Location:
Hidden Tomb on Easter Island
CX and Black Orchid followed
Adamas leading the team into the hallway. Red Hawk was moving toward the far
wall when he stopped. Red Hawk had spotted something coming through the hole in
the roof. Jack looked too. It was the wizard that had summoned him!
“The Soul-Scythe, where is it! I allowed you
to think you escaped from my control so you could lead me to it. Now slave
bring it to me.”
The Wizard fired to bolts of energy from the
gem on his forehead. Both blasts missed Jack Frost
"CyberDoom?" Although needling to
conserve his energies for the battle ahead Chris readied himself to throw
dual-blast of vibrational energy at the mechanical maniac. Still no warning
from War Wagon or the Elementals from above tweaks the avian android's
curiosity. "I've taken steps to stop your ever using me for your purposes
again you monstrosity. Stand down or the Guardians will smash you into your
component parts and ship you to StarCorp in tiny little FedEx boxes."
Across the Amulet CX said, "There are heiroglyphics all over these
walls. I'm recording them for later
review. Thunderhead, do you think you
can read them?"
CX had heard the Elementals speaking of
Thunderhead’s role as an archeologist. "Not wanting to make assumptions. I can figure them out with time, but you
might be a little quicker at it."
Via the telepathic amulet, Thunderhead
replied to CX, "Come quick! We need
you. Supay is here!"
Jack Frost did a double take. "That's not Supay," he said
via the amulet. "That's Pietor, the
craven sorcerer who summoned me back to the World of Men! Unless my eyes are betrayed by some
spell!"
"What?!" cried Thunderhead, staring
at Supay. Then the avatar of an Incan goddess concentrated. "I reject this reality," he said to
Supay with steely conviction. Thunderhead left the room entering the hallway
the other Guardians had gone into.
Over
the Amulet CX thought, 'Somebody watch my
back. I think these hieroglyphics have something to do with whatever you
guys are seeing. I'm trying to figure them out now. Orchid, are you
seeing the glyphs? They may be hieroglyphics but it’s just a code.
We can break it down and get to the bottom of this.'
"Reveal your true self, coward!"
Jack jeered at the image of 'Doctor Apocalypse.'
Jack Frost watched as nothing was revealed
but instead the magical illusion of the Wizard disappeared.
Jack looked at the ancient markings on the
floor and knew that there were powerful arcane forces embedded in them. He
believed they had scanned his sub consciousness and created this illusion from
a fear lurking within him.
{GM
Note: This isn’t a new ability or skill of Jack’s. He rolled a 1 on his save
roll to disbelieve the illusion so I wanted to show he figured out what had
happened based on his many previous experiences with Wizards and Witches}
Jack followed Thunderhead out of the room. The
corridor is lined with ancient hieroglyphics. The walls, ceiling and floor are
all entirely covers. The runes are old and ancient but Jack couldn’t read them
because the people who wrote it had never ventured north and he had never met
them.
Red Hawk
tried to stay focused on the mission at hand. "Forget the glyphs. Find Jacco and the Gate. Everything else is a
distraction to delay us from the task we are here for." Chris analyzed
his sensor data and mumbled something about ancient tombs and CyberDoom being a
mummy. "This place is cursed. Just
like in that old movie I watched last week."
Focusing his thoughts through the amulet,
Starbolt communicated. "Hawk, I am
protecting our six, and as CX is occupied with the Hyroglyphics, I won't be
going ahead until he is ready to go. C.X. I'll watch your back as long as needed."
Thunderhead read the ancient tale.
Ten
thousand years ago a race of men journeyed here from a faraway planet. The trip
took many generations. There was a colony here on Easter Island, but when the
travelers arrived they found that it had been destroyed by Earthly creatures.
The new people erected the great stone heads in honor of the previous colony,
and they built their own magnificent city around them. For hundreds of years
they prospered, and grew proficient in the occult arts. Their king in those
days was named Cor, and he begged the wizards to stop their dealings with the
demons from beyond. But they did not, and finally they called forth a great
demon which consumed their whole city. Then King Cor fought the demon and slew
it, saving a handful of his subjects. He himself did not survive the battle. A
secret tomb was build for him, guarded by undead spirits and cursed by the
vengeful demons.
Adamas said out loud, not
using the amulet, "I see figures up ahead, but I can't tell if they are
alive or statues...”
