Crusade: Friend or Foe - Issue 13

Location:Center City near midnight

On the other side of the fight a silent figure flew in. It came to where the location of the prone Centurion, trapped in his own battle suit.

The Midnight Bug hovered over him.

The Shortstop continued to run back and forth across the street. {GM Note: Shortstop is evading}

He turned running toward pulling out 2 spiked baseballs.

Whiff! BAM!

“He hits one off the Green Monster!” He yelled as the streaked back into the street.

“Only one of us can control the darkness. Now embrace your fate.” Hauntress reached to deliver her death touch to Black Orchid and misses.

Black Orchid said "Nice try! Looks like you got caught with your darkness down. Starbolt, let's finish her before she tries something like that again."

The Black Orchid looked up to coordinate her attack with Starbolt and blast Hauntress a third time.

Manta Lad sailed backwards and higher to scope out the whole fight.

His boys were putting a sick hurt on the Crusher creeps. Then all of a sudden a bunch of noobs showed up!
Vibron! And some intense dudes who attacked Vibron! They looked crashy but if they were hating on that wanksta Vibron, they couldn't be all bad.

Then Robin Hood and a spooky bug guy. Dude. The teenaged troublemaker couldn't tell the players from the haters.

"Identify yourselves!" he shouted to everyone, in his best Manta Man voice.

The Mysterious Matter Manipulator reached out with his TK and attempted to "grab" the insect's wings. The Wraith planned to hold them still with the hope to make the Sinister Cicada drop to the ground.

The Midnight Bug’s wings were too fast causing The Wraith to miss his grab.

Archer grabbed a handful of shafts as he made his way to the corner of the rooftop; Archer surveyed the scene before him. Vibron was down on the street to his left, and what was apparently an apparition, which his Spatial Awareness could not sense, to his right. Across the intersection a dragonfly looking clad criminal was hovering above a downed armored figure, and a short speeding sports figure had his back turned to both of them.

Archer said, “Dragon Man! Gently put the police cruiser down or face the consequences.”

The Emerald Dragon turned to show the Archer he was holding a delivery truck. He told the mystic bowman that the police cruiser had been safely removed from the area.

The Archer knocked an arrow and aimed at the dragonfly criminal. He held his shot waiting to see what Midnight Bug did next.

A high pitched metallic *Click* sound emits from his weapon as his finger slips deftly down to the fire selector switch and sets it to ‘full auto’. Showing no concern for Vibron's life or well-being, Phantom immediately lets loose with a hail of bullets at the villain.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! CLUNK.

Phantom cursed when his gun jammed. He had hit Vibron 2 or 3 times. He hadn’t been able to do much damage but he planned on emptying the entire clip to take him out. Now he had to spend time clearing the jam or he had to change weapons.

Starbolt wondered what a dose of light would do for Hauntress’ "dark" disposition. He signaled to Black Orchid he was ready to attack in conjunction with her.

Emerald Dragon had dispatched Crater, at least for the moment; he turned his attention to Shortstop. Tired of the spiked balls he has been throwing at him he lifted higher into the air, still holding the wrecked truck as a shield. Once high enough that Starbolt was not in his line of fire Emerald Dragon unleashed his acid spit again, looking to send Shortstop to the locker room for an early shower. He was letting Black Orchid deal with Huntress, knowing he left Broyko only moments before when he dropped off the patrol car.

Shortstop deftly evaded the acid spray and ran away from the Winged Titan.

{GM Note: Shortstop gets two actions every turn. He has spent his first action evading every time. He is very hard to hit. On the Acid (Chemical) attack Emerald Dragon needed a 1 to hit. Try looking for someone to team attack with. Attacks on the same phase when combined get either a +4 bonus to hit}

Vibron raised his hand and pointed it at Phantom.

ZZBBEEMMM

A vibratory beam blasted the Avatar of Vengeance.

“How’s that for a little shake, rattle, and roll, Whitey? I bet I loosened at least 4 fillings in your teeth.”

Midnight Bug identified himself as a friend to Manta Man. While it was strange that after missing all these months that Manta Man would show up here without the rest of the Crusaders. It will take a little more strangeness before he would even assume Manta Man might not be on the up and up.

Black Orchid and Starbolt released a vacuum blast and star bolt at the same time.

VRROOM! ZWALT!

The vacuum blast missed but the star bolt struck Hauntress. She screamed in agony as she was knocked back 5 feet. She looked at Starbolt with the look of death itself.

The Archer switched targets after Midnight Bug identified himself.

THWP! THWP!

Both arrows struck Vibron! The first hit him in the head. His helmet absorbed the majority of the blow and the second struck his shoulder. Vibron reached for his shoulder in pain. “So Foolish Fletcher you have not yet learned your lesson. I believe now is the time for class to be in session.”

Manta Lad was thrilled that his deception has worked. Knowing who all the players were, he fired on the Shortstop.

SHAKOW!

The Lightning blast missed.

I’m sorry to do this this way, but my bad health has caught up with me.  I have been in the hospital twice in the last three months and have been off of work for a year.  Most days it is just too much for me to play the game like I should, which is unfair to you and the others.  I will not be able to play anymore for the foreseeable future.  Please feel free to run my character or let someone take him over.

Manta Lad

Manta Lad:

OOC: Hi Tom.
Has Manta Lad ever heard of Midnight Bug or the bloodthirsty maniacs of Street Patrol before?  ;)
What percentage of Crushers to date has Manta Lad been able to ID?

With the seemingly infinite roster of the new Crushers, I want to make sure that the adolescent aqua-adventurer doesn't mistake Midnight Bug for yet another Crusher.

Thanks.

Best,
Jeff

GM

Hauntress is a known Crusher
Manstar is a known Crusher
Centurion is a known Super Villain
Shortstop is a known Super Villain
Vibron is a known Super Villain

All the others are unknown to Manta Lad, Det. Broyko, or the rest of your team.

OOC: If Phantom was known then Manta Lad would not view him as a Superhero.  Not sure how Manta Lad would divide the gray that is Vigilante or Villain.

Please be sure to deal with Phantom's Weakness - Prejudice: Vigilante

Vigilante: Phantom works outside the traditional system of law and order that the majority of costumed vigilantes normally operate under. Although he will never knowingly harm or endanger an innocent, he has no qualms with hunting down and executing die-hard criminals and supervillains.

This violent anti-hero perception that most people have of Phantom results in the reaction modifiers on the Charisma table from characters on both sides to become negative.

Here is The Wraith's Weakness: Prejudice - The community he helps fears and rejects him because of his appearance

Archer does not have this type of Weakness. So he and Midnight Bug can be treated as complete costumed strangers. How you react should be based on how John and Jack play Archer and Midnight Bug respectively.

I am sorry I didn't mention the Weaknesses sooner but I forgot about them and it just dawned on me that the Crusade players need to know about them more than anyone.

GM

Here below is the action that Archer is taking this turn. He has provided me several options but I have kept those secret but your PCs would know this below as they take their turn.

Archer: Archer still had his bow in hand but the landing caused some of his arrows to fall out of the quiver, scattering across the rooftop, one even falls off the roof.

<Archer: IC actions> Grabbing a handful of shafts (a couple broad-heads the rest blunt-heads) as he makes his way to the corner of the rooftop, Archer surveys the scene before him. Vibron was down on the street to his left, and what was apparently an apparition, which his Spatial Awareness could barely sense, to his right. Across the intersection a dragonfly looking clad criminal was hovering above a downed armored figure, and a short speeding sports figure had his back turned to both of them.

<Archer’s initial actions> I’d like Archer to hold his “Action” as long as possible. He’ll keep his Spatial Awareness tuned for the return of Crater, while he’s evaluating the scene at the intersection.

Manta Lad

Manta Lad:

OOC: Thanks.
So every Crusher that Manta Lad has met was a known Villain at least.

Phantom attacked Vibron, a known criminal. Even if it wasn't obvious that Wraith threw the manhole cover, he and Phantom arrived together.
Archer and Midnight Bug haven't attacked anyone yet, correct?

Thanks,
Jeff/ Manta Lad

GM

That is correct.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
IC:

Manta Lad sailed backwards and higher to scope out the whole fight (he should end up in the NE corner of the map, facing toward the map's center, please).

OOC:
His action will depend on what replies he gets back.

I should probably tell the new PCs that Manta Lad also has a reaction-modifying weakness. He's a teenager, so most adults don't take him seriously. Hopefully the darkness and distance make him look more like Manta Man.  :)

Best,
Jeff

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Black Orchid

Not sure I fully understand what is going on, but that might be intentional!

"Detective Broyko!" The Black Orchid is slightly stunned to see him, but she reacts quickly, staying back and keeping her defenses up.
"How did you get here so fast? That souped-up limo you travel around in must be something under the hood."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Starbolt

I was thinking that Starbolt would take the opportunity to attack the Hauntress, since she may be surprised that her darkness dissipated, and Starbolt would wonder what a dose of light would do for her "dark" disposition. If this interferes with someone else’s actions please let me know. He would also go along when M-L does his Manta-Man act. I will be sending out my actions to coordinate with the team.

Thanks,

Jamey(Hawk/Starbolt)

----------------------------------------------------------------
Manta Lad

OOC: The teen of tomorrow will hold his action until everyone can be identified as friend or foe.
Assuming that happens, he'll blast at Shortstop with lightning.
Thanks.

Best,
Jeff / Manta Lad
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Black Orchid

In light of your correction of my misunderstanding, I should redo my action.

"Nice try! Looks like you got caught with your darkness down. Starbolt, let's finish her before she tries something like that again."

The Black Orchid will look up to coordinate her attack with Starbolt and blast Hauntress a third time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Emerald Dragon

IC: Having dispatched Crater, at least for the moment, Emerald Dragon turns his attention to Shortstop. Tired of the spiked balls he has been throwing at him he lifts up into the air, still holding the wrecked car as a shield. Once high enough that Starbolt is not in his line of fire Emerald Dragon unleashes his acid spit again, looking to send Shortstop to the locker room for an early shower. He is letting Black Orchid deal with Huntress, knowing he left Broyko only moments before when he dropped off the car.

OOC: So basically Emerald Dragon will be using a little of his flight movement to clear Starbolt then will spit acid at Shortstop. If he is able to take out Shortstop he will look for his next target.

Midnight Bug

I will identify myself as a friend to Manta Man. (It is strange, but I will take a little more strangeness before I would even assume Manta Man might not be on the up and up.)

Emerson Electronics is fine.

Normally Fridays are fine for a game turn. Just had a couple of emergencies come up this weekend.
