As the Eldritch
energy dissipated StrikeForce took in his surroundings. Evidently, they were in
a chemistry lab. The Cyborg Crusader activated his senses to attempt to gather
as much information as possible.
Crossing the
threshold of Dr. Wildman's portal, Demy spied cover in the room to the left of
the large hole in the wall created by Adamas.
He thought to
himself: “Wow! And I thought Ground
Pounder could hit hard!”
Quickly he made his
way to the corner, Demy slammed his back to the wall and peered down the
opposite hallway to check for movement while readying his pistol, set for stun.
"M.I.S.H.A., the
hallway behind me: BEZOPASNY"
With a bound,
M.I.S.H.A. passed Demy and rounded the corner to the hallway on the top left of
the room they came in and positioned himself secure the hallway leading south/west
of the room they are in.
Dr Wildman waited
until all the Crusaders were through the portal then with a gesture the emerald
circle cracked with eldritch energy and dissipated into a thousand sprite-like
sparks. William scanned his surroundings. They were in a lab; a chemistry lab
from the looks of it given the abundance of glass and Bunsen burners.
Over his Comm link StrikeForce
said " Blizzard, Dreamweaver, what is the status up top"? While
waiting on the response he addressed his teammates around him. "Alright
everyone, keep your eyes and ears open, anyone with sensory powers keep them
active. Let's move forward and be ready to engage our opponents when they
arrive."
Blizzard reported
that Dreamweaver and he have seen no sign of any of the Destroyers. The hanger
doors would have difficulty opening with the covering of ice he had applied.
CHESS Knight Demanis reported over the comms that
the squad had entered the lobby. They were securing the first-floor offices and
the employees. The security station and guards have been advised of the
exercising of a warrant on the top 3 floors and they were not to intervene.
Erdbeben marveled at
his hands and the power that he was now able to emit due to the medical
experiment that had gone awry. But his attention was quickly drawn to the lab
that they now find themselves in. “Now I'm starting to feel at home!” he thought
to himself.
The journal and vial
with the Ratman fluid both move through the air as if of their own volition as
Black Orchid examined them.
William watched with
astonishment as the pages of a notebook, clearly mauled by a giant rodent (to
his trained eye), seemed to flip on their own as if an invisible hand were
turning them...which of course it was. A quick scan ‘through’ the shoulder of
Black Orchid revealed that this was Edward Fisk’s notebook, the details of his
experimentation with mammal DNA.
‘Another scientific
abuse of nature’ mused the dynamic druid angrily to no one in particular.
"A rat
guy?" Patty Plus said. "Like he's part rat or controls rats or
something? That's just cheesy!"
As Dr. Wildman pointed
out and reviewed Mr. Fisk's notebook, Erdbeben got even more excited (if that
was even possible given that he was now part of a superhero team raiding a
super villain hideout!) and said, "Let me see that real quick! I might be
able to gather some information about him."
Taking the notebook,
James flipped through it with a studied eye looking for any warnings, noted
side effects, or even if there was a section on antidotes. However, he did not
spend a long time reviewing the notebook, just enough time to let everybody
else gather their senses and be ready to move on to the next area.
{GM Note: Since both
Erdbeben and Black Orchid said they would keep the journal. I rolled initiative
for both. They tied. Erdbeben had the higher Agility so he gets the journal.}
Slowly the vial disappeared
as The Black Orchid pocketed the item. "I can use this," Black Orchid
said.
The Black Orchid then
examined the experiment in progress and quickly assessed that Adamas entry has
destroyed any current or future value.
Adamas stood to his
feet, brushing the chemicals and debris off as best he could, and began to scan
the area with his ethereal vision, hoping the internal walls are not as well
shielded as the externals. He didn’t
identify any threats on this floor. His eyes glowed with the red energy of his
blast as he prepared for being attacked.
Adamas scanned the
entire floor that the New Crusaders were on. He was able to identify the use of
each room.
Black Orchid commented
to the others, "There might be some damage from the natural gas here if
the fighting escalates. Can we get the gas to building shut off quickly if we
need to?"
Detective Broyko
replied, “Considered it done. We will get the gas cut off to the entire block.”
Patty Plus
investigated the next floor up. She was able to identify each of the room’s use
as she moved through them. She was shocked with she entered a room which had
five of the Destroyers in it. They were watching the video cameras which show
the hallways on all the floors. One showed M.I.S.H.A. Another showed Rubicon
pressed against the wall inside a room looking into the hallway. On another
display was the newscast of Dr. Wildman speaking to the camera informing the
world that the New Crusaders would be coming for Dr. Apocalypse after defeating
the Doomsday Robot. Several computer screens are analyzing the news broadcast
of the New Crusaders fighting the Doomsday Robot. The computers appeared to be
trying to determine the powers, capabilities, and fighting methods of the New
Crusaders.
Patty Plus reported
back to Adamas what she found.
Dr Wildman found his
ire roused, but he suppressed it for the moment - there were bigger issues to
deal with...but here was a lead…
“Size of a wolf!” he
spoke firmly and tapped his staff on the floor. The staff disappeared and
another emerald circle of eldritch energy formed on the floor by his feet, then
rose vertically, enveloping him. Where once the good doctor stood, now appeared
a growling wolf.
The wolf sniffed the
air and then the notebook and using his prodigious olfactory senses found the
scent of his quarry...Edward Fisk!
When everybody was
ready, Erdbeben slipped the notebook into his medical bag and moved on with the
group.
StrikeForce moved
forward ready to fight when the enemy presented themselves.
The hunt for the
Destroyers had begun...

threats / targets originating down the top right hallway between the room they
found themselves and the new hole in the side of the building.

at any threatening target that comes from the hallway he is aiming at. If the group moves down the right side of the
building, Demy will follow, but won't lead covering those that do.
M.I.S.H.A. will fire
his cannon (if at range) or claw (if melee) at any target that presents itself
coming from the left side hallway or entering from another room into that
hallway. If the team goes down this side of the building, he can take point.

Adamas stands to his

toward the nearest threat, placing himself between the team and any threat he
is able to identify.
His eyes glow with
the red energy of his blast as he prepares for the next phase of the attack.

It was really cool to
read the issue for all the recap and then BOOM! Adamas attacks.
Note: When in her
astral form Patty is non-corporeal so she wouldn't actually lift the notebook
up and flip through it :) She *can* become visible if she chooses, which is the
only time she can speak.

For my turn, I would
like to investigate the next floor up. My next two turns will actually be
investigating the floors one turn at a time. If she finds Destroyers or
finishes a floor with nothing remarkable, she will report back either way.
Preferably to Adamas.
Also, if a serious
melee breaks out where it looks like team members will need help, she'll want
to get back to her body and get into the action as soon as possible.
