Crossover: Advance on the Tower! - Issue 3

Location: Megalopolis CHESS HQ

CHESS Rooks and Doves took down the basic capabilities of the Heroes to make sure the DSA files were up to date. The information was entered into IPADs which sent the data to the CHESS computers that had been set up in the side conference room.

Seeing the CHESS Rooks and Doves put The Black Orchid at ease. She worked with a few while honing her powers.

DarkStar meet with Director Vlasov while General Samuel was meeting with the Super Teams leaders. DarkStar asked “What about Super Villains? Why aren’t any of them here? We could use them as a team to attack the Domain. I was recently there. I saw three pylons. They have to be connected in some way to the Matter Vacuum Converters.”

Director Vlasov sadly looked downward. “Basically the threat while real isn't immediate enough. They believe they can defeat Cr'tgerof's forces after the Domain had been weakened by our Heroes. Since they believe they can still win on Earth we can’t convince them to go to the Domain. To get their help they need to believe that it is certain death to stay on Earth so going to the Domain where there is only the possibility of death would make sense.”

Director Vlasov provided the communiqués that MEDUSA had done with the most powerful Super Villains. Here were their responses:

·         Leo the Lion believed it was an attempt to use the Domain to eliminate the true world threat: Himself.

·         Motivator questioned the CHESS scientists finding. She believed the process could be reversed once Cr'tgerof was freed.

·         Jade Emperor, Son of the Seventh Level of the Celestial Heaven, would not grant MEDUSA an audience. His message was "It would be best that the Heroes do not lose."

·         Omin-Primus did not respond. It was believed the Emissaries have left Earth.

“Isn't there captured villains who would sign up to go to the Domain?” Joshua asked.

Vlasov replied the most powerful villains Fear Island Super-Penitentiary held were the Infidels. Unfortunately they welcomed the destruction that Cr'tgerof brings. He suspected that several would worship him as a god.

"Worship Cr'tgerof as a god?” Black Orchid asked, “Maybe we should usher them on their way. Are any of the infidels weak enough that we could allow one to 'escape' and monitor his actions to see what this so-called god might be up to?"

Vlasov said, “No, it is too risky adding more strength to his forces. After we defeat the Tarot Masters and the Demons we might consider it if we have trouble finding Cr’tgerof.

"Vacuum Matter Converter?" She looks at her hands. "I generate a vacuum when I draw energy from people. Is there a way we can use my ability to either nullify or overload the Converter?"

“Not sure. Unfortunately there isn’t time for the CHESS scientist to work with you to find out.”

All the heroes were led to the staging area. They watched as the tanks were drove into place to be loaded into the cargo planes. The heroes were introduced to the two heroes who would be driving them.

First there was an Agent from MEDUSA. His name was War Wagon. He signaled all clear from the driver’s seat and then the door opened. Instead of steps or a ladder to climb in by it was a hydraulic lift. It lowered War Wagon down onto the ground.

Director Vlasov beamed with pride. “You are looking at the latest in MEDUSA and DeBrandt Corporation technological advancement. DeBrandt Corporation is the world's leader in military hardware. With them, The Super Forces developed the M-5Q, the meta-generation’s tank but at MEDUSA it is about empowering the individual agent.”

DarkStar did not hear the last of the words spoken by the Director because Cybil informed him who War Wagon was. It was his friend Kevin Vanderiaan!!!

Softy shaking his head, Joshua walked up to his old friend. “War Wagon, huh?” Casting his professional eye at the militarized prosthesis, “Back in the game, I see.” Cocking his head looking at the sleek lines and armaments, “Well built and ugly as sin, sort of like that girl in Fort Lauderdale if I remember right.” Transmitting on StarCorp’s bravo circuit. “Kev, you should have contacted me if this was something you really wanted. Seriously buddy, the DeBrandt Corp.? The thing looks like it was built by an evil genius. You and I are going to talk about an exo-suit after we kick this guy’s butt.”

Kevin replied, “You’ll have to talk with the Director. This is MEDUSA approved and paid for.”

Switching back to vocals and slapping the War Wagon on the shoulder, “Can’t say this is anything like old times, but I’m darn happy to see you in action again pal.”

The second driver exited the other tank. General Samuel called Black Orchid and DarkStar over to meet the driver. General Samuel explained that CHESS and GIANT wanted them to work with the driver and DeBrandt Corporation.

“I am Centurion X.  Though new to the hero community, I have been asked to assist with the issue of the impending Domain invasion.  Although the gathering heroes may well, indeed, be able to turn back the tide, the fact remains that they have already been stopped once.  They are determined.  A more permanent solution needs to be crafted.  I have included all telemetry on the previous portal.  I believe that I can establish that solution in approximately three months.  With your technical expertise and assistance, I believe we may be able to cut that time by 66%, or one month.  I have resources at my disposal that will aid us in this effort.

“Though capable of completing this without aid, having the world's heroes bashing their heads time and time again for a period of three months is asking too much.  Only by cooperation may we stem off this threat in a reasonable amount of time.

“My intentions are to build a series of 32 satellites in orbit around the earth.  These satellites would be capable of responding to an inter-dimensional threat anywhere on the face of the Earth.  The gravimetric impulse cannon mounted on each would require 3 of 4 security codes to activate and only one to deactivate.  To save time, we would need to have supers capable of escape velocity and lifting strength carry these into orbit.  Positional thrusters could then be used to guide them into their proper orbits.

Listening intently to the “hero new to the community”, Joshua quickly realizes two things form his speech. The man is obviously of high intellect, and from the sounds of his plan might have resources comparable to StarCorp. “Centurion X is it?” Joshua took a short pause to let the golden understand he had given his plan true consideration. “I applaud your audacity, but there are a number of holes in the plan. Foremost of which is the widespread fear and panic that would ensue once the people of the planet’s other 193 nations on the planet realize you just encompassed the night sky with 32 potential weapons of mass destruction.” Mentally shaking his head at the mindset that could come up with such a plan. “Golden Eye, Diamonds are Forever … anything ringing a bell there cowboy? Besides, Cr’tegorf would just eventually have them sabotaged with his human cultist. Let’s tear down this Tower, then maybe we can finally take the fight to the Enemy, to the Domain itself.”

Thinking about the 32 satellites, The Black Orchid does some quick mental calculations concerning orbit, coverage, ease of placement and time to build and test such satellites before placement to determine if such an idea has legs, and who has the resources to pull it off in such a short time. She'll chime in with whatever she comes up with.

Black Orchid asked, "Also, has anyone thought of setting up a fake Tarot organization to draw followers away from the Major Arcana?"

General Samuel looked at the three of them. “Those are great ideas. After we win this battle we will have to get started on them.”

After listening to Black Orchid, Joshua was hearing a plan that should have been in place years ago if the “powers that be” has half a brain among them all. “I like where you’re headed there. Too bad you weren’t in the business ten years ago. Might have avoided this whole mess.”

On the large screens in the staging area, the heroes’ assignments were shown again.

Watching the team assignments flashing on the big screen DarkStar begins to remember what he hated about working for the government. Bureaucrats and Committees. What military genius layed out these assignments? Elwood as a tank crew and I get to babysit two canucks and a psycho? He might have a few years on him but at least the Enforcer is a solid addition. DarkStar literally is stunned. Blinking once, then a second time in disbelief. Focusing his thoughts to Manus through the amulet. “Magus, who made this assignment? Four guys and none of them fly or teleport? Anybody give a thought how to extract these guys if I go down in the fight, or am I part of the Task Force’s Suicide Squad? Taking a deep breath, he hoped Magus might see the need to shuffle a couple assignments, but with leadership by Committee Joshua wasn’t going to bet on it.

As the leaders filed out of the room, and Magus began to explain the plan, Adamas nodded thoughtfully... He could see the wisdom in the approach, and felt justified in allowing Magus to take the lead.  It was obvious he was in his element, and Adamas felt a dread that the same danger that had destroyed his home world was now encroaching upon his adopted home.

After the briefing, he sought out Jessica.  He did not enter the briefing room for the media, but instead asked one of the agents if he might speak with her.  He did not want to draw attention to her, especially not in a room full of reporters.  He knew that could be putting her in danger if news of their relationship got out to the general public.

As she was escorted to the side room where he waited, he could hear her drilling the agent who led her, "What do you mean my presence has been requested? Where are you taking me?  Why all the secrecy?"  As she saw him the questions stopped.  She took a breath and regained her composure.  Adamas brought her up to speed, leaving out specifics.  He expressed his concern for her safety, and promised to return.  "You have to come back," she said, "I still owe you a lesson in journalism."  Adamas smiled and took her in his arms.  "I will."  He turned and left with that.

As they were getting with their squads, General Samuel provided a few last instructions. “I know a lot of you can get there faster than by military aircraft. This isn’t about getting there fast but coordinated. All of you will be issued StarCorp communication units. I am counting of our military, CHESS, and GIANT frequencies being jammed. Hopefully this will give us the advantage. While you are in flight, Psimon will be settling up mental blocks to keep their Telepaths from creating mental switchboards. MEDUSA will have their surveillance operatives Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) in just the local area around The Tower. FISH will be working with Doctor Arcane to prevent magical communications by the Tarot Masters.”

“We need the time you are in flight to do this. Getting there faster will prevent us from creating a ‘fog of war’ within the enemy camp”

“Okay, get ready, when a squad is properly briefed you can board. We will take off when you are ready. God speed” Having dismissed them, General Samuel left the staging area returning to the Command Center in the main part of CHESS HQ.

As DarkStar and Black Orchid walked to their team, "Ground assault sounds good." The Black Orchid nodded. "I'd be glad to help with any plans to help us punch through." She seemed genuinely eager to help.

Seeker called his squad together. “Our mission is to control The Chariot. We are to drive it down into Tarot Master’s ground forces.

“Hello, my name is DarkStar. It’s a shame to meet you all under these circumstances.

Seeker agreed. He asked the team, “Does anyone have any sailing experience?”

Enforcer shook his head in the negative.

“Chat Noir nor I have any experience either.” Seeker said.

“I can’t see how 5 of us are going to be able to sail it anywhere. Historically a ship of that size had a larger crew than 15 sailors. So they are operating on a skeleton crew as it is. The FISH experts don’t even know how to lower it. They suspect punching a hole in it won’t cause it to sink. The magical enchantment that is causing it to float is unknown to them and Dr. Arcane. So the control crash option is out of the question. Our object will be to simply control it.

“We will do that by disabling its ability to move.”

“Okay here are your assignments. DarkStar will teleport us to The Chariot. Get up as close to the Bow as possible. Red Fury usually commands from the Bow. I will engage her. Phantom will take 1 side and Enforcer the other. I don’t care which gets Starboard and which gets Port. Just take down your side fast and hard! Chat Noir spread your bad luck as you take out whoever is at the Stern. DarkStar, since it needs its sails to move. Your job is to disable them.”

Looking to the Special Op team’s “leader”, DarkStar stepped up, noticed by all because of his sheer girth and skin tone. If you don’t mind, Seeker, I have a couple questions and ideas. I’d be interested to know where you got your intel on what Red Fury usually does or doesn’t do. I thought she just arrived from the past? Our team just returned from a mission in the Domain and we lost several ‘earth’ weeks in the few hours we were there.”

Seeker replied, “We have been surveying them while you were in the Domain. Eagle Eye and the FISH Scryers are the providers of the intel. Whenever The Chariot performs patrol on the perimeter Red Fury commands from the Bow.

DarkStar said, “More important though is getting this team all on the same page with each other. Would you let us know what abilities you and Chat Noir have? I apologize my meta-data on Canadian heroes is incomplete, and I’ve only heard rumors of the Phantom over there.”

Phantom turned his head slowly and then looked at Rose with a sense of disbelief and contempt in his eyes and said, "Do I strike you as the type of guy that likes to share his feelings with other men?"

Chat Noir gave a cat-like hiss.

Enforcer said, “I have a gun which fires custom bullets and a Force Field” as he chambered a round.

Seeker said “Fair enough question, DarkStar. While I was briefed on your abilities, you should know what each brings to the mission. Here is the basic rundown on everyone’s’ abilities I received from DSA and CHESS.”

Seeker gave a fierce look to the rest of the team. “I know the best Black Operatives don’t play well with others or share but the mission could depend on it. So there will be no objections to my sharing this and you will correct any inaccuracies. Understand?”

“First I will start with myself; I am a solid fighter and tracker. Command experience on a veteran team. I use the crossbow, axe, and noose for ranged and close quarter combat.

“Chat Noir has catlike abilities with serious claws. He attacks are so ferocious they cause his opponents to experience bad luck”

“DarkStar is a teleporter. He has almost god-like strength, Nobel Prize worthy intelligence, and is tough as Adamantium.

DarkStar replied, "God-like strength, Hardly. According to my own analyze through my time at MEDUSA and Meta-Manpower, I rate upper-middle of the road compared to the real brutes such as Behemoth and Mountain Man. The other stuff? Close enough."

“I have nothing to add to what Enforcer shared with us.”

“Phantom is the ultimate ‘warfighter’ with extreme combat abilities and military weaponry

DarkStar aka Commander Joshua Rose made a suggestion to Seekers plan. “I’m not sure about your quarrels, but I’ve seen news reports of Enforcer using Flare Bullets. Enforcer, if you could blind the crew when we teleport in, it might save us a whole lot of hurting. If they can’t see us they can’t attack us. It could make mopping up the ones still effective much easier. The sooner we finish this the sooner we can reinforce the assault on The Tower.”

Hoping his idea was being considered by Seeker and the others. “My goggles protect me from bright light Enforcer.”

Enforcer replied, “Good idea unfortunately my flare won’t cover the whole ship. It’s too big. I’m not fast enough to get two shots off before they are on us.

Seeker expressed concern that the flare would signal to the Tarot Masters that the Blackfire had been boarded.

DarkStar informed Enforcer that he couldn’t be teleported while his force field was on. He would have to keep it off until after DarkStar teleported the team onto The Chariot.

Understanding Seeker’s plan for his role in the assault, Joshua shared his idea for taking out the sails. “I’m going to pull a page from Bull’s book and do a move-through all three of the mast the second we jump aboard the Blackfire.” Chuckling with gallows humor. “I still believe the real danger of the Chariot is its power cannons. Destroy them and the ship turns into a weather balloon. Enforcer, don’t be afraid to catch me in any of your blast radius, I’m pretty durable.”

Enforcer checked his equipment and looked directly a DarkStar, “Don’t worry about Friendly Fire, got it.”

With an almost impish look in eyes, Phantom turned to DarkStar and said in a sarcastically dark tone, "Don't be afraid to shoot you . . . got it."

When Seeker dismissed his team to board the transport, he took DarkStar aside. “Just wanted to let you know you wouldn’t be the Big Man on the Crimson Guard. You would be Klondike Junior.”

With a wink, and good natured smile, Joshua replied in a competitive but friendly tone of voice as they head to plane. "Maybe we can test that theory some day in better times."

The heroes boarded and were on their way.

When they were crossing the English Channel a vision appeared to each of them. However they did not know it was appearing to all of them as it seemed the vision was only appearing to each of them individually.
To The Cure the vision offered to free her from the radiation which coursed through her body. She wouldn’t be a danger to others. She would be free from her suit and could touch and hug her father again. She would be able to find her true love. To come true all she would have to do would be to put her faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

To Starbolt the vision offered a future where he controlled his powers. He didn’t have to wear the special bands. In this future he was a galactic hero loved by all of Earth and a hundred other planets. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

Starbolt commented, "Not interested in your offer. There is only one God and you ain't him." To his team’s leader, he asked. "What are you directions for when we arrive?"

Gale replied, “You will board your assigned tank. We will then meet up with the English.”

To himself Starbolt hummed AC/DC's Highway to Hell.

To Black Orchid the vision offered to reunite her with her father. They were a family again. He wasn’t absent because of work or simply disappearing … he was the loving father she had always wished for. To come true all she would have to do would be to put her faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

The Black Orchid was sitting quietly in her own thoughts when another one intruded... thoughts of her father... whom she has not thought about in quite some time... to be reunited... after all this time... where was he?... why did he leave?... "I could see him again... Mom and I could see him again... thinks would be like they were before he left and... but... NO!" She thought of ejecting the vision from her mind, but then another thought stopped her. Using her formidable intellect and force of will, she re-imagined the vision as a gentle persuasion...  a gentle hand... a hand that she then grabs with her all the might of her mind and won't let go... a hand that she attempts to pull closer... "Where are you, you bastard? What are you? Let me see your face!" She then imagines using the hand as a conduit... a conduit through which she can form and shape her vacuum blast as an extension of her will to race back and slam her assailant. A force to give her enemy pause, and possibly fear.

Anyone watching will see a furrowed brow and then the beginnings of a smirk cross the face of The Black Orchid. Moments later she is obviously concentrating very hard on something and breaks into a brief sweat. She is focusing all of her mind on making the vision solid in her mind and is blocking out interactions with the outside world until it is resolved.

To Adamas the vision offered a world where he wasn’t a stranger anymore. He understood the subtle cultural nuances of life. He shared joy and laughter with friends and family, especially he shared love with his wife, Jessica. He could be at home. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

As the magic attack began, Adamas saw the vision, and felt its draw, at the same time, he saw the evil behind it; he’d lived this lie, and knew the truth.  If he gave in, this world would become a wasteland.  Dismissing the vision, he mentally thanked Dr. Arcane for closing the loophole that had left him susceptible to magic.

There was not a vision to Elwood but he could sense something was happening to Harvey. Then Harvey projected an illusion to Elwood. In the illusion the vision offered them a world where everyone knew Harvey. All accepted them and laughed with them. No more having others laughing when Elwood and Harvey weren’t laughing. They all laughed together. They all had a good time together and everyone was oh so pleasant. Harvey and Elwood loved all the friends they had. To come true all they would have to do would be to put their faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

Those near Elwood heard him say, "Don't worry buddy. We'll win over everyone one person at a time."

To The Wraith the vision offered a world where his fiancé was alive. She never died and her would be murders had paid the price instead. They were marrying soon. Instead of being filled with anger and hate he was filled with love. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

Hidden in the shadows and always silent, The Wraith gave no outward sign of what he thought of the offer.

To Red Hawk the vision offered a future where Freedom Eagle had created him. He had stored his memory into Red Hawk. It was Freedom Eagle’s desire to make sure that he always protected Megalopolis. Red Hawk wasn’t a copy, a cheat or even a Legacy. He really was Freedom Eagle reborn. Red Hawk was freed of his fear and shame and filled with love. The love that Freedom Eagle had for the citizens of Megalopolis and the love the citizens had for him, Freedom Eagle! To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

Chris’s android eyes are devoid of any emotion as he hears the strange voice. I don’t understand. Chris looked left and then right, to the others onboard the transport. “Bri … Condor? What was that? Is it … can it be true? Can he really do that? Can I become Freedom Eagle for real? Please say he can … please?”

Condor didn’t respond. He appeared lost in thought. His face looked like he was wrestling with himself. Chris wondered what could be upsetting Brian so much. Condor looked a Chris and said weakly, “I dunno … maybe.”

To Archer the vision offered to reunite him with his father, Enforcer. Enforcer would mourn with him the loss of his mother. Together they would team-up with Craftsman, Lightning Fist, and Kali to fight for right and justice. Exactly the life the monks and his mother had wanted for him. Archer would love his life of adventure with his new family. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

Sitting in the shadows of the M-5Q, his new bow ready for action the Archer waited. Meditating for the upcoming battle, Daniel was inside his Sanctuary, the place in his mind where he kept his true-self. Floating cross-legged in the darkness the one-time warrior-monk was lit only by the luminescent pearl of his soul. Suddenly his meditation was interrupted by a vision. It was powerful call to his outer-self, a call to his temporal concerns. From his Sanctuary, Daniel could see the taint of Cr’tegorf’s offer. That which is offered so freely, couldn’t come at a higher cost. That which is cherished so highly would become worthless. No.

To Armorman Junior the vision offered a future where no one mentions his father’s successes or that his dad was the original Armorman. The entire world viewed Armorman Junior as such a great hero that his father was only remembered as Armorman Junior’s dad and the man who help with creating the Armorman suit but it was Duane who had made it into the stuff of legends. He was loved and adore by parents worldwide as he was the perfect role model for their kids. Duane loved that he stood in no one’s shadow. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

Armorman Junior replied with a small chuckle to himself, “No thanks, I have achieved a lot without slighting my dad. While I want to be my own hero I love my dad. I don’t want the world to think less of him or his accomplishments.”

To Centurion X the vision offered a future where past sins were completely forgotten. He had completely changed the legacy he had given by his parents. The DeBrandt name stood for the best that business and wealth offered to the world. His businesses provided meaningful work and self esteem to millions worldwide. His products made everyone’s’ lives better. Communities thrived and grew where he opened plants. Crime was down as well because Centurion X was there too. He was loved as the champion of the common man. Alexander loved his new life and he lived without fear of the past. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

As the aircraft approach the landing point, the vision began to cloud his mind.  He thought to himself, "A clean slate...  a fresh start and respect....  I already have a clean slate! 'I have already given myself a fresh start.  Respect must be earned!  My future is mine to create, you piss ant wannabe!  Get outta my head!!!"

To DarkStar the vision offered a world where his dream had come true. He had ended the biases and discrimination that caused Meta-beings to turn to crime. He had created a safe world for normals. No longer were there mad gods causing havoc and mayhem simply because they had the power. Normals were no longer their toys which could be easily broken when the mad gods threw their temper tantrums. There was order and precision in a world where man loved his fellow man. Each and every meta-being and normal showed that love by how they treated each other with respect, kindness, and peace.  To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.

DarkStar sat calmly in the middle of the C-5 Galaxy transport, his eyes seemingly staring a thousand miles away. StarCorp was developing a variant of the Star Dagger that had a similar cargo capacity that could make low orbit. The loud noise of the aircraft was oddly soothing as he sat listening to Cr’tegorf’s offer. Hidden by the throbbing of the C-5’s engines, a deep chuckle rumbled in the titan of transport’s cerulean chest. A slim smile and small shake of his head was the only indication to others he had heard or seen anything. “ . . . and exactly what is it I need you for you delusional little demon? Run Cr’tegorf, run before I find you. I’m going to tear down your tinker toy tower, and then I’m coming for you and shove me fist up your @&&. See you soon sweetheart.”

To Phantom the vision failed to appear. As one too far gone to give or receive love the spell found nothing to offer.

To Magus the vision offered but he immediately willed it away. His heightened sense of reality immediately told him it wasn’t a true vision but a magical trap. It was a charm intended to control the emotions of the target. Magus was surprised that Cr’tegorf’s first line of defense was a ‘love spell’. He looked across the aircraft to the faces on his teammates. He was sure this wasn’t a ‘simple love spell’. He wondered if they had taken their first loses and if so, when would they know.

Not wanting to waste any time repelling the enemy’s first attack, Magus immediately took to the taskforce's communication system, "Attention all taskforce members! As you may or may not be aware of already, we are currently under attack by the enemy. Cr’tegorf is currently attempting to control hearts and minds through the use of a rather complex 'love spell'. Do not believe the visions you are currently having, and please reach out to each of your squad members and help relieve them of its influence if you feel they may somehow be under Cr’tegorf control. If you feel that a member of your team has been compromised by this attack please contact me immediately. Once again, we are currently under attack - prepare for battle."

Adamas looked around at those around him... Magus again showed his mettle, warning the others of the attack.  Adamas nodded to his leader.

The aircrafts flew into England’s airspace. The heroes seemed to relax. It appeared that the effects of the vision did not last long and heroes gained strength from each other’s presence and encouragement. The team landed at the base ahead of schedule. They boarded their tanks and rendezvous with the English forces.

After the Crown Guard had engaged the Megaspurs and they were sure all of its defenses and electronic camouflage active, the two M-5Q Tanks proceed slowly towards The Tower. ’Air One' and 'Ground One' were in the crew compartment of the Tank 2, and Air Two' and 'Ground Two' in Tank 1.

On the way to the ground zero, a few of the heroes near The Black Orchid noticed an interesting sight. Occasionally, and it might be hard to tell since it was dark in the tank, The Black Orchid appeared to... fade. Not too fast, and not too completely, but first she seemed to lose color, her hair, skin and outfit dissolving to a bluish-grey. Then she seemed to lose contrast, becoming a flatter grey, blending further and further into the background until she's almost not there. All the while she was concentrating intensely, as if she was willing this to happen. Then she shook her head and slowly returned to looking normal. She looked around to see if anyone noticed.

Looking back from the driver's seat, Centurion X asked Black Orchid, "Is that normal or should I notify command that we're under attack?"  His voice was flat and matter of fact, as calmly as if he had been asking if she enjoyed her breakfast.

Seeing Centurion X looking at her and hearing his question, The Black Orchid replied "What?... Oh. No, I'm just trying something new that I hope will help us on this mission. I didn't realize anyone was watching. What did you see?" She was genuinely curious about his observation and leaned forward to talk to him.

"I always like to keep tabs on my surroundings.  First you lost color, then contrast and focus.  It was like watching an old CRT screen in the process of going out.  Are you alright?  What were you trying to accomplish?"  Though his voice was obvious synthesized and processed through his suit, a tone of concern came through.  "Please warn us next time.  We're in for some rather strange things, I think.  I'd like to know that everyone here has their wits about them.

"Honestly I wasn't even sure it would work. I believe I can now make myself at least partially invisible based on what you observed, hopefully for a short period of time. I wanted to try it a few times before we got in the thick of things. I'm sorry to have concerned you, but I do want to assure you that my full attention is on the task ahead." The Black Orchid was serious as she said this, but a smile of satisfaction then spread across her face, and she said, "OK all, don't be alarmed, I'm going to try it again," and she repeated the process.

"You go for it.  We've got about 5 minutes before we hit the point of no return.  When we're done with all of this, I'd be willing to help you look into your powers.  Maybe help you figure out new things you can do."  CX turned back to the screens and looked them over.  He lifted his data pad and poked at the touch screen a bit.  He then pulled up the fusion engine's monitoring screen.  He then flipped everything back to normal control screens.  "Keep your eyes open folks, we're getting close!"

Halfway to The Tower, 'Ground One' and 'Ground Two' deployed and followed closely behind each of their respective tanks.

As hoped the defending army launched their aerial forces from The Tower. Magus gave the signal.

*Whoump*

The Tarot Masters aerial forces did not close to the edge of the coral. Instead they stayed half way between the Tower and the edge of the coral. War Wagon called to Magus over the comm.-unit. “It appears they are leery of the effects of the coral. They don’t want it to accidently force them to land if they get to close.”

“Do we move out of the coral into the open? Do we continue with our plan to lure them in?”

Manta-Man spoke using the comm.-unit, “I see movement in the thicker portions of the coral. I think there are demons moving toward us. I can’t tell the size of the force or how serious a threat they are. If we stay here, I believe we will be ambushed from the sides and the rear.”

Psimon spoke using the comm.-unit, “I can’t block their telepath’s metal switchboard. She is too powerful. I will keep her from finding out about the Black Ops team’s presence on The Chariot but I can only do it for 30 seconds. After that the Tarot Masters will know and will be able to send reinforcements.”

War Wagon said, “Waiting your commands Team Leaders”

Once again Magus took to the task-force's communication system, "Tank drivers advance on The Tower! Ground Teams prepare for deployment. Arial Teams remain on standby and wait for your signal."

Turning to the tank crew, Centurion X said. "Alright folks, their playing mind games with us.  FOCUS!!!  Keep your eyes and ears open.  We're gonna burn our way to The Tower and open fire.  Watch out for ground troops.  Hopefully our actions will let the other tank get into position, unhindered!  We CAN DO THIS!!!"

Waiting was the hardest part.  Everyone seemed preoccupied with waiting for the word to attack as the tanks left the coral into the open ground. It's not cramped in the tank but the walls seem to be closing in on the group of heroes. The air was thick. Fists are clinched. Palms are sweaty. No one paid much attention to each other. Everyone was too busy waiting...waiting to fight. Waiting to strike. Some waiting to lead. Some to follow and at least one who waited to obey.  Mary made her way to the laser turret. She then removed her suit and sat in the gunner's chair. Without hesitation she put the target in her sights...and waited for the word to attack.

Mary remembered when the vision had faded...to be free of that dreaded suit. To be able to hug her dad. Maybe even find true love. They wouldn't understand. How could they. The only other chance she had to live a somewhat normal life died when a freak bolt of lightning killed Catalyst. It doesn't feel like betrayal to her, even thought it should. No it feels more like...a blessing. She accepted Cr'tegorf's offer and a feeling of comfort flowed over her, but one has to wonder...did Mary find salvation or has the Cure made a deal with the devil?

*Whoump*

The Special Ops team appeared on the deck of the Blackfire. The crew knew about the tanks and the heroes with them. The appearance of heroes on their deck did not surprise them. They had expected to be boarded.
Chat Noir sprinted across the ship. He leaped over barrels and used the rigging to swing past the nearest pirates. In seconds he was at the stern of the ship. He attacked Shipmate “13”. The team didn’t know their opponents names so they identified them by numbers. Chat Noir raked his claws across Shipmate “13” taking him out of the fight.

Red Fury lowered her magic cutlass. It started to vibrate. A vibratory blast issued from it striking Seeker in the chest. The force of the blow knocked him into DarkStar’s back. Red Fury yelled, “We being boarded. Quickly send help. My crew can handle most of them but the Teleporting Terror brought them. We need help!”

Seeker replied as he charged up the stairs to the bow. “Help won’t get here in time!” He fired his crossbow bolt into Shipmate 14 hitting him and knocking him to the deck. Seeker swung his axe at Red Fury missing her.

With his weapon at the ready, the 'Armored Avatar of Death' stared at his first victim with the lifeless eyes of a cold-blooded predator. He remorselessly pulls back on the weapon's trigger and the sound of a three round burst rings out from its barrel. All of his shots struck Shipmate 2. The pirate rolled with the shots and remained standing. He drew his flintlock and cutlass.

Shipmate 5 charged at Phantom. He raised his flintlock and fired. He missed.

Enforcer raised his Force Field and fired a round at the nearest cannon. It was an explosive round. It exploded destroying the cannon and knocking shipmate 4 unconscious.

Shipmate 8 charged at Phantom. He raised his flintlock and fired. He hit with his enchanted bullet. Phantom rolled with the impact as the bullet pierced his body armor. {GM Note: 10 points damage. -5 to Invulnerability and -5 to Power Points}

Shipmate 14 fired his flintlock at Seeker. He hit him. Seeker flinched in pain but still stood.

DarkStar ran down the center of the Blackfire. He built up a full head of steam as he crashed into the Fore-mast.

KRASH!!

The wooden Fore-mast exploded in splinters as DarkStar smashed through it. The mast and sail fell over the port side and down to the ground.

DarkStar charged onward barreling toward the Main-mast.

KRASH!

The massive Main-mast splintered as  DarkStar ran through it. The sail, crow’s nest with Shipmate 1 in it, and mast fell over the starboard side of the Blackfire.

DarkStar charged onward toward the Mizzen-mast.

BUMP

DarkStar hit the mast failing to make a dent in it. He stood in front of it, spent from his powerful run.

{GM Note: In figuring the Masts structure rating I used the Hard Wood rating of 4. I figured the size and strength of the mast would be triple the SR. So the Mast Hit Points were 12. DarkStar is moving 80” during running this gives him a bonus die of 1d8. Rolling 3d10+1d8+9 DarkStar gets the result of 26 damage points. Here the damage applied to masts:
Fore-mast attack: 26 are greater than 4 SR and greater than 12 HP so mast is destroyed. 26 reduced by 12.
Main-mast attack: 14 are greater than 4 SR and greater than 12 HP so mast is destroyed. 14 reduced by 12.
            Mizzen-mast attack: 2 is less than 4 SR. No damage to 12 HP of the mast.}

Shipmate 3 stared in horror as the Teleporting Titan ran past him. In sheer panic he turned and ran down into the hold.

Shipmate 6 charged Enforcer firing his flintlock. He missed

Cindermaid flew off the deck around the port side. She fired a fireball at the deck underneath DarkStar. The floor burned and creaked. It broke underneath the weight of the Cobalt Commander. DarkStar fell into the hold. It was dark and 8ft tall. In front of him was the Mizzen-mist. It extended all the way through the ship. In the rest of the hold was the supplies, stolen treasure, and a shipmate hiding in fear.

Shipmate 7 charged Phantom firing his flintlock. He missed

Shipmate 10 pulled out his cutlass and flintlock. He didn’t move. He couldn’t decide who he should attack

Shipmate 15 charged Enforcer firing his flintlock. He missed

Shipmate 2 charged at Phantom firing his flintlock. He hit with his enchanted bullet. Phantom rolled with the impact. {GM Note: 8 points damage. -5 to Power Points and -3 to HP}

Shipmate 12 charged Chat Noir firing his flintlock. He hit but Chat Noir withstood the damage.

Shipmate 11 charged Chat Noir blasting him with the flintlock. Chat Noir hissed with pain but remained standing.

Shipmate 9 pulled out his cutlass and flintlock. He didn’t move. He couldn’t decide who he should attack.

The ground forces exited the coral. Slowly they followed the tanks toward The Tower. They had chosen the northern route to keep out of the sites of the cannons of The Chariot. All hoped the Black Ops team was successful. The open field would be a death zone if the Blackfire unleashed its fearsome broadside on them.

Tank 1 took the North most position with Tank 2 to the South of it. The waiting was intense.  Tank 2 fired two rockets. The ground troops watched to see if War Wagon was firing on the Tarot Masters’ aerial forces or The Tower itself. To everyone’s surprise the seeker rockets hits the other Tank.

Inside Tank 2 Skyhawk dropped to the floor as a loud crashing sound was heard from the back of the Tank. Space Racer crashed through the rear and flew through the front, smashing the control panel and front windshield. Skyhawk flew out the window with Space Racer. Laserfire turned the laser turret to toward Tank 1. He fired 12 laser blasts hitting with all of them. He destroyed Tank 1’s rocket launchers.

Inside Tank 1 Cure watched the rockets leave Tank 2. That was her cue. She rotated the laser turret toward Tank 1. When she saw Tank 1’s Laser fire she fired 12 laser blasts as well. She also destroyed the rocket launchers. Radiation alarms sounded within Tank 1. All the bay doors and exits opened for the crew to evacuate. The radiation had reached unsafe levels. Elwood, Magus, Adamas, Condor, Dynamo, Red Hawk, Shatterman, and Starbolt retreated into the midst of the ground forces throwing them into chaos. The ground forces didn’t understand what the aerial team was fleeing from. The Cure calmly put her suit back on and flew out of the Tank to join Space Racer and Skyhawk.

Centurion X and Black Orchid remained inside.

Molecule Man ran toward Tank 2. He smashed his diamond hard fists into the side of the Tank. Destroying the flame thrower and punched a massive hole in its armor.

Magnetor used his magnetic gun to grab War Wagon. He threw him out the front window into the field in front of the Tank. War Wagon tumbled to the ground falling out of his powered wheelchair. Magnetor jumped out the window. He ran across the field to where Skyhawk, Space Racer, and Cure were waiting.

Super Nova fired 5 flame blasts at Tank 2. He hit with all of them destroying the laser turret and the flame thrower.

The rear Tank door opened. Gale, Epsilon, Serena, American Woman, Blastar, Gauntlet, Raven, and Skylark abandoned Tank 2. They retreated into the ranks of ground forces 1 causing confusion and interfering with their ability to attack.

Sister Indigo fired 5 spirit bolts at Tank 1. She destroyed the laser turret when all her bolts hit.

Emerald unleashed a powerful TK wave bashing the front and sides. The wave destroyed both flame throwers.

Diablo fired 3 fireballs at Tank 1. He missed striking Resonator instead. His armor protected him from the fireballs. The armor was slightly damage but still functions.

Mother Superior fired a lightning bolt, striking Tank 1.

Across the field out of the Stonehenge area ran two of the largest Tarot Masters, Terra-izer and Tower.

Tower lifted his massive club. He slammed it down onto Tank 1.

Terra-izer smashed his fist into Tank 2.

From the Stonehenge rock formation the King, Queen, Two, Three, Four, and Five of Pentacle Suit took cover and fired their weapons. All shots but 1 hit Tank 2.

The Page of the Pentacle Suit took flight and maneuvered south of the heroes. He fired his weapon hitting Tank 2.

From the Stonehenge the Knight of the Pentacle suit lead Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, and Ten northward in a flanking maneuver of the heroes. They fired their weapons. 4 of 6 Pentacle Warriors’ shots hit and 2 missed Tank 2.

From within Stonehenge Shroud cast his lightning spell. The lightning bolt streaked across the sky. It struck Tank 2 disabling it.

{GM Note: For this turn it is normal submissions. The team was taken by surprise when the 6 heroes joined the Domain’s side. Fleeing the attacks for those inside the Tanks was their only action for the turn. The ground forces were expecting to be attacked from the air not to face their teammates retreating into their ranks. The ground forces were not able to hold actions because of the surprise that the attacks were not directed at them and the chaos of the aerial forces joining them.

Please submit your single action for this turn with replies.

If any of the players would like to play a NPC leader as well thereby being in command of the squad please let me know and I will provide you a NPC for you to submit for as well as your regular character.

Megalopolis: Crossover Issue 2: Move Out! - Magus' Response

<Replies to your vision?>

IC:

Not wanting to waste any time repelling the enemies first attack, Magus immediately took to the taskforce's communication system, "Attention all taskforce members!

OOC:

Would that count as a mass attempt to break the control Cr’tegorf may have over any of the task-force's members?

As hoped the defending army launched their aerial forces from the Tower. Magus gave the signal.

*Whoump*

The Tarot Masters aerial forces did not close to the edge of the coral. Instead they stayed half way between the Tower and the edge of the coral. War Wagon called to Magus over the comm.-unit. “It appears they are leery of the effects of the coral. They don’t want it to accidentally force them to land if they get to close.”

IC:

Once again Magus took to the task-force's communication system, "Tank drivers advance on the Tower! Ground Teams prepare for deployment. Arial Teams remain on standby and wait for your signal."

OOC:

If you need anything else from Magus, Tom - let me know - I'll get it out as soon as I can.

Talk to you guys soon,

-Kev

Yes it will.

OOC:

Tom, you listed Phantom's weapon inventory as:

Right FN Five-seveN Pistol: 20 rounds
Left FN Five-seveN Pistol: 20 rounds
FN P90 Submachine Gun: 50 rounds

It's been a while since I played his last so I completely forgot to provide a weapons list for him. Would you mind if I modified his weapon inventory to the following instead?

Right FN Five-seveN Pistol: 20 rounds
Left FN Five-seveN Pistol: 20 rounds
AR-57 Assault Rifle ( w/ under-barrel M203 Grenade Launcher ): 50 rounds ( 1 grenade - M406 High-Explosive Round )
Gerber Mark II Combat Knife

Do you want to know the number of extra magazines that he's carrying as well. or are we just going to go under the 'infinite ammo' umbrella that comics generally seem to operate under?

Phantom is Level 2, right? He leveled up just as Jeff left the game if I recall correctly - am I remembering that right?

By the way, one of these days Phantom is going to have to get his hands on one of these bad boys ( j/k ) LOL -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4ebtj1jR7c

-Kev
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
No problem with updating his weaponry.

Please let me know the number magazines he has. While comics are unlimited the V&V game puts limits on quantity and running out of ammo opens up with new role-playing opportunities. If you have an issue with this let me know and we can discuss it more.

Yes Phantom is Level 2. No increases in power or new powers because he is Street Patrol Level.

Thanks
Tom
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're ok with this, Phantom will have the following extra ammunition:

4 extra FN Five-seveN Pistol magazines
2 extra AR-57 Assault Rifle magazines
6 extra M406 High-Explosive grenades

Also, when writing up Phantom's actions for this turn should I work in one attack or two? Or just write up one attack at a time? I ask because I don't know if the Black Ops team has surprise or not, and he would like to take down the two ship hands in front of him.

-Kev
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am okay with the extra ammunition.

Write up 1 attack. The crew was expecting an attack so I will roll for detect surprise from the teleportation for each Pirate. So there is a chance that a few may act this turn. I also need to keep this fight in sync with the rest of the battle below. So I won't be covering more than 1 turn of combat.

Best

OOC:

Tom, I just wanted to clarify Magus' response - as the Tanks approach the enemies aerial defenders, Magus will give the order for the heroes ground units to deploy and engage the enemy at will. Once it’s apparent that the two groups have 'locked horns', Magus will give the signal for the heroes aerial units to join the attack.

If at any point it seems that we're being 'set up' and that we might be marching into a trap ( e.g. our ground forces getting overwhelmed, about to take heavy losses to our ground units, etc. ), Magus will immediately give the signal for the aerial units to join the attack.

As for the Blackfire, during the Task-force leaders conference Magus said the following:

" . . . in hopes of either taking control of her or driving her directly down the throats of the enemies’ ground forces as they try to take the field in support of their air forces."
However, you had Seeker say this to the members of the Commando Squad:

Seeker called his squad together.”Okay here are your assignments. Chat Noir spread your bad luck at you take out whoever is at the Stern. DarkStar, FISH has divined that the Blackfire floats by magic but it needs its sails to move. Your job is to disable them. Any questions?”

I was just curious if you intentionally had Seeker dismiss and change Magus' plan or was this just a simple oversight? Either way I'm completely cool with it - I was just curious - thanks.

-Kev
--------------------------------------------
More of a misinterpretation of what "taking control" meant. Disabling the ship is far easier way to control it than having 5 people be the crew of a sailing ship, especially when none of the characters have any sailing experience. I couldn't see them being able to drive the ship at all.

I will have Seeker provide in character communications to the effect next turn.

Regards
Tom

<DarkStar IC: Initial response and actions>

DarkStar did not hear the last of the words spoken by the Director because Cybil informed him who War Wagon was. It was his friend Kevin Vanderiaan!!!

Softy shaking his head, Joshua walks up to his old friend. You and I are going to talk about an exo-suit after we kick this guy’s butt.” Switching back to vocals and slapping the War Wagon on the shoulder, “Can’t say this is anything like old times, but I’m darn happy to see you in action again pal.”

“My intentions are to build a series of 32 satellites in orbit around the earth. These satellites would be capable of responding to an inter-dimensional threat anywhere on the face of the Earth. The gravimetric impulse cannon mounted on each would require 3 of 4 security codes to activate and only one to deactivate …”
Listening intently to the “hero new to the community”, Joshua quickly realizes two things form his speech. The man is obviously of high intellect, and from the sounds of his plan might have resources comparable to StarCorp. “Centurion X is it?” Joshua takes a short pause to let the golden understand he has given his plan true consideration.

*** After listening to Black Orchid, Joshua was hearing a plan that should have been in place years ago if the “powers that be” has half a brain among them all. “I like where you’re headed there. Too bad you weren’t in the business ten years ago. Might have avoided this whole mess.”

Looking to the Special Op team’s “leader”, DarkStar stepped up, demanding to be noticed through his sheer girth. “I’d be interested to know where you got your intel on what Red Fury usually does or doesn’t do. I thought she just arrived from the past? More important though is, could you let us know what just do you and Chat Noir do Seeker? I apologize my meta-data on Canadian heroes is incomplete, and I’ve only heard rumors of the Phantom over there.” After sharing their various skills and powers DarkStar aka Commander Joshua Rose makes a suggestion to Seekers plan. “I’m not sure about your quarrels, but I’ve seem news reports of Enforcer using Flare Bullets. Enforcer, if you can blind the crew when we teleport in, it might save us a whole lot of hurting. The sooner we finish this the sooner we can reinforce the assault on the Tower.”

Hoping his ideas are being considered by Seeker and the others. “My goggles protect me from bright light Enforcer, so I’m going to pull a page from Bull’s book and do a move-through all three mast the second we jump aboard the Blackfire.” Chuckling with gallows humor. “The real danger of the Chariot is its power cannons. Destroy them and the ship turns into a weather ballon, so don’t be afraid to catch me in any of your blast radius, I’m pretty durable.”

OOC: I so very badly want to teleport the Special Ops team in early … for recon purposes.  I will provide a response to Cr’tegorf offer in a day or two Tom. I’m pretty sure I’ll go with my initial thought, but want to word it just right. You know … keep to the PG rating and all

Warm Regards and great fun
Thanks Tom

*** Just some IC and OOC responses to John's last post***

Looking to the Special Op team’s “leader”, DarkStar stepped up, demanding to be noticed through his sheer girth. “I’d be interested to know where you got your intel on what Red Fury usually does or doesn’t do. OOC:

Given the personalities involved here, I can't imagine that bullying the other members of this team into recognizing him and then demanding information from them is going to work so well for Darkstar. Just an opinion though -

After sharing their various skills and powers . . .
OOC:

Again, I think you might be assuming too many things here, John. Given the personalities involved here; and how pushy Rose came off initially, I have a weird feeling that there won't be much 'sharing' going on here. If nothing else - it just ain't that kind of crew. Seeker for example is a former 'mountain man' who was forced to grow up on his really quick in a rather harsh environment, who became a really bad-ass RCMP officer, then turned into a loner, wanderer and explorer who eventually started up his own superhero team. Chat Noir is a half-feral wolverine type who has a background that reads like a Frankenstein story. Then there's Phantom, a revenge driven, former career military man turned cold-blooded vigilante, who now hunts bad guys in the streets of Megalopolis with military weaponry. If you wanted to include Enforcer in this breakdown - a former top-notch 'troubleshooter' for the CIA who had a license to kill who eventually became a gun wielding superhero.

Again; it could just be me, but I don't see a whole lot of sharing going on here lol ;)

Phantom IC:

( OOC: If Darkstar inquires about Phantom's abilities ) Phantom turns his head slowly and then looks at Rose with a sense of disbelief and contempt in his eyes and says, "Do I strike you as the type of guy that likes to share his feelings with other men?"

. . . DarkStar aka Commander Joshua Rose makes a suggestion to Seekers plan.

Destroy them and the ship turns into a weather balloon, so don’t be afraid to catch me in any of your blast radius, I’m pretty durable.”

Phantom IC:

With an almost impish look in eyes, Phantom turns to DarkStar and says in a sarcastically dark tone, "Don't be afraid to shoot you . . . got it."

Talk to everyone soon,

I am having some difficulty following the sequence of events, but I'll catch on.

Two questions before I respond:
Is Harvey in the tank when the vision comes to him?
Who else is in the tank?

Thanks,
Mike

Starbolt comments, "Not interested in your offer. There is only one God and you ain't him." To his team’s leader, he will ask. "What are you directions for when we arrive?"  To himself he will hum AC/DC's Highway to Hell.

Kev OOC:

GM OOC: The sharing statement was made by was me. You are correct that statement doesn’t the team justice but I had information that needed to be passed on. Unfortunately I was too brief. Fortunately it has opened up role-play opportunities. So I will not change the current issue but put this exchange in the next. Is that okay with everyone, a little retcon per se’?

IC (with John and Kev):

Seeker called his squad together. “Our mission is to control The Chariot. We are to drive it down into Tarot Master’s ground forces. Does anyone have any sailing experience?”

Your job is to disable them. Any questions?”

Looking to the Special Op team’s “leader”, DarkStar stepped up, demanding to be noticed through his sheer girth. “I’d be interested to know where you got your intel on what Red Fury usually does or doesn’t do. I thought she just arrived from the past?

Seeker was unfazed with DarkStar’s stepping up. It was like Seeker dealt with someone that size all the time. He didn’t show any sign of noticing DarkStar’s girth but did look at him when he spoke. “What do you mean just arrived? The Tarot Masters have been at Stonehenge for a week now. We have been gathering intel while they build their Tower.  The Chariot has been in our time line longer. FISH thinks The Chariot arrived in our time almost 3 weeks ago. Where have you been?

“Eagle Eye and the FISH Scryers are the providers of the intel. Whenever The Chariot performs patrol on the perimeter Red Fury commands from the Bow.

DarkStar replied, “More important though is, could you let us know what just do you and Chat Noir do Seeker? I apologize my meta-data on Canadian heroes is incomplete, and I’ve only heard rumors of the Phantom over there.”
Phantom turned his head slowly and then looked at Rose with a sense of disbelief and contempt in his eyes and said, "Do I strike you as the type of guy that likes to share his feelings with other men?"

Chat Noir gave a cat-like hiss.

Enforcer said nothing but chambered a round.

Seeker said “Fair enough question, DarkStar. While I was briefed on your abilities, you should know what each brings to the mission. Here is the basic rundown on your abilities I received from DSA and CHESS.”

“Enforcer has a force field and fires specialty bullets

“Phantom is the ultimate ‘warfighter’ with extreme combat abilities and military weaponry

“Anything to add or correct?”

DarkStar informed Enforcer that he couldn’t be teleported while his force field was on. He would have to keep it off until after DarkStar teleported the team onto The Chariot.

Then DarkStar aka Commander Joshua Rose made a suggestion to Seeker’s plan.

Hoping his ideas were being considered by Seeker and the others. “My goggles protect me from bright light Enforcer, so I’m going to pull a page from Bull’s book and do a move-through all three masts the second we jump aboard the Blackfire.” Chuckling with gallows humor. “The real danger of the Chariot is its power cannons. Destroy them and the ship turns into a weather balloon, so don’t be afraid to catch me in any of your blast radius, I’m pretty durable.”

With an almost impish look in eyes, Phantom turned to DarkStar and said in a sarcastically dark tone, "Don't be afraid to shoot you . . . got it."

Enforcer sighted his weapon and looked directly a DarkStar, “Don’t worry about Friendly Fire, Check.”

Seeker considered DarkStar’s suggestion. Looking to Enforcer, “The Blackfire is 78½ feet long from stem to stern. Its keel is 55½ feet long. The breath of the ship is 26 feet. Can one of your flare rounds cover the entire area?”

Enforcer replied, “No”.

Seeker decided, “The flare is out. I don’t want to risk signally to the rest of the Tarot Master’s aerial forces something is wrong with The Chariot when one shot won’t blind the entire crew. We stay with the original tactics.”

When Seeker dismissed his team to board the transport, he took DarkStar aside. “Just wanted to let you know you wouldn’t be the Big Man on the Crimson Guard. You would be Klondike Junior.”

Together the heroes boarded and were on their way.

<DarkStar IC: Initial response and actions>

Looking to the Special Op team’s “leader”, DarkStar stepped up, noticed by all because of his sheer girth and skin tone. “Hello, my name is DarkStar. It’s a shame to meet you all under these circumstances.

“More important though is getting this team all on the same page with each other. Would you let us know what abilities you and Chat Noir have? I apologize my meta-data on Canadian heroes is incomplete, and I’ve only heard rumors of the Phantom over there.” After sharing their various skills and powers DarkStar aka Commander Joshua Rose makes a suggestion to Seekers plan.

Understanding Seeker’s plan for his role in the assault, Joshua shares his idea for taking out the sails. “I’m going to pull a page from Bull’s book and do a move-through all three of the mast the second we jump aboard the Blackfire.” Chuckling with gallows humor. “I still believe, the real danger of the Chariot is its power cannons. Destroy them and the ship turns into a weather balloon. Enforcer, don’t be afraid to catch me in any of your blast radius, I’m pretty durable.”

Thanks

DarkStar is a teleporter. He has almost god-like strength, Nobel Prize worthy intelligence, and is tough as Adamantium.

<DarkStar IC: reply> "God-like strength, Hardly. According to my own analyze through my time at MEDUSA and Meta-Manpower, I rate upper-middle of the road compared to the real brutes such as Behemoth and Mountain Man. The other stuff? Close enough."
---------------------------------------------------------
When Seeker dismissed his team to board the transport, he took DarkStar aside. Just wanted to let you know you wouldn't be the Big Man on the Crimson Guard. You would be Klondike Junior.

<DarkStar IC: reply> With a wink, and good natured smile, Joshua replies in a competitive but friendly tone of voice as they head to plane. "Maybe we can test that theory some day in better times."

Seeing the CHESS Rooks and Doves puts The Black Orchid at ease. She worked with a few while honing her powers.

----------------

"Worship Cr'tgerof as a god? Maybe we should usher them on their way. Are any of the infidels weak enough that we could allow one to 'escape' and monitor his actions to see what this so-called god might be up to?"

----------------

"Ground assault sounds good." The Black Orchid nods. "I'd be glad to help with any plans to help us punch through." She seems genuinely eager to help..

----------------

[OOC: I'm not sure if The Black Orchid would have heard enough to make the connection or not] "Vacuum Matter Converter?" She looks at her hands. "I generate a vacuum when I draw energy from people. Is there a way we can use my ability to either nullify or overload the Converter?"

-----------------

Thinking about the 32 satellites, The Black Orchid does some quick mental calculations concerning orbit, coverage, ease of placement and time to build and test such satellites before placement to determine if such an idea has legs, and who has the resources to pull it off in such a short time. She'll chime in with whatever she comes up with.

-----------------

The vision.

Hey Tom. Sorry it's been so long since I've been active. But I'm back now and I'm thinking what if Mary takes the offer? I think this could be fun to play out. Let me know.

Come on...Someone has to be "THAT GUY" oh I mean GIRL.

LARRY
------------------------------------------
IC: Cr'tegorf gladly accepts Mary's worship. He tells her to stay quiet and do not think of him. He will contact her next when he needs her. After the heroes are defeated he will provide the reward that was made in the offer.

Once Mary is in a tank. Cr'tegorf appeared her. "Take control of the laser turret. Fire on the other tank destroying it. When done fly to the aerial forces of the Tarot Masters, joining them.

OOC: If Mary ever changes her mind, let me know. She will have to make a Charisma save to escape the Emotion Control. I will roll and we will discuss how to play it from there.

Thanks
Tom
-------------------------------------------
IC: The vision fades...to be free of that dreaded suit. She accepts Cr'tegorf's offer and a feeling of comfort flows over her, but one has to wonder...did Mary find salvation or has the Cure made a deal with the devil?

Larry
-----------------------------------------
IC: Waiting is the hardest part. Everyone seems preoccupied with waiting for the word to attack. Mary makes her way to the laser turret. She then removes her suit, puts the target in her sights...waits for the word to attack.

OOC: When the order is given to attack she'll fire on the tank. She took her suit off to slow down the crew. She'll fly out after the air strike team.

Larry
-----------------------------------------
Hey Tom,

Glad you like it. Just so we're clear I'm not trying to go bad or kill the CURE off. I just think that's how it should be played. This could be the turning point where Mary is no more and the Cure is all there is. At some point she would try to break free of his control. But until then...

Thanks for letting me play this out. Heck if we wanted to just shoot bad guys we could play video games. This is what makes role playing fun!

I may not be the straw that stirs the drink but I sure do stir the...well you know.

Larry
-----------------------------------------
IC: Waiting is the hardest part.  Everyone seems preoccupied with waiting for the word to attack. It's not cramped in the tank but the walls seem to be closing in on the group of heroes. The air is thick. Fists are clinched. Palms are sweaty. No one pays much attention to each other. Everyone is too busy waiting...waiting to fight. Waiting strike. Some waiting to lead. Some to follow and at least one who waits to obey.  Mary makes her way to the laser turret. She then removes her suit and sits in the gunner's chair. Without hesitation she puts the target in her sights...and waits for the word to attack.

OOC: When the order is given to attack she'll fire on the tank. She took her suit off to slow down the crew. She'll fly out after the air strike team.

Tom I did a rewrite.

Larry
-----------------------------------------
Tom, I was just going over the last issue again to make sure that I didn't miss anything and that I gave you all the responses that you needed from me and suddenly realized something - there was no vision for Phantom - was this a simple oversight, a devilishly clever GM plot/plan, or something else entirely?

Oh; and before I forget to ask, was there anything else you needed from me for Magus or Phantom?

-Kev
------------------------------------------
I forgot to make him one but his Willpower would protect him and his disposition would mean the spell wouldn't be able to figure out how to offer Love to him. So unless the offer of bringing his family back would appeal to him then we can skip. Stating the spell didn't work because Phantom is too far gone to ever feel or give love again.

So I have all I need unless you want to create an Offer of Love for Phantom if he would worship Cr'tegorf.

Thanks
Tom

Sounds good to me - makes complete sense actually. I'm with you - let’s leave it as is.

Thanks, Tom!

On the way to the drop site, a few of the heroes near The Black Orchid may notice an interesting sight. Occasionally, and it might be hard to tell since it is already dark, The Black Orchid appears to... fade. Not too fast, and not too completely, but first she seems to lose color, her hair, skin and outfit dissolving to a bluish-grey. Then she seems to lose contrast, becoming a flatter grey, blending further and further into the background until she's almost not there. All the while she is concentrating intensely, as if she is willing this to happen. Then she shakes her head and slowly returns to looking normal. She looks around to see if anyone noticed.

[OOC: this would occur a few times, but at a different time than The Black Orchid responding to the vision]

Marc
-------------------------------------------------------
Looking back from the driver's seat, Centurion X will ask Black Orchid, "Is that normal or should I notify command that we're under attack?"  His voice is flat and matter of fact.  As calmly as if he had been asking if she enjoyed her breakfast.

OOC: This is on the way to the drop site and prior to the burning of the coral.

DWayne
---------------------------------------------------------
Seeing Centurion X looking at her and hearing his question, The Black Orchid replies "What?... Oh. No, I'm just trying something new that I hope will help us on this mission. I didn't realize anyone was watching. What did you see?" She is genuinely curious about his observation and will lean forward to talk to him.

Marc
---------------------------------------------------------
"I always like to keep tabs on my surroundings.  First you lost color, then contrast and focus.  It was like watching an old CRT screen in the process of going out.  Are you alright?  What were you trying to accomplish?"  Though his voice is obvious synthesized and processed through his suit, a tone of concern comes through.  "Please warn us next time.  We're in for some rather strange things, I think.  I'd like to know that everyone here has their wits about them.

OOC: I think I copied everyone in the tank...?

DWayne
---------------------------------------------------------
"Honestly I wasn't even sure it would work. I believe I can now make myself at least partially invisible based on what you observed, hopefully for a short period of time. I wanted to try it a few times before we got in the thick of things. I'm sorry to have concerned you, but I do want to assure you that my full attention is on the task ahead." The Black Orchid is serious as she says this, but a smile of satisfaction then spreads across her face, and she says, "OK all, don't be alarmed, I'm going to try it again," and she repeats the process.

Marc
--------------------------------------------------------
"You go for it.  We've got about 5 minutes before we hit the point of no return.  When we're done with all of this, I'd be willing to help you look into your powers.  Maybe help you figure out new things you can do."  CX turns back to the screens and looks them over.  He lifts his data pad and pokes at the touch screen a bit.  He then pulls up the fusion engine's monitoring screen.  he then flips everything back to normal control screens.  "Keep your eyes open folks, we're getting close!"

DWayne
---------------------------------------------------------
OOC:  I had already responded but I'll do it again to be sure.

IC:  As the tanks approach the drop point, the vision begins to cloud hi mind.  He thinks to himself, "A clean slate...  a fresh start and respect....  I already have a clean slate!  'I" have already given myself a fresh start.  Respect must be earned!  My future is mine to create, you piss ant wannabe!  Get outta my head!!!"

Turning to the tank crew, "Alright folks, their playing mind games with us.  FOCUS!!!  Keep your eyes and ears open.  We're gonna burn our way to the Tower and open fire.  Watch out for ground troops.  Hopefully our actions will let the other tank get into position, unhindered!  We CAN DO THIS!!!"

DWayne
---------------------------------------------------------
Tom,

So sorry for the delay.  I don't have a clever response to write up so I offer this:

If Harvey succeeds is his saving throw, those near Elwood would hear him say, "Don't worry buddy. We'll win over everyone one person at a time."

If he fails the saving throw...  "Ok buddy.  You know I am with you all the way.  Let's make the world a better place.  If Cthulhu can make it possible, then we are very fortunate to have such a remarkable new friend."

I did purposefully mistype the devil's name as "Cthulu".  ;)
Either way is cool for me.

Sorry again for the delay.

Hey Pal, Here go

<Red Hawk IC: response to Cr’tegorf’s visions>
[To Red Hawk the vision offered a future where Freedom Eagle had created him. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.]

Chris’s android eyes are devoid of any emotion as he hears the strange voice. I don’t understand. Chris looks left and then right, to the others onboard the transport. “Bri … Condor? What was that? Is it … can it be true? Can he really do that? Can I become Freedom Eagle for real? Please say he can … please?

<Archer IC: response to Cr’tegorf’s visions>

[To Archer the vision offered to reunite him with his father, Enforcer. Enforcer would mourn with him the loss of his mother. Together they would team-up with Craftsman, Lightning Fist, and Kali to fight for right and justice. Exactly the life the monks and his mother had wanted for him. Archer would love his life of adventure with his new family. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.]

Sitting in the shadows of the M-5Q, his new bow ready for action the Archer waits. Meditating for the upcoming battle, Daniel was inside his Sanctuary, the place in his mind where he kept his true-self. Floating cross-legged in the darkness the one-time warrior-monk was lit only by the luminiscient pearl of his soul. No.

<DarkStar IC: response to Cr’tegorf’s visions>

[To DarkStar the vision offered a world where his dream had come true. To come true all he would have to do would be to put his faith and trust in Cr’tegorf.]

Guy's, I apologize for Adama's late response, and the briefness of it.

Adamas IC response: As the leaders filed out of the room, and Magus began to explain the plan, Adamas nodded thoughtfully...

As the magic attack began, Adamas saw the vision, and felt it's draw, at the same time, he saw the evil behind it, he'd lived this lie, and knew the truth.  If he gave in, this world would become a wasteland.  Dismissing the vision, and mentally thanking Dr. Arcane for closing the loophole that had left him susceptible to magic, he looked around at those around him... Magus again showed his mettle, warning the others of the attack.  Adamas nodded to his leader.

OOC: When the attack begins, Adamas will focus on the largest toughest opponents, trying to use his auto attacks and speed to the greatest advantage.  He throws himself into the battle with abandon, this is what he was created for.  He will try to keep an eye on his fellow team mates if they require assistance, but the main focus is on dealing damage to the opponents.  He will follow Magus lead if any changes are required.

Jon
