Crusade: Stand Down! - Issue 53

{Location: Everglades Florida, the Base of the Chemical Thieves}

Dr. Wildman thought about his options. He could clearly go find another entrance but he could also teleport. The Druids Gate spell required him to directly sense his destination and his Amulet of Charming allowed him to communicate with mystical telepathy. “Is this a sense? Yes, in a way,” He thought. “Is it direct? Not as if I was seeing it with my own eyes but I think it is close enough, at least I hope it is,” The Dynamic Druid pondered.

“Could I use my control of TicToc like a beacon to 'Gate' in?” That was the heart of the question with only one way to find out.

Dr. Wildman opened the Druids Gate and there before him was a view so unexpected it almost caught him off guard. Two humanoid reptiles were wrestling each other against a background of a concrete and steel bunker enveloped in undulating animated flora.

On level A

 Dr Wildman stepped through it from the other side shaking his head - whether it was to clear the snow from his hood or simply a reaction to the scene before him - only Dr Wildman knew the answer. The wind and snow quickly chilled the atmosphere in the room and as he bought his hands together with a single clap - the gate was sealed.

[13] Skink said "A BELT? You can get a handbag at least! Lookit these pecs! Im gonna make an ottoman outta you, gruesome!"

The Skink attempted to execute a snap kick, up high while he spun off for a tail attack of his own... He would’ve tried a leg/leg/tail, but he needed a leg to land on

 "We gotta cook these turkeys and regroup! They can pick us off split up!"

KABLAM! Skink snap kicked Alligator in the chest.

{GM Skink base To Hit with Kick is 18, -3 for dual attack, -1 for Alligator Physical Defense; 14 or less To Hit. Skink rolled a 5, Hit. Skink rolled 11 damage points. Enough got past Alligator’s armor and ability to roll with to reduce his HP. There was 3 points of knock back after subtracting his Mass die roll.}

WHIF! Skink’s tail strike missed.

{GM Skink base To Hit with Tail is 20, -3 for dual attack, -1 for Alligator Physical Defense; 16 or less To Hit. Skink rolled an 18, Miss.}

Alligator flew across the room 15 feet landing prone on the ground next to the elevator shaft wall. He was barely conscious as he barely hung on to avoid being knocked out. He was still able to fight, barely.

[8] Snow began to melt in small puddles in the room. Dr Wildman crouched down next to TicToc resting a flat palm on the bull crocodile's head, quickly inspecting the creature for any signs of significant injury. Satisfied that the reptile was OK he turned his attention to the larger lizardman.

Dr Wildman stood up and there was the sound of old leather creaking as he moved. Dr Wildman had activated his armour spell. His skin turned to scales as he stepped towards Alligator. He looked beyond the bound snout into his reptilian eyes: "Stand down! It's over. The rockets can't launch - your foolish participation in this insane plot is over!" Dr Wildman gestured extravagantly with his arms, sweeping them outwards. "You can go down fighting if you want, but I promise you it will be painful."

[8] TicToc growled as if to punctuate the statement.

Alligator surrendered with a muffled response.

{GM Dr. Wildman influence task is his base Cool Save of 12,+9 for New Crusaders having a significant advantage over the Inhuman League, -12 for asking Alligator to surrender, +3 from using Dr. Wildman’s Power Points, -1 for Alligator’s Opposing Save modifier: 11 or less to influence Alligator to surrender. Dr. Wildman rolled an 11, Success}

Dr Wildman glanced at Skink: "Are you OK young fella?"

[4] THUMP! Skink and Dr Wildman turned at the sound. They looked across the room. There they saw at the left back top corner of the conference table burst into a web of cracks. They didn’t see anything fall that would have smashed on top of the table. So whatever damage the conference table had to have hit it from underneath. The table legs and chairs blocked their view of the underneath area of the table so they couldn’t see what had caused it.

On level B

Black Orchid said over the comm-link, “StrikeForce, I’ll be there as soon as I can” StrikeForce could tell from the sound of Black Orchid’s voice that she felt like she was abandoning him and that she didn’t like it.

StrikeForce did not reply to Black Orchid, as he wanted to surprise Spyder.

[4] Wow." StrikeForce thought. "That is the hardest I've been struck since I was rebuilt. I don't know if I can get to my feet. Just have to do what I can from here. Well, at least if he hits me again, I won't fall down." The Cyborg Crusader used his grapple blast in his staff to try and take out Spyder.

THUMVK! Spyder’s reaction to the grapple fired at him was too late. It struck him hard, launching the Arachnid Villain into the ceiling. Spyder smashed through the ceiling.

THUMP! He struck the underside of the conference room table on Level A imbedding his torso into the floor. The blow incapacitated him as his legs hung from the ceiling of Level B.

{GM: StrikeForce has a base 15 or less To Hit of Grapple Blast. Spyder failed his perception test so he wasn’t able to use his Physical Protection: 15 or less. StrikeForce rolled 6, Hit. Spyder has Heightened Senses. This power provides detection abilities to the type of attack the Grapple Blast is. Spyder made his Heightened Senses save so he could roll with the damage. StrikeForce rolled 23 damage points. Spyder suffered 13 points of knock back. He went through the ceiling. There is a table on the Level A. He struck it but didn’t breakthrough it. The table blocked him. He is stuck in the floor of Level A/ceiling of Level B after smashing into the conference room table on Level A. He is incapacitated.}

StrikeForce said to Black Orchid "I'll be here, though I have no idea what shape I'll be in.” The last part was said as he lay on the floor watching the legs of Spyder dangle from the ceiling, he watched intently for any sign of Spyder attempting to free himself.

On Level E

The Black Orchid helped Manta-Man up, "You are most welcome." It must be a strange sight to see Manta-Man stand up as if assisted by invisible strings.

[15] Adamas assumed a defensive position preparing for the attack he had goaded Psi-Prime into making.

[9] Black Orchid said "Are you well enough to keep moving, Manta-Man? We should go down the hall to help Adamas”. Manta-Man agreed. He ran ahead following the plant growth which led him right to the conflict. “Crusaders Charge!” he yelled as he raised both hands to blast Psi-Prime.

SHAKOW! He fired an electrical blast striking Psi-Prime in the back. The Velocity Villain cried out in pain as he lurched forward toward Adamas. Psi-Prime was hurt but was able to roll with part of the damage. He could continue to fight.

{GM: Manta-Man has a base To Hit of 16, -3 for dual attack, -1 for Psi-Prime Physical Defense; 12 or less to hit. Manta-Man rolled 2, Hit. Manta-Man rolled 10 points of damage. Psi-Prime took damage, suffering 1 point of knock back after his Mass die roll. He can continue to fight.}

SHAKOW! Manta-Man fired his second electrical bolt from his other hand. The blast missed its target.

{GM: Manta-Man has a base To Hit of 16, -3 for dual attack, -1 for Psi-Prime Physical Defense; 12 or less to hit. Manta-Man rolled 14, Miss.}

[7] Psi-Prime yelled, “You’re going down Adamas! You and your teammates ruined my plans but I am going to get my revenge on you now!”

ZIP! ZIP! ZIP! ZIP! ZIP! Psi-Prime added max velocity to the German coins in his hand. He launched them at Adamas. The coins miss him.

{GM: Psi-Prime has a base To Hit of 14, -1 for Psi-Prime Physical Defense; -6 for Full Defensive Fighting Stance; Psi-Prime needs 7 or less. Psi-Prime rolled 9, Miss.}

[6] Once Manta-man was up, the Black Orchid ran following Manta-Man down the hall to where Adamas and Dr. Velo are arguing.

She could tell by the sounds coming in the com-link that StrikeForce is in a tough battle with Spyder and she knew that he was fighting multiple opponents by himself. She knew that they needed to make sure the Dr. Velo (aka Psi-Prime) doesn't escape because he has the knowledge to recreate the compound again in the future. Before the team entered the base it was decided that capturing Dr. Velo was as equally important as it was rendering the compound harmless with the Negation formula.

On reflection Black Orchid stayed with the plan to stop Dr. Velo but she doesn’t like it that she’s abandoning StrikeForce. “StrikeForce, I’ll be there as soon as I can”, Black Orchid said.

StrikeForce replied, "I'll be here, though I have no idea what shape I'll be in.”

Black Orchid threw a blanket of darkness on the roof so Dr. Velo couldn't tell if he broke through or not.

[4] Evergreen struck Psi-Prime (aka Dr. Vel) with her thorns.

SLASSH! Evergreen’s strike hit true. It’s poison attacking Psi-Prime. He moaned in pain but keep control of his mind.

{GM: Evergreen’s base to hit was 18 minus -1 for Psi-Prime physical defense. She needed 17 to hit and rolled 17. Evergreen rolled 12 damage points. Psi-Prime rolled with some of the damage but most hurt him. Evergreen’s carrier paralytic attack got through.

GM: Psi-Prime had to make Intelligence save against the poison attack.  His INT Save is 17 minus -4 for the paralytic attack. Psi-Prime rolled with 4 power points, +4 to save. Psi-Prime Save was 17 and he rolled 15. He made the save and still could continue to fight.}

[4] Evergreen’s animated plants reached out grabbing Psi-Prime. He was caught in their hold. He would have to break free from their grapple to be able to flee.

{GM: Evergreen’s animated plants have a base to hit of 15, -1 for Psi-Prime physical defense. It needed 14 or less. It rolled 4, Grappled. Psi-Prime is caught. He has to successfully roll higher on HtH roll to move or break free from the grapple.}

[0] Psi-Prime looked to the ceiling as he prepared to use his velocity power on himself in order to break free and fly away. He couldn’t tell what if the Silo doors were open or closed because of the cloak of darkness that Black Orchid had place there. He was in no condition to survive slamming into the door or hatches above. Seeing that he was caught and surrounded he did the only logical thing he could do. He surrendered.

Black Orchid used the Negation formula she had created to render the compound harmless. Manta-Man called Detective Nash and Adamas called Ground Pounder. Both the local police and the U.S. Army descended on the hidden base of Psi-Prime. TicToc swam away happy in the knowledge he had protected his territory.

Shortly MEDUSA representatives showed up for Psi-Prime and CHESS agents for the Inhuman League. The police took charge of the members of the Prime Squadron.

The New Crusaders afterwards flew back to the Harmon Building where Crusader Citadel and Crusader Academy were located. All the heroes were given access to the Crusader Citadel and offered temporary quarters if they wanted them.

Manta-Man took Skink aside. The Aquatic Avenger let him know that he was officially enrolled in the Crusader Academy and there was a dormitory he was expected to stay in. It was in one of the lower floors of the Harmon Building. There were 4 of students in the academy. Manta-Man introduced him to them. They are Cannon, Rapidfire, Power Plant, and Green Peace. Power Plant and Green Peace are the teenage children of Evergreen and Powercell.

GM: All player characters earned 8 CPs from this part of the adventure.
Adamas has 9 CPs unused
Black Orchid has 9 CPs unused but is using 14 Inventing Points to maintain shaping ability. With the Negation Formula used those 3 Inventing Points are recovered. Do you want to use the 9 CP to release 9 Inventing Points?
Dr. Wildman has 9 CPs unused
Skink has 29 CPs unused
StrikeForce has 11 CPs unused

If you are unable to continue playing please let me know as it is a good time for your character to depart. If you are staying let me if you want to use or save your CPs. I am glad to work on ideas for advancing your characters abilities. Next issue will focus on your PCs background, personal NPCs, and introducing the Crusader Citadel and Academy NPCs to interact with as they recovered from the beating they took. I plan to leverage your PC backgrounds as 3 of you have labs with 2 having lab accidents/attacks. If you have specific ideas on what you want and do not want related to this please let me know. If you need or want more time let me know and I will gladly extend the due date.

 Hi all, Great issue Tom!

The Black Orchid helps Manta-Man up, "You are most welcome." It must be a strange sight to see Manta-Man stand up as if assisted by invisible strings. "Are you well enough to keep moving, Manta-Man? We should go down the hall to help Adamas." Once Manta-man is up, the Black Orchid will run (hopefully with him) down the hall to where Adamas and Dr. Velo are arguing.

[I assume The Black Orchid is smart enough to figure out what is going on with Dr. Velo.] If he hasn't escaped yet, she will throw a blanket of darkness on the roof so he can't tell if he broke through or not. If she doesn't make the connection that he is trying to escape, she will simply hit him with her Vacuum Blast.

Marc
---------------------------------------------------------------------
 Great issue Tom. Jon, I don't think that Adamas and StrikeForce will be able to stand much longer, but I guess that we will go down swinging.

Jamey
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
 I think you may be right.  Adamas hasn't gone down since he took that atomic blast, battling the Domain.  The Inhuman League is crazy; I believe they're the ones that killed Freedom Eagle.

Jon
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
 I'm not sure exactly which ones were involved in Freedom Eagles death (Tom can supply the information), except for Spyder, I know that he is involved. Lucky StrikeForce, he will soon be at his tender mercy. (lol) Hopefully the rest of the team will help us after we go down.

Jamey
----------------------------------------------------------------------
 StrikeForce will attempt to regain his feet and attack Spyder.

Jamey
----------------------------------------------------------------------
 Black Orchid is smart enough to know about Psi-Prime attempting to clear a path for his escape

Tom
----------------------------------------------------------------------
 Is Adamas going Full Defensive against Psi-Prime's attack or will he fight Defensively attempting to get a punch in himself (punching costs no power points)?

Thanks
Tom
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 I'm thinking full defensive.  If he tries to run, Adamas will attempt to grab him.  Other than that, it's full defense.

Jon
-------------------------------------------------------------------
 "A BELT? You can get a handbag at least! Lookit these pecs! Im gonna make an ottoman outta you, gruesome!"

The Skink will execute a snap kick, up high (chest/snout) while he spins off for a tail attack of his own... He wouldve tried a leg/leg/tail, but he needed a leg to land on

Chuck
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 "We gotta cook these turkeys and regroup! They can pick us off split up!"

Chuck
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 I have rethought my action, and StrikeForce will attack from the prone position that he is currently in. If you need anything else from me, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jamey

IC: "Wow." StrikeForce thought. "That is the hardest I've been struck since I was rebuilt. I don't know if I can get to my feet. Just have to do what I can from here. Well, at least if he hits me again, I won't fall down." The Cyborg Crusader uses his staff to try and take out Spyder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 He will use the grapple blast feature to hit him.

Jamey
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 I don't think The Black Orchid can tell what is going on with Strike Force, or else she would probably help with that, although preventing Dr. Velo from escaping is also pretty useful, I assume.

Marc
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't worry about StrikeForce; he will be out in one more hit. lol. But maybe one of the group can help him get off the floor.

Jamey
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I rolled a Perception Check for Black Orchid against her Intelligence save. She could tell by the sounds coming in the com-link that StrikeForce is in a tough battle with Spyder and she knows that he was fighting multiple opponents by himself. She knows that they need to make sure the Dr. Velo (Psi-Prime) doesn't escape because he has the knowledge to recreate the compound again in the future. Before the team entered the base it was decided that capturing Dr. Velo was equally important as it was rendering the compound harmless with the Negation formula.

Are you good with what Black Orchid is doing or do you want to change your turn?

Tom
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, on reflection she’ll stay trying to stop Dr. Velo but she doesn’t like it that she’s abandoning StrikeForce. “StrikeForce, I’ll be there as soon as I can”

Marc
---------------------------------------------------------------------
StrikeForce will not reply to Black Orchid, as he wants to possibly surprise Spyder. If he gets his attack off, and has the time, he will say "I'll be here, though I have no idea what shape I'll be in.

Jamey
