Location:
Jacco’s Village Hideout on Easter Island
Donnah said,
“Surrender Guardians, I don’t want to hurt you but I will” Two blasts of
hurricane force wind came from her hands. Thunderhead stood unmoved by the
hurricane blast. He was completely
unharmed. "Donnah, you can't hurt me. I am Thunderhead, avatar of the
Incan goddess of the storm. I am immune
to your elemental powers. But you know that already. It's why you chose to
attack me. You don't want to be here. You don't want us to surrender to the
tender mercies of these sadistic lunatics. Return to your loving grandfather,
child, before you do something you'll regret for the rest of your life."
Thunderhead spoke telepathically
to his team through his magic amulet: "Good work, Orchid. Jacco's Soul
Scythe can't absorb your attack.”
“Starbolt: your plan
almost worked! Let's try it again
please. What do you say?"
"Starbolt,
Black Orchid ... Thunderhead has the right of it.” Red Hawk thought, “We want
to keep the pressure on Jacco if we're going to get that Scythe ... Careful, Marutukku has raised a force
field. It's going to make getting most energy and kinetic based attacks through
tough as nails."
Thunderhead replied,
"You're right, Hawk. We need to
destroy the force field, or make them flee it, in order to get the Scythe...
our first objective.”
"How about
this? Orchid, can you fill the force field with darkness to see if we can get
them to voluntarily leave it? If that doesn't work, then we all attack the
force field as one. Once it's down, one
of us grabs the Scythe from Jacco.”
"These are just
suggestions," said the veteran of the Great War. "Anyone have other
ideas?"
Seeing the situation
unfold, CX communicated over the amulets with the team,
"I think I have
an option. I'll try to wrest the scythe
from his hands! Those that can, hammer
him until he turns loose of it!! Without
the scythe, we should be able to take him down.
If anyone has magnetism or telekinesis, they can help me!"
[43] Adamas fired 10 quick power blasts from
his eyes. The force field shimmered from the furious assault but held off the
attack. When Adamas was done the force field had been weakened but it was still
there.
[31] Centurion X attempted
to wrap up Nova-head-flame-guy-of-the week with the roof. He planned to let the
mass carry him to the ground. CX missed.
CX concentrated as much magnetic power he had
into grabbing the metal blade of the scythe.
He missed. He planned to continue trying until he had the scythe under
control and away from Jacco-Lantern
"Great work by
Adamas and CX ... Jack ... HEY JACK! Please join Adamas and CX and keep those
elemental goons out of the way for a while." Red Hawk thought.
"Jack Frost ...
It is time to choose winter spirit. If you are with us to defend Gaea, then we
could really use your help against that flying human bonfire coming toward
us."
Jack was loose once
more in the world. He'd never been on a south pacific island before and the
entire experience was incredible. Floral fragrances, salt air on a cool breeze,
bright sunshine, the roar of the surf, someone yammering inside his head about
a fight over something called the Soul Scythe?!?
Jack shook his head
but couldn't make the voices stop. Then he heard something that caught his
attention.
"Sorcerers?"
Jack thought. "Those selfish,
greedy meddlers of forces beyond their ken," he snarled. "They ruin
everything."
Jack flew on the
North Wind and zoomed toward the coven of warlocks, blasting ice at them as he
closed!
[25] He fired twin blast of ice striking the
force field hard. It wavered and shimmered but withstood the onslaught. The
Force Field was intact even though it had been greatly weakened.
[25] Sister Indigo fired a spirit bolt at
Black Orchid. Invisibility provided little benefit when trying to hide from
her. Sister Indigo received revelations and was aware on a cosmic level. Her
spirit bolt hit Black Orchid, who grunted in pain as she rolled with the
damage.
{GM
Note: Sister Indigo rolled a “1”, so I played up her cosmic awareness in the
flavor text but had nothing to do with the game mechanics. Sister Indigo’s
spirit bolt did 4 damage which Black Orchid rolled with all of it; -4 PP.}
[24] Starbolt added an arm
clamp connected to the leg clamps so that whoever grabbed for the scythe will
have an easier time since Jacco would have little to no arm movement and would
have to rely on only grip strength
{GM
Note: Special Attack requiring two successes. Starbolt rolled “3” on both 1d20
rolls. Now Jacco gets only his HtH dice and no damage modifiers and anyone
trying to grab will succeed on anything but a natural “20”. To take it from
Jacco then would require HtH vs HtH rolls. I am counting grabbing and pulling
away as 1 action the first time afterwards pulling away is its own action}
[23] Super Nova yelled at Centurion X,
“Trying the ‘Bring down the roof” won’t work with me! But I can roast a pig in
a blanket!” He fired dual flames blasts at CX. Both hit engulfing the
Metal-clad Magnetist.
{GM
Note: Flame Blast 1 did 11 damage points; -10 PP and -1 HP. Flame Blast 2 did
14 points of damage; -9 PP and -5 HP.}
[21] Conflagration said, “Time to melt the
Snowman”. He fired a flame blast at Jack Frost. He missed.
[20] The Black Orchid
ignored her attacker, or rather ignored the attacks and addressed the attacker,
"How did you find me?" The Black Orchid shrouded herself in close
fitting darkness to seem like she became visible. "Starbolt, drop me on
the force field." She pointed to Marutukku as she was falling, "Now
that you can see me, you are mine!" when she reached the edge, she stopped
but let the darkness image of The Black Orchid pass through and threaten
Marutukku.
[19] Jacco said, “I
had wondered what had happened to you after all these years, Powers. Still
wearing that Thunderhead costume I see."
Thunderhead said,
"Obituary. The years haven't been kind."
Jacco said, "I
left my Obituary moniker behind, but for old times’ sake I could use it again
this one time. So what is then? Thunderhead vs Obituary: Battle to Rule the
Earth!”
"No," said
Thunderhead without pleasure. "You'll never rule the Earth. You're a
victim; a pawn of higher powers that don't care whether you live or die.
"Rule the Earth?" Ha. You can't even govern yourself. But you still
insist on playing god. Let me show you something about godhood."
Thunderhead's eyes
sparked with lightning as his form began to grow until he was 24 feet tall!
The giant of justice
lifted up the heaviest thing he could find which was a stone monolith.
"Obituary,"
his voice echoed like thunder. "You're not just battling Thunderhead now.
You're battling the Guardians!" he said as he smashed the monolith down
hard on Marutukku’s force field! The field crumbled under the massive blow
struck by the Incan Incarnation. The force field had collapsed completely.
Red Hawk would curse
squid faced sorcerer if he knew how.
Marutukku's force field was going to have to be brought down if the team
was going to capture the Scythe Dr. Arcane had sent them to acquire. The
numbers are too even, and a surprise attack en masse failed, maybe an indirect
approach will have better luck. Chris only hoped Thunderhead was right about
his android body providing protection against Jacco's death touch.
Red Hawk silently
lowered himself into the fog and disappeared in its depths. Focusing his
thoughts on the amulet he communicates to the team. "Everyone be careful.
They have their own flyers but we still hold the advantage of maneuverability.
They're trying to use the fog to drive us toward their ground units. Get close
as you need but stay at range as long as possible. Do not let them outflank
you. I will try and move into position to wrest the Scythe from Jacco now the
force field goes down." Red Hawk glided through the ground lifting up a
few inches every couple meters to keep his bearings and take a peek in the
building the team is surrounding.
As Red Hawk was
traveling through the ground he realized that his feet felt no resistance. He
didn’t have to vibrate through solid substance. He looked down to see an
ancient chamber with stairs leading up to the roof. The roof would be the floor
of Jacco’s hut. There were ancient runes and markings on the floor. He saw that
there was a walk way into a hallway which had ancient hieroglyphics on the
walls.
[19] Red Hawk "ghosts"
through the ground to a position where he next to Jacco and unseen by the
others. Chris rose from the ground, became solid and tried to take the staff. He
successfully grabbed it when he tried to yank it out of Jacco’s grasp he was unable.
Both were fiercely clutching the Soul-Scythe, neither were able to pull it from
the other.
{GM
Note: Vibrations used to move through the ground had to be turned off to grab
solid matter. Vibration Defense is therefore off as well. Chris does not have
the ability to have only a portion of his body solid while the rest is vibrating.
That would take a level advancement. Once Red Hawk grabbed the Soul-Scythe then
it was HtH vs HtH roll between Chris and Jacco. Red Hawk’s HtH is 1d12+3. He
rolled resulted in “5”. Jacco also rolled a “5”. A tie}
[19] As Red Hawk was holding the Soul-Scythe
he heard a strong feminine voice in his head, “I am Emma Mulder of the FBI. You
need to contact the U.S. Gov’t. Let them know that Jacco has killed both me and
Agent Silva. You have to let them know our fate. You …”
“Forget that!” Another voice interrupted in
Chris mind, this time male with a British accent “You have to contact the Truth
Seeker Weekly. Let them know that Oliver Robert has the story of the century! I
have the inside scoop on collaborators with an Alien Dimension. They are
planning to invade Earth. I will share the by line with you!! You have to get my
story out!”
“Silence infidel!” This time a regal feminine
voice with a strong Chinese accent invaded his mind.”I am Xing Liang, Guardian
of the Soul Scythe. You must rescue it from this fiend. This ancient weapon is
supposed to protect the Earth, not bring about its doom. No demon, this world
or any other dimension, can stand before it. It will slay them all. You have to
free it from this evil fiend. I command you!!
“No, you have to tell my family … No my
partners must be warned … Don’t trust … Please free me from here … this is a
fate worse than death … Must warn the Chosen that the Magi of the Black Rose
have ….”
Red Hawk heard ten different voices in his
mind all crying for his attention, for his favor, to help them, to serve, for
freedom. He was nearly overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude and desperation of
their voices. Finally he asserted his will and calmed his mind forcing the
voices in the background. They were not gone but they had become background
noise while the music that Brian would play in the car when they would travel
together. As long as he focused on his own thoughts and maintain resolve they
were voices in the distance pleading/demanding his attention but he was in
control.
{Red
Hawk made a successful Charisma save to keep from being overwhelmed by the
Souls held within the Soul Scythe}
[19] Coriolis briefly considered Thunderheads
earlier words and instead of returning to her Grandfather she attacked him.
Again her wind blasts failed to harm him.
[17] Mother Superior swung her magical flail
at CX. “Time to open this can of tuna!” CX’s magnetic field turned away her
attack.
[17] Torrent launched a huge water formed
hand at the Incan Incarnation. She hit. The wave splashed on Thunderhead
without his showing any sign of noticing.
{GM
Note: 1 point of damage; -1 PP, Jeff if you would rather I reduce a HP instead
let me know.}
[17] Marutukku focused on the threat before
him that the Darkness shape of Black Orchid presented forgetting to put back up
his force field. SHKOW! Lightning
left his fingertips blasting the dark form into nothingness. The wicked
sorcerer said nothing, he only smiled.
[16] Jacco reached over with his free hand
grabbing Red Hawk by the arm that was holding onto the Soul Scythe. He smiled
as he started to feel Red Hawk’s life drain into him but then it stopped. “You
resisted my death touch for now but do not feel you are immune. You are made of
metal but you are not that different from a Golem made from clay. I can kill
them I can kill you too. Someone was able to give you life; I can take that
life away”
{GM
Note: Red Hawk made both saving rolls. I reviewed the rules there is nothing
that states Death Touch only works on human or biological forms. So I am ruling
that Jacco has a magical death touch that can kill anything currently alive
either by natural means or animated in some manner.}
[15] Lord Noman raised his wand above his
head and waved it three times. SHKOW!
A Lightning Bolt came down from the heavens above striking Red Hawk in the
chest.
{GM
Note: 4 damage points, -4 to Invulnerability}
[15] Quarry created a huge fist from the
ground. It rose on a long column stretching to hit Thunderhead. The massive
fist missed the Giant of Justice.
[1] Black Orchid fell from where she was on
the force field to the ground. She landed deftly on her feet in front of
Marutukku. She was still invisible.
{She
made her Agility saving roll}
{GM
Note: Red Hawk healed 4 HP using 2 PP to do so, and Black Orchid healed 2 HP
using 2 PP to do so. She is completely healed}
Please remember when you are calculating
range that the Flying PCs are 16” above ground. So for Quarry, Torrent, Lord
Noman, Jacco, and Marutukku who are on ground level a value of 16” has to be
added as well as the actual squares counted to determine whether they are in
range and for determining range penalties.

I really enjoyed reading the flow of the fight and the GM notes have become a great addition.
Have I ever mentioned what a pain in the posterior Supernova is? :-)
That guy is one of my favorite villains to hate right along with Leo and Nightstalker.
Dave we need to get Zeus up and running pal. Team is going to need Frosty before this thing is over. :-)
Great Issue Tom.
Thanks John

OOC: Great issue,

Marc: looks like
Jacco can't absorb Orchid's Devitalization damage. :-)
Jamey, Starbolt's
plan almost worked! Let's try it again please. Starbolt locks Jacco's legs down
again and Thunderhead will try to grab the scythe. What do you say?

Tom ... Does Red Hawk have the ability to use his Vibratory Powers as Carrier
addition to a Hand to Hand attack? If so great and if not I'd like to consider
as an upgrade at some point. :-) Thanks

John R

No carrier attack.
It would take a level advancement to do that.

Tom
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Tom. I
suspected as much but sounds like a potentially cool level advancement.
On a related note.
Can Starbolt dual-attack reinforce the shackles that are already there on Jacco
and use the second attack to flash or shoot him with a light attack? Similarly could Black Orchid use her Darkness
and Devitalization Ray on the same opponent? Just trying to get a feel for
potential options as we move along.
Thanks

Thunderhead:
OOC: Hi,
For consistency's
sake, I'm going to take my last OOC post and deliver it IC, since characters
are responding to it. :-)
Here goes:
IC:
Thunderhead spoke
telepathically to his team through his magic amulet: "Good work, Orchid.
Jacco's Soul Scythe can't absorb your attack.
Starbolt: your plan
almost worked! Let's try it again
please. What do you say?"
OOC: Insert existing
PC replies here. There. All tidied up. :-)
New IC:
Red Hawk said:
"Starbolt, Black Orchid ... Thunderhead has the right of it. We want to
keep the pressure on Jacco is we're going to get that Scythe ... Careful, Marutukku has raised a force
field. It's going to make getting most energy and kinetic based attacks through
tough as nails."
Thunderhead replied,
"You're right, Hawk. We need to
destroy the force field, or make them flee it, in order to get the Scythe...
our first objective.
"How about
this? Orchid, can you fill the force field with darkness to see if we can get
them to voluntarily leave it?
"If that
doesn't work, then we all attack the force field as one. Once it's down, one of us grabs the Scythe
from Jacco.
"These are just
suggestions," said the veteran of the Great War. "Anyone have other
ideas?"
OOC:
Everyone, here's
what he's proposing, in game terms.
-All PCs hold their
actions until Orchid goes. During which, we will each be attacked by our
current dance partners. That's the bad part. Now comes the good part:
-Orchid covers the
force field (or fills it) with darkness.
-If Jacco doesn't
flee the force field, then all of us, except two, attack it. (The two heroes that don't attack should be
Starbolt and the one of us with the best HTH chance to hit, and good strength.
Also, Orchid's not attacking the force field but I don't think she has a power
that can damage it)
-The combined attack
on the force field needs to be at close range, so we don't suffer the fog
penalty.
-The combined attack
should cripple the force field caster, and expose Jacco.
-Then Orchid drops
the darkness.
-Then Starbolt claps
Jacco's legs in irons.
-Then the one of us
who didn't attack the force field (our HTH expert) will grab the Scythe and
hopefully win a carrying capacity vs. carrying capacity contest with Jacco, to
wring it from his grip, thereby not triggering his Damage Absorption power.
See? Easy as
pie! ;-)
Seriously, if we
don't all pile on the force field it will take many turns for any one of us to
pierce it, dragging out this combat longer than need be.
Thoughts? Any other
ideas for how to proceed?
Thanks.
Best,
Jeff
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tom,
Would it be possible for Starbolt to add an
arm clamp connected to the leg clamps so that whomever grabs for the scythe
will have an easier time since Jacco would have little to no arm movement and
would have to rely on only grip strength.
Jeff,
Would this help or
hinder what you are trying to accomplish?
Jamey
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be a
special attack but it is possible.
Tom
------------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC:
Tom, were the leg shackles
a special attack?
Jeff
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes
Tom
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: Sounds good to
me, Jamey!
Everyone,
Who's our best HTH
fighter?
I bet it's not
Thunderhead. (He'd be good at damaging the force field.)
Anyone got natural
weaponry, heightened expertise or weakness detection?
Jeff
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Jeff
After perusing the
character sheets on the a Megalopolis site I think I have an answer to you
question.
Assuming I'm reading
the sheets right it looks like that without AA, DS or the Archer that
Thunderhead is our best hand to hand guy when at giant size right now. That +8
to hit 3d10 damage and all those hit points make him a hoss compared to others
on team at the moment. Adamas and Centurion X look like they're our new two
best with Starbolt and Red Hawk doing okay if they had to. The thing is all
four of those guys are probably much better off using their energy attacks
unless a situation really warrants.
Once again I could
be missing something, Tom is always better at this kind of detail analysis than
I am it seems so by all means anyone see something I missed speak up.
Okay now my
question. What's cogitating in that big brain Jeff? :-)
Regards
John R
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: Thanks. :-)
Just looking for the hero with the best
"to hit" chance at HTH to be the one to try to grab the Scythe after
we knock down the force field.
Best
Jeff
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cool Jeff. If we are
just looking for the best "to hit" HtH then Red Hawk might be our
best bet. RH has a +7 in HtH. If I read right (?) TH needs to be giant size to
be at his best and as you mention we need him to keep Jacco's attention and get
the bad guys to drop the force field before we can make a play for the
John
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds good.
Anyone else want to
pile on the force field this turn?
Any other battle
plan ideas?
Best
Jeff
------------------------------------------------------------------------
As bad as Adamas
wants to pound Super Nova... he'll autofire on the force field as well...
Aiming at Jocco, in case we do break through.
Jon
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jon,
Please let me know
if you want to do something different that 10 shots of autofire (which has
become my default number of blasts. I don't feel comfortable taking more than
10 Power Points at a time from Adamas unless you tell me specifically)
Thanks
Tom
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
10 is good. Thanks
Jon
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Black Orchid
ignores her attacker, or rather ignores the attacks and addresses the attacker,
"How did you find me?" The Black Orchid will then shroud herself in
close fitting darkness to seem like she became visible. "Starbolt, drop me
on the force field." She then points to Marutukku as she is falling,
"Now that you can see me, you are mine!" when she reaches the edge,
she'll stop but (hopefully) let the darkness image of The Black Orchid pass
through and threaten Marutukku.

field as soon as he can.

"Obituary,"
his voice echoed like thunder. "You're not just battling Thunderhead now.
You're battling the Guardians!" he said as he smashed the monolith(s) down
hard on Marutukku!
OOC:
If-then statements:
1) If Jacco is still
in the force field with the Scythe when Thundy acts, then:
Movement: Grow
larger, pick up a brawling weapon, and close with Jacco/ Marutukku.
Attack: Use the
brawling weapon on the force field caster.
If the force field
is destroyed, Thunderhead will thought-send: "The Scythe is all yours, Red
Hawk!"
Goal: Destroy the force
field so someone can grab the Scythe.
2) If Jacco is out
of the force field with the Scythe, when Thundy acts, then:
Thundy will still
make the same moving speech, up until: "You can't even govern
yourself."
But then he'll
continue with: "Now give me that, before you hurt someone."
Thundy won't grow in
size.
He'll stay human
sized, and use his action to grab the Scythe and wrest it from Jacco's hands.
Goal: Grab the
Scythe!
3) If a hero has the
Scythe by the time Thundy acts, then:
Thundy will salvage
what he can of his impressive speechifying and:
Attack: Blast Jacco
with a lightning bolt.(or another villain if Jacco is unconscious (not
Donnah!))
Movement: grab
whatever hero has the Scythe and fly straight up, 2000 feet.
Goal: Escape with
the Scythe, to regroup and plot stage two: locating the Gate.
4) If a villain
other than Jacco has the Scythe when Thundy goes, then:
Use options 1 or 2,
substituting "the villain" for "Jacco."
Hope that's clear,
and legal. :-)
Thanks for
everything, Tom.
Best,
Jeff

company scheduled back to back major installations in our distribution center. I have been straight out. Thank you Thom, for filling in for me. I really appreciate keeping CX in the
loop! Hopefully I'm not too late to post
up.
IC: Seeing the situation unfold, CX communicates
over the amulets with the team,
"I think I have
an option. I'll try to wrest the scythe
from his hands! Those that can, hammer
him until he turns loose of it!! Without
the scythe, we should be able to take him down.
If anyone has magnetism or telekinesis, they can help me!"
Dual action:
#1 Attempt to wrap
up Nova-head-flame-guy-of-the week and let the mass carry him to the
ground. If CX misses, he just misses.
#2 Concentrate as
much magnetic power into grabbing the metal blade of the scythe. Once he has it, he will pull it up and away
from Jacco. If CX Misses, he will
continue trying until he has the scythe under control and away from
Jacco-Lantern :)

If for some reason I
can't dual action, then he'll just drop the remnants of the roof and go for the
scythe... :D

In response to
Centurion X declared Action. Red Hawk will continue to hold his own Action as
stated previously, but the moment it is apparent CX has succeeded to wrest
control of the Scythe from Obituary aka Jacco, he will then use his Action to
intervene to defend a teammate if the opportunity still exist. If those
opportunities no longer exist he will attempt a headshot of he has surprised
any of the bad guys by getting behind them with his Dual Attack. If that
doesn't exist he will continue to hold his action until next Turn.
Thanks

Zeus
I know you were
having trouble with your computer. Are you still?
If you don't have
time or don't want to play, that is fine. It is only a game between email
friends. No hard feelings if you don't have time or it isn't a style of gaming
you like.
I plan on having
Jack attack this turn, if that is okay with you.
Thanks
Tom

I was hoping it
would help with my game withdrawals, but I miss the human interaction of table
top. Add to that the fact that I am now babysitting 2 grand-kids. Well Thanks
for the opportunity and if it's OK i would still like to receive the stories
when you put them together. Its good reading, but I will have to bow out.

No problem. I
understand it is no replacement for face to face. I will be glad to keep
sending them to you.
There is a chance
that Jeff will take over playing "his" Jack Frost in place of yours.
I hope that doesn't bother you.
Best
Tom

Jeff has agreed to
bring his Jack Frost character from Empire City (Protectors) game and continue
playing him. He will play Thunderhead for the rest of the adventure too.
Thanks for helping
solve this problem.

Hi,
Here's the sheet
from Dom's game. Can I please use this,
if I add the weakness about binding?
8 hit points is not
a lot for a guy with no Ice Armor. :-)
Here's his action. I
assume he has a team amulet?
Jack was loose once
more in the world. He'd never been on a south pacific island before and the
entire experience was incredible. Floral fragrances, salt air on a cool breeze,
bright sunshine, the roar of the surf, someone yammering inside his head about
a fight over something called the Soul Scythe?!?
Jack shook his head
but couldn't make the voices stop. Then he heard something that caught his
attention.
"Sorcerers?"
Jack thought. "Those selfish,
greedy meddlers of forces beyond their ken," he snarled. "They ruin
everything."
Jack flew on the
North Wind and zoomed toward the coven of warlocks, blasting ice at them as he
closed!
OOC:
Move: Fly to get
close to the force field.
Attack: Double attack
with ice blast at the Scythe-wielding wizard in the force field (Jacco). If the force field is present when Jack
attacks it, he won't want ice to accumulate on it.
Thanks,
Jeff
