paralytic automaton in a feigned comforting way he whispers: " sorry Hawkins, this might get a bit messy in there!"

 Jon, I have Adamas still focuses on destroying the Doomsday Robot instead fighting CyberDoom. He next action will be to get past CyberDoom heading down to the next level. I plan on him traveling through the neck. Is that right?

Jamey, StrikeForce will continue his attack pattern. Fighting Defensively with 4 attacks against the Cyberion. Is that right?

Steve, Dr. Wildman will blast away at the console with the blaster he found. 4 Blasts would be a 10 or less to damage something significant instead of  hitting molding or framing. Is that good or do you want to change the odds? Each attack increase lowers by -3 and each fewer attack increases by 3? Is 4 attacks what you want?

Marc, I have Black Orchid slipping past the current level and moving to the next level since this is not the level with the weapons on it, is that correct?

Shane, I have Patty Plus ready to intercept any Doomsday Robot physical attacks with her Reflection power, is that correct?

Chris, I have Demolisher using his strength to free himself from the Doomsday Robot's grapple. He could attempt an agility save instead. Using his strength to escape is the current plan, is that correct?

Chuck, I have Stink using his claws in an effort to free the Demolisher from being trapped under the Doomsday Robot's hand. Is that correct?

 That’s correct, he will use his strength and if he can get out he will attack that leg he damaged before, trying to immobilize or bring down the robot.  If he can he will use his find weakness ability to help with either or both of those things.
  He is really tired of spending the whole fight being help down by a giant hand; he's feeling suppressed by the man, the giant metal man!

James had traveled to Megalopolis. If he was going to hide in plain site as a "Cape" then he needed to be where the Capes News Channel and other mediums had dedicated resources. Maybe one of the contributors to Unit One would even want to interview him. He obtained a job as a paramedic in Center City. That was why he was in Times Square ducking behind a dumpster as a Giant Robot was battling the New Crusaders. He was helping those who had decided to hide in their office building instead of evacuating when Dr. Apocalypse made his announcement demanding the Refuge Islands be turned over to him, if the city leaders didn't then he would demonstrate the extent of his power in Time Square. A huge storm followed by the Doomsday Robot is what he had meant.

Having finished bandaging the injured man, Carl might have been his name, James turned this attention to the center of Time Square where the Robot stood. He had just enough time to duck out of the way as one of the giant's fingers came bouncing down the street past him. Seeing nobody left to help, he thought to himself, "Now's the time. I can make my mark now or I can continue to try and hide and live in fear."

Taking off his paramedic uniform, he revealed his new suit. It was black with vibration lines running out from the middle and, most importantly, it looked good.

Running up the street he was intent on helping out the heroes in any way that he could and hopefully, he'd get caught on camera doing it. Once he was close enough to the giant robot's foot, he looked around to make sure there was a camera close by before letting loose with a vibratory blast. As he steeled himself against the force of the vibrations that he generated, he thought to himself, "Hopefully this vibration will shake something loose inside of that big metal beast!"

Your are correct on my making the rolls. It is easier and a time saver. The narrative is great!

I also need you to provide the game information too. For example: OOC: Erdbeben makes vibe attack at the Robot. or OOC: Erdbeben is making a special attack against the Robot's chest. (which would be a -3 to hit but will have a chance to do extra specific damage).

Two things to be aware of.

1) The Doomsday Robot is huge. It has a Profile of 10.1 compare to Erdbeben's profile of 1, so he will not be getting a range penalty if Erdbeben is 5 hexes or further away. Since Erdbeben is next to the Robot's foot he will get a bonus of +4 to hit. If he decides to move away later every 5 hexes further away will be a -1 to the +4.

2) Since the Doomsday Robot is a mechanical target, Erdbeben when using his vibe attack can switch the ability to hit for extra damage. So every reduction to hit of -1 will receive a +1 to damage, if it hits.

So I need to know a) is he targeting a specific area of the Robot (-3 to hit), b) is he reducing his ability to hit to increase damage, if yes how much. c) is he pushing his damage, spending two additional Power Points to get +2 damage if it hits?

Okay, that's how that works. In that case, if Erdbeben has an 18 to hit with a +4, that makes it a 22, total. If that's the case, he'll reduce his chance to hit to 15, giving him a +7 to damage if he hits.

He's not going to target any special area so that he won't decrease his chance to hit any further.

StrikeForce continued to implement his strategy against the Cyberion Robot.
OOC: What we had previously discussed Tom.

Moving in a non repetitive way, so as not to give the robot an idea on how to anticipate his movements and increase its chances to hit him. StrikeForce takes his attacks upon it when and where an opening presents itself.

Hearing his teammate give him a heads up The Cyborg Crusader readies himself to have to move if the giant robot starts to fall. Through the team comm-link he will relay, "Heads up team, this giant may tumble off the bean-stalk, watch yourself and brace for impact."

OOC: StrikeForce will use his parkour to help him if this thing starts to fall.
