Quest: Regroup! - Issue 44

Location: Hidden Tomb on Easter Island

{Flashback}

Adamas walked down the wooden stairs. Red Hawk went next. They reached the stone floor. Adamas told them, “I can see that the wall on the far side of the room was not attached to another room. I can’t see much further than that to be able to tell if there was a room further down or not without really concentrating.”

Red Hawk moved out of the line. He said “I vibrated through the stone before. I will try it again.”

Red Hawk started to walk over to the far wall but his heightened senses picked up something coming toward them and it was moving fast. From the hole in the ceiling an armored man flew through it. He landed on the ground with a loud thud.

“So this is where my wayward Android has gone!”

“I am CyberDoom and I am your creator!”

“Freedom Eagle Duplicate, Initiate Memory reinstall protocol Beta … Tango… Zeta … Maximum Overwrite”

{GM Note: Red Hawk experienced the equivalent of a Mind Control attack.}

Red Hawk sensed his newly created Firewalls holding back the attempt to rewrite his CPU. He fought off CyberDoom’s commands.

{GM Note: Did you forget that Red Hawk had the hunted weakness? I didn’t}

"CyberDoom?" Although needling to conserve his energies for the battle ahead Chris readied himself to throw dual-blast of vibrational energy at the mechanical maniac. Still no warning from War Wagon or the Elementals from above tweaks the avian android's curiosity. "I've taken steps to stop your ever using me for your purposes again you monstrosity. Stand down or the Guardians will smash you into your component parts and ship you to StarCorp in tiny little FedEx boxes."

While monologuing, Red Hawk activated all his enhanced senses and detect for anything out of the ordinary. His senses reported nothing unusual.

CyberDoom fired twin energy blasts at Red Hawk. Both of the energy blasts missed.

Across the Amulet CX said, "There are heiroglyphics all over these walls.  I'm recording them for later review.  Thunderhead, do you think you can read them?"

CX had heard the Elementals speaking of Thunderhead’s role as an archeologist.   "Not wanting to make assumptions.  I can figure them out with time, but you might be a little quicker at it."

Via the telepathic amulet, Thunderhead replied to CX, "Come quick! We need you. Supay is here!"

Jack Frost did a double take. "That's not Supay," he said via the amulet. "That's Pietor, the craven sorcerer who summoned me back to the World of Men!  Unless my eyes are betrayed by some spell!"

"What?!" cried Thunderhead, staring at Supay. Then the avatar of an Incan goddess concentrated.  "I reject this reality," he said to Supay with steely conviction. Thunderhead left the room entering the hallway

Over the Amulet CX thought, 'Somebody watch my back.  I think these hieroglyphics have something to do with whatever you guys are seeing.  I'm trying to figure them out now.  Orchid, are you seeing the glyphs?  They may be hieroglyphics but it’s just a code.  We can break it down and get to the bottom of this.'

"Reveal your true self, coward!" Jack jeered at the image of 'Doctor Apocalypse.' Jack Frost left the room following Thunderhead.

"Illusions . . . ? Hieroglyphs . . . ?" Still staring CyberDoom down the barrel of dual vibro-blast unsure of the reality of the mechanical megalomaniac. Red Hawk tried to stay focused on the mission at hand. "Forget the glyphs. Find Jacco and the Gate. Everything else is a distraction to delay us from the task we are here for." Chris analysed his sensor data and mumbled something about ancient tombs and CyberDoom being a mummy. "This place is cursed. Just like in that old movie I watched last week."

Red Hawk returned fire with his own set of dual vibe blasts. The first blast hit but the second missed. CyberDoom withstood the blast only taking a single step backwards.

Focusing his thoughts through the amulet, Starbolt communicated. "Hawk, I am protecting our six, and as CX is occupied with the Hyroglyphics, I won't be going ahead until he is ready to go. C.X. I'll watch your back as long as needed."

Starbolt didn’t see anyone in the room besides Red Hawk and the stellar sentinel had no idea who Red Hawk had fired at.

{End of Flashback}
Adamas relayed what he could see human shaped bodies but he couldn’t tell if they were human or alive. The stone and earth must have a strong lead content. He was having a difficult seeing clearly. He moved back to the group to ensure everyone is OK.

Centurion X had a large handful of bearings grasped in his hand.  He anticipated trouble and would use the metal as a defense for the others in the group before defending himself.

Jack Frost was curiously intrigued by the phantom sentinels that haunted this ancient site. His lively blue eyes took in the scene:  A dungeon with spectral guardians. A golden armored knight.  A storm giant.  An invisible goddess of the moon. A winged angel. A demigod of sunlight. A titan of herculean strength and courage. All on an epic quest at the behest of an old wizard.

Jack couldn't help but laugh.  It seems the world hadn't changed that much since the time of Jack's kin after all.

The young immortal ignored the annoying pleadings in his head from the storm giant and skipped down the hall past Adamas, curious and excited to see what lay ahead!

Red Hawk said "Starbolt on your guard. Warn the others my creator CyberDoom has hunted me down and come to take me away."

CyberDoom fired twin energy blasts at Red Hawk. The blasts missed.

Red Hawk phased his molecules and flew down into the ground. Pausing for a moment to create the illusion of time and movement to his creator Red Hawk used his heightened sensor suite to keep track of his surroundings and distance with the idea of coming back up ... not behind CyberDoom but only a few feet closer than his original position, in hopes to trick his creator into giving him a back shot as he rose once again into the ancient chamber.

Over the amulet, The Black Orchid said, "Sorry guys, I couldn't help with those hieroglyphs, but it seems like Thunderhead got it." She moved to where Adamas was looking. "Where are they? Is that what Red Hawk is shooting at?"

Thunderhead said, telepathically: "Everyone! There are mystical guardians in this tomb! They are conjuring up illusions drawn from the darkest corners of our minds! Each of us is confronting our greatest enemies, but these phantasms are not real! Ignore them! We must regroup before we press on! Reconnoiter at Adamas' position, now."

When Red Hawk was back in the ancient chamber, CyberDoom was gone. Red Hawk flew out of the chamber to join the rest of the Guardians.

The archaeologist avatar moved closer to Adamas and waited until the team was reunited!

Black Orchid readied herself to blast if something comes shambling towards them, trying not to let on that the description of the undead unnerved her a bit, with unknown magic and sorcery being polar opposites to the comforting world of science she knew so well.

As the group gathers together, Starbolt flew forward and said, "Well, that was certainly interesting. It makes me cautious about what could be next."

Jack and Black Orchid looked into the room in front of them. This is what they saw.

OOC:
Happy holidays everyone!

Thunderhead will share the story from the hieroglyphics with the team via the amulet.  Also, that the archenemies we encountered were illusions, on the outside chance anyone else was grappling with that.

Tom, are there any doors in this room aside from the open doorway near Adamas?

Are Starbolt and Black Orchid both behind us?
When's the last time Thundy heard something from Black Orchid?

Thanks,
Jeff

OOC:

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season!

IC: Adamas will relay what he sees ahead, but move back to the group to ensure everyone is OK.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: Jeff, I can't speak for Black Orchid, but Starbolt is flying at the rear of our group’s formation to provide protection against a possible rear attack. If it would help out the group, he would be willing to adjust his location.

Thanks,
Jamey

No doors besides the one by Adamas.

Black Orchid said she could see the Hieroglyphics so it is safe for Thunderhead to believe she is in the same hallway as the others. Starbolt and Red Hawk are in the room that Thunderhead left.

Best

[OOC:
Goals: End this fog of war! Get everyone safely together, and then move forward.

Actions: Save action until we're together, at Adamas' position. Then advance cautiously down that hall toward those figures, with action saved.  If there is no clear target for an attack, Thundy will spend his action this turn Evading.

If we aren't all united by the end of this turn, Thunderhead will use his action to go locate those heroes  that haven't joined the regroup (Starbolt and Red Hawk), perhaps Evading during that process as well, if it doesn't prevent Thundy from grabbing them and carrying them if need be.]

Move down the hall by Adamas toward the mysterious figures, while evading. Ice defense remains on.

Thanks!

PS:

OOC: Hi, I just realized that Thunderhead might still have an Evasion active from last action.

If so, here are some other things he would do with his action instead:

1) Use Weather Control powers to detect micro changes in the air, to detect invisible creatures in these corridors.  If illusions are creating villains in here, they might be hiding them too. Obituary is still lurking around here somewhere!

2) Use his Traps skill to detect mundane, mechanical traps in this ancient tomb, like the two-fisted, 1930's archaeologist he is!

Thanks,
Jeff

Assuming the group gathers together, Starbolt will fly forward and say, "Well, that was certainly interesting. It makes me cautious about what could be next."

OOC: Starbolt will maintain a defensive flight pattern while periodically looking backwards to ensure the baddies aren't sneaking up from our six.

If the group does not all gather, he will remain back to defend any that have not joined up. "I will join up as soon as everyone else does." will be his reply

Sorry Tom

OOC: Sorry my old Juno account is not accessible from my phone - my only Internet device at the moment - I hope this reaches you and in time. Please send any correspondence here until I figure something out. Thanks
