Location:
US Military Transport en-route from Stonehenge, England to USA.
Thunderhead
slept on the passage across the Atlantic Ocean. He had been without rest since
he first met Nomad and Agent America.
As
the troop transport made its final approach into Megalopolis, Thunderhead woke
up, peered sleepily out the window and was awestruck. The city of his birth now
looked like something out of a Buck Rogers comic strip. "But wait... No
jetpacks?" His eyes sought out all the old landmarks he knew,
and ended on the Foundry. His little sister would be 112 years old if she still
lived. "Did her children live in the Foundry today? Or her children's
children?"
Adamas
spoke to DarkStar. "My friend, I am truly weaker than I had
realized, if you could see to it to take me to the Space Station to
recuperate. I think they'd be better suited to deal with my physiology,
and I do not wish to tax the good doctor with my infirmity. I know the weight
of the world is resting on his shoulders right now."
Once
they arrived at the space station, and Adamas was resting, he grasped his
friend’s hand, "One more favor I would ask..."
**WHOUMP**
DarkStar glanced around the foyer of WCTV News
Station. One of the two guards sitting nearby fell out of his chair at
the sudden appearance of the large blue giant, the other dropped the drink he
had in his hand, reaching for his Taser, but stopped mid-action as DarkStar
turned his gaze upon them.
The
receptionist stared up at DarkStar, who seemed to fill the entire room, and
swallowed her gum, chocking a little; she managed to get out... Jessica... 23rd
floor...
**WHOUMP**
And
he's gone.
When
Adamas next awakened, he heard a heated conversation taking place, "How do
you even know this will work," he immediately identified Jessica's
voice."
"We've
been over the math, and studied his DNA. We are quite certain it is
already working. Ms Anderson, I know we're not medical doctors, but we
are both experts in our fields, and this is what we know.” Black Orchid
stood her ground as the reporter launched into what gave them the right to try
out there "experimental" medicine on someone whose physiology was
like none other on Earth. “Do you even know where he comes from?"
she asked.
The
Black Orchid had been in situations like this before...people questioning her
work, her motives. Back then she caved a bit, even believed them when her
better judgment told her she was right, but not this time. "..and if you
would kindly wait a moment,... I believe,..." she stared intently at the
screen, "I'm monitoring Adamas' energy metabolism and cellular regrowth
levels... and now I'm adjusting the sequence identification feedback loop... of
my immediate return PCR amplification synthesizer... using ideas from my friend
Centurion X here."
Centurion
X who had already been pushed from the room by the diminutive reporter responded,
"We're not relying on his physiology here, we're adopting science to help
him do what he does naturally. The distribution method I've come up with
allows the medication to be administered intravenously, something the doctors
here would have been unable to accomplish without our help."
The
Black Orchid didn't skip a beat, working feverishly, almost instinctively,
explaining her process with the same level of nonchalance as someone explaining
how to make toast. "The synthesizer identifies key DNA sequences
needed to replicate the unique components from my blood, the components which
allow me to heal at a faster rate than most people...and then maps the
sequences to DNA corollaries in Adamas' alien physiology without stressing
him too badly... There, you see," The Black Orchid flipped her hand
triumphantly. "...it's working! His energy levels are increasing and
cellular damage is repairing at a greatly accelerated rate." Her
ebullience was tempered by the sweat on her brow, revealing the intense amount
of concentration and effort The Black Orchid used to make sure her equipment
worked as she promised.
Centurion X listened as Black Orchid explained the process. He realized that she wasn't really talking to him, but he was happy to listen. He could truly appreciate someone crafting with their own knowledge to wholly create something new. The success was just icing on the cake.
She
leaned back and said with a smile, "Centurion X, I think we did it!"
as she held her hand up for a high five, but deep in her heart she knew that
she got lucky and this was probably a one-time deal.
CX
gave Orchid the high five she was looking for! "That is fantastic!
It is a joy to watch you work. Exhilarating, isn't it? I'm
just glad we could help get him back on his feet. We're going to need
him."
"What
is going on here?" Adamas asked. His voice did not sound tired, or
weak, but as if nothing had happened.
Jessica
turned and ran to the bedside, laying her hand on his forehead, touching his
arm, his chest, tears in her eyes. She turned back to the dynamic duo...
"I'm sorry, thank you. And You, she turns... you said you'd be
careful...” her voice dropped off, any attempt at anger failing, she bent over
the bed, laying her head against his chest tears of relief soaked his hospital
gown.
Black
Orchid and CX silently slipped out of the room.
DarkStar
joined them as they walked down the corridor, Black Orchid said, "I had no
idea all this was on a Space Station." She looked around in wonder.
"Again, thank you Centurion X, for helping me.” After hours of
concentrating and hard work, it had become obvious that Adamas was in recovery.
The Black Orchid for hours a model of concentration and fortitude, finally
relaxed and took the luxury of looking both pleased and relieved. "Well
DarkStar, I think I'm ready for that drink now. Centurion X, I'm buying!"
DarkStar
smiled, “I know the perfect place”
**WHOUMP**
After
several rounds of drinks and DarkStar sharing his experiences in the Domain,
Centurion X was back in his personal lab. With the last panel snapped into
place, CX began running systems checks of his armor. This version of the
armor was a bit larger than his normal suit but it would function normally
within the Domain. At least he was fairly sure it would. Based on Dark
Star's report of the technical functioning level within the Domain, everything
should work. Watching the computer screens run the checks seemed very
odd. He was going to miss the HUD during the journey into the Domain.
Each system had its own computer and separate controls. It was an
inefficient way of doing things but it would work much better than a choked off
suit. Several hours passed by as he made all of the checks and minor
adjustments to the suit's systems. All said and done, he removed the
armor and stood it in its alcove next to his normal armor.
He
sat down at the desk and poured himself a whiskey double shot. His mind
was a jumble of the latest round of dressing downs he had received since the
battle. He had never realized that this side of the coin functioned like
this. The responsibilities were heavier than he had imagined.
Thoughts of his old ways glimmered at the edges of his mind. His
conviction hung in the balance between the sins of the present and the sins of
the past. He swallowed the double shot and started to pour himself
another when he stopped. Resealing the bottle, he placed it back on the
desk. Lifting his tablet he wrote a reply to Mr. Vlasov, Director of
MEDUSA.
Mr. Vlasov,
Though I can appreciate your
predicament, DeBrandt Industries is not going to pay for a redesign of the
'Fusion Tank'. Since MEDUSA requested a Fusion Tank for its operations,
DBI has provided a system within the design specifications requested by MEDUSA.
If you will also refer to the Scope of Work Schedule 12 Subsection 13
Heading: Caveats and Warning, paragraph 9a.
"Using a fusion power source in
a transportation/weapons system is vastly safer than one utilizing a fission
core. However, it is the recommendation of DBI that an alternative power
source be chosen as there is a small chance of a critical and possibly
explosive result. All precautions will be take to secure the power core
from said occurrences but there is no guarantee expressed or implied that this
situation can or will be avoided."
As you can see, DBI is not
responsible or culpable for the destruction of the prototype tank, in question.
I can only assume that your field officers must have pushed the sign off
on the system without regard to this possible outcome. Centurion X is an
accomplished person within his own rights. It is only that he had access
to the systems override codes and his own technical expertise that he was able
to accomplish the over load of the fusion tank's core. I have a much
safer alternative to the fusion reactor that can be utilize to upgrade the
designs of the tanks. This system is much more expensive and proprietary
to DBI. If you wish to alter the designs of your requested 'fusion tank',
I will have the necessary non-disclosure agreements sent to your office.
On the matter of Centurion X's
employment with DBI. Having read Centurion X's report and reports that
you have forwarded me on this matter, it has become apparent that Centurion X
acted with the best interest of the entire planet, at heart. Apparently a
good number of your so called heroes had defected to the invader's side.
Several people were barking orders because no one seemed to be listening.
It was not until after the explosion and the intervention of Dark Star
did a central command assert itself. Not knowing who friend or enemy
were, having no single command structure, Centurion X made a decision to attempt
to end the conflict with a single drastic measure. Before you send an
army of super powered soldiers out on the field again, I suggest that you
inform them of exactly who and what their command structure is and sounds like.
I regret that the destruction of Stonehenge occurred. But with an extreme
lack of leadership, increased casualties should be expected. It was a
site of vast historical significance, but it was sacrificed for the salvation
of the people of our world therefore, it was a small price to pay. The
reports also state that immediately following the explosion of the fusion tank,
many of the Domain's undead servants turned on their masters. This gave
our forces the opportunity to get into the tower and get the job done.
All in all, it seems like it had a beneficial effect on the battlefield
after all. It is also the policy of DBI to not allow any member of the
bureaucracy to dictate who can or cannot work for MY company. The moment
any appointed official can dictate to company who it can employ, then that is
moment that free enterprise and the right to freedom in our great country ends.
Simply put, Centurion X's employment status is none of your concern
unless you are trying to recruit him into your own employ. Until such a
time, please refrain from interfering with the employment policies of DBI.
Thank you for your communication and
cooperation in these matters.
ADB
With
that done, he sends a memo to his legal department and financial division.
Due to our involvement in the Stonehenge Incident, I
would like to create a foundation to fund any restoration or historical work
involving the site. Supply the foundation with $25,000,000 in starter
funds. I will be personally matching the amount. Make it legal, staff
it with the best people and make it happen. I want this seen as it is, a
tragic event caused by an invading force of aliens.
Thank you. ADB
Slumping
back into his leather office chair, he says quietly, "At least the
Guardians will still have me... for now."
General Samuel wanted a debriefing from
Commander Rose on the deviation from the battle plan. DarkStar teleported to
CHESS headquarters with Cybil floating inches above his right shoulder. After
having spent a few days at Sarrisa's, healing from his injuries, Joshua had
promised General Samuel an After Action Report once he had finished personal
business helping get a friend settled into her new home. The gruff old
commander of the Super Forces mumbled something about shameless womanizer
before agreeing to meet at CHESS HQ.
Commander Rose gave a straight forward report of the battle from his perspective, including the information he had learned later from others on the flight back to the States. " ... as far as where things slid sideways General, best I could tell was when DeBrandt's golden boy decided to turn his masters 100 ton tank into a makeshift nuke in an attempt to knockout the tower. A lot of heroes went down with villains in that blast. He underestimated the Domain's technology and strength of the force field surrounding the tower. Personally I can't fault his enthusiasm, and leadership on the field went to hell in a hand basket after that devil turned a number of our own against us ... maybe even before then, but the boy needs a real mentor before someone approves his Hero License." Done with his own report he asked for and had Cybil record any information the Super-Forces other hero teams around the earth and in space had to report.
Joshua had Cybil download as much of an electronic account of the battlefield events as possible along with information of the hero and villains that were either killed or missing in action. Joshua left the government building as convinced as ever that he could never trust the government to provide the proper leadership, Intel, or resources when it came to meta-human activities. Even though constantly feeling out of his depth, he would be glad to see Adamas and start their next mission at his next stop ... Dr. Avery's mansion. "Once more into the breach."

General Samuel picked up his phone. He called CHESS Deputy Director Huffington. “Hello, Deputy Director. I have concluded my out briefs. You and Director Gaunt were wrong. Clearly these ‘Metas’ can’t lead themselves. I am concluding this CHESS operation was a mitigated disaster. Once again they have proven that power doesn’t translate into leadership. I am as convinced as ever that we can’t trust ‘Metas’ to provide proper leadership. Good day, Deputy Director”.
After he hung up the phone, he signaled for
his staff assistant to show Director Vlasov into his office. After the Director
of MEDUSA had position his wheel chair in place, the staff assistant shut the
door and turn on all the anti-surveillance measures within the General’s
office.
“So Samuels, have you had a chance to read
the letter I forwarded you from DBI?”
“Yes, Vlasov I have. DeBrandt has a point
about it being his company and it is his choice about whether or not Centurion
X will remain in his employee or not. “
General Samuels smiled, “Now that I have
revoked all of Centurion X’s security clearances and my procurement officers
has raised every DBI government contract to ‘Special Access” clearance or
higher. I am sure Centurion X will enjoy being employed to clean the parking
lot.”
They both laughed.
General Samuels continued. “We have offered
second source contracts to replace the tank engine with Manning Enterprises,
Vanguard Incorporated and StarCorp to bid on. No proprietary rights allowed in
bid. We will see if DBI maintains their position with the loss of critical part
of the contract scope.”
“I have a meeting schedule later this week
with Senator Bennet to let him know we are halting development and production
of the tank. DBI’s refusal to invest in the program and current budget
constraints means we will have to ask for the additional funding in next year’s
budget appropriations.”
“I will tell him that the Senator will have
to get with DBI to find out how many voters … I mean engineers and factory
worker will be laid off with this shutdown. Tsk, tsk … and he is up for
reelection at the end of this year. We know how much his campaign was counting
on these contracts to show that the Senator knows how to stimulate the local
economy.”
They both laughed.
Vlasov spoke next. “I have reached out to all
my congressional contacts. As soon as the Domain threat is eliminated they are
ready to hold hearings on the Super-Task Force actions in England. The
Government Accounting Office (GAO) will begin their audits to make sure DBI was
abiding by the ‘Buy American’ Act and all the employee citizenship verification
and documentation requirements are being met.”
“The Defense Contract Management Agency
(DCMA) will reassign all the quality inspectors at DBI to Iceland. They have a
hand pick crew which will be brought on board. A complete government property
audit will be performed.”
They both laughed.
Then they both stopped laughing. “General
Samuels, what are we going to do about Director Gaunt?”
“I don’t know, Vlasov. Gaunt just won’t listen
to reason. Based on Commander Joshua Rose’s recommendation I offered both The
Commander or Semper Fi to mentor Centurion X. He wouldn’t allow it. He said it
came too close to conscripting him either into the Super Forces or MEDUSA.”
“I told him that is exactly what we had in
mind!”
“What are we waiting for Samuels, with all
the complaints from England about CHESS’s failure, I have the President ready
to submit the changes to the ‘Superheroism Accommodation Act’ to allow us to
draft them into service in times of National need.”
“I know but the timing isn’t right. Both
Deputy Direct Huffington and Director Gaunt will oppose it. Vlasov, while we
can point to how the CHESS operation was a complete failure from a leadership
point of view. They were still able to stop the completion of the Anti-Matter
Vacuum Tower.”
“While leaderless, they were able to
accomplish something the Super Forces and MEDUSA hasn’t. The planets that they
went to have Towers that are still operational”
Agreeing to bide their time, they parted.
There were still more reports to generate and briefings to provide.
Dr.
Avery's old fashioned home was comforting and familiar to Thunderhead. The time
traveler drank in the old paintings, books and antiques with a wistful smile as
he walked toward the library.
Adamas
returned knowing what must happen next. His gaze passed through the
mansion, taking in the gathered heroes, as he landed on the Balcony outside Dr.
Avery’s room. He thought to Pietor, and the doors open before him.
Adamas joined the team aside the Doctor’s bed.
Pietor
excused himself. “I have two future members to bring to the mansion.” Pietor
opened a teleportation portal and left.
Adamas
listened to the plan for the Domain attack, and saw the possibility of
success. He has now seen what these heroes can do, and agreed, this is
the team to do it… not an army, but a strike team. “They will not know
what hit them he said confidently.”
Elsewhere in a different part of Megalopolis;
Red Hawk stepped through
the portal with the blue and grey clad Archer as the white-haired man led them
through its shimmering surface.
Joshua was standing at the side of Dr. Avery's bedside with Donnah and Adamas. The old man looked frail, even for him. Still he was a pillar of strength as he forged on explaining the injuries Magus and Cure had incurred due to the Battle of Stonehenge. Joshua thought to himself. “The Crusaders have disassembled, the Chosen can barely stem the tide here in Hallowed Hills, what is left of the Guardians is an eclectic mix of what is left from Stonehenge . . . and Adamas looks like he might be suffering his own inner demons as we prepare to return to the Domain. He's always been the best of us though; he'll be here when he is needed, as always.
Matter
of fact the assembly Doc has down stairs might be the strongest the team has
ever been. CX and Orchid are geniuses in there in own fields. Thunderbolt might
be from the past, but his great power and special knowledge will be invaluable.
Adamas, CX, and Starbolt make a formidable air wing in support of the
stealthier Orchid, Archer and Red Hawk. Yes, this team has great flexibility
and power. If only they can come together better than we did before Juompur.”
Adamas
left the room, followed by Donnah, DarkStar stayed behind.
As
the Guardians were leaving the bedroom to join the others in the library, Dr
Avery called to Joshua. He motioned for Joshua to stay after the others. “We
are almost done, ‘cough’,’cough’, on our glorious adventure. We will have
protected the Earth when no others even saw the threat. I have one last request
from you, Joshua. When Dr Arcane is done introducing the new members and
explaining the significance of our quest, please do now talk too badly after my
astral projection disappears. I just don’t have the strength to take another
trip to the mountain top with you.” He said with a wink and a smile.
Joshua
placed a gentle cerulean hand on his old mentor's shoulder. Looking down his
eyes can't express enough of the love he felt for the man. He had become the
father Joshua had never had as a child and it pained him to his core what he
had to say next. "You and Hannah are a family I never thought to have Doc.
I hope you won't be disappointed in where I feel I need to go next . . . CX
might be an impetuous hero-in-training but he was right about one thing. This
fight needs leadership."
"We
both know CHESS botched the Stonehenge operation. We lost too many heroes to
say we were lucky. It was a near thing. Earth's defense forces need ... deserve
better leadership than they have gotten. I'm going to stay here and organize
and support the heroes still fighting here on Earth. Brandt and StarCorp
working together with the special knowledge of the enemy I brought back from
the Domain last time might be the edge we need to destroy or push the demons
back into their own realm. I will miss fighting at his side but Adamas can
handle the minions of Cr'tegorf. I'm confident he ... or one of the others will
be exactly what we need to capture the Scythe and finish the Quest.
Smiling
as he remembered the day atop Mount Everest. "I'll make you a deal Doc. If
you explain to the others why I'm staying, I'll take you Sarrisa's beach resort
when this all over ... It's a magical place."
Joshua
left to join the others in the library.
As
Starbolt and Black Orchid arrived Centurion X greeted them. He carefully
shook their hands.
"Starbolt, good to see you again. I hope
your recovery was swift."
Starbolt nodded that it had been.
"Black Orchid, how have you been? I was
glad to see our project went well and Adamas made a full recovery. I know
most of his wounds were my fault, so anything I could do to help was small in
comparison. Have you been well since I saw you last?"
"Why
yes, Centurion X I have, and thank you." The Black Orchid warmly shook his
hand. "As to it being your fault, I'll say it again that it could have
been anybody, but I certainly did appreciate your help. Let's see where we're
going today."
Activating
his enhanced sensors as Pietor, Red Hawk, and the Archer stepped onto the
beautifully tiled deck surrounding a crystal clear pool at their sides; Chris
sensed not only a series of unknown energies flowing through the mansion
grounds, but the weight of the newly designed uniform Brian and Dennis had
brought to him at StarCorp the night before.”It
is so close to the uniform of the man who inspired generations of
heroes. Brian and Dennis say I'm ready ... that I earned the right at
Stonehenge to follow in his footsteps ... that of any of us I am the one who
has been given the abilities to carry his standard and it is time to make it my
own. I hope so.”
Entering the French doors behind the white-haired traveler, Red Hawk watched as the Archer somehow almost seemed to disappear into the shadows of the well lit library. The brightly clad Centurion X was eagerly greeting the others who have seemed to arrive before he and the Archer. Chris patiently waited, almost missing the seemingly ever elusive Black Orchid. “Even my advanced sensors have problems picking her up and I doubt she's even trying to hide herself.”
"Greetings
Black Orchid, I see you have also answered the doctor's call. I was told the
original members of the doctor's team were gathered together in similar fashion
a couple years ago."
Black
Orchid replied. "I haven't been a member of any superhero team before, but
I'm glad to have been invited to join now, especially with a number of the
other heroes out of commission. I am now a Bishop of CHESS and have full
approval to be on missions such as this."
"I have also never been a member of a group before as well.
Black Orchid." Starbolt replied, "But, I am here to help in any way
necessary."
Red
Hawk smiled and warmly congratulated Black Orchid on her elevation to Bishop.
From one of the libraries slim shadows Archer whispered just loud enough for
her to hear " ... If I may ask, what of Bishop Prince? Or is it merely
there are two Bishops back on the field on play?"
I
honestly don't know." The Black orchid shrugged slightly, "I was
given no indication that Bishop Prince was no longer continuing his activities,
so I guess there are two now."
After
carefully listening to her reply, Red Hawk looked to red and blue hero to
Orchid's left and smiled at his battle companion from Stonehenge.
"Ready to do it again Starbolt?”
Extending his hand to Red Hawk, The Stellar-Powered Sentinel said,
"Good to see you here buddy, I really appreciate the coordinated attack we
laid on the demons from the Domain."
“We
didn't do so bad making our way through that Tower did we? With you setting
them up with your light powers and me getting lucky enough to knock a few
out along the way.” Chris said.
Entering
the library Adamas saw the gathered heroes, “Can I lead them,” he thought to himself “… I must”. Then DarkStar and Doctor Arcane appeared.
After they had a chance for small talk, the host of the event seemed to just appear in the center of the room. Instinctively, CX activated his defenses and took a defensive posture. Seeing that the sudden appearance was none other than their host, he powered down and resumed a more casual posture.
"Good evening. Dr. Arcane, I
presume?"
As
Red Hawk was about to introduce himself to the Centurion when he detected a
'ripple' in the air and the image of Dr. Arcane appeared in the library. Red
Hawk just as suddenly sensed the golden adventurer's armor powering up and was
about to react when just as suddenly it powered down and the man resumed a more
casual posture. Leaning in Chris whispered "Can't blame you there.
Could use a bit more warning myself next time”.
“Yeah,
a little warning would go a long way." CX whispered
“Welcome all.
Thank you for answering my invitation.
I have need of adventurers to help save our world. Artifacts of great strength were being sought
out by villains.” With a wave of his
hand, images appear around him and start orbiting. Looking at them it is easy to identify what
they are by shape but not their significance.
There are 6 objects: 5 scrolls, 1 scythe, 1 gemstone, 1 Orb, 1 statue of
a serpent or dragon, and a Cloak.
“The Guardians have retrieved all of them but
one. I would retrieve it myself but my power is waning and I must conserve
it. Where in the past I would travel
with you, alas I cannot but I will guide you.
Here take these”
“I have already given one to each of the
Guardians. These are for you.”
Suddenly appearing before each of you was an
amulet on a chain and it was floating. “Put it on. The amulet and chain are enchanted. It will stay with you and no one can take it
from you unless you will it. It will
disappear from sight if you desire. It
will provide you access past the wards and protections on the house. I and the Guardians will be able to speak
with you whenever needed.”
“We have to prepare to retrieve the last
artifact but first I need appoint a new team leader.” A magical beam appeared
from the gem holding Dr. Arcane’s cloak. The beam engulfed DarkStar and Adamas.
Neither of them was harmed.
Most would expect the choice to be the
Guardian with the most experience or physical process. That is not why Agent
America or Magus was selected. They both contained an inner strength needed to
resist the traps of the Domain.
“While DarkStar does have internal fortitude,
he does not have what is needed. In fact, his dependence on this dimension’s
sunlight to heal is why he will not going you on your next mission. He will
still have his amulet so he will be able to offer advice and guidance.”
“Adamas too is missing what is needed. His
valor and strength, as well as knowledge of the Domain make him as excellent
assistant leader. He will function as second in command.”
The magical beam focused on both Starbolt and
Centurion X bathing them in its glow.
“Starbolt while young has great heroism
within him but he does not have what I seek”
“Centurion X while your path has been wrought
with mistakes you are on a path destined for honor and greatness. Unfortunately
you do not have what is required either.”
The magical beam focused on the shadows where
the Archer was standing.
“Ah, this one has what I am looking forward
but he is not prepared to step into the light”
The magical beam focused on Thunderhead.
“So you are indeed the man I had heard of in
my youth. It seems I am not the only one that the Domain has altered time for.
While the Guardians need your prowess you are not the leader that is needed”.
The magical beam focused on Black Orchid.
“You do have what is needed. Will you lead the Guardians?”
"I'm
not leadership material for a band of heroes, at least not yet. Also, my record
for leading things is a little spotty." The Black Orchid's seemed to go
somewhere else, to a different time, and then she immediately snapped back.
"But I am more than happy to be a right hand and will support whoever is
chosen."
Dr. Arcane gave a nod of understanding.
The magical beam fell on the last new member,
Red Hawk.
“Interesting, this one has the potential.
While young and inexperienced, he has something old hidden within him. He does
not contain the essence of Freedom Eagle like Shatterman does but there is some
kind of memory.”
“Joshua, I can’t tell what it is because it
not a force of the world but something man has created through science. Would
you please investigate?”
DarkStar agreed.
**WHOUMP**
While we wait for them to return, Pietor
please provide some refreshment. Donnah will you see to our guests needs. As
they turned to follow they saw, for the first time for some, that she was made
completely out of wind.
**WHOUMP**
"Lights on."
The darkness slowly gives way to the soft
glow of light emanating from recessed panels in the ceiling overhead. Moving
his massive cerulean frame with the same agility he had as a college athlete,
Joshua began activating the banks of super computers along one wall of his
private work space. Buried another three hundred feet below StarCorp's level
three sub-basement, Rose's personal laboratory and manufacturing facility could
only be reached via teleport, and woe the meta who did not it's exact location.
DarkStar with the aid of Cybil
hacked into Red Hawk's central processing units. He discovered that CyberDoom
had stolen the MEDUSA tactical simulator code for Freedom Eagle. Joshua enabled
Red Hawk to access the tactical simulator code. He now knew how Freedom Eagle
fought and how to lead a team of superheroes in combat. Chris Eagle now had the
ability to setup firewalls against mental and emotional attacks.
Joshua waved Red Hawk to follow him.
"First we have one more thing to do before returning to our friends
above." At the back of the lab Joshua flipped the latches of a ceramic
container the size of a fifty-five gallon drum and opened the hatch. Inside the
container was a translucent yellow fluid. There was an immersion tank next to
it that the drum could easily be poured in by someone with DarkStar’s strength.
"It's Saturday
night and time for a bath Chris. We are going to use multiple coats from
this material to create a shielding for your ‘skin’. It will wear off in time,
but for the near future you will be able to enter the Domain." An hour
later DarkStar had completed the process of applying the shielding to Red Hawk.
"Lights out."
**WHOUMP**
With their return, Dr Arcane focused magical
beam on Red Hawk. “Thank you Joshua, Red Hawk now has what I seek.”
Dr Arcane spoke to the rest of the Guardians.
“To lead this team into the Domain, you need not a leader of great experience
or charisma. You need one who can withstand the attacks of Cr’tgerof himself.
Red Hawk will be able. Do not worry for he will not lead alone. Both Joshua and
I will advise him and he will have Adamas and Black Orchid to support him in
the field.”
“But before the Guardians can defeat the
Domain, the Quest must be completed”.
“The last remaining artifact is the
Soul-Scythe. It has been stolen by Glenn Jacco. He has taken it to Easter
Island. The Tarot Masters have magic wards and protections in place which are
hiding it and him from me.”
"Easter Island... Rapa Nui. Over 1,000 miles to the nearest other island... Over 2,000 miles to the mainland Chile... We will truly be on our own." The Black orchid pondered Dr. Avery's words.
With
that, the conversation turned to the Domains and our prospects at winning.
CX told of his plans to create a new suit that will function properly in
the Domain. He also had heard that there wasn't much metal in the demons
dimension. He fashioned a block of steel heavy enough that he could carry
it on his suit but not having to use his magnetic control to do so.
Red
Hawk said “The armored one certainly seems eager to get back into the battle
again doesn't he?"
To the rest of the assembled
heroes, Starbolt said. "I know that some of us are chomping at the bit to
get going, but what is the state of the Intel we have on the Domain."
"I
do agree, Starbolt, a good battle plan is needed, although it does seem there
are a few things we need to do beforehand, so hopefully those with a more
strategic mindset will be working on that while some of us attend to other
matters."
“And
good to see you Starbolt”, Black Orchid said.
Dr.
Arcane agreed as well. “The plan has to be two steps. First is finding Jacco on
Easter Island and securing the Soul-Scythe. Second is to enter the Domain to
stop them from ever invading again.
As
the superheroes of this century began planning, Thunderhead stayed in the
background listening. The man of yesteryear still had much to learn.
When Starbolt asked for intel on the Domain, Thunderhead waited until everyone had given their input, and then he said:
When Starbolt asked for intel on the Domain, Thunderhead waited until everyone had given their input, and then he said:
"I can share what I know. Agent America recently escaped imprisonment in the Domain. There, he met a man named Nomad who can walk between dimensions. Nomad and Agent America are gathering heroes from across the dimensions to form a resistance against the Domain and to free the prisoners of Cr’tegorf’s Castle, that include heroes from your time: Meganaut from the Super Forces, Blitzkrieg from the New Super Society, and Telecom.
"So
far, Agent America and Nomad have recruited Cougar, Conquistador, Night Wraith,
Machinist, and me for the resistance. Slowly, so as not to attract attention of
the Enemy. I am here on their behalf.
"Glenn
Jacco is still alive here in 2013. I've been sent to stop him, again. I first
met that corrupt sorcerer in 1931. He made a pact with demons and almost became
the ruler of the world. Jacco has a gate to the Domain on Easter Island. It's
the only way to bring more than a single hero through at a time."
After
listening to the Domain intel. report and Thunderhead's
info on the Domain Resistance, CX will pipe up.
"It’s nice to know that we might have some
back up. Is there any way you can communicate with them to coordinate our
efforts? I happen to agree with Starbolt in that a timely arrival can
mean the difference between victory and defeat."
Thunderhead
replied to CX, "I have no way to communicate with the resistance. But
I have two compasses that will guide us to the rendezvous point. I was
instructed to give one to Adamas when we entered the Domain and say:
"Don't worry." Thunderhead faced the man of adamant, "When
you are in the Domain, you will know how to use it."
He
stepped up and gave Thunderhead a friendly slap on the shoulder.
"Before we get to our strategy, I would like
to clear the air a bit. I know how Orchid feels about this but if we are
going to function as a team, we can't have any resentments or hidden attitudes
clouding our thoughts. Kertagorp seems to be able to get into our minds
already. Once on his turf, any animosities might be used against us.
If any of you are pissed about what I did at Stonehenge. Let's hear
it now. I will say that if it were not for the life and freedom of
every man, woman and child on our world, I would not have done such a harsh
act. Though it did not have the intended effect, I believe it threw their
zombie forces into disarray and aided in our goals. Next time, and I hope
there isn't, I'll discuss it with the team before I take any more harsh
actions."
CX
will stand and await the barrage that he assumed will follow. He doesn't
enjoy being berated but Earth and her people were at stake. He thought to
himself, "Here it comes. The world is more important than my
pride. I did pull the trigger. These folks have every right to be
pissed at me. But of that Demonlord uses it to split our forces again,
Earth is doomed. Just keep your reactions under control. It'll be
fine. Just take it."
To Centurion X’s surprise it wasn’t Dr.
Arcane or the other heroes who spoke first. It was Donnah.
“Really, that was you’re thought process. The
first Anti-Matter Vacuum Tower survived a nuclear bomb but you expected the
second one to be weaker. Graviton gave his life using all his power to stop it
by creating a Black Hole {See Crossover Issue No. 1 - Briefing, ~educational
editor}. What evidence did you have the Force Field would be weaker?”
“Every soldier attempts to force the enemy to
make the sacrifice. If that is what you want join the Super Forces. Being a
Guardian requires personal sacrifice.”
Dr. Arcane focused his attention on Centurion
X. “It is noble to say you were thinking of the every man, woman, and child
when you were taking action but you need to be honest with yourself. Were you
really in a losing position at that point? Was the life of every man, woman,
and child about to be lost?”
“Or were you really looking for a quick fix?”
When
CX wanted to clear the air about the destruction of Stonehenge, Thunderhead
said nothing - he had already forgiven the man.
CX
spoke to Black Orchid: "Well it’s good to know not everyone has a
noose waiting for my neck." *chuckles* "I'm ready to put my
hand on the tiller, so to speak."
...CX
sat back down and turned to Black Orchid. He leaned over and spoke
quietly.
"Looks
like my little tank maneuver didn't win me any popularity points. I guess
I've started out my hero career with a stutter step and on the wrong foot, to
boot. Oh well, I think I'd rather be the least of the heroes"...
Black
Orchid said. "Well, they know you're here! I was worried that I might have
been a little too 'under the radar' so to speak. And we're all new, at least
new to working with each other."
"Rushing
headlong into the jaws of the beast will help us not."

Another
great issue, Tom.
Really
enjoyed it. Thanks for all your hard work.
Spoilers:
Darkstar
steps back? Didn't see that coming, John!
Rip
Van Thunderhead can't lead a 21st century team of heroes. CX just got some bad
PR, and is young. Red Hawk is young.
Adamas
should lead. Experienced, magic-based, and a founding member of the team we're
all joining.
If
he passes, Starbolt or Black Orchid would be great.
Best,
Jeff/Thunderhead
------------------------------------------------------------------------Hi Tom
I just read Jon and Jeff's responses and seeming dismay at DarkStar declining the leadership position. Which comes as a surprise to say the least. I wasn't aware it would be a concern for Jon or Jeff ... Do you. Think it would be best for the game if I kept DarkStar in the mix? Definitely looking to avoid the fiasco that struck the team during the Destroyer adventure. I'm good with any of my characters if it good for the game and better for other players if need be. Any thoughts?
Regards
John

OOC:
I agree, great issue. And I'd agree Adamas would be the obvious choice... his background includes the Domain, my concern is that I'm personally currently working two jobs, and I have six kids in school, 1st grade through a Junior in high school, which equates to a lot of after school activities and programs.
A lot of the newer members are pouring a lot into their characters, and now that John's back in the Swing of things (Glad to have you back buddy!) I'm not sure I'll have the time to pull it together and actually lead. I've avoided it playing to Adama's lack of memory, and the fact that he was created to be a soldier, but in truth, it's more my schedule that's held me back. For those that pour so much into the game, I don't want to short change anyone and detract from the flow, when at times, I'm lucky to get in a two line response.
I know several of you are in the same shape, and I'm not trying to say everyone isn't busy, but I don't want the game to suffer from my lack of response. Reading back over this last issue, Adamas should have/would have responded sooner to CX's emboldened plea if I'd been caught up and responding in a timely manner. The fact that I wasn't was obvious. Even John had several opportunities for a side shot between DS and Adamas that I basically missed out on.
If Adamas is the man, I'll try to step up to the plate and do the best I can, but I wanted everyone to know where my head was as we work this out so that the game works best and is most enjoyable for everyone.

Whoa! I love it! Keep up the great work!!!!
Side
Shot CX-style =>
With
the last panel snapped into place, CX began running systems checks of his
armor. This version of the armor was a bit larger than his normal suit
but it would function normally within the Domain. At least he is fairly sure it
will. Based on Dark Star's report of the technical functioning level
within the Domain, everything should work. Watching the computer screens
run the checks seemed very odd. He was going to miss the HUD during the
journey into the Domain. Each system had its own computer and separate
controls. It was an inefficient way of doing things but it would work
much better than a choked off suit. Several hours passed by as he made
all of the checks and minor adjustments to the suit's systems. All said
and done, he removed the armor and stood it in its alcove next to his normal
armor.
He
sat down at the desk and poured himself a whiskey double shot. His mind
was a jumble of the latest round of dressing downs he had received since the
Vlasov, Director of
MEDUSA.
Mr. Vlasov,
"Using a fusion power source in a
transportation/weapons system is vastly safer than one utilizing a fission
core. However, it is the recommendation of DBI that an alternative power
source be chosen as there is a small chance of a critical and possibly
explosive result. All precautions will be take to secure the power core
from said occurrences but there is no guarantee expressed or implied that this
situation can or will be avoided."
As you can see, DBI is not responsible or
culpable for the destruction of the prototype tank, in question. I can
only assume that your field officers must have pushed the sign off on the
system without regard to this possible outcome. Centurion X is an
accomplished person within his own rights. It is only that he had access
to the systems override codes and his own technical expertise that he was able
to accomplish the over load of the fusion tank's core. I have a much
safer alternative to the fusion reactor that can be utilize to upgrade the designs
of the tanks. This system is much more expensive and proprietary to DBI.
If you wish to alter the designs of your requested 'fusion tank', I will
have the necessary non-disclosure agreements sent to your office.
On the matter of Centurion X's employment with
DBI. Having read Centurion X's report and reports that you have forwarded
me on this matter, it has become apparent that Centurion X acted with the best
interest of the entire planet, at heart. Apparently a good number of your
so called heroes had defected to the invader's side. Several people were
barking orders because no one seemed to be listening. It was not until
after the explosion and the intervention of Dark Star did a central command
assert itself. Not knowing who friend or enemy were, having no single
command structure, Centurion X made a decision to attempt to end the conflict
with a single drastic measure. Before you send an army of super powered soldiers
out on the field again, I suggest that you inform them of exactly who and what
their command structure is and sounds like. I regret that the destruction of Stonehenge
occurred. But with an extreme lack of leadership, increased casualties
should be expected. It was a site of vast historical significance, but it
was sacrificed for the salvation of the people of our world therefore, it was a
small price to pay. The reports also state that immediately following the
explosion of the fusion tank, many of the Domain's undead servants turned on
their masters. This gave our forces the opportunity to get into the tower
and get the job done. All in all, it seems like it had a beneficial
effect on the battlefield after all. It is also the policy of DBI to not
allow any member of the bureaucracy to dictate who can or cannot work for MY
company. The moment any appointed official can dictate to company who it
can employ, then that is moment that free enterprise and the right to freedom
in our great country ends. Simply put, Centurion X's employment status is
none of your concern unless you are trying to recruit him into your own employ.
Until such a time, please refrain from interfering with the employment
policies of DBI.
Thank you for your communication and
cooperation in these matters.
ADB
With
that done, he sends a memo to his legal department and financial division.
Due to our involvement in the Stonehenge Incident, I would like
to create a foundation to fund any restoration or historical work involving the
site. Supply the foundation with $25,000,000 in starter funds. I
will be personally matching the amount. Make it legal, staff it with the
best people and make it happen. I want this seen as it is, a tragic event
caused by an invading force of aliens.
Thank you. ADB
Slumping
back into his leather office chair, he says quietly, "At least the
Guardian will still have me... for now."

For
the next Issue:
OOC:
CX is wearing his normal suit at this juncture.
IC:
. <Please feel free to adjust the following if he is not the
first to arrive> CX arrives a few minutes before the scheduled meeting
at the given address. He follows the staff to the waiting area and
quietly looks around the room. He will try to get an idea of who he is
dealing with by the decor, books, and art within the room he has been left.
As Starbolt and Black Orchid arrive, he will greet them. He
carefully shakes their hands.
"Starbolt,
good to see you again. I hope your recovery was swift."
"Black
Orchid, how have you been? I was glad to see our project went well and
Adamas made a full recovery. I know most of his wounds were my fault, so
anything I could do to help was small in comparison. Have you been well
since I saw you last?"
After
the three have a chance for small talk, the host of the event seems to just
appear in the center of the room. Instinctively, CX activates his
defenses and takes a defensive posture. Seeing that the sudden appearance
is none other than their host, he powers down and resumes a more casual
posture.
"Good
evening. Dr. Arcane, I presume?"
OOC: Nice side story Dave. I think it gave us some great insight into CX's mindset and what makes the Golden Guardian tick. He might cringe at the thought but I'm pretty sure DarkStar sees a kindred spirit (maybe the other side of the coin) in Centurion X *smiley face*
IC reply in the works
John
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Wonderful side shot. I wanted to prep you before I respond. I know it has been a while since we discussed the fall out of CX actions with the tank. Personally I don't like to deduct Charisma points for game play (I don't award Charisma points as per the rules either. I only do it if I see the game play reflect a change in the character's persona and how NPCs would react).
My
thought on the fallout of CX actions, which destroyed a valued historical
monument and killed NPCs, will the US Gov't attack on his business. Either CX
will lose it completely (he won't be poor because he still has his own personal
wealth) or it is severely crippled. This will have one of the long
term stories for CX is either his building a new company or restoring his
company to past glory. Whichever excites you to role-play more. Let me know.
Just
to let you know I have worked for 24 years in the Aerospace/Defense
industry for both the DoD and Defense Contractors. So I will be unleashing
the DoD fury from CX's letter so a lot of I am writing will be actual current
laws and acquisition regulations with a few V&V imagined ones as well.
I
want this to be a fun exchange for us but let me know if I ever cross a
line where it isn't fun anymore. I am really wanting to play out the
repercussions of a cape using excessive force which CX would have done as a
villain but was never around to witness before.
Thanks
Tom -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Thom,
I
used to do contract work for manufacturers in the AeroSpace Industry. I
dealt with all of the specifications and tolerances and such of the thermal
processing side of the business. I know it’s going to be a big pain in
the butt. Actually the struggle is the thing. We'll proceed and
however the story goes is how we'll follow it. If he loses DBI then he'll
just start over. If it gets diminished greatly, he'll rebuild it. I
look forward to the exchanges. I won't be taking it personally because
that's why they call it ROLE playing... :) There are some gamers
who don't get that, but I do appreciate the heads up!
The
exploration of the responsibilities of your actions as a super will be very
cool played out alongside the super action. Its why I did the public side
shot, it’s just good story. He has lots of personal demons that he needs
to exercise along with the ones in the Domain to boot! It’s not so easy
to say Hey I'm a good guy now!!! It looks to be a lot of fun!
Talk
w/u Soon!

--------------------------------------------------------------John,
I have taken a few days to think about this.
We don't need DarkStar as leader.
We need a comic book reason for John to be the leader with the PC he is
playing. Here is an idea.
Dr. Arcane saw Red Hawk in the
group. He asked about the length of time that Red Hawk posed as Freedom Eagle
returned. Dr. Arcane asked DarkStar if it was possible the programming that
enabled Red Hawk to pretend to be Freedom Eagle might still be saved in Red
Hawk.
DarkStar with the aid of Cybil
hacks into Red Hawk's brain. He discovers that CyberDoom had stolen the MEDUSA
tactical simulator code for Freedom Eagle. Joshua enabled Red Hawk to access
the tactical simulator code. He now knows how Freedom Eagle fights and how to
lead a squad of superheroes in combat. This also is the event that enabled the
Level 2 advancement of firewalls against mental and emotional attacks.
The new code doesn't change
anything on Red Hawk's character sheet but it does provide comic book
justification for Red Hawk being team leader on the mission.
How does that sound to you? Think
that would be fun to play out?
Best
Tom-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Tom.
If you think Jeff and Jon are good with that I'm sure the others will follow along. Game mechanic Tactics is missing but I think I can muddle us through without having that on the character sheet (*wink*) I like the comic explanation I was thinking something along those lines myself but wasn't sure how playing up the faux- Iconic Legacy would fly with the other characters. I'll craft some character response now I know direction you're satisfied with. Thanks helps bunches and sounds fun.
Regards
John.

R OOC: We definitely threw a lot at Tom last issue and I have to say, as always
I love the work he puts into making it into another great Issue of Megalopolis.
I
have to admit, I enjoyed playing DarkStar's attempt to reorganize the 'troops'
after Tom's Big Reveal and having several heroes turn traitor, followed by CX
nuking half of England (love ya bro). Reminded me of DS almost doing the same
on the Island of Juompur so many ages ago. I just assumed with Magus gone
Adamas was the natural choice as field leader heading into the Domain . . .
Real life definitely has a way of interrupting our fun. I myself have a last
round of treatments and am hoping for good news at beginning of the year. Good
news is I have felt pretty good last couple rounds and hope for that to
continue.
Jon,
it is entirely up to you, and God knows the holidays are crazy for everyone let
alone a man with you responsibilities, Tom and I have come up with a
comic-book/role-play scenario that might just be ... fun. With that said
DarkStar is going to be staying behind for the upcoming trip into the Domain.
Blame Dave (CX). He suggested DS stay behind and organize the remaining Earth
troops and get started on the logistical support the expanded team might need
upon its return. (Hey Dave how are those bus wheels feeling pal? Love ya.) I'll
be writing up DarkStar's responses tonight or tomorrow.
I
am excited about playing Red Hawk. Jeff rightly pointed out he is 'young', even
for an Android, but his story is very much tied into the legacy of the
Freedom Eagle and Tom and I think there is a way to make that work for us if
needed. (Run on sentence much? lol) Just wanted you all to know where we were
with DS and my offer if needed on the issue. I'm thinking our toughest fight is
before us yet and can't wait to see how the new team blends together.
Happy
Holiday to all

<DarkStar IC: Responses> Joshua is standing at the side of Dr. Avery's bedside with Hannah, Adamas and Pietro. The old man looked frail, even for him. Still he was a pillar of strength as he forged on explaining the injuries Magus and Cure had incurred due to the Battle of Stonehenge. The Crusaders have disassembled, the Chosen can barely stem the tide here in Hallowed Hills, what is left of the Guardians is an eclectic mix of what is left from Stonehenge . . . and Adamas looks like he might be suffering his own inner demons as we prepare to return to the Domain. He's always been the best of us though, he'll be here when he is needed, as always.
Matter
of fact the assembly Doc has down stairs might be the strongest the team has
ever been. CX and Orchid are geniuses in there in own fields. Thunderbolt might
be from the past, but his great power and special knowledge will be invaluable.
Adamas, CX, and Starbolt make a formidable airwing in support of the stealthier
Orchid, Archer and Red Hawk. Yes, this team has great flexibility and power. If
only they can come together better than we did before Juompur.
As
the Guardians were leaving the bedroom to join the others in the library, Dr Avery
called to Joshua. He motioned for Joshua to stay after the others. “We are
almost done, „cough‟,‟cough‟, on our glorious adventure. We will have protected
the Earth when no others even saw the threat. I have one last request from you,
Joshua. When Dr Arcane is done introducing the new members and explaining the
significance of our quest, please do now talk too badly after my astral
projection disappears. I just don‟t have the strength to take another trip to
the mountain top with you.” He said with a wink and a smile.
Joshua
places a gently cerulean hand on his old mentor's shoulder. Looking down his
eyes can't express enough of the love he felt for the man. He was had become
the father Joshua had never had as a child and it pained him to his core what he
had to say next.
We lost to many heroes to say
we were lucky.
Smiling
as he remembers the day atop Mount Everest. "I'll make you a deal Doc. If
you explain to the others why I'm staying, I'll take you Sarrisa's beach resort
when this all over ... It's a magical place."
Joshua
joins the others in the library.

------------------------------------------------------------------------OOC: See Red Hawk's new image
Entering
the French doors behind the white-haired traveler, Red Hawk watches as the
Archer somehow almost seems to disappear into the shadows of the well lit
library. The brightly clad Centurion X is eagerly greeting the others who have
seemed to arrive before he and the Archer. Chris patiently waits, almost
missing the seemingly ever elusive Black Orchid. Even my advanced sensors have problems picking her up and
I doubt she's even trying to hide herself. "Greetings Black
Orchid. I see you have also answered the doctor's call. I was told the original
members of the doctor's team were gathered together in similar fashion a couple
years ago."
After
carefully listening to her reply, Red Hawk looks to red and blue hero to
Orchid's left and smiles at his battle companion from Stonehenge.
"Ready to do it again Starbolt? We didn't do so bad making our way through
that Tower did we? With you setting them up with your light powers and me
getting lucky enough to knock a few out along the way. The armored one
certainly seems eager to get back into the battle again doesn't he?" When
the avatar of weather enters the room, Chris recalls the hero in his
giant form and marvels at the power he must wield. "Your arrival at
Stonehenge was what we had to have to tip the battle, thank you. I look
forward to finishing this fight at your side."
As
he is about to introduce himself to the Centurion when he detects a 'ripple' in
the air and the image of Dr. Arcane appears in the library. Red Hawk just as
suddenly senses the golden adventurer's armor powering up and is about to react
when just as suddenly it powers down and the man resumes a more casual posture.
Leaning in Chris whispers "Can't
blame you there. Could use a bit more warning myself next time.

confident it will work."
After
hours of concentrating and hard work, it became obvious that Adamas was well on
his way to recovery. The Black Orchid, for hours a model of concentration and

relieved. "Well Dark Star, I think I'm ready for that drink now.

the radar' so to speak. And we're all new, at least new to working with each
other."
"Rushing
headlong into the jaws of the beast will help us not."
"I
do agree, Starbolt, a good battle plan is needed, although it does seem there
are a few things we need to do beforehand, so hopefully those with a more
strategic mindset will be working on that while some of us attend to other
matters."
"And
good to see you Starbolt
Marc
------------------------------------------------------------------------IC: To Black Orchid: "Well it’s good to know not everyone has a noose waiting for my neck." *chuckles* "I'm ready to put my hand on the tiller, so to speak."
To
Starbolt: "Yeah, a little warning would go a long way." he whispers.
Dave
----------------------------------------------------------------------"I have also never been a member of a group before as well. Black Orchid." Starbolt replies, "But, I am here to help in any way necessary." Extending his hand to Red Hawk, The Stellar-Powered Sentinel says, "Good to see you here buddy, I really appreciate the coordinated attack we laid on the demons from the Domain." To the rest of the assembled heroes, he will say. "I know that some of us are chomping at the bit to get going, but what is the state of the Intel we have on the Domain."
OOC: Starbolt, being new to this group is not trying to step on
any toes; He is simply seeking to find his place in the group. If it seems that
he has ruffled any feathers, he will immediately apologize and step back.

Hi everyone.
Here's
Thunderhead's reply.
IC:
On
the trip home:
Thunderhead
slept on the passage across the Atlantic Ocean.
Or her children's
children?"
At
Doc Arcane's:
Dr.
Avery's old fashioned home was comforting and familiar to Thunderhead. The time
traveler drank in the old paintings, books and antiques with a wistful smile.
Red
Hawk said, "Your arrival at Stonehenge was what we had to have to tip the
battle, thank you. I look forward to finishing this fight at your side."
Thunderhead put down a book, shook the man's hand and said, "It was nothing. You all had the battle well in hand before I arrived."
As the superheroes of this century began planning, Thunderhead stayed in the background listening. The man of yesteryear still had much to learn.
When Starbolt asked for intel on the Domain, Thunderhead waited until everyone had given their input, and then he said:

As the superheroes of this century began planning, Thunderhead stayed in the background listening. The man of yesteryear still had much to learn.
When Starbolt asked for intel on the Domain, Thunderhead waited until everyone had given their input, and then he said:
"I can share what I know. Agent America recently escaped imprisonment in
the Domain. There, he met a man named Nomad who can walk between dimensions.
Nomad and Agent America are gathering heroes from across the dimensions to form
a resistance against the Domain and to free the prisoners of Cr’tegorf’s
Castle, that include heroes from your time: Meganaut from the Super Forces,
Blitzkrieg from the New Super Society, and Telecom.
"So
far, Agent America and Nomad have recruited Cougar, Conquistador, Night Wraith,
Machinist, and me for the resistance.
OOC:
Tom, Thunderhead will share all he knows and answer any questions to the best of his ability. Thanks.
Best,
JeffTom, Thunderhead will share all he knows and answer any questions to the best of his ability. Thanks.
Best,

IC: After listening to the Domain intel. report and Thunderhead's info on the Domain Resistance, CX will pipe up.
"It’s
nice to know that we might have some back up. Is there any way you can
communicate with them to coordinate our efforts? I happen to agree with
Starbolt in that a timely arrival can mean the difference between victory and
defeat."
He
steps up and gives Thunderhead a friendly slap on the shoulder.
"Before
we get to our strategy, I would like to clear the air a bit. I know how
Orchid feels about this but if we are going to function as a team, we can't
have any resentments or hidden attitudes clouding our thoughts. Kertagorp
seems to be able to get into our minds already. Once on his turf, any
animosities might be used against us. If any of you are pissed about what
I did at Stonehenge. Let's hear it now. I will say that if
it were not for the life and freedom of everyman woman and child on our world,
I would not have done such a harsh act. Though it did not have the
intended effect, I believe it threw their zombie forces into disarray and aided
in our goals. Next time, and I hope there isn't, I'll discuss it with the
team before I take any more harsh actions."
CX
will stand and await the barrage that he assumes will follow. He doesn't
enjoy being berated but Earth and her people are at stake. He thinks to
himself, "Here it comes. The world is
more important than my pride. I did pull the trigger. These folks
have every right to be pissed at me. But of that Demonlord uses it to
split our forces again, Earth is doomed. Just keep your reactions under
control. It'll be fine. Just take it."
Dave
------------------------------------------------------------------------OOC
Hi
Tom
You
didn't mention that TH had a way to communicate with AA and Nomad.
Does he? Thanks.
Re:
replies to CX: I think the turn deadline has passed. Should we wait til next
ish to reply to CX ?
Best
Jeff--------------------------------------------------------------------------
No, TH does not have a way to speak to Nomad and AA. All he has is a rendezvous point.
Yes,
there is still time to respond to CX.
Best
Tom------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks. What's the rendezvous point?
Jeff
--------------------------------------------------------------------Thunderhead was given a "magical compass” which will lead him to the location. He was given a second one to be given to Adamas. TH was told to say "Don't worry when you get to the Domain you will know how to use it.”
Best
Tom
-----------------------------------------------------------------------Tom
Wow. Did I forget about this?
Jeff
------------------------------------------------------------No. I made it up last night because I couldn't think of another way to give directions and then I realized TH might be done before the rendezvous point so he needed a way to pass the directions along.
Best
Tom
------------------------------------------------------------------------Tom
Good. I thought I forgot something. :)
Jeff
---------------------------------------------------------------------Thunderhead replied to CX, "I have no way to communicate with the resistance. But I have two compasses that will guide us to the rendezvous point. I was instructed to give one to Adamas when we entered the Domain and say: "Don't worry." Thunderhead faced the man of adamant, "When you are in the Domain, you will know how to use it."
When
CX wanted to clear the air about the destruction of Stonehenge, Thunderhead
said nothing - he had already forgiven the man.
Jeff
-----------------------------------------------------------------------I honestly don't know." The Black orchid shrugs slightly, "I was given no indication that Bishop Prince was no longer continuing his activities, so I guess there are two now."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
<I know these are hopelessly out of order. I tried going back into my emails to find all the opportunities to do IC responses, and it was just too overwhelming so here's what I've got. :) >
Adamas
IC: to DS < after the flight lands back in Megalopolis. >
"My
friend, I am truly weaker than I had realized, if you could see to it to take
me to the Space Station to recuperate. I think they'd be better suited to
deal with my physiology, and I do not wish to tax the good doctor with my
infirmity. I know the weight of the world is resting on his shoulders
right now."
Once
they arrive at the space station, and Adamas is resting, he grasps his friend’s
hand, "One more favor I would ask..."
"Whoump"
DarkStar glanced around the foyer of WCTV News Station. One of the two
guards sitting nearby falls out of his chair at the sudden appearance of the
large blue giant, the other drops the drink he had in his hand, reaching for
his Taser, but stops mid-action as DarkStar turns his gaze upon them.
The
receptionist stares up at DarkStar, who seems to fill the entire room, and
swallow's her gum, chocking a little, she manages to get out... Jessica... 23rd
floor... "Whoump" and he's gone.
When
Adamas next awakens, he hears a heated conversation taking place, "How do
you even know this will work," he immediately identifies Jessica's
voice."
"We've
been over the math, and studied his DNA. We are quite certain it is
already working. Mrs Anderson, I know we're not medical doctors, but we
are both experts in our fields, and this is what we know. Black Orchid
stands her ground as the reporter launches into what gives them the right to
try out there "experimental" medicine on someone whose physiology is
like none other on Earth. Do you even know where he comes from?" she
asks.
Centurion
X who has already been pushed from the room by the diminutive reporter
responds, "We're not relying on his physiology here, we're adopting
science to help him do what he does naturally. The distribution method
I've come up with allows the medication to be administered intravenously,
something the doctors here would have been unable to accomplish without our
help."
"What
is going on here?" Adamas asks. His voice does not sound tired, or
weak, but as if nothing has happened.
Black
Orchid and CX silently slip out of the room.
Adamas
returns knowing what must happen next. His gaze passes through the
mansion, taking in the gather heroes, as he lands on the Balcony outside Dr.
Avery’s room. He thinks to Pietor, and the doors open before him.
Adamas joins the team aside the Doctors bed. He listens to the plan for
the Domain attack, and see’s the possibility of success. He has now seen
what these heroes can do, and agrees, this is the team to do it… not an army,
but a strike team. “They will not know what hit them he says
confidently.”
Adamas leaves the room, followed by Pietor and Donna, DarkStar stays behind. Entering the library he sees the gathered heroes, “Can I lead them,” he thinks to himself… I must. Then DarkStar and Doctor Arcane appear.
<After
the introductions and Doctor Arcane’s speech>
Adamas
seeks out each of the heroes individually, thanks them for their contributions
that he is aware of, either by his own observation, or what he’s heard on the
trip back, or in the debriefing. He shares any knowledge he has of the
Domain, and offers his support whenever there is a need. He is a man
resigned to his fate. There will be no goodbyes this time. This is
what he was created for, and he will save this world!
OOC:
Thanks for your patience everyone and I will stay more involved, I’m looking
forward to this next story arch, and I think we have a fantastic group to take
on this adventure. I know I took some liberty with you characters, and if
anyone has a problem with any part of this, feel free to send in your changes.
See you in the next issue.
Jon
-----------------------------------------------------------------------OOC: Sweet post Jon. Never fear of taking liberties with DS. He is at your disposal anytime. I'm really enjoying the Jessica and Adamas romance.

John

<<Black Orchid stands her ground>>
The
Black Orchid has been in situations like this before...people questioning her
work, her motives. Back then she caved a bit, even believed them when her
better judgment told her she was right, but not this time. "..and if you
would kindly wait a moment,... I believe,..." she stares intently at the
screen, "I'm monitoring Adamas' energy metabolism and cellular regrowth
levels... and now I'm adjusting the sequence identification feedback loop... of
my immediate return PCR amplification synthesizer... using ideas from my friend
Centurion here." The Black Orchid doesn't skip a beat, working feverishly,
almost instinctively, explaining her process with the same level of nonchalance
as someone explaining how to make toast. "The synthesizer identifies
key DNA sequences needed to replicate the unique components from my blood, the
components which allow me to heal at a faster rate than most people...and then
maps the sequences to DNA corollaries in Adamas' alien physiology without
stressing him too badly... There, you see," The Black Orchid flips her
hand triumphantly. "...it's working! His energy levels are increasing and
cellular damage is repairing at a greatly accelerated rate." Her
ebullience is tempered by the sweat on her brow, revealing the intense amount
of concentration and effort The Black Orchid used to make sure her equipment
worked as she promised. She leans back and says with a smile, "Centurion,
I think we did it!" as she holds her hand up for a high five, but deep in
her heart she knows that she got lucky and this was probably a one-time deal.
Marc
------------------------------------------------------------------------OOC: Very Nice posts!!!
IC
@ space station:
He
listens as Black Orchid explains the process. He realizes that she isn't
really talking to him, but he is happy to listen. He can truly appreciate
someone crafting with their own knowledge to wholly create something new.
The success is just icing on the cake. CX gives Orchid the high
five she is looking for! "That is fantastic! It is a joy to
watch you work. Exhilarating, isn't it? I'm just glad we could help
get him back on his feet. We're going to need him." With that,
the conversation turns to the Domains and our prospects at winning. CX
tells of his plans to create a new suit that will function properly in the
Domain. He also has heard that there isn't much metal in the demons
dimension. He has fashions a block of steel heavy enough that he can
carry it on his suit but not having to use his magnetic control to do so.
