Archer: Jinxed - Issue 15

Location: Center City near midnight

Vibron turned to face Archer. He raised his hand with his fingers stretched wide and his palm toward the Mystic Bowman. Vibron closed his hand into a fist and Archer felt a force grab his body. He could not see the force, it was invisible but since it was a type of solid energy the Mystic Bowman could “see” it with his spatial awareness.

Archer was pulled from the balcony his was hanging from. To a witness it would appear that David floated toward Vibron, but Archer could see the Psionic energy coming from Vibron’s fist. It appeared as a tendril like jelly stretching from the fist to enclose him from his shoulders to his ankles. Archer still had his bow in his hand and his quiver on his back. He couldn’t move his arms to use them. Vibron brought Archer to where they were helmet to face. He had held David’s body floating in the air in a prone position. It reminded David of the Monastery where the priest made him to do pushups with his head up so his eyes were always on the sacred symbol.

Vibron looked Archer in the eyes, “So who are you? Are you going to be one of those silent ones who refuse to speak?” “How am I to rue the day I first meet you if I don’t know your name? I guess I could look at your Superhero License but that isn’t very dramatic is it?”

“Mine is Vibron, so now it is your turn, what is your name?”

“Aw c’mon please tell me your name?”

“So you have decided we can’t be nemesis’s is that it? Please don’t be hasty to decide, I might surprise you and do
something unforgettable”.

“HahahaHa. Unforgettable … Nemesis. Get it! Hah!”

“Okay, I am going to call you Foolish Fletcher. The Foolish Fletcher who brought a bow to a powers fight.”

“You made a big mistake. Center City belongs to the Crushers. You are welcome to do your normal business here in your
civies but no crime fighting. Interfere with the Crushers and you will be crushed! Today is your lucky day Foolish Fletcher. Hauntress would kill you for your interference. Centurion and Manstar would beat you to a pulp. Me, I am going to let you run away. All you have to do is agree to leave Center City and never come back again.”

“Well, Foolish Fletcher, do you … agree?”

Archer thought, “Silence. It seems to un-nerve him.”

Using the jitsu techniques learned in the Kun Lun Yi’ monastery, Archer attempted to boost his chance to escape Vibron’s telekinetic grasp. By using a combination of his skills of escape and meditation, he attempted to manipulate his muscles and focus his adrenaline a manner to improve his chance of slipping Vibron’s hold on him.

He failed

{GM Note: Archer earned a bonus 1d6 for his skills. So it was a Carry Cap on TK Carry Cap battle. Archer’s 1d10+1d6 bonus vs. Vibron’s 1d8.  Archer rolled a total of 6 and Vibron rolled 8. Now I believe your Jinx statement.}

Vibron shook his helmet, “Foolish Fletcher, you should have taken my offer. Unfortunately I can’t continue our playtime. No matter how much I am enjoying it. I have to get back to the Crushers. They would abandon me without a second thought.”

“On second thought we don’t have to quit having fun. We can just change locations.”

Vibron made a swatting motion like he was shooing a fly away. The TK Field started carrying Archer away. About half way between where Archer was ambushed and the Crusher ambush site, Archer was let go by the TK Field.

He had been thrown to where the Crusher’s ambushed the patrol car with Dr. Marrow in it. He tried to angle his flight for a nearby rooftop.

Archer saw Crater being knocked out of the ambush area as he was being thrown in. Archer tumbled toward the rooftop. Using all his agility and training he prepared to land. Archer landed in a perfect roll that would have made a Parkour expert proud. {GM Note: 1 Damage, -1 PP, Archer made his Agility save.}

He still had his bow in his hand but his landing had caused some of his arrows to fall out of the quiver and scatter across the rooftop, one even fell off the roof. {GM Note: Rolled Agility saves for the bow and each arrow individually, Archer’s current condition reflects the number of arrows still in the quiver. None of the scattered arrows are broken and can be picked up with movement only}

Vibron ran down the street to join his fellow Crushers.

The Wraith and Phantom appeared on a street corner. The Wraith surveyed the scene. Wraith caused a nearby manhole cover to suddenly come spinning toward Vibron's head.

WHOOSH!

The manhole covers sailed right through his head without harming him.

The Phantom fired 3 rounds of his readied weapon at Vibron.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

The first two rounds went harmlessly through Vibron and the third stuck solid matter. Vibron twisted from the impact but showed no signs of pain.

On the other side of the fight a silent figure flew in. It came to where the location of the prone Centurion, trapped in his own battle suit.

The humanoid bug hovered over him.

OOC: Archer's storyline -beginning to think I should drop him, the guy is jinxed- Did Vibron have to roll a "to hit" to "grab" Archer with his TK? If so what did he roll (ergo the jinx). If not, why?

Thanks Man

GM

Vibron had to roll a 7 and he rolled a 5.

Thanks
Tom

Archer

Okay now Im really curious

Why a 7? I thought TK attacked on hand to hand and with Archer's Heightend Defense that starts him at a base to hit of 1. Unless of course he has adjustments via the GM, which is cool cool cool

Just trying to figure out what I'm missing.

I was expecting Archer to get vibrated to death because that attack seemed to give Vibron his best chance to hit.

Any chance of using his monastary skills to boost his ability to slip Vibron's grasp?

Thanks for patiently explaining to the blind how to see

GM

Yes, TK attacked on hand to hand and with Archer's Heightend Defense that starts him at a base to hit of 1.
Then add in Vibron's stat accuracy of +1 for 2.
Then add in Vibron's Heightened Expertise with TK of +4 for 6.
Then Vibron's Level 3 vs Archer's Level 1 of +1 for 7.

That is how the 7 was calculated.

Any chance of using his monastery skills to boost his ability to slip Vibron's grasp?

Give me a good story/reason on how it applies, he makes the skill save he will gain 1d6 to his roll to break free.

Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom

Initial Responses to: Archer Issue 14

OOC: Well now we know why no one takes the guy with a bow seriously I guess. My fault, I guess I should have gone with the Evasion defense like I initially talked about. So much for hitting hard, fast and moving on to the next target.

<Archer: IC Response> Silence. It seems to un-nerve him.

<Archer’s Actions> Using the jitsu techniques learned in the Kun Lun Yi’ monastery, Archer will attempt to boost his chance to escape Vibron’s telekinetic grasp. By using a combination of his skills of Escape and meditation, he will attempt to manipulate his muscles and focus his adrenaline (I think the situation would dump extra adrenaline into anyone’s system) in a manner to improve his chance of slipping Vibron’s hold on him.

Similar to judo and aikido he’s trying use his opponents force in a direction that will aid him. I’m picturing Archer resisting the grasp in an outward manner – say as if in a bear hug, then instantly relaxing, causing his opponent to focus on reasserting that grasp. At the same time he would then focus his adrenaline enhanced body to slip down past that force, maybe even able to use it to help push him through the bottom of said grasp. Hopefully were it is weakest.

If (pretty big one I’m betting) that works I’m hoping he can use the momentum of that force and spring up under Vibron’s chin and strike him with a blow beneath that helmet of his, directly on the chin.

<Archer’s Goals> Vengeance for his poor bike J

OOC: Was very excited to see Wraith’s plan work and Bonesnapper to get another TKO. It just occurred to me. In all these adventures, I don’t think either DarkStar or Archer have actually knocked out a villain on their own. Kills don’t count obviously.

For Phantom/Kev and Greg/The Wraith:

The police will be heading to the second ambush site unless you meet with them and recommend they don't. The Wraith can teleport to second ambush this turn and still take an action. Phantom can run there in 2 1/2 turns, ride with the police, or teleport The Wraith.  If you are wanting a police contact as your NPC, I have given you 4 to choose from.  I tried to give each officer personality to help you choose.  If you want to ask any questions about them let me know or you can choose to talk with them as they travel to the second ambush.

As always you can choose to leave now, but you miss your chance to fight alongside the Crusade Heroes.

For Archer/John

I have all I need from you, so unless you have any last minute revision you are good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wraith

IC:  The Wraith turns towards Phantom.  "I am called the Wraith.  Do you wish to assist at the other fight, a few blocks away?" he asks.  If Phantom says yes, Wraith will put his hand on Urban Assailant's shoulder.  "Brace yourself.  The first time can be disconcerting," he says, as he teleports them both to the scene of the other ambush.  If Phantom doesn't want to go with him The Wraith will teleport there anyway.

Once he sees the situation at the other scene, Wraith will cause a nearby manhole cover to suddenly come spinning towards Vibron's head.

Patrolling The Streets,

Greg

Archer

OOC: Awesome Greg - with the luck Archer's had recently (lol) Tom will roll a "20" to hit and the manhole cover will sail through helmet-head's vibrational defense and smack David in the cowled kisser (lol).

Reaally nice job with the Trash Man guys

John R

The Wraith

Your luck will change.  Although I hope the fight lasts a little longer.  In the fine tradition of superhero snappy banter/trash talk, I want a chance to call this guy "The Vibrator," just to see how angry it makes him.
