Location:
Hidden Tomb of Cor on Easter Island
Black Orchid kept holding onto the scythe and
evading to not get caught, but blasted the bad guy. The vacuum blast drained
the last of the energy from the Horror. Its armor destroyed, trapped, and
fatigued, the Horror dropped its pike in surrender.
The three Horrors crumbled to a fine powder
as they attempted to convert back to statues but were too damaged to do it
successfully.
The Guardians search the room. The room is
hemispherical, carved out of living rock. CX, Black Orchid, and Thunderhead
found a secret door to the south of the room. The dome was encrusted with
hundreds of small jewels.
Jack Frost recognized the jewels. They are
ancient magical gems from the reign of Cor. If a heat source was applied to a
jewel it would activate floating images and tell a story. Jack believed the
current phrase for this is “activate a video display”.
The ancient youth carelessly explained how the magic gems worked,
"When heated, they reveal visions," he yawned.
Brushing the remains of the Beetle warrior from
his hands, Adamas looked around at the team, ensuring everyone was there, and
evaluating what damage had been done. Assessing everyone was in pretty
good shape, he tried to get the group’s young leader aside, and laid a hand on
his shoulder, “I know a lot has been placed on your shoulders, and like myself,
you are relatively new to this world, but I have had experience with these
magics.”
“I was
created to battle these villains, and the tools they have created will corrupt
the user over time. I believe it was one of Earth’s philosophers that
said, ‘Those who play with the devil's toys will be brought by degrees to wield
his sword.’ I believe that to be the case here”, these words shared with a
gentle smile. “What you mean for good, could cause the wielder to fall
under the spell of evil, and that must not happen to this team. Let us
at the very least save this as a last resort.”
Happy that Adamas took up the matter
with Red Hawk that they not be seduced by the black powers of the Enemy,
Thunderhead was content to stay out of it for now, hoping Adamas could convince
Red Hawk where Thunderhead could not.
Red
Hawk listened attentively to the veteran adamantine avenger. "As you say
Adamas. Until the time becomes more dire than the moment then. We have been
successful so far ... I just ... I worry we are going to be in need of ...
something to tip the scales in our favor when we finally face into Cr’tgerof
and I can't help but think maybe Dr. Arcane chose me to lead because I am
willing to make the choice you might not."
Having
said his piece, Adamas wandered off to investigate these memory crystals…
perhaps they could find some useful information before opening the secret door
to their next adventure.
Starbolt landed close to the team’s leader and overheard Adamas'
conversation with him. When Adamas took his leave, He moved closer and said to
him, "I agree with Adamas, The lesser of two evils is still evil. Remember
who we are and that we will not let darkness claim our souls." changing
his tone to a more light-hearted one, he said "Dude, we have your back,
don't feel like this is all on you, and besides, I came here to kick ass and
chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum."
Looking
to his friend Starbolt "I too have no bubble gum my friend, can your 'ass
kicking' at least wait until we have examined Jack Frost’s crystals?"
He
replied to Red Hawk "Sure, No problem. You're the boss. I will stay back
until needed." Starbolt took flight and allowed the group to examine the
crystals without interruption.
The archaeological avatar was excited at the chance to experiment
with the ancient gem technology. When no one volunteered to heat them, he used his
weather powers, raising the air temperature in the gems' immediate vicinity
with his supernatural powers.
The first video displayed a scientific study on the effects of
crossbreeding Cor’s people with native hominids. The audio narration is
unintelligible, but from the pictures one can see that the genes of the
offspring mutate in unpredictable ways, causing a far more frequent occurrence
of superhuman abilities.
The
second video displayed Cr’tgerof melting and consuming a beautiful city, He was
gigantic!
The
third video displayed a panoramic view of a land of shallow glowing streams and
strange forests. In the center of the land floats a giant read ball, held aloft
by the force of a pulsating blue energy beam.
The video showed inhabiting this strange land
are hordes of demons of all sorts and armies of skeletal warriors. Thunderhead
was able to read the hieroglyphs above the image. It read ‘THE DEVIL’S DOMAIN’.
The fourth gem didn’t display a video. A blue
beam was projected from one gem and rebound around the room in a spectacular
fashion, finally outlining a hidden doorway they had found in the south of the
room.
Completely nonplussed by the
gems, he turned to their captive. The mercurial Jack grew stern in the instant
it took a snowflake to melt in your hand. ZING!!! The winter elemental suddenly formed an ice
cage around the captive with filigree detail etched across it.
His cold blue eyes glared through
the glacial bars into the creature's hideous face as he spat, "Well
'fellow guardian,' you are our prisoner now! Where is the gate? Are there
further protections cast around it? Tell us everything you know, leave nothing
out, and be quick about it or else face the same dire fate as your
minions!"
The
Demon Guardian met Jack Frost’s icy stare. The Gate of the Dimensions
and Cor’s Tomb is beyond. Cor’s Tomb has great magical protection. Only the
damned should enter it.
The Gate of the Dimensions’ first protection is
simply a key. Without the ‘Key to the Worlds Beyond’ the Gate is useless. The
Gate of the Dimensions will take you to what you are seeking. That is its last
protection.
Once
it stopped speaking, the Demon Defender looked to the floor. Any attempts made
by the Guardians would not result in convincing it to speak further.
CX
opened the hidden door and moved back into the Dome with the rest of the
Guardians.
