Crossover: Between Zombies and a Hard Place! - Issue 7

Location: Stonehenge, England

{GM Note: To help with clarity I will be writing this issue from the outside of the battle (right side of map below) toward the inside of the Vacuum Tower (left side of map below). I will use the notation of [#] to show what phase this is occurring to help establish the time line.

Raven shrugged off Cure’s concern. “Don’t worry about me. I have inhaled worse stuff from my tribe’s peace pipe than this. Go help the others at the recovery station while I help those that have entered the Vacuum Tower.” Having briefed her, he lifted off the ground. Flapping his great wings he flew toward the battle.

Cure surveyed the battlefield. Chariot was still floating over the battlefield even though it was a destroyed hulk. At the edge where they had entered Stonehenge several of the flyers were still fighting. A group of the ground based heroes had moved to the center of the area to engage the Tarot Masters of the Pentacle suit. A group of heroes had successfully gained entrance to the Vacuum Tower itself.

[44] Cure rose from the ground. She turned toward the direction that Raven had showed her the recovery station was. She gathered up her containment suit but did not retrieve her comm. or her amulet. After she had put on her containment suit she flew off.

"My goodness buddy, but you had me worried for a moment there!  I cannot wait to hear all about your adventure inside that tower.  Why don't we wrap this current assignment up and bring our new friends to Charlie's where we enjoy your tale over martinis?"  Elwood appeared to be speaking to the large metal object beside him and as he did he let out deep exhale which expelled so much stress he must have held inside with great effort.  After a moment's pause he bent over a bit and observed the object more closely and after another shorter strong exhale, turned to the impressive hero also nearby.  "Mr. Adamas, Harvey believes this object is critical to those building the horrible device in that tower and he believes the mechanism will not work without it, therefore it might be quite desirable to them.  I very much would like to leave this place but I understand that there yet is work to be done.  Please don't let those aggressors take it back."

Hearing Elwood’s request, Adamas held back close to the floating metal device, and took a defensive position.

[37] Dynamo changed targets. She flew passed Mother Superior. She came up behind Diablo blasting him with an electric zap. Diablo rolled with the blast and continued to fight.

[24] Super Nova stopped his hovering. He flew in the direction of Elwood. “The Master demands the return of his flow regular! You will give it to me now!”

[24] Adamas interrupted the villain’s action with blasts from his vision. The first 4 of his shots missed but the last 1 hit. Super Nova shrugged of the blast like it was nothing. He continued coming.

[24] Super Nova fired a flame blast near the stolen part. “I don’t care whether I can see you or not. You will surrender the Master’s property.”

[24] The piece of equipment started to bob and weave and Elwood ducked down behind Adamas as he bobbed and weaved himself.

[24] Sister Indigo fired a spirit bolt next to the weaving piece of equipment missing whatever it was she intended to hit. “I think we were fooled there isn’t someone holding it. It must being held by that guy hiding behind Adamas.”

[21] Skylark flew after the departing flyers. She came upon Diablo. She unleashed her sonic blast striking him. “Aaargh” he cried in pain.

[18] Diablo ignored the insolent heathen who attacked him. He must do as his beloved Master commanded. He would be the one to retrieve the important piece of equipment. “You know not what you have taken and who you have taken it from Old Man. Give it back” He fired a flame blast at Elwood. The flames missed.

[18] Mother Superior closed on the stolen equipment and its thief. “Fools, I will win the eternal love of our Master by recovering it so the work on the Matter Conversion Vacuum can be completed. Give it to me old man” She cried as she fired a lightning bolt from her magic flail. The electricity caused the hairs on the back of Elwood’s neck stand up as the bolt narrowly missed.

[18] America Woman continued her aerial fight on Diablo. She hit him with a light beam. He screamed in pain again but remained airborne.

[17] Emerald flew toward Elwood. “Another meta of the mind is it? I am willing to bet my TK is stronger than yours”. She reached out her hand. A glow surrounded it and then surrounded the stolen equipment. She pulled but it didn’t move. Emerald frowned. Beads of sweat appeared on her forehead as she strained to move the flow regulator but couldn’t. She locked eyes with Elwood.

[17] Elwood watched in stunned surprised with Emerald rolled her eyes into her head and fall to the ground unconscious. He had been so focused on her he did not see Molecule Man leap into the air. He had jumped into the air striking Emerald with a mighty punch. When he landed next to his fallen foe he said,”That was for Gale, mind witch.”

[14] Blastar flew up behind Super Nova, “Tell your Master all you have to bring him is grief.” He blasted Super Nova with his power blast. Super Nova grunted in pain but continued to fly.

[10] Klondike leaped into the air. His powerful punch smashed into Mother Superiors’ shield. The magic shield held but Mother Superior was hurt by the blow but it wasn’t significant. She continued to fly.

{Center of Stonehenge Field, 32 Inches from Vacuum Tower}

[33] Tomahawk cried the battle cry of his ancestors as he swung his magical weapon at the EIGHT of Pentacles, missing. He followed up with a punch that missed as well.

[27] Lightning Fist swung his katana at Knight of Pentacles. The Knight parried the first blow with his sword. The second strike got passed his defenses and armor. The Knight of Pentacles grimaced with pain.

[26] The Page of Pentacles fired his pistol at Resonator. His shot missed.

[24] Volcanic Man circled the NINE of Pentacles. “Okay, you mug, wise up and lay down before I have to really hurt ya.” He landed a massive punch in the chest of the Tarot Master Trooper. NINE of Pentacles staggered but continued to stand.

[22] EIGHT of Pentacles fired his pistol at Tomahawk. His shot missed wide.

[20] Knight of Pentacles attempted to stab Lightning Fist with his sword. The martial artist expertly side stepped the lunge and the Knight stabbed air.

[19] Enforcer pummeled the Knight of Pentacle’s armor with his force field.

[18] Evergreen missed the NINE of Pentacles with her thorns.

[16] Kali hit the EIGHT of Pentacles with her Power-chucks. The Tarot Master Trooper’s armor absorbed most of the glancing blow.

[16] NINE of Pentacles missed Volcanic Man with his shot.

[14] Dreamweaver missed the Page of Pentacles with her TK Blast.

[14] Resonator hit the Page of Pentacles with his Sonic Blast. The page dropped in pain but righted himself before crashing. He remained in flight.

{Outside the Vacuum Tower, less than 5 inches away}

[25] Priestess raised her hand. She drew life energy from Centurion X. “Surrender Golden One, The Master is loving and forgiving. He will cleanse you of your transgressions.” She eyed the Zombies nervously then ran inside of the Vacuum Tower.

[22] Feeling his energy being drained away, CX faced the Arcana's Priestess.  The cloud of steel swirling about him shot forth following her in the Vacuum Tower and began to circle in orbits around her.  Tighter and tighter their path became until they have joined into a cable of solid steel. It cinched down grabbing the foul invader.

Seeing his foe wrapped up tightly, he looked over the sea of zombie slaves spreading out and looking to feed.  He thought to himself, "We'll have to clean that up later.  If we don't stop the tower, they won't be a problem anyway."

He then flew into the tower to maintain his High Guard position above Dark Star's force.

Over the newly created Comm. Channel he said "Gold One to Big Blue, back in position.  Anyone need a hand in here?"

He looked around to find an ally in need or an opponent in need of a thrashing.

[17] Phantom had nothing to say and didn't interact with anyone.  Phantom jumped off the platform, tucked and rolled, and ended up in a firing position behind one of the few remaining stones of Stonehenge. Phantom loaded a grenade into his grenade launcher and fired it at the center of the group of zombies nearest to him.

KA-BOOM!

The grenade had landed in the center of 15 zombies. The explosion ripped the zombies apart. Eleven of the zombies were blow apart and didn’t move anymore. Four of the Zombies did not lose any significant body parts. They moved toward Phantom reaching for him.

[15] The female Zombie rounded the rock that Phantom was behind. She reached out to grab him but missed.

{GM Note: Starbolt and Red Hawk actions and replies are in the next section}.

The other zombies which were not in the explosion vainly searched for a way into the Vacuum Tower. They knew there was food in there and they wanted it.

{Inside the Vacuum Tower}

[Prior turn] Bulwark dodged and DarkStar’s fist slammed into the wall behind, the impact reverberating throughout the tower. What am I doing? This is Bull and the Destroyers all over again. There is too much at stake to get caught up in personal grudge matches. As the battle raged, it started to take its toll on the structure of the tower. Rivets popped, welds broke at the seams, and a steel beam narrowly missed DarkStar as his hyper-intellect observed it all. Zombies or no, I shouldn’t have rushed the team in here. We are outnumbered and still have two levels of the tower to clear according to the General.

One of War Wagon’s shots destroyed a bracket holding a joist. As the beam swings down barely missing DarkStar, the titan of transport reflexively caught the steel support structure. Quickly a secondary plan forms and without hesitation DarkStar adjusted. Have to let those preparing to enter the tower updated on what we have going on in here. Sub-vocalizing his jaw mic, Joshua instructed Cybil to activate and override all StarCorp communication devices. “Team Blue, Junior, Do your damage, but I need you at the stairwell immediately. You have point when we head to the second level.

Armorman Junior replied, “Roger that and don’t call me Junior!”

DarkStar continued unfazed. “Fire support elements fallback to the southwest. Archer red nocks on the north wall, War Wagon missiles to the east on my mark. ”

[37] Red Fury said, “Tarot Masters take them down!” She moved over to DarkStar. She kicked him in the back of his legs and swung her cutlass at his head. SMASH! Her blade destroyed his goggles.

{GM Note: Kick: 15 damage; -15 Invulnerability; Cutlass: Critical Hit on the eyes, No roll for blindness because of goggles protection. Goggles destroy; 19 damage; -15 Invulnerability, -4 PP}

[35] Epsilon fired dual TK Blasts at the Knight of Swords. One blast hit his armor and the other got passed it. The Knight rolled with the damage.

[30] With a simple nod of acknowledgment Daniel calculated for a maximum spread and uses his four remaining Explosive Arrowheads to effect as many of the super-villains on the north wall as possible. “Heads down heroes."

thwip thwip thwip thwip ... 'boom boom boom boom '

The Archer dodged and weaved back toward the entrance, using any obstructions possible for cover Daniel took one side, leaving the other side for War Wagon.

Two arrows exploded in front of Justice Avenger. The blasts knocked her out.

Next to her Cindermaid is knocked out by the explosions as well.

Anima-Man was caught in the explosions. He dropped to his knees hurt. Slowly he stood back up with anger seething in his eyes.

Red Fury rolled with the explosive blasts. While she was hurt she was still in the fight.

Snowman’s ice armor was damaged by the explosions but Snowman was unhurt.

Bulwark didn’t notice he was caught in the explosions.

DarkStar was hurt in the explosions but still in the fight.

{GM note: 1st arrow: 11 damage; -6 PP and -5 HP. 2nd arrow: 11 damage; -6 PP and -5 HP.}

The other two arrows of Archers blew up in front of Mortal. He rolled with the damage and grunted in pain but was still in the fight.

The Page of Knights was hurt when the two explosions got passed his armor. The trooper fell unconscious.

{GM note: -3 HP for the unconscious roll on 1d100. Rolled 3 for KO}

Hierophant, Ace of Swords, was protective by his flame aura from most of the explosion and he rolled with the damage which got passed it.

Snowman’s armor was further ruined by these explosions but he remained unharmed

Two of Swords was hurt by the explosions. His armor does not protect him enough. He falls unconscious to the floor.

{GM note: -7 HP for the unconscious roll on 1d100. Rolled 7 for KO}

Anima-Man was hurt by the explosions but he was still in the fight.

Armorman Junior’s armor protected him from the explosions.

[27] Anima-Man said, “Your going down you hooded scum!” Anima-Man raised tentacles from the floor around Archer attempting to smash him with them. The tentacles missed.

[26] Mortal missed with his pistol shot at Armorman Junior.

[24] Black Orchid felt that there was enough noise to risk quietly talking on her intercom. "Black Orchid here. There's a great deal of odd equipment in here. I'm going to try to figure it out. Also, a bunch of the bad guys are pinned against the wall by the zombies. More later."

"Hmm, what of these are already working and how can I disable or reverse their effects?"

Black Orchid disabled one of the Power Generators in a permanent manner by creating a magnetic lockout on the interface panel.

The Vacuum Tower’s lights flickered and dimmed. Emergency lighting came on. One of the consol turned off as the others continue to run. The Force Field shimmered but returned to its prior state.

{GM Note: Black Orchid, DarkStar, and CX figure out that the internal power for light and the consol were rerouted to the force field. So while it is magical it still needed to be feed with earthly energy to be maintained.}

[23] Fortress created a Wind Elemental. He sent it toward Anima-Man. The Elemental bashed the villain until he was incapacitated.

[23] FIVE of Swords removed the head of a zombie with an enchanted bullet. The zombie fell to the ground unmoving.

[23] A zombie attacked TEN of Swords. He missed with his attempted grab.

[22] Snowman created an ice bridge to move across the room. He skated toward Archer. “You think your arrows are cool. I am the master of devices!”  He struck Archer with an Ice Ray. Archer shook under the covering of ice and passed out from the pain.

{GM Note: 12 damage; -6 PP and -6 HP. 6% chance for unconsciousness. Rolled 1d100 resulting in 6 – KO}

[22] War Wagon fired 4 missiles and zoomed back to the back of the room.

The 1st missile was a dud, it didn’t explode.

The 2nd missile hit TEN of Swords. The Tarot Master Trooper shielded his team from the blast. The explosion knocked him out.

The 3rd missile exploded knocking out SIX and EIGHT of Swords.

The FIVE of Swords was hurt by the 3rd missile but was still in the fight

The 3rd missile’s explosion did not get passed the SEVEN of Swords armor.

The 4th missile exploded but it did not get passed FIVE of Sword armor.

The 4th missile’s explosion hurt the SEVEN of Swords but he was still in the fight.

[21] Magnetor fired a magnetic wave at Mortal. The wave bashed Mortal but he was still able to continue with the fight.

[21] King of Swords blew a huge hole in the chest of a zombie. It fell to the ground unmoving.

[21] NINE of Sword fired his pistol at a zombie. His shot missed.

[20] Bulwark threw a punch at DarkStar. DarkStar ducked the punch.

[20] Queen of Swords fired her pistol at a zombie taking it down. It fell to the ground unmoving.

[18] Armorman Junior swung two punches at Mortal both of the punches missed. He leaped back to the stairwell as planned.

[18] Knight of Swords fired his pistol at a zombie. His shot missed.

[17] FOUR of Swords missed with his pistol shot he had fired at a zombie.

[16] The titan of transport swung the steel girder like a massive club in a mid-waist arc at his enemies. He struck Bulwark hard. Bulwark doubled with pain then stood up. “Is that all you got big man?” He said.

*WHOUMP*

Combat teleporting back to the stairwell with Armorman, DarkStar surveyed what was left of the forces arrayed against them. "CX heads up. Team Gold might have boogies exiting the tower. Could use you and Starbolt any time you're free." Focusing on communicating to the team with his amulet, "Harvey, how are you and Elwood doing? Magus protect that Rabbit. I don't know what he did, but I don't think Cr’tegorf is going to take it lying down.

Starbolt radio linked up with DarkStar. "DarkStar, this is Starbolt. I am headed to your position as soon as possible." Heading to link up with the rest of the inside Forces. "No sense letting them attack from the rear, if I can help it." he thought to himself

[15] Hearing DarkStar's transmission the Stellar-Powered Sentinel flew to Red Hawk "I could use your help. Let's inform CX and Gold Team and see if we can give these guys more than they can handle."

As they talked Space Racer, Condor, and Raven flew up to them. Together they formed up into flying formation.

"Hope this works," Starbolt thought to himself. "We, and more importantly Earth cannot afford for this to be anything other than a success. Guess it is time to take off the gloves and get as rough as necessary."

[15] Space Racer lead the flying formation into the Vacuum Tower. They flew by CX. Space Racer banked hard left and the others continued on the right side. Space Racer smashed into Snowman further ruining Snowman’s ice armor but Snowman was unhurt.

[15] Condor flew to the other side of the deck. He threw a punch at the SEVEN of Swords. He missed.

[15] Raven followed Condor. He peeled off to attack the FIVE of Sword. His punch hit but didn’t get passed the Tarot Master Trooper’s armor.

{GM Note: Tarot Master Trooper armor is not traditional V&V armor. It is a much weaker variant.}

[15] Starbolt and Red Hawk entered to the right after the others had engaged the closest targets. They proceeded in an arc formation so as not to allow anyone to attack from behind. Starbolt said "Friendlies at your six, Do Not Fire." Starbolt fired on the King of Swords hitting his armor. He damaged the armor but the King of Swords was unhurt.

{GM Note: King of Sword’s armor is traditional V&V armor.}

[15] Red Hawk fired a Vibe Blast at the SEVEN of Swords. His blast penetrated the Tarot Master armor knocking the trooper out.

[14] A zombie missed with its attack on NINE of Swords.

[14] A zombie missed with its attack on Knight of Swords.

[13] Hierophant ran across the room. He attacked War Wagon with his sword. His swing missed.

DarkStar charged into the ground floor of the Vacuum Tower.

Holy mis-communication That definitely was not part of the plan. Obviously the fog or war has had an even greater effect than expected
I cannot ever remember giving instructions for the breaching teams to actually enter the tower. The whole idea was to save our Actions this Turn and use our Area of Effect attacks in the next to thin out the bad guys on the first level of the tower so as not to get overwhelmed by any potential ambush when we really did enter. I even had Archer point out all his options so it would all be in RP next turn. I'm sure you've seen the idea in practice on tv at least. It's a standard urban combat technique. Team isolates the building, one member tosses in a flash bang or concussive grenade depending on the situation, with the team entering through (usually) a door. They split left right and cover the room with firearms. From there an number of things can happen but if clear then other squad members (in this case CX's team) enter the building and rinse wash and repeat throughout the building.
I'm really disappointed in myself that I did not make this clearer when giving the storyline written RP for DS character last turn. I hope I can salvage something of how it has went down and refocus the squad so that it fights as a team from this point. It would greatly help if you could please give me any greater detail of the first floor of the tower that DarkStar would have noticed. Specifically the first priority is the stairs and knowing what all the geometric shapes represent would help also. The markings that look like Stonehenge also worry me, what are they? This is all information I was hoping to get from our "inside" people but obviously not everyone thinks along the same lines as I do under these circumstances
(Please take note of all the smiley faces. It's a spilled milk situation Let's see what we can do to clean it  up together )
btw: I remember Bulwark and last thing DS is going to do is get caught up in a fight unless it furthers the goal of the Endgame which is bringing down the tower. Depending on the information you provide me I will try to come up with a new plan for continuing the assault on the tower. This time being more explicit on my plans not only for the current turn but the one after that. All of course subject to the whims of the fog of war

Now to more of the fun stuff
First things first - WOOT WOOT shout out to having my old buddy Adamas and Cure getting back in the game. With our true Heavy Hitter and the Nurse with a Radioactive Burst, the tide is ready to roll - I hope Let's kick some butt guys. I think someone might have to do for Magus what AA did for Adamas about a year or so ago - and it's not my fault this time (LOL)
Absolutely loved the single color shots of the villains this issue. I know most all those guys originals are black and whites and am curious how you got them colored - sooooo beyond my feeble computer abilities.
I'm confused as to whether the Zombies went out of control due to CX exploding the tank against the tower force field, or more likely Harvey absconding with the widget that floated out of the tower and out to Adamas and Elwood?  It was definitely fortuitous for the forces of good but now presents a whole other dilemma. Do the heroes focus on the mission of getting inside and taking out the tower like General Samuel instructed or do they fight zombies? Also will be fun to see the various methods used if they do. Which heroes will start using head shots to take them out (which appear to be a popular method with Tom's NPCs lol) or go a more humane way in hopes of saving them and finding a cure?
Should be interesting
Great Fun Tom thank you
John

I absolutely love the "hopping" effect you put in there.  Absolutely awesome!

Don't get Fog of Reader!! Which is an even worse effect than Fog of War. I always read it from a superhero mindset not a military mindset.
Also I am having trouble describing the aftermath of the tank exploding. There is no cover for anyone anywhere in the gray area. There isn't even a blade of grass. So there was nothing to hide around. I guess you could have pressed against the force field itself but that only prevents those from inside from shooting you, not seeing you.
Another key point to remember is that while you would have an action left their team would have no movement left to go with that action unless you waited until their normal phase. So you team is outside with the Tarot Masters on one side knowing you have teleported in and 30 zombies on the your back. While the zombies can't enter the Vacuum Tower the Zombies can attack anyone standing next to it.
That is why I moved all the non-flyers into the Vacuum Tower to minimize the threat level. This would have left me with difficulty with the Priestess situation. She would had to attack DarkStar instead of CX since she knew him. That would have meant Archer (his high Agility would have made him one of the first to react). Then Fortress, Epsilon, War Wagon until either she was down or all their actions were used. So DarkStar's team had the potential of being trapped between the Tarot Masters, The Swords Arcanna, and 30 zombies without any held actions PCs with Range attack and no movement until their action. If the team decided to coordinate their attack together then it would be until the last phase of the team.
I felt like that was a dangerous situation DarkStar would not put his team in. Also this Vacuum Tower has a Tardis Effect going on inside. I have created a map showing right after the WHOUMP (and all the later moves like the Priestess and Red Hawk) so show the situation inside the Tower and outside.
The inside Tower is 16" X 16" so my scale was off on the Tower I been showing. Whether we want to call is a bridging with the Tower half in the Domain and half in the Earth dimension is whether you think that is cool or not.
The key item is Archer does not have enough Flare and Sonic arrows to Flash Bang the entire floor. So you would lose the surprise for a tactic that can't be done.

 Thanks
 Tom

<Archer: IC response and actions> With a simple nod of acknowledgment Daniel calculates for a maximum spread and uses his two remaining Flare Arrowheads to effect as many of the super-villains on the north wall as possible. "Heroes ... close your eyes."
thwip thwip ... 'flashbang flashbang'
The Archer dodges and weaves back toward the entrance, using any obstructions possible for cover Daniel takes one side, leaving the other side for War Wagon. Using his heightened sense of awareness (willpower stunt), the Archer combat senses keeps track of not only his foes but the most dangerous man in the room at the moment. He sees the 'hero' from the bridge on the day of the Star-Devourer teleport behind a large futuristic looking object. He is unsure if the villains can see the man or at all if his flare arrows work, but the second it looks like the blue man is going to make a move he plans on diving out the entrance. I'll give you what help I can big man, but I'm not even bulletproof. If you're bringing this tower down it helps no one for me to be here when it happens.
OOC: Tom, I don't have time for Redhawk, I'm sorry. I would suggest he would hook up with any flying heroes who look like they need assistance at this point. I would suggest CX and Starbolt at the tower entrance. Poor kid can't hot the broad side of a barn, maybe he'll have better luck with zombies (lol)
Thanks again partner

Edit: the following was suppose to be in italics as a thought balloon
I'll give you what help I can big man, but I'm not even bulletproof. If you're bringing this tower down it helps no one for me to be here when it happens.
Thanks T
PS: If you think I plan on DarkStar dying then your half right. lol. If he has to (and is successful) explode the generator(s) this turn he will and that will suck but I'm okay with that - I've always said the pinnacle of his story was the New Super Society and I've always meant it. With DeBrandt you have the super-tech guy you need for future stories so his loss there not as big a deal as it might have been to the campaign. Plus who knows what we will find in Rose's Last Will and Testament and Team Hephaestus research lab. Or maybe something weird happens in the explosion. Being dead is rarely the end of the story for a good hero - lol.
If on the other hand his plan actually works (like that ever happens LOL) then the idea is to wait til next turn and with Luck he is able to get the generators to explode and teleport out at the last second - and if wishes were itches he'd need a tub of cortizone.
Have fun with the story I am
John

Starbolt radio links up with DarkStar. "DarkStar, this is Starbolt. I am headed to your position as soon as possible." Heading to link up with the rest of the inside Forces, The Stellar-Powered Sentinel will take-down anyone that gets in his way. "No sense letting them attack from the rear If I can help it." he thinks to himself.
OOC: Starbolt will either blast or create a blade to decapitate the slow-walkers.

Hey Pal
Don't get Fog of Reader!! Which is an even worse effect than Fog of War. I always read it from a superhero mindset not a military mindset.
LOL, so true but nothing that friends can't end up having fun with. As a little tiff last week with Dave can attest to.
Also I am having trouble describing the aftermath of the tank exploding. There is no cover for anyone anywhere in the gray area. There isn't even a blade of grass. So there was nothing to hide around. I guess you could have pressed against the forcefield itself but that only prevents those from inside from shooting you, not seeing you.
That's actually pretty much how I envisioned it actually so you can't be doing to bad buddy. I just also saw the grey area as having such limited line of sight that one would be lucky to see the hand in front of their face - thus providing its own kind of cover.
Another key point to remember is that while you would have an action left their team would have no movement left to go with that action unless you waited until their normal phase. So you team is outside with the Tarot Masters on one side knowing you have teleported in and 30 zombies on the your back. Waiting would have been good if the environment was foggy as I pictured, given you've allowed a line of sight in the grey area that is totally logical.
That is why I moved all the non-flyers into the Vacuum Tower to minimize the threat level. This would have left me with difficulty with the Priestess situation. She would had attack DarkStar instead of CX since she knew him.
Remembering that I'm okay with Rolling with the Fog Here is the one thing I would have changed. At that point DarkStar would still have ordered anyone with an Area Effect attack to blast the inside of the tower and then head inside. Leaving the Zombies to Starbolt and the other heroes to "cover his six". I think it's still a matter of not having a common vision of the situation and that's cool I'm having quasi-similar problem sometimes with AoA. (I need a map generator I think) Like I said originally its all spilled milk and I am honestly looking forward to adjusting to the tactical challenges on the fly
Your right about not staying outside just difference on entry technique Tardis Effect huh?  Cool, I kind of suspected as much but didn't want to assume. Which would have lessened the AoE idea but there you go with the FoW thing again LOL. Your maps have been fantastic- my only tweak would be wanting to be able to identify the character icons a little easier - but what a quibble huh
Yep definitely would have made a difference in the effect Archer and War Wagons weapons would have had and choice of targets I thing only thing I'd change would have been targets, but it's good. I only ask that when you make these decisions for the Character in future please keep in mind that normally (the Bull Incident aside ) the Player is a mission objective oriented type of guy.
I will answer your other questions in a later email.

No sweat or rush brother. I appreciate have enjoyed every bit of the Crossover. It's turning into the Mega-Event I  had hoped for and anticipated.
Thanks Again

OOC:  Please use the appropriate below option..  :)
IC:  Feeling his energy being drained away, CX faces the Aracana's Priestess.  The cloud of steel swirling about him shoots forth toward her and begins to circle in orbits  around her.  Tighter and tighter their path becomes until they have joined into a cable of solid steel.. The cable cinches down in an attempt to grab the foul invader.
Option A - The woman is properly entangled in the solid steel trap. - Seeing his foe wrapped up tightly, he looks over the sea of zombie slaves spreading out and attacking at random.  He thinks to himself, "We'll have to clean that up later.  If we don't stop the tower, they won't be a problem anyway."  He then flies into the tower to maintain his High Guard position above Dark Star's force.
Over the newly created Comm Channel - "Gold One to Big Blue, back in position.  Anyone need a hand in here?"  Looks around to find an ally in need or  an opponent in need of a thrashing.
Option B - The Priestess evades the steel trap. - Knowing that he cannot afford to have the Priestess at his back, CX flies around her, keeping her in his sight.  He places himself between her and the entrance to the Tower.  He maintains control over the spinning coil that he had intended to trap her within.  He maintain's his defenses and prepares for her next attack.
Over the newly created Comm Channel - "Gold One to Big Blue.  I've got a Major Arcana just outside the entrance door.  Will rejoin the group as soon as she's not a loose cannon aimed at our backsides.  After we kick their butts in there, we've got a whole army of zombies shambling around out here!"

Agreed, loved the colored shots, reminds me a little of what we were doing in Dom's game using the Avatar's... now if there were just some way to animate the battles... jk

This is awesome, and I'm not just saying that because Adamas - #1 woke up, and #2 took out the Ice Giant (lucky shot). :)

Game on!

IC:
"My goodness buddy, but you had me worried for a moment there!  I cannot wait to hear all about your adventure inside that tower.  Why don't we wrap this current assignment up and and bring our new friends to Charlie's where we enjoy your tale over martinis?"  Elwood appeared to be speaking to the large metal object beside him and as he did he let out deep exhale which expelled so much stress he must have held inside with great effort.
Ooc:
My boys will save any actions, preparing for defensive maneuvers.
Mike
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Hearing Elwoods request, Adamas will hold back close to the floating metal device, and take a defensive position.

OOC: Adamas will hold his action, attacking anyone that appears to be moving to recover the stolen artifact.  He will use his auto fire power blast, and attempt to stay at range.  He will only close on anyone coming close to Elwood.

I'm confused as to whether the Zombies went out of control due to CX exploding the tank against the tower force field, or more likely Harvey absconding with the widget that floated out of the tower and out to Adamas and Elwood? - John
The Zombies going out of control occurred before Harvey absconded with the widget. What cause their being freed from what controlled them occurred with the tank exploding.

The question has been asked about what each on the equipment on the floor are and how to disable the Tower.
The characters entering the Vacuum Tower see alien (other dimension) equipment and don't immediately know their functions. Only a character that has been in the room for more than 1 turn can make intelligence (skill) roll to determine what the equipment is for.
No one knows what it takes to Matter Vacuum completely disable it permanently. No one knows for sure what floor it is on and if it isn't on all floors. One Character has spend enough time scouting the Matter Vacuum to attempt to disable it, but with the Tarot Masters still present and active nothing stops them from getting that piece back.

[OOC: I think I'm finally getting it again here!]
If she feels that there is enough noise, she'll risk quietly talking on her intercom.
"Black Orchid here. There's a great deal of odd equipment in here. I'm going to try to figure it out. Also, a bunch of the bad guys are pinned against the wall by the zombies. More later."
[OOC: that might be about 15 sec worth of conversation]
Is the equipment on the ground floor working, or is it just complete? I assume it's still pitch black above, so The Black Orchid can't get there yet. If she can now she'll sneak upstairs.
"Hmm, what of these are already working and how can I disable or reverse their effects?"
Are we still using skills?
The Black orchid has 42% in Technology (Teacher), 42% in Research (Teacher) and 36% in Engineering (Specialist) to try to figure out the devices.
First she tries to disable the Power Generators in a fairly permanent manner, using an Inventing Point if she can to include some sort of lockout.
Marc
-------------------------------------------------------------
Here is what Black Orchid knows about the Ground Floor.
A - Computer Modulator - The Central Brain of the other computers on the tower. It is working.
B - Transpatial Reciever - It is protected by an invisible field. It coordinates the transition of matter between dimensions. It is working
C- Transpatial Viewer - It views across the dimension. - It is NOT working.
D - Logistic Computer. It is processing computer which supports the Matter Vacuum. It is working.
E - Logistic Computer. It is processing computer which supports the Matter Vacuum. It is working.
F - Power Generator - Generates power for the entire tower. It is working.
G - Power Generator - Generates power for the entire tower. It is working.
Center Item - Scrye Viewing center. It provides a image of all the activity outside the tower around Stonehenge. It is working.
Next to D (triangle shape) - Stairs leading to Deck Two.
Deck Two is in a nighttime darkness. So Black Orchid can see because of her darkness control when she walks into it. She can't see well from a distance. She can tell there is a Power Generator in the room and 3 other devices she doesn't know what is yet. (She will have to spend 1 turn in there to figure it out).
Yes we are still using skills and the skill you listed will be used for what you want to try to do. A luck point will be required to develop a permanent lock. She can attempt to disable 1 generator per turn.

Hey Tom
The tech-lord of the Quest has a question  . . . do any of the multi-hex big objects in the room look big and sturdy enough for DarkStar to crack some heads by "brick toss"ing into multiple opponents? I'm betting on his Engineering skills to have a rough idea :)

Quickly DarkStar sizes up the structures in the room. He doesn't know what their functions are yet but he can see if they are liftable.
A. It is secured to the ground. He would have to disable it to lift it. It would be a 400lb brawling weapon
B. No it is flimsy a frame, can't be used a brawling weapon.
C. It is secured to the ground. He would have to disable it to lift it. It would be a 200lb brawling weapon
D. It is secured to the ground. He would have to disable it to lift it. It would be a 400lb brawling weapon
E It is secured to the ground. He would have to disable it to lift it. It would be a 400lb brawling weapon
F. It is NOT secured to the ground. It would be a 3000lb brawling weapon but it looks like it has the potential to explode like the Fusion Engine did if disabled.
G. It is NOT secured to the ground. It would be a 3000lb brawling weapon but it looks like it has the potential to explode like the Fusion Engine did if disabled.
Scrye Display - No.

The Black Orchid will continue with her plans to disable one of the generators, using whatever luck/inventing points are needed. Looks like DarkStar is going to disable one in a slightly less delicate fashion!

I agree with Marc.  I, too, get lost a bit.  As a suggestion, perhaps you could concentrate the actions to areas first.  Like going through all of the actions inside the tower an then move to outside the tower.  Because it isn't a panel based graphic story, following the action to where ever the next PC/NPC turn is can be hard to follow (At least for me)  You could not the action Number in brackets so all of us could see where, in the turn, that particular action is taking place.

EXAMPLE:
Inside Tower
[27]Der Fladermaus shoots a swing line to escape the combat all together...
[22]Aurther screams, "NOT IN THE FACE!!!  NOT IN THE FACE!!!"
Meanwhile....  Just outside the Tower
[26]Tick takes a shot by Breadmaster.  The damage doesn't penetrate his defenses.  Chest held out and fists on his hips, he retorts, "Your culinary crime wave has crashed against the shores of Justice, Breadmaster!"

I hope this helps!  :D
Dave
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Hearing 'Darkstar's commands, CX will take a position above the door and continue to fire as before.  If Priestess is not down, she will continue to be a target.  If she's down, he will provide cover fire for those trying to exit the tower.
Dave
------------------------------------------------------------------
So never to be out done by a rival or competitor, the StarCorp owner and CEO will up the DeBrandt Corporation hero's singular nuclear explosion, and possibly go for two. Joshua hopes to give any heroes in the tower this turn and most of next to evacuate the tower. Hopefully Archer and War Wagon’s explosive/area of effect weapons can be multi-fired in a spread pattern to keep the villains back long enough for Epsilon, Fortress, and Magnetor (and Black Orchid & Wraith) to evacuate, but without hesitation he will use it as a shield versus ranged attacks and a brawling weapon against melee opponents, sweeping it in an arc to start cracking heads.
John

The Black Orchid is conspicuously quiet.

Okay now, that simple communication (or lack thereof in this case) Would make DS at least hesitate and give second thought to "tower goes boom boom" plan.

Thanks for the message Marc (seriously ) I'll have to take that into account as we tweak DS response

Hey Tom, Guys
OOC: Holy Hannah Mega-players, two and a half years playing DarkStar, and I totally whiff the first time one of his ‘weaknesses’ comes into play. Tom pointed it out to the Player (me) who obviously has nothing close to a 33 Int, and given me a mulligan, a redo, a thank you for GM mercy do over. So here we go. I’ll try to stay close to the previous post, but losing even the remote chance of teleporting out of the building means some serious changes. DS is more than willing to die in the line of duty – but definitively not looking to rush head first into it. WIP will post tonight
Regards
John
------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for your working with me on the big FUBAR Tom. If I've forgotten or flubbed any of the other rules (Archer in particular) please let me know.
<DarkStar IC: Response and Actions>
Bulwark dodges and DarkStar’s fist slams into the wall behind, the impact reverberating throughout the tower. What am I doing? This is Bull and the Destroyers all over again. There is too much at stake to get caught up in personal grudge matches. As the battle rages, it starts to take its toll on the structure of the tower. Rivets pop, welds break at the seams, and a steel beam narrowly misses DarkStar as his hyper-intellect observes it all. Zombies or no, I shouldn’t have rushed the team in here. We are outnumbered and still have two levels of the tower to clear according to the General.
One of War Wagon’s shots destroys a bracket holding a joist. As the beam swings down barely missing DarkStar, the titan of transport reflexively catches the steel support structure and swings it like a massive club in a mid-waist arc at his enemies. Quickly a secondary plan forms and without hesitation DarkStar adjust. Have to let those preparing to enter the tower updated on what we have going on in here. Sub-vocalizing his jaw mic, Joshua instructs Cybil to activate and override all StarCorp communication devices. “Team Blue, Junior, Do your damage, but I need you at the stairwell immediately. You have point when we head to the second level. Fire support elements fallback to the southwest. Archer red nocks on the north wall, War Wagon missiles to the east on my mark. ”
*whoump*
Combat teleporting back to the stairwell with Armorman, DarkStar surveys what is left of the forces arrayed against them. "CX heads up. Team Gold might have boogies exiting the tower. Could use you and Starbolt and time you're free." Focusing on communicating to the team with his amulet, "Harvey, how are you and Elwood doing? Magus protect that Rabbit. I don't know what he did, but I don't think Cr’tegorf is going to take it laying down. (at this point I don't think DS has IC knowledge of Adamas or Magus's condition, but it's obvious the Pooka did good by absconding with whatever he slipped out of the tower.)
<DarkStar: Goals> His primary objective at the moment is clearing the first floor asap, without the use of a nuclear device (lol). I want to make use of Archer and War Wagon’s area of effect attack before things become so crowded they also become too big a danger to the tower. I would have made similar suggestions for Magnetor and Fortress but I’m not as familiar with their abilities as DarkStar would be so hoping they follow the idea of using area of effect attacks if available and hitting the villains from range if not. With any luck we can do enough damage and survivors start running for the tower exit. If so we let them go and will start concentrating on plans for the second floor. DarkStar’s personal attacks this turn are to utilize all his potential attacks (two?) and club the crap out of Bulwark with the steel I-beam that barely missed him last Turn.
Additional edit: Archer.
I’m not sure of the scale of the room but I’m betting the heroes couldn’t escape the radius of his Sonic Arrowheads even if they retreated all the way to the south floor. With that in mind I would like Archer to substitute his 2 Flare Arrowheads for 4 Explosive ones.
I’m hope for maximum effect by targeting the north wall hexes Justice Avenger and the Mortal are in. It’s been a long time since I used Archer using the House Rules so please let me know if I’m doing this wrong. The idea is to multi-strike the north wall in two locations using the Dual Attack rule with all four (2 x2) of his Explosive Arrowheads.
If that is illegal then go for a special attack (to the head of Anima-Man) using two of the Explosive Arrowheads. That seems the most central bad guy on the north wall so is the best second option – Archer’s response will be the same as in his original post. Except instead of “Shut your eyes heroes” it will be “Heads down heroes.”
Thanks for the mulligan Tom.
John

OOC:  It seems that I really don't need an edit.  CX will still cover the exit.  Giving any friendlies a helping magnetic hand...  ;)
Dave
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, Do you want Starbolt to come inside or keep the way clear outside?
Jamey
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Jamey

Well. I'd say that depends on Starbolts personality and what role you'd like to see him play. He could enter the tower this turn and use the open comms DS had going to reinforce the fire support component of Team Blue or hook up with CX and Team Gold to add weight to the secondary assault squad and enter next turn. Hopefully for a massed push to the second floor.

My record predicting what Tom will throw at us from turn to turn has been ..  uhm. .. less than spectacular recently LOL.

A thought. I haven't given (and haven't planned) an action for Red Hawk this Turn. He apparently can't hit the broad side of a barn (lol - memories of Archers beginnings - lol) but he's a tough customer and those Vibratory Powers could be useful in the tower. I also played him as sort of in awe of the New Crusaders most active member (Starbolt) back at the CHESS Hq. You could grab recruit him and join CX Team Gold and be a frightening trio of flying energy projectors.

Just watch out for Supernova - that guy has been dropping heroes left and right.  (My exaggeration I can tell it any way I like - lol)

Later Bro.
John
------------------------------------------------------------------
Tom,
I would like to adjust Starbolt's action if that is o.k. I would like him to recruit Red Hawk, and join the Gold Team for the second wave of the assault inside the Tower.
Jamey
------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes. That is okay. Please give me details on what you are doing I really don't understand the whole waves plan. I messed up what John wanted last turn. Please tell me exactly what Starbolt and Red Hawk are doing and where they are.
Thanks
Tom
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Starbolt and Red Hawk are outside the Tower where the Zombies are. I believe that DarkStar wants Team Gold to enter the Tower and assist with taking down the villains inside. He seems to be worried about the numerical advantage the bad guys have.
IC: Hearing DarkStar's transmission The Stellar-Powered Sentinel flies to Red Hawk "I could use your help. Let's join CX and Gold Team and see if we can give these guys more than they can handle."
Assuming Red Hawk says yes, Starbolt will link up with CX to begin the next wave. "Hope this works," Starbolt thinks to himself. "We, and more importantly Earth cannot afford for this to be anything other than a success. Guess it is time to take off the gloves and get as rough as necessary."
Jamey
------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks,  to make sure I understand.
1) Starbolt and Red Hawk outside the Tower presently and stay outside this turn.
2) Starbolt and Red Hawk do not fire into Tower but save actions (attacking when only attacked).
3) Starbolt and Red Hawk will assist next turn regardless of how good or bad it is going inside the Tower.
While DarkStar seems to be worried about the numerical advantage the bad guys, but Team Gold will not assist this turn.
If I am wrong. Please tell where Team Gold will move to within the Room and who they will attack. It can be as generic a Flying Villains first, the Supervillains on the north wall, then troopers on the east.
Thanks
Tom
------------------------------------------------------------------
Team Gold will enter this turn, Starbolt and Red Hawk will enter right after. Team Gold will engage closest Targets first, then proceed in a arc formation so as not to allow anyone to attack from behind. When entering the Tower Starbolt will tell them "Friendlies at your six, Do Not Fire." Having saved their turns, Any fliers become first Targets.
If this is or is not acceptable Please let me know.
Thanks'
Jamey
P.S. I appreciate your hard work Tom. Thanks for this game.

OOC:

Phantom has nothing to say and doesn't interact with anyone.

If Starbolt leaves the platform outside:

 - Phantom loads a grenade into his grenade launcher and fires it at the center of the group of zombies nearest to him.

If Starbolt tries to take the platform inside:

 - Phantom jumps off the platform ( assuming that it’s not too high - not sure of the height** ), tucks and rolls ( in the opposite direction of the zombie horde - not trying to get over run by them ), and tries to end up in a firing position.

 - Phantom then loads a grenade into his grenade launcher and fires it at the center of the group of zombies nearest to him.

** I'm guessing that the platform isn't too high up; given Phantom's Agility score and Body Armour, I'm assuming he won't take too much damage (if any) from jumping off of it.
