Crusade: Issue 74 - The Destroyers Counterattack

Location: Destroyers HQ.

{GM Note: I am much better at photo & art manipulation than I am at outright designing and drawing from scratch. Starting with the cover I am going to experiment with using Heroforge for coming up with more artwork for your enjoyment. I can’t replicate every costume exactly, but I hope I come close enough that you are accepting of it. If you can’t stand how I have done your character in Heroforge please let me know. I will try to improve it, if that is impossible then I won’t use it for your character. Thanks}.

[22] Annihilator fired a power blast at StrikeForce. “Destroyers execute Gamma – Alpha – Omega, now!”

BRRZZT! It hit.

{GM Note: Hits for 10 damage, armor stopped 6 and StrikeForce rolled with 4 points of damage}

"@$£*" cursed Dr Wildman (in appropriate comic code dialogue). The clever plan had fouled up. He shook his head in disbelief, how do you miss something that big?!

Dr Wildman cleared his head of questions and concentrated, focusing on keeping the portal open. His hope was that the Supernatural Sentry would quickly turn around and fly straight back. Noticing that Behemoth's attention was now on the unfortunate Erdbeben he kept the portal static in the hope that when Adamas returned, he would fly straight back into the lumbering pink bulk's rear.

[14] Adamas gritted his teeth in frustration and flew back through the portal, he relieved his anger on the enemy standing in front of the portal. He fired his eye blasts at Behemoth.

{GM Note: Adamas autofire is only 5X. He can’t increase it to 6X, Moving then holding you action except for counterblast isn’t allowed. I could have waited until later in the turn but since Adamas couldn’t see who moved on the other side of the portal I chose this action as best suiting the situation and the instructions provided. His high initiative doesn’t align with Adamas taking a wait and see approach. Please remember if you want to hold your action that means your movement is held too.}

ZZWWT!! First power blast hit

{GM Note: 9 points of damage which Behemoth rolled with all of it}

ZZWWT!! Second power blast hit

{GM Note: 7 points of damage which Behemoth rolled with all of it}

ZZWWT!! Third power blast hit

{GM Note: 8 points of damage which Behemoth rolled with all of it}

ZZWWT!! Fourth power blast hit

{GM Note: 7 points of damage which Behemoth rolled with all of it}

ZZWWT!! Fifth power blast hit

{GM Note: 6 points of damage which Behemoth rolled with all of it}

[12] Chrysalis fired three poison darts at StrikeForce

PFFT! First dart hit.

{GM Note: the dart is Bio damage. StrikeForce’s armor doesn’t protect against Bio. StrikeForce must make an Endurance save with -1 modifier to avoid taking 4 points of damage. If he failed his save, he would continue to take 4 points of damage each turn until he does make his Endurance Save. StrikeForce rolled with the save, adding 8 points to his save target (13+8-1) of 20. StrikeForce rolled a 7 he made his save.}

PFFT! second dart hit.

{GM Note: the dart is Bio damage. StrikeForce rolled with the save, adding 8 points to his save target (13+8-1) of 20. StrikeForce rolled a 13 he made his save. If he hadn’t rolled with it, he would have failed}

PFFT! third dart missed.

[11] Annihilator said, “StrikeForce you are tougher than you looked. Looks like I’ll need to melt your armor off you first.” He fired his disintegrator ray at him

ZOM! The ray beam missed.

Annihilator opened the door that Patty Plus was in front of. He flew through the door down the corridors.

[ 9] Annihilator flew outside the building up to the top of the roof. There he saw that the hanger doors had been completely iced over. He said into the comms “the hanger been sealed. Electrocutioner, I need to up here to open it up. I will try find who did this. Iron Maiden hurry up with extracting those files. We need you to start our ride so we can get out of here.”

Iron Maiden cursed and said. “Okay, Okay, I am hurrying. I will have the crypto-code running soon. All necessary files have been extracted. I need to launch the hard drive fraggers then I am out of here!”

Annihilator couldn’t see any flying superheroes or aircraft. He smelled the air for a scent that would tip him off to the source of all this ice. “hmm, There I got you now” he muttered.

ZOM! The disintegrator ray beam missed the bird he had smelled. The bird clawed loudly as it flew away as fast as it could.

Dreamweaver and Blizzard breathe again as they were relieved that the Crusader Copter hadn’t been found.

{GM Note: Annihilator had to make a perception test to try to find the Copter with another one of his senses since he couldn’t see or hear the Crusader Copter because of Dreamweaver’s illusions provided but vision and sound components. He succeeded in his perception test so he could attack with a -3.}

{On his attack he fumbled his attack. On the fumble table he rolled wrong target. For this situation a bird was the wrong target. He needed a 10 or less to hit the wrong target. He rolled an 11. He missed the bird}

[ 8] Ratman started sniffing the air. He had been attacked by an invisible assailant. He didn’t have to rely on is sight to fight. Not with his acute sense smelling and hearing. He would find his prey by its smell.

{GM Note: Ratman is making a perception test to acquire a target. 4.6 on page 107. He gets a +3 to his roll for his acute sense of smell. He rolled 20 twice which is a fumble. On a Critical Fumble the character perceives nothing, and therefore can’t attack the target and suffers a defense penalty of -3 or -6 depending on the situation (see 4.7.2). Since he is unable see Black Orchid, he will get a -3 to his defense if she attacks him}

Ratman was frustrated. How could he not smell it? He listened closely. He heard breathing where no one was standing. He climbed the ceiling following the sounds he heard. He would catch his prey.

{GM Note: In 3.1.5 Perception Tasks on page 104 it states each character is allowed one free save per turn to perceive things within ranger of their senses, using the best sense available to them. A character may call for an additional perception check at the cost of an action, if they want to try again on that turn. Ratman did. This time he past his perception task to acquire a target. Next turn he can attack Black Orchid with a -3 to hit.}

[ 7] Blizzard pointed his hand at Annihilator. The Artic Crusader’s hand started to shake. It shook so fast that it started to blur and the sound of buzzing could be heard.

VARR! Blizzard fired a vibration blast at Annihilator. It hit.

{GM Note: He needed an 11 to hit. Blizzard rolled a 1 and a 16. That is a normal hit. The vibe blast struck Annihilator’s forcefield for 16 points of damage. More than half got through his force field. Annihilator rolled with the rest of the damage}

[ 6] Shapeshifter stretched out her body wrapping her torso around StrikeForce’s waist and legs. He had his arms free but he was immobilized.

{GM Note: Shapeshifter has grappled StrikeForce in a hold. He can counterattack with -3 to hit or try to break free from the hold. Because he is immobilized, he receives a -6 to his Defense.}

[ 6] Electrocutioner teleported to the roof of the building. He fired an electro-bolt at the block of ice.

ZZWSSTT! A solid hit. The ice exploded completely. The hanger doors were free to be opened.

{GM Note: Since the ice was non-sentient object, all Electrocutioner need to roll was less than 20. He rolled a 1 and 19 for a critical hit. The critical success was a solid hit which provided a +3 points of damage to his damage roll}

[ 5] Chrysalis continued firing poison darts at StrikeForce, who was being held by Shapeshifter.

PFFT! First dart hit.

{GM Note: the poison dart is Bio damage. StrikeForce rolled with the save, adding 7 points to his save target (13+7-1) of 19. StrikeForce rolled a 3 he made his save.}

PFFT! second dart hit.

{GM Note: the poison dart is Bio damage. StrikeForce rolled with the save, adding 6 points to his save target (13+6-1) of 18. StrikeForce rolled a 14 he made his save. If he hadn’t rolled with it, he would have failed}

PFFT! third dart hit.

{GM Note: the poison dart is Bio damage. StrikeForce rolled with the save, adding 6 points to his save target (13+6-1) of 18. StrikeForce rolled a 11 he made his save.}

PFFT! fourth dart hit.

{GM Note: the poison dart is Bio damage. StrikeForce rolled with the save, adding 6 points to his save target (13+5-1) of 17. StrikeForce rolled a 6 he made his save.}

[ 5] Black Orchid continued her assault on Ratman. She fired a vacuum blast at him.

ZUMPT! The blast made a solid hit. Ratman felt a bone curdling, energy draining, chill run through his body. He hung onto the ceiling with his claws painting as he suddenly felt very exhausted. He continued listening for his prey. Soon it will be his turn to attack.

{GM Note: Black Orchid received a bonus +3 to hit because of Ratman’s critical fumble in his attempt to acquire her as a target. She needed an 18. She rolled a 1 and a 7. Her critical success was a solid hit of +3 to her draining points. She rolled 20 points of drain to Power Points. She reduced Ratman’s power points by 23 points.}

[ 4] Realizing that he had not made it to his preferred target, but he still had a Destroyer that needed to be dealt with, StrikeForce continued fighting Shapeshifter. He kept his senses active and continued attempting to move but unfortunately since he was being wrapped up by Shapeshifter, he was a stationary target. He also didn’t want to allow one of the other Destroyers get the drop on him. He targeted Shapeshifter with two attacks.

WHIF! The first Escrima attack missed.

{GM Note: StrikeForce had a -3 modifier for being in a grapple hold and his normal -1 for a dual Escrima attack. He needed a 12 or less to hit. He rolled a 14.}

KRAK! The second Escrima attack hit.

{GM Note: StrikeForce had a -3 modifier for being in a grapple hold and his normal -1 for a dual Escrima attack. He needed a 12 or less to hit. He rolled a 10. He rolled 15 points of damage. Shapeshifter’s pliable body acted like armor stopping most of the damage. She rolled with the remaining damage.}

Shapeshifter smiled as she continued to hold StrikeForce in her grip.

[ 4] "Iron Maiden seems REALLY interested in that keyboard," Patty thought to herself, "and I don't have time to go back to my body in the next building and join this fight in the flesh. Hmm..."

She moved herself between Iron Maiden and the computer she was working on, keeping her astral body visible to make it harder for Iron Maiden to see the keyboard and monitor. Patty also began waving her hands in front of Iron Maiden's face and yelling "Nanny, nanny, boo boo ferrous face!!!"

[ 4] Iron Maiden released sounds of frustration. “Okay, I have gotten enough of this done. We have to see how good the CHESS Techs really are.” She stood up and made a vulgar hand gesture at Patty Plus. She triggered her jet boots as she ran through the doorway. She took the hallway and stairs in leaps and bounds as she moved upstairs.

Seeing Erdbeben take the fight to Behemoth, Strike Force was impressed with the new heroes' bravery. "Well, that sure is pitting your head in the lions mouth." He thought to himself.

[ 2] Erdbeben could feel his stomach slowly drop to the floor as he realized that he had just given Behemoth one of the strongest vibro-blasts that he'd been able to generate since acquiring his powers and the mountain of a man, if you could call him a man, didn't even flinch. And now, he was standing right in front of him...

Reacting more out of pure fear than reason and logic, Erdbeben blasted Behemoth with two more vibro attacks

VARR! The first vibe blast hit.

{GM Note: Erdbeben needed a 13 or less on his multi attack. He rolled a 10. Erdbeben roll 15 points of damage. Behemoth rolled with all the damage.}

VARR! The second vibe blast hit.

{GM Note: Erdbeben needed a 13 or less on his multi attack. He rolled a 9. Erdbeben roll 10 points of damage. Behemoth rolled with all the damage.}

Erdbeben slipped out of the door of the room, into a hallway, he began put some distance between himself and the, well... Behemoth. Unknowingly to himself, Erdbeben was screaming as he ran. Some would later say they could hear screaming like a little girl coming from somewhere in the building.

[ 2] Rubicon set his pistol to normal and fired his pistol at Chrysalis and Ratman with 4 shots.

{GM Note: Rubicon’s pistol doesn’t have the autofire modifier on his pistol. It can be added in the future with CP}

BLAM! The first pistol shot at Chrysalis missed.

{GM Note: Firing 4 shots with the pistol is a -9 to hit for each shot. Rubicon needed a 1 to hit Chrysalis. He rolled a 17}

BLAM! The second pistol shot at Chrysalis missed.

{GM Note: Firing 4 shots with the pistol is a -9 to hit for each shot. Rubicon needed a 1 to hit Chrysalis. He rolled a 17 a second time}

BLAM! The third pistol shot at Ratman missed.

{GM Note: Firing 4 shots with the pistol is a -9 to hit for each shot. Rubicon received a +3 to hit because of Ratman’s critical fumble in trying to acquire Black Orchid as a target. Rubicon needed a 4 to hit Ratman. He rolled a 19}

BLAM! The fourth pistol shot at Ratman missed.

{GM Note: Firing 4 shots with the pistol is a -9 to hit for each shot. Rubicon received a +3 to hit because of Ratman’s critical fumble in trying to acquire Black Orchid as a target. Rubicon needed a 4 to hit Ratman. He rolled an 18}

Rubicon did not perceive what Iron Maiden had been doing at the computer or that Patty had moved there.

{GM Note: Rubicon needed an 11 or less on his perception task test. He rolled a 14}

M.I.S.H.A. sprung from Dr. Wildman's portal - WHOOMPF!

Right into the massive hand of BEHEMOTH.

<<?!?!?!?!>>

M.I.S.H.A. attempted claw, claw, bite Behemoth with multi-action.  He pushed his attacks.

WHIF! The first claw attack missed.

{GM Note: M.I.S.H.A. received -6 to his attacks for the multi-action. He needed a 6 to hit. M.I.S.H.A. rolled a 20 and a 2. This is a miss but not a critical fumble.}

WHIF! The second claw attack missed.

{GM Note: M.I.S.H.A. received -6 to his attacks for the multi-action. He needed a 6 to hit. M.I.S.H.A. rolled a 10.}

CHOMP! The third attack which was a bite hit.

{GM Note: M.I.S.H.A. received -6 to his attacks for the multi-action. He needed a 6 to hit. M.I.S.H.A. rolled a 1 and 4. This is a critical hit. On the Critical Success table, he rolled a 16 which resulted in Behemoth being knocked off balance. Behemoth suffered a -3 to his defense until his next turn. M.I.S.H.A rolled 23 points of damage. Behemoth rolled with most of it but did that damage he was visibly hurt.}

Behemoth bellowed in pain. “Ouch! You hurt me you stupid dog!”

[ 2] Dreamweaver fired a TK blast at Electrocutioner.

WHIF! The TK blast missed. Dreamweaver cried out in pain. She strained her arm in the attempt to attack Electrocutioner.

{GM Note: Dreamweaver needed 12 or less to hit. She rolled a 20 and 15. On the critical fumble table she rolled an 11 which is an arm strain. She suffered 1 point of damage. She rolled with the task adding 5 to the save target. She received a -1 for the damage, (11+5-1= 15) Dreamweaver needed make an Endurance save of 15 or less. She rolled a 19. Her left arm is now useless.

[ 1] Behemoth yelled “Adamas, I will get you and your stupid little dog next but first I have to take out that Referee!” He ran out the door going the same direction that Erdbeben had gone. He caught up with Erdbeben taking a swing at him with his powerful fist.

WHIF! The punch missed.

{GM Note: Behemoth needed a 10 or less. He rolled an 18.}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Woo Boo! New issue! I'll work on my reply soon.

Jamey

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Argh! not only do I miss, I'm now far away from the battle... Dr. Wildman, calling Dr. Wildman Stat!

Jon

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dr. Wildman, Calling Dr. Wildman... Stat!

Jon

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree, Dr. Wildman, hurry up, We need the Big Guy Stat. I am pretty sure that Erdbeben would appreciate it as well. StrikeForce did not make it to his preferred target, but he wasn't stopped too far away from her.

Jamey

---------------------------------------------------------------------

OOC: 😂😂😂 All good plans eh...ooops!

"@$£*" cursed Dr Wildman in appropriate comic code dialogue.

OOC: Dr Wildman will keep the spell active as his action. Aim for the green glowing hole in the sky...

Steve

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So Adamas is staying under Dr. Wildman's mind control for this turn?

Tom

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If Adamas has not engaged Behemoth by the time it comes around to her turn, The Black Orchid will create a 3 foot ball of darkness around Behemoth's head.

If it looks like "Plan A" is back in action, she will continue her assault on Ratman.

Marc

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think Adamas is out of range of the Amulet as soon as he pops through the portal...

Steve

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You are right, he is currently out of range. So mind control is gone.

Tom

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Realizing that he had not made it to his preferred target, but he still had a Destroyer that needed to be dealt with, StrikeForce will continue fighting Shapeshifter. He will keep his senses active and and continue moving, so as not to be a stationary target. He also doesn't want to allow one of the other Destroyers get the drop on him. He will target Shapeshifter with two attacks. Seeing Erdbeben take the fight to Behemoth, Strike Force is impressed with the new heroes' bravery. "Well, that sure is pitting your head in the lions mouth." He thinks to himself.

OOC: When/if he has taken care of Shapeshifter, he will move on to Iron Maiden if she is still active.

Steve, It was a good plan, but unfortunately, no plan survives fist contact unchanged. Keep swinging my friend.

Jamey

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

What options does Adamas have?

Jon

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

He is on the other side of the portal.  So he has to either fly through the portal or fly from the Refuge Islands to the Destroyers HQ.

His ethereal vision can't see through the portal so he will have to find a target when reenters the room. With his high initiative there is a good chance that Behemoth will be still standing in front of the portal.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Tom

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Erdbeben could feel his stomach slowly drop to the floor as he realized that he had just given Behemoth one of the strongest vibro-blasts that he'd been able to generate since acquiring his powers and the mountain of a man, if you could call him a man, didn't even flinch. And now, he was standing right in front of him...

Reacting more out of pure fear than reason and logic, Erdbeben blasts Behemoth with two more vibro attacks before trying to slip out of the door of the room, presumably into a hallway, so that he can at least put some distance between himself and the, well... Behemoth.

OOC: Erdbeben will attack Behemoth twice (-3 per each attack) and attempt to exit the room through the door to the upper right of his position. If it is a hallway, he will move to this maximum amount and see if big B follows him or gets distracted by others in the room.

Paul

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Am I in control now?

Jon

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Are any of us ever in control Jon? 😂😂😂

Yes you are...go, go, go!

Steve

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Deep... deep... philosophical question

Marc

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bunch of clowns in this group I see, very funny....

Adamas grits his teeth in frustration and flies back through the portal, holding his action to relieve his anger on the next enemy to move, whoever that might be... 6X Powerblast Autofire.

Jon

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Iron Maiden seems REALLY interested in that keyboard," Patty thought to herself, "and I don't have time to go back to my body in the next building and join this fight in the flesh.

OOC: It's probably blazingly obvious, but my goal is to either completely prevent Iron Maiden from doing whatever she is trying to do on the computer or else make it much more difficult.

Best,

Shane

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

 All,

 Sorry for the late response!

 OOC:

He'll set his pistol to normal and fire his pistol on autofire at Chrysalis and Ratman for 4 shots.

 If possible, I want to have Rubicon perceive if he notices Iron Maiden by the computer and Patty.  If he can, he'll attempt to Identify Tech.  Demy will call out to others, "Watch Maiden!" also letting them know what the terminal is (if he knows).

M.I.S.H.A. springs from Dr. Wildman's portal - WHOOMPF!

Right into the massive hand of BEHEMOTH.

<<?!?!?!?!>>

M.I.S.H.A. attempt claw, claw, bite Electrocutioner with multi-action.  He'll push these attacks if he can.

Greg
