Black Orchid was surprised. The inside of the Vacuum Tower had not been as the intel she had been provided. The ground floor was the lowest level. There wasn’t a lower level just a large pipe like structure leading into the ground. There were 3 more floors above her. She knew from listening to Justice-Avenger that the Tarot Masters occupied the ground floor and the next 2 higher levels but no one talked about what was occupying the top floor.

The Wraith had not communicated what he had seen to her but she knew he was on the next floor up. Black Orchid had not been able to move from the ground floor because there were zombies carrying equipment from the lower floors to the upper floors. A lot of them were just assembling equipment on each floor but there was a group that was uncrating and carrying equipment to the top floor.

Black Orchid had identified all the equipment on the ground floor. There was a Computer Modulator, Transpatial Receiver, Logistic Computers and Power Generators. There was also a Transpatial viewer that the zombies had not completed yet.

"What the hell was that?" The Black Orchid wondered when the blast occurred as she struggled to hear the Tarot Masters' conversation. She was tempted to talk on the intercom but didn't want to give away her position.

Suddenly a loud commotion was heard, as someone scream the zombies weren’t obeying orders. Their low moans changed to loud groans but it wasn’t really a groan. It was a word. They were saying a single word.

Brains!!

Her curiosity took a back seat when she saw the zombies immediately changed their tactics. "I hope they rely on sight and not other senses. This is my chance to see what's going on upstairs." Still invisible she bolted upstairs but ran into the darkness. She paused, trying to see in the darkness but was unable to. She was able to hear commands being given on this floor.

“Don’t panic! Lord Noman saw in the cards this event would occur. Activate sequence gamma on your cups. Lord Noman and Shroud created a chemical fog which will drive the zombies away from us.” said The Fool.

Black Orchid smelled an extremely foul odor and then felt the zombies walk by her. They did not pay any attention to her. She watched the majority of the zombies leave the tower but about ¼ of them, the ones that had always been on the ground floor, did not they moved toward the Tarot Masters. “They must have been too far away from the fog. The fog rose to the upper floors but it didn’t settle down to the lower floor” she thought.

“Everyone backs against the walls!” Red Fury yelled, “Don’t let them swarm you!” as she cut a zombie down with her cutlass. The zombie fell to the ground unmoving.

"Dammit all. This is ridiculous. Some hero I've been." The Black Orchid thought as she turned back from the stairs. She looked at any of the Tarot Masters, prepared to blast any who get past the zombies and started going upstairs with her Devitalization Ray.

Outside the Vacuum Tower and away from the blast the battle restarted. Dynamo gathered herself. “Can’t stop now, I don’t know whether I am saving or avenging my love but I must continue. I know Seeker would want me to save the world before saving him. I must focus on what he wants. I must focus on my love’s desires not my own.”

Dynamo blasts at Sister Indigo. She misses with her electrical zap.

Lightning Fist led the rest of the heroes away from Tower. “Molecule Man and Klondike deal him! We need to take out the Tarot Troops” He shouted as he ran. Raising his Katana to a high striking position he closed on the Knight of Pentacles.

CLANK!

His katana struck the Knight’s armor.

Tomahawk sprinted behind the Asian warrior. He attacked the Eight of Pentacles, striking with his magic tomahawk.

WHAM!

His ancestral weapon struck true knocking Eight back 15 feet. The Pentacle Tarot Master was hurt but still awake.

Gale dove and then barreled rolled around Emerald. She fired a wind blast striking the Ginger TK Flyer. Emerald was knocked 10 feet way but she looped around to face Gale. Anger filled both of their eyes as the fight continued.

Inside the Vacuum Tower, Mortal fired his enchanted pistol at a zombie. The magical bullet struck the creature in the chest dropping it to the ground. The zombie did not move.

Outside the Vacuum Tower nearby the shatter husk that had been the Chariot.

Crashing into the platform of energy created by Starbolt, Phantom laid flat on his back doing his best to ignore the pain coursing throughout his body and trying desperately to regain his breath. Staring up at the flame washed sky above him the anti-hero was unable to breath and could feel himself slipping into unconsciousness. As his eyes began to blinking slowly and the life began to drain from face, Phantom could hear a familiar and gently voice calling out to him. The voice filled him with both sorrow and peace, it blocked out the sounds of battle and the screams of the dead and dying that littered the battlefield around him. It was a voice he could never forget and it was calling out to him, "Jack. . ." Moments of his life flashed quickly through his mind . . . his wife . . . his daughters . . . it all began to play out before him. His days in the military and the losing wars he fought in foreign lands for a country that did its best to forget him. He could recall the uncomfortably soothing warmth of blood as it sprayed across his face while he hacked away at the head of an enemy combatant with a shovel. He remembered how the enemy took his best friends in Iraq and how the people he was fighting for back home took the lives of his wife and kids without remorse . . . in a world that didn't make sense; they were the only thing he could truly believe in. He could see his clothes stained red with the blood of the ones he had lost and it made him feel alone . . . so very, very, alone. He heard the voice call out to him once again, ". . . Jack . . ." His soul was already lost . . . he knew that life for him was just 'going through the motions' . . . he was ready . . . he wanted to go home. Phantom's body laid still on the platform like a body resting in an open grave, a single tear rolled down his face as he heard the angelic voice of his wife speak to him once again, ". . . Jack . . . not yet, Jack . . ."

A burst of adrenaline suddenly filled his prone form and a rush of air instantly expanded his chest. With a loud and heavy gasp for air, the 'White Widow-maker' sat up and scrambled wildly for his weapons as if he had just been startled out of a deep sleep. Working quickly to regain his orientation and focus, another familiar voice unexpectedly called out to him, but this one came from his comm-system . . .

"Attention all Earth forces.  This is Centurion X.  Do we have any Telepaths still on the defense's side?  We need to make a group effort to break Kaflirtabrig's control over our allies.  Coordinate and bring our people back to reason.  Anyone near a downed comrade, help them up.  Our opponents are reeling; we need to get our lines back up and the attack on the Tower moving again.  We need coordinated attacks against that Tower.  All ranged attackers concentrate firepower on the Tower.  All close combatants give them protection!  That damn ship is down!  We are that much closer to victory!!!  The Tower!  Take the Tower OUT!"

As Centurion X finished screaming out his latest 'Mad Hatter-esque' request to the heroes of the Task-force, Phantom's memory and thoughts suddenly snapped back into place and he leaped deftly to his feet. He remembered the 'Giant Grape-Ape' smashing into the Blackfire's front deck just inches away from where he was standing and then setting off an explosive shock-wave that nearly sent him plummeting to his death. He remembered the 'Nuclear Narcissist' that 'flipped the switch' on a nuclear device that killed and injured more heroes then the enemy had. He also remembered that he was armed to the teeth and didn't give two 'flying figs' about either one of these knuckleheads!

Phantom growled out a simple statement of contempt as he took aim with both of his pistols on each of these 'heroes', "  . . . filthy sons of b-----s." Just as he was about to pull back the triggers of both weapons, another familiar voice came blaring across the Task-force's comm-system . . .

In a stern and forceful tone normally used by an angry parent scolding a misbehaving child, Magus said, "Negative! Do NOT follow Centurion X's request, all Task-force members proceed with the plan as instructed. Attack outside enemy forces and drive them back into the Tower."

Realizing that there was a greater need to be met beyond his own dark sense of pay-back, the seasoned marine holstered both of his pistols, brought his assault rifle up to his shoulder and fired off an M406 High-Explosive Grenade Round at a the Queen of Pentacles and the first three zombies to leave the Vacuum Tower.

KA-BOOM!

The grenade destroyed the threes zombies and knocked out the Queen of Pentacles. She was incapacitated.

The Page of Pentacles fired a shot at Blizzard. His aim was true taking the hero down. Blizzard was incapacitated.

Sister Indigo soared above Skylark, “Reject your false gods and allow me to cleanse you of your evil!” She fired a mystic bolt but missed with her shot going wide. “Never” Skylark cried in defiance. “This is the only confession you will ever receive from me!”

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Skylark’s sonic blast missed Sister Indigo.

Inside the Vacuum Tower:

The zombies advanced on the Tarot Masters.

Bulwark swung a massive fist knocking the zombie’s head clean off its shoulders. The power of the blow knocked the Zombie back 20 feet.

The Six of Swords fired his pistol into the chest of the zombie. The zombie didn’t feel any pain as its liver and left lung was ripped from its body. It continued to advance.

The Ten of Swords fired his shot wide as his mind panic in the face of the zombie horde.

Anima-Man reached out with his mind. Spikes erupted from the floor impaling the zombie in front of him. It stopped moving.

Five of Swords missed with his shot at an advancing zombie.

Outside across the field of Stonehenge, Mother Superior launched a lightning bolt using her magical flail at Dynamo. The bolt missed Dynamo’s armor but she was able to absorb the electricity but unfortunately the energy was too much. Dynamo suffered pain from the energy overload. She was barely hurt and able to continue with the fight.

Laserfire dropped Enforcer off near Lightning Fist. He turned and flew toward Super Nova. He missed with his laser blast when he fired at Super Nova.

American Woman continued her aerial battle with Diablo. They swooped and rolled in the sky as they looked for an advantage against the other. American Woman fired a light blast hitting Diablo. The shot wasn’t able to penetrate his invulnerability.

Kali moved silently across the battlefield. She engaged the Seven of Pentacles.

KA-POW!

She struck him with her energy chucks. Seven of Pentacles was knocked out from the blow.

Inside the Vacuum Tower, the Queen of Swords missed when she fired her pistol at a zombie moving toward her.

Three of Swords blew the face off his zombie. It fell to the ground unmoving.

A zombie took a swipe at the Queen of Swords. She dodged the reach of its arms.

Far from the battle of Stonehenge, Raven flew looking for his teammates that were blown from the blast at the Vacuum Tower. He found The Cure. He landed next to her. Taking the small medical kit that all in the Crimson Guard carried he administered aid to her. As he coughed and his lungs burned from the radiation surrounding her he continue to render aid.

The Cure woke up. Raven explained the current situation of the battle to her. The Cure could see that her radiation had hurt him. He was still able to fly and fight in his weakened state.

Enforcer attacked the Knight of Pentacles with his force field. He pummeled the Knight’s armor but he managed to only dent it and wasn’t able to hurt the Knight.

Inside the Vacuum Tower the Page of Swords missed with his shot. The targeted zombie moved toward him.

Outside the Vacuum Tower the Eight of Pentacles fired a shot at Tomahawk. The American Indian warrior easily dodged the shot.

The Nine of Pentacles fires on Enforcer. The enchanted bullet shattered against Enforcer’s force field. It wasn’t able to penetrate it.

Super Nova fired two flame blasts at Laserfire. The first blast hit Laserfire knocking him out. Laserfire was incapacitated.

Emerald fired a TK blast at Gale. The blast struck true knocking Gale out. She was incapacitated.

As Spacer Racer slammed into Magus, the force of the collision and the brutal shock-wave created by Centurion X's failed attempt to detonate a nuclear device to knock down the Vacuum Tower’s force field, force the two combatants spiraling away from each other. As Magus regained his sense, he heard Centurion X bark yet another out over the Heroes' comm-system.

Magus twisted and turned quickly; desperately trying to locate Space Racer current position through the nuclear fallout of Centurion X's failed nuclear assault, and issues forth an order of his own over the Heroes' comm-system. In a stern and forceful tone normally used by an angry parent scolding a misbehaving child, Magus said, "Negative! Do NOT follow Centurion X's request! All Task-force members proceed with the plan as instructed. Attack outside enemy forces and drive them back into the Tower."

As Spacer Racer came into view; in a burst of speed, Magus took off after him, preparing his Elfsbane spell as he flew, and spoke over the comm-system once more, "Wraith?!? How are we doing inside? Have we identified our target?"

No answer came from the ever silent Wraith.

Quickly closing on Space Racer, Magus slammed into his target, grabbed him by his shirt and completed the casting of his Elfsbane spell. With the last flicker of magical energy forcing its way onto Spacer Racer’s frame, Magus looked deep into the confused hero’s eyes and said, "Enough of this madness! Be the hero that we all know you are . . . I believe in you.”

Magus let go of Space Racer as he saw in the hero’s eyes that his spell had worked.

“Sorry”, Space Racer whispered, “I can’t believe I fell for Cr’tegorf’s trap.”

An Ice Ray struck Magus an instance later. Before he can react he was encased and trapped in Ice. The Whiteout/Bora hybrid continued to layer ice upon ice sealing the Earth Guardian in a massive ice cocoon. Magus dropped to the ground. The ice withstood the impact. Magus was trapped.

Space Racer screamed in rage. He flew at the Ice Giant, slamming into its head. It easily rolled with the damage. Space Racer’s attack did not hurt it.

Inside the Vacuum Tower Justice-Avenger slew a zombie with her magic sword.

Zombies attack Seven and Eight of Swords. Their grabs missed their targets.

Outside the Vacuum Tower, Molecule Man punched Tower. The Tarot Master giant grunted in pain but still stood and continued to fight with his one good arm. Tower tried to back hand Klondike but his blow missed.

Far away from the Tower, Airbiscuit stood guard over the fallen Red Hildegarde. Its efforts to revive her failed.

Volcanic Man joined the other heroes in fighting the minor arcana troops of the Pentacle suite. He attempted to punch Nine of Pentacle but Nine ducked and the blow missed.

Inside the Vacuum Tower the King of Swords fired on a zombie but his aim was untrue. The shot missed.

Outside the Vacuum Tower the Knight of Pentacles slung his rifle and drew his titanium sword. He attacked Lightning Fist with it. Lightning Fist easily parried the sword thrust with his katana.

Six of Pentacle fired on Enforcer but his shot went wide, missing.

Inside the Vacuum Tower, a zombie charged into Hierophant’s flame aura. It burned up as its ashes fell to the ground.

A zombie attacked the Ten of Swords missing with its grab.

Outside the Vacuum Tower, Evergreen scratched the Six of Pentacles with her thorns. Her poison entered his blood stream. The Six of Pentacles ran screaming from the battlefield. No one knew what kind of hallucinations he was experiencing.

Far away from the battlefield Condor found Adamas. He landed and provided assistance to him. Condor brought Adamas back to consciousness.

Adamas shook his head, looking up at his benefactor, he thought to himself, “maybe I should have thought that through a bit more”... He raised his hand... "I'm OK, thank you." came out sounding better than he felt.  Looking back down the trench his unconscious body dug as he flew away from the impact site, he was a little surprised to see individuals moving around close to the tower.  His telescopic sight quickly kicked in trying to locate his team mates, most specifically, Elwood.

Time to finish this he thought as he streaked across the battlefield.  He headed to Elwood first, as he came closer, he turned to hover nearby, "Are you OK my friend?" Adamas said not looking at Elwood, but keeping an eye on the tower, he began to register the dead on the battlefield, hero and villain a great sense of remorse builds within him.

Elwood replied to Adamas he was doing fine and offered his alien compatriot a drop of liquid comfort.

Spotting the Ice Giant near the Vacuum Tower Adamas unleashed 5 of his power blasts using his autofire ability. All five blasts hit it. Adamas smiled he knew the giant was outside his range but hoped its greater size would offset the difficulty of the shots. One blast hit it in the eyes and another in the arm. The remaining 3 shots hit the torso. The Ice Giant reeled and then staggered to the ground. It split into two smaller figures. White Out and Bora replaced the shape of the hybrid Ice Giant the lovers had created. They were unconscious.

{GM Note: I rolled to critical hits with two of his five shots. The special penalty rolls failed for eyes and arm. Next was to roll the % chance for KO when taking damage to hit points. The first shot did 4 points of damage to HP. I rolled 1d100 against a target of 4% or less. The roll was a 1, KO!!}

Serena tried to wake Manta Man and failed again. Giving up she picked him up and carrier him to where the other unconscious heroes were being collected. Anyone watching saw Manta Lad pick up his mentor, carrying him with the fireman’s carry.

Inside the Vacuum Tower the Knight of Swords shot the shoulder off of a zombie but the zombie continued to move forward.

A zombie tried to bite Nine of Swords face but can’t penetrate the faceplate worn by the Tarot Master Trooper.

The Seven of Swords missed with his shot but Eight of Swords didn’t. The zombie dropped to the ground unmoving. Nine of Swords attempted to shoot the zombie that tried to bite him but missed.

A zombie tried to grab the Knight of Swords but failed.

Outside the Vacuum Tower, Dreamweaver fired a TK blast at the Page of Pentacles missing with her shot.

Inside the Vacuum Tower, Cinder Maid fired a flame blast at a zombie consuming it in her flames. It crumbled to ashes.

The Four of Swords fired on a zombie, missing.

Hierophant swung his sword at a zombie. He slipped on ashes accidently hitting Mortal with his sword.

{GM Note: I rolled a Fumble for Hierophant. The result was hitting an ally}

A zombie attacked the Knight of Swords. The Knight easily evaded its grasp.

Outside the Vacuum Tower, the communication device that the Guardians use was not Elwood's preferred way of reaching out.  Looking a person in the eyes and truly making contact can never be overestimated, so when his new friends were speaking to each other through the technological/magical wonder, he would simply listen.  But then...

"Hello to my finely garbed friends," Elwood spoke into his communicator.  "I am told that the top level of the tower has a particularly ugly set of critters including a couple of gigantic blobs and a hungry looking maw-pit which has dangerous looking teeth.  The levels leading up to the top are inhabited by more of these Tarot Masters like the ones we are in conflict with now." The warm flask in Elwood's hand was emptied into his open mouth, poured behind his bottom teeth and under his raised tongue. After a loud 'gulp' he continued in a sincere tone, "You would be doing me a personal favor if you could find a way to get in that tower and help my dear friend Harvey.  He might be in danger.... Umm, over and out.  Thank you.  OK."

As he ended his transmission, the elder team member rubbed his chin and a slight wrinkle appeared in his brow.

Focusing through his amulet to Elwood, DarkStar hoped the ‘eccentric’ understood what Joshua was trying to do. “Elwood, this is Joshua. Thanks for passing along that information from Harvey. I hate to bother you, but is there any chance he can let us know who everyone is waiting at the front door. I would never forgive myself if I did not bring the proper party favors to greet our host with."

Laughter emanated from Elwood and the stress that had begun to impose upon him was broken.  "That's the spirit dear sir!" said Elwood into the communicator in response to DarkStar.  "While we don't have a full head count, we should hopefully see Harvey exiting the tower in a moment and he seems to be in the midst of a game of 'keep away' which I pray won't turn into 'kill the carrier.'  See you in a bit ol' buddy."

The Wraith stood in silent surprise as he watched a large piece of fixture come floating down the stairway from above. He at first thought it must have been thrown down but it didn’t crash into the deck but floated above it. It came past him and down the next set of stairs.

Black Orchid was shocked to see the flow divider from a drilling system come floating down the stairs and across the deck. It was very curious about what was moving it. It was not moving horizontally as if move by Telekinesis or Magnetic control. It didn’t have a little bounce to it like a person was walking as it was being carried. It was a bigger bounce as if its carrier was hopping as it moved.

She watched it move past her and down the stairs. It arrived at the ground floor then left through the entrance.

All across the battlefield outside the Vacuum Tower saw a large piece of metal hop quickly across the open field. It dodged and weaved as if it expected to be chased or shot at. It finally came to a stop and floated next to Elwood.

Those that turn to look at the entrance the Vacuum Tower where the metal came from saw a Tex Avery rendition of Las Vegas style lights and signs pointing out the entrance.

As the mushroom cloud dispersed into the altered sky around the enemy's Tower, CX silently cursed himself for the failed attempt.  He knew friend and foe alike were wounded or killed in the blast.  Seeing the Tower still standing was a point of frustration.  That was the biggest shot they had.  Time to change tactics.  CX flipped on his comm.

Magus said, "Negative! Do NOT follow Centurion X's request, all Task-force members proceed with the plan as instructed. Attack outside enemy forces and drive them back into the Tower."

CX flew over to the other tank's remains, reaching out, his magnetic powers began to make a portion of its metallic mass flow into a large coil.  The capacitors and power manifolds come free and begin to assemble into another circuit.

Shouting - "DarkStar, watch my back!  I think we can turn this around!"

DarkStar remembered the briefing provided to all the heroes at CHESS HQ. The General then started pointing out key enemy positions on the map, "The Red Fury's flying ship 'The Blackfire' otherwise known as the Chariot, the Minor Arcana Pentacles squad and the Major Arcana guarding the Towers entrance, and the Major Arcana that will surely be providing air cover. Once we've managed to get passed all of that the rest of the fight is a simple floor by floor assault of the Tower.

DarkStar replied, “I think we need different tactics than blasting away at it. Let’s rendezvous and coordinate our attack.”

Hearing the word of their appointed leader finally come across the radio, CX grumbled to himself, 'Does he not understand that no plan survives contact with the enemy?'

CX quickly cast his eyes around the battlefield and realized that even if completed, there are not enough power users to punch through the shield of the enemies Tower.  The forming coil broke down into a cloud of one inch spheres of metal.  They begin to swirl around him in about a 1.5 meter sphere.  He moved towards DarkStar's location and motioned for the Archer to join them. On his way there, he called to them through the voice synthesizer in his helmet.

"Our respective units are in disarray.  Our fearless leader wants to try and push more of the enemies into the Tower so they can better defend it once we get in there.  We need to cut a swath to the Tower's entrance, try to make contact with those inside and make a modified plan to take that thing down.  I'm just glad there was a fusion engine in that tank.    That fusion blast released a lot of energy but the radiation levels should be relatively low.  That's why fusion is considered a clean power source. Most idiots think that fusion and fission are the same. They're both nuclear but very different when they go boom.  We should be able to cross the blast zone with little or no ill effects.  Just in case, I can give you a ride Archer."

As DarkStar watched Centurion X, Archer, War Wagon, Epsilon, Magnetor and others join up and move toward his position he reflected on the last seconds leading up to now, hoping to find an advantage for the Earth’s heroes.

WHAMP!

DarkStar slammed into the ground creating a small crater. A cloud of dust rises in the air all about him. Looking up from his hands and knees Commander Joshua Rose saw people and armament flying from the battered ship. That could have gone better, but it will have to do. The big man sighed heavily in relief at seeing that the heroes Laserfire and Starbolt had responded to his call for help and were evacuating the non-flyers. I owe the New Crusaders a big favor for that one. Then suddenly the air went silent, almost the same as when Joshua gets ready to teleport . . .

KA-BLAM!!!!

A wave of light and heat washed over the crater just as Rose was about to climb out. His visor protected him from the blinding light and the heat washed over the crater edge soaking into his skin like the healing sun. A glimpse of two flying figures sent a chill through his heart. “Adamas, Cure!!!” Who the h*ll? Vlasov and Samuel told me nukes were not an option. Chaotic chatter started across the StarCorp network, conflicting orders were shouted back and forth. Yeah, tossing a nuke into the equation can have that effect. Focusing on Dr. Arcane through his amulet. “Sorry Doc, the kid had his chance, but the stakes are too high”. “Cybil, daddy’s very angry and someone is going to feel the pain today. Please project a replay from the Ares satellite of the last thirty seconds. Tag good guys and bad guys with estimated current condition and project me a path to the entrance.”

Activating the ‘alpha override’ on the comm-system DarkStar cut a private channel through the heroes chatter. “Starbolt, thanks for catching Phantom and Chat Noir. I hate to impose, but I’m afraid I need you again. General Samuels said it was imperative to take this thing down in a floor by floor fight. I’m going in. I’d take it as a personal favor if you and your Crusaders could hold the back door for me. I need to know my ‘six’ is being covered by someone I can trust.” Rose started out of the crater when he saw shadowy figures making their way through the haze. No more time for hero fights. Preparing to combat teleport to the force field entrance Red Fury went through he stopped as suddenly he recognized the government golden boy and the archer who made the last minute entrance at CHESS headquarters.

With the impromptu team gathered as DarkStar was listening to Centurion X passionate speech he realized the golden boy was responsible for all the death and destruction that recently rained over the battlefield … Adamas. Subduing his anger, Joshua realized the Centurion is as new to the battlefield as DeBrandts’ mammoth tanks. “Your planning is a bit off but I can’t fault your priorities. Nothing that has happened so far counts, we have to get in the tower. There will be an ambush so I’m taking point. It is then the Archer quietly produces three arrows and quickly and efficiently explains their function. “Red nock explodes, yellow nock flashes, clear nock Sonics.” The titan of transport nodded in understanding and adds that information to his close quarter’s combat plan for breaching the tower. “Don’t sweat the radiation. Unless I miss my guess, Cure is probably healing her injuries by absorbing any ambient energy. I’m not in the mood to run into that ice giant though. Put your hands on my shoulders or each other. We have to be in contact with each other.”

Starbolt acknowledged DarkStar's request. "Sure, no problem. I've got your six." To his platform passengers he said. "you guys can come along, or I can drop you off here. The choice is yours." Starbolt dropped the unconscious Chat Noir off at the recovery location. The platform that was holding him disappeared. Starbolt carrying Phantom on a different platform flew off to the Vacuum Tower.

As the ‘heroes’ slipped from the crater and prepared to assault the tower a whirlwind of thoughts slide through DarkStar’s hyper-intuitive mind. Rot the souls of all the bureaucrats. Magus heart is in the right place but the kid is out of his element. There are too many variables for anyone in this big of a situation. We were lucky at the castle, but the stakes are the lives of every free soul on Earth.

Casting his gaze about the haze, Joshua hoped to find the Phantom. Cybil can’t get a lock on anyone inside the AOE yet. D@m* that cold blooded killer’s eyes. He might be a deathwish waiting to happen, but it’s been years since I was trained for this kind of infiltration. Phantom should be the man leading this little party.

Isolate, enter and clear. Yeah piece of cake. I don’t know how long I’m going to last, we could use another bruiser. Enforcer’s force field would be a plus as a Support element. Security is in place at least. Thank God Starbolt agreed to guard our backdoor. We need up information updates though. I hope Black Orchid and Wraith … Harvey!!!

Those Tex Avery Las Vega style signs had to be from the Pooka. He was showing us the way in.

Switching to StarComms, Joshua again initiated the alpha override and broadcast on a separate wavelength to Wraith and Black Orchid. “Thanks for the information. Please stay safe. We are coming for you but need an updated status of who and where in the tower the opposition is. Stay safe, be ready.” Okay Tarot Masters, time to shuffle the deck.

With the whirling cloud of metal at his beck and call, CX looked at DarkStar.

"I can either be a shield or a sword.  Everyone knows and respects your decisions.  Choose."

"Cybil, command Override Alpha, switch designated hero units to bravo level security channel and transmit the following. Include units designated Black Orchid and the Wraith."

"Tower Assault Force One. Two squads. Blue Squad: Fortress join Armorman Junior, War Wagon and DarkStar at the tower entrance and combine attacks when possible and secure the ground floor. Gold Squad: Centurion, Magnetor, Archer and Epsilon provide fire support. Priorities are flanking or ranged enemy units. Suggest all friendlies evacuate ground floor immediately."

Focusing his thoughts once again through the amulet to the ever effervescent Elwood. "Hey Pal, Just in case he went back for more tell old Harv' if he can keep away and get out now, his friends will stop the bad men from killing the carrier."

Joshua plans for the assault took a small side step  . . . Doc' what's that boy and his buddy up to?

Dr Avery replied, “Who knows, I sure don’t”

DarkStar checked to make sure the team was ready.

**WHOUMP**

Hearing the orders given, CX flew to a mere 10 feet above the group to give support and covering fire to the squad.  HIs goal, for the moment is to provide cover fire for those on DarkStar's position.

Over the new comm channel - "I've got High Guard until we're assembled, Gold One, Over."

DarkStar charged into the ground floor of the Vacuum Tower. He found it a chaos of battle. Whatever ambushed had awaited the released zombie horde had ruined those plans. He quickly spotted Bulwark. They had an appointment which wasn’t going to wait any longer {GM Note: Quest Issue #19}

DarkStar threw a punch at Bulwark. Bulwark weaved to the left to avoid being hit.

War Wagon moved to the center wall opposite of the Swords minor arcana. He opened fire with his quad guns.

BRAK-AT-TAT-TAT-AT-TAT
BRAK-AT-TAT-TAT-AT-TAT
BRAK-AT-TAT-TAT-AT-TAT
BRAK-AT-TAT-TAT-AT-TAT

He had fired on 9 zombies and the King and Queen of Swords. He hit 4 of the zombies tearing them to shreds. They fell to the ground unmoving. The other five zombies missed and well as missing the King and Queen of Swords. One shot destroyed a bracket holding a joist. The beam swung down barely missing DarkStar.

War Wagon’s quad guns seized up and quit firing. He wasn’t able to clear them.

{GM Note: I rolled two Fumbles on War Wagons autofire. The resulting roll was attack ally and lose device. An attack was done on DarkStar and missed.}

Archer followed behind War Wagon. He pulled two normal arrows. He fired at the heads of the Knight of Swords and the Page of Swords. Both shots hit. The Knight’s armor protected him from any damage. The Page rolled with the damage. He was still in the fight.

{GM Note: I rolled 1d100 to see if a KO happened for the Page. The roll was above the target value %}

Epsilon missed with his TK blast at the Two of Swords.

Fortress called upon earth columns to rise up to bash Anima-Man. The columns missed their target.

Magnetor aimed his magnetic device. He fired a magnetic wave at the Three of Swords. He hit him. The Three of Swords fell to the ground unconscious.

{GM Note: Magnetor did 7 points of damage to Hit Points. I rolled 1d100 against a value of 7% or less, the roll was 3.}

Armorman Junior leapt across the room. He attacked Hierophant. He punched landed. The Ace of Swords’ flame aura protected him. Armorman Junior’s armor was slightly damaged by the flame.

Outside the Vacuum Tower, after taking Seeker to the recovery location, Blastar returned to the battle. He fired on Super Nova. His power blast hit but Super Nova withstood the blast and continued to fight.

Inside the Vacuum Tower, Snowman fired a laser taking off the head of one of the zombies. It fell to the ground unmoving.

Outsider the Vacuum Tower, the Priestess snuck around the other side of the Vacuum Tower, she fired a devitalization ray at Centurion X. He sensed the danger and was prepared for the attack. The blast hit him.

{GM Note: Priestess did 17 damage; -17 to Power Points}

Centurion fired a Magnetic pulse at her. The pulse wave missed.

Starbolt fired on the Priestess. His light ray hit her. She rolled with the damage. She was still able to fight.

Chris overheard the heroes plan to try and take down the tower with crashed tank, but focused on his pursuit of Skyhawk. The veteran hero turned traitor elusively weaved and dodged Red Hawk’s pursuit while racing to the aid of the Blackfire. The high-speed processor that analyzes his environment warned avian-themed adventure of danger, giving Chris just enough time to break off and roll high into the sky over the plume of the small nuclear explosion. From his highpoint, Chris’s sensors compensated as the explosion rolls outward consuming many on the villains and vigilantes in its wave of heat and light.

Over the comm unit, Red Hawk heard multiple orders and confusion seemed to reign among hero and villain alike for the moment. Seeing two of the heroes of the Protectors crash in a smoking heap to the ancient hilltop, Chris scanned the battlefield. He had no special skills or abilities to help others than a strong desire to make up for his once wrong deeds. Diving back down in range of his vibratory blast, Red Hawk guarded those who are down from further harm.

He fired a vibratory blast at the Priestess. His shot missed.

Resonator halted in the middle of the field as the other heroes had left him behind as he had requested. While his suit gave him fantastic abilities it severely limited his mobility. He scanned for opponents. He fired a sonic blast at the Page of Pentacles. He shot went wide.

Inside the Vacuum Tower, the Two of Swords missed his shot he took at a zombie.

Outside the Vacuum Tower, Diablo fired a flame blast at American Woman but she swooped out to way causing his shot to miss.

Klondike hit Tower with a right cross. The Tarot Master Giant straggled and then wobbled. He took a step then rolled his eyes falling to the ground unconscious.

{GM Note: Klondike did 21 points of damage to Hit Points. I rolled 1d100 against a value of 21% or less, the roll was 6.}

OOC: Well Crap...

IC:  As the mushroom cloud rises into the altered sky around the enemy's Tower, CX silently curses himself for the failed attempt.  He knows friend and foe alike were wounded or killed in the blast.  Seeing the Tower still standing is a point of frustration.  That was the biggest shot they had.  Time to change tactics.  CX flips on his comm.

CX flies over to the other tank's remains, reaching out, his magnetic powers begin to make a portion of its metallic mass flow into a large coil.  The capacitors and power manifolds come free and begin to assemble into another circuit.

Shouting - "DarkStar, watch my back!  I think we can turn this around!"

OOC:  CX is inventing a short term power amplifier.  Basically, the idea, at least, is that CX will use the circuit and his powers to amplify any magnetic, lightning, or particle beam attack fired through it.  If we can get multiple heroes to fire their attacks through it at once, we can penetrate the FF and begin knocking down the real target!  Not sure how the mechanics work here but I think CX has the Invention points and the skills to pull it off.  It is intended as a one off device to last only this battle.

OOC: Space Racer is the only traitor hero that hasn't escaped the spell. So there is only 1 ally left that control hasn't been broken.

I understand you wanting to create a 1 shot device to take and it is doable but the Force Field survived a Small Nuke blast. So are you trying to create a Large Nuke equivalent attack?

What about the stealth characters. Have you checked with them to see how hard it is to enter the Vacuum Tower?

--------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: to follow up on Tom's query concerning CX plan to create a energy funnet to attack the power, I'd like to have others idea on the following. It is an excerpt from "Crossover Issue #2". DarkStar has been occupied with the Blackfire so I could not have him respond IC to focus the heroes assault with this info in mind.
********** *******************************************************************************************************

" The General then started pointing out key enemy positions on the map, "The Red Fury's flying ship 'The Blackfire' otherwise known as the Chariot, the Minor Arcana Pentacles squad and the Major Arcana guarding the Towers entrance, and the Major Arcana that will surely be providing air cover. Once we've managed to get passed all of that the rest of the fight is a simple floor by floor assault of the Tower."

*****************************************************************************************************************
OOC: I would like to do this IC but it would require Tom okaying the character having the information either through eavesdropping through the holo pads he gave the team leaders during the planning stage or maybe just spend an inventing or luck point as his Heightened Intellect makes comparisons to the forcefield his team face on Jhoumpur Island.

The Force Field is a Deus ex Machina and is not going down regardless of what we hit it with. We have to get assault teams inside the tower and fight floor to floor til we get to the top and destroy th tower from within. I'm sure I don't have it all figured out but that's my take on the forcefield protecting the tower. Maybe Magus could cast a Dispel Magic of some sort on it but if it is a Deux Machina then that will be a waste of time also.

My two cents - gladly willing to put that into RP form but thought we might all discus out approach a second before proceeding

Keep em Flying
John
------------------------------------------------------------
I hate to be the 'bubble burster' here, John - but the following statement you made . . .

"OOC: I would like to do this IC but it would require Tom okaying the character having the information either through eavesdropping through the holo pads he gave the team leaders during the planning stage or maybe . . ."

. . . that's actually not the case. You had handed them all over to Magus to distribute and he never did - sorry, man. There was a detailed mission briefing given to the entire Task-force though; and if I'm not mistaken, the entire battle plan was discussed, team assignments were given, team leaders were clearly identified, etc. - so all PC and NPC heroes should have a pretty solid idea as to whats going on.

-Kev
-------------------------------------------------------------
That's why I thought it best to discuss it openly first. We all read Toms stuff a little differently it seems. I thought I read Magus had looked at it. So had them with him in the meeting. That is for the other info. I definitely wasn't clear had how detailed the briefing was to the group of amasses heroes. Your take on it helps. Thanks

John
-------------------------------------------------------------
Actually, on that point you are correct - Magus did read over DarkStar's proposal during the Task-force leaders strategy meeting, but he never handed them out. If I recall correctly, Magus finished reading it half-way through the meeting and then locked them back up in the briefcase that DarkStar had presented them in. He obviously took some of his recommendations into consideration and definitely went forward with DarkStar's offer to provide communications equipment.

-Kev
-------------------------------------------------------------
That's cool Kev

I just needed to make sure DS had an in game explanation for having character knowledge of Samuels direction on the battle plan. I’ll go with the general knowledge option as it doesn't require permission from Tom to tweak continuity. Thanks again for your pov

John

OOC:

Tom, I may be taking a small measure of literary license in Magus's IC Response - hopefully you'll be ok with it. If not, let me know and I'll get to work asap to correct it as needed.

Magus IC:

As Spacer Racer slams into Magus, the force of the collision and the brutal shock-wave created by Centurion X's failed attempt to detonate a nuclear device, force the two combatants spiraling away from each other. As Magus regains his sense, he hears Centurion X bark yet another out over the Heroes' comm-system.

Centurion X IC:

"Attention all Earth forces.  This is Centurion X.  Do we have any Telepaths still on the defense's side?  We need to make a group effort to break Kaflirtabrig's control over our allies.  Coordinate and bring our people back to reason.  Anyone near a downed comrade, help them up.  Our opponents are reeling, we need to get our lines back up and the attack on the Tower moving again.  We need coordinated attacks against that Tower.  All ranged attackers concentrate firepower on the Tower.  All close combatants give them protection!  That damn ship is down!  We are that much closer to victory!!!  The Tower!  Take the Tower OUT!"

Magus IC:

Magus twists and turns quickly; desperately trying to locate Space Racer current position through the nuclear fallout of Centurion X's failed nuclear assault, and issues forth an order of his own over the Heroes' comm-system. In a stern and forceful tone normally used by an angry parent scolding a misbehaving child, Magus says, "Negative! Do NOT follow Centurion X's request! All Task-force members proceed with the plan as instructed. Attack outside enemy forces and drive them back into the Tower."

As Spacer Racer comes into view; in a burst of speed, Magus takes off after him ( OOC: preparing to cast Elfsbane ) and speaks over the comm-system once more, "Wraith?!? How are we doing inside? Have we identified our target?"

Quickly closing on Space Racer, Magus slams into his target, grabs him by his shirt ( OOC: Using all of his Damage Modifiers in a negative way in an effort to minimizes damage as much as possible ) and completes the casting of his Elfsbane spell. With the last flicker of magical energy forcing its way onto Spacer Racers frame, Magus looks deep into the confused heroes eyes and says, "Enough of this madness! Be the hero that we all know you are . . . I believe in you." ( OOC: hopefully that will snap him out of his trance - fingers crossed )

OOC:

First off - terrific issue as always, Tom! I can honestly say that I did not see a lot of that going the way it went - great job!

Secondly, Magus's attack on Space Racer was written with dramatic effect in mind and wasn't really worded in V&V terms the way it should have been. My intentions are to have Magus slam into Space Racer, grab him, and then do a single attack with the Elfsbane spell. Magus could have just as easily shot him with the spell, but I figured the whole 'grabbing' thing made for a better story - if you would like to treat the grab as an attack and the spell casting as a carrier attack I'll totally understand.

Anything else you might need from me regarding Magus, please let me know - I'll get it out to you asap. I'll start working on Phantom's Response shortly.

Again, great story!

Talk to you all soon,

-Kev
-------------------------------------------------------------
No, I am good with it. I am okay with dramatic effect while the underlying V&V mechanics are a little different.

I am good with how to play out what you have written.

Phantom IC:

Crashing into the platform of energy created by Starbolt, Phantom laid flat on his back doing his best to ignore the pain coursing throughout his body and trying desperately to regain his breath. Staring up at the flame washed sky above him ( OOC: one of the adverse side-effects of a nuclear detonation ), the anti-hero was unable to breath and could feel himself slipping into unconsciousness. He remembered how the enemy took his best friends in Iraq and how the people he was fighting for back home took the lives of his wife and kids without remorse . . . in a world that didn't make sense, they were the only thing he could truly believe in.

Working quickly to regain his orientation and focus, another familiar voice unexpectedly called out to him, but this one came from his comm-system . . .

Phantom IC:

Phantom growled out a simple statement of contempt as he took aim with both of his pistols on each of these 'heroes', "  . . . filthy sons of bitches." Just as he was about to pull back the triggers of both weapons, another familiar voice came blaring across the Task-force's comm-system . . .

Magus IC:

In a stern and forceful tone normally used by an angry parent scolding a misbehaving child, Magus said, "Negative! Do NOT follow Centurion X's request, all Task-force members proceed with the plan as instructed. Attack outside enemy forces and drive them back into the Tower."

Phantom IC:

Realizing that there was a greater need to be met beyond his own dark sense of pay-back, the seasoned marine holstered both of his pistols, brought his assault rifle up to his shoulder and fired off an M406 High-Explosive Grenade Round at a nearby group of villains. ( OOC: Tom, I'm not 100% sure who is near Phantom at the moment so feel free to have him target any group of nearby villains - he of course will do his best to not pick a group that's near any heroes - he is after all, fully aware of the blast radius of the grenade ).

OOC:

Tom, if you need anything else from me for Phantom just let me know - I'll get it out to you asap.

Talk to you all soon,

-Kev
-------------------------------------------------------------
IC:
The communication device that the Guardians use is not Elwood's preferred way of reaching out.

The levels leading up to the top are inhabited by more of these Tarot Masters like the ones we are in conflict with now." The warm flask in Elwood's hand is emptied into his open mouth, poured behind his bottom teeth and under his raised tongue. After a loud 'gulp' he continues in a sincere tone, "You would be doing me a personal favor if you could find a way to get in that tower and help my dear friend Harvey.  He might be in danger.... Umm, over and out.  Thank you.  OK."

As he ended his transmission, the elder team member rubbed his chin and a slight wrinkle appeared in his brow.

Michael
-------------------------------------------------------------
IC:  Hearing the word of their appointed leader finally come across the radio, CX grumbles to himself, 'Does he not understand that no plan survives contact with the enemy?'

CX quickly casts his eyes around the battlefield and realizes that even if completed, there are not enough power users to punch through the shield of the enemies Tower.  The forming coil breaks down into a cloud of one inch spheres of metal.  They begin to swirl around him in about a 1.5 meter sphere.  He moves towards Darkstar's location and motions for the Archer to join them. On his way there, if any targets of opportunity present themselves, they get pummeled with a few ball bearing at hyper velocity (Magnetic Control damage) He calls to them through the voice synthesizer in his helmet.

That's why fusion is consider a clean power source. Most idiots think that fusion and fission are the same. They're both nuclear but very different when they go boom.  We should be able to cross the blast zone with little or no ill effects.  Just in case, I can give you a ride Archer."

Dave
-------------------------------------------------------------
Does the big smoky area mean the forcefield is down? No

Or is that smoke enveloping the forcefield and it is clear? Yes

Or has the smoke filled the inside and outside of the forcefield through the gaps the enemy is entering and exiting the tower? No. Smoke is exterior of the Forcefield. None is passing through to the Tower or between the Tower and Forcefield

And to be clear...the forcefield only surrounding DS the tower itself - like a sheath - not providing the enemy protection? Depends on the enemy. The enemy inside with Black Orchid and The Wraith are protected. Enemy outside Tower (Priestess and Ice Giant) are not protected unless you stand on the opposite side of the Tower than where they are then try to hit them by shooting through the Forcefield.

If Cybil is operating can I use the maps you've been providing as a satellite image for DarkStar to use through Cybil? Yes and Yes

Best

Hey Tom, Guys

OOC: Uhm, I’d apologize for this being a bit long, but I’ve been awaiting this scenario for two years so I’m going to luxuriate in the experience. LOL

<DarkStar IC: Action and Responses>

WHAMP!

DarkStar slammed into the ground creating a small crater. A cloud of dust rises in the air all about him. Looking up from his hands and knees Commander Joshua Rose sees people and armament flying from the battered ship. That could have gone better, but it will have to do. The big man sighed heavily in relief at seeing that the heroes Laserfire and Starbolt had responded to his call for help and were evacuating the non-flyers. I owe the New Crusaders a big favor for that one. Then suddenly the air goes silent, almost the same as when Joshua gets ready to teleport . . .

KA-BLAM!!!!

A wave of light and heat wash over the crater just as Rose is about to climb out. His visor protects him from the blinding light and the heat washes over the crater edge soaking into his skin like the healing sun. A glimpse of two flying figures sends a chill through his heart. “Adamas, Cure!!!” Who the h*ll? Vlasov and Samuel told me nukes were not an option. Chaotic chatter starts across the StarCorp network, conflicting orders are shouted back and forth.

Activating the ‘alpha override’ on the comm-system DarkStar cuts a private channel through the heroes chatter. “Starbolt, thanks for catching Enforcer. I hate to impose, but I’m afraid I need you again. General Samuels said it was imperative to take this thing down in a floor by floor fight. I’m going in. I’d take it as a personal favor if you and your Crusaders could hold the back door for me. I need to know my ‘six’ is being covered by someone I can trust.” Rose starts out of the crater when he sees shadowy figures making their way through the haze. No more time for hero fights. Preparing to combat teleport to the force field entrance Red Fury went through he stops as suddenly he recognized the government golden boy and the archer who made the last minute entrance at CHESS headquarters.

***

Listening to Centurion X passionate speech he realizes the golden boy is responsible for all the death and destruction that recently rained over the battlefield … Adamas. Subduing his anger, Joshua realizes the Centurion is as new to the battlefield as DeBrandts’ mammoth tanks. “Your planning is a bit off but I can’t fault your priorities. Nothing that has happened so far counts, we have to get in the tower. There will be an ambush so I’m taking point. It is then the Archer quietly produces three arrows and quickly and efficiently explains their function. “Red nock explodes, yellow nock flashes, clear nock sonics.” The titan of transport nods in understanding and adds that information to his close quarters combat plan for breaching the tower. “Don’t sweat the radiation. Unless I miss my guess, Cure is probably healing her injuries by absorbing any ambient energy. I’m not in the mood to run into that ice giant though. Put your hands on my shoulders.”

Leading the two out of the crater DarkStar see a massive sliver of glacier pressed bluestone. Hefting the huge stone club as he double checks the holo-pad and prepares to teleport. “Let’s go.”

<DarkStar Goals:> Tom if you would be so kind, I could use a little back and forth at this point to make sure I’m visualizing the situation properly. DarkStar wants in the Tower and now. He plans on bypassing any opponents by teleporting just to the left of the force field entrance. If CX needs he can wait and do it next Turn. Regardless he will be transporting the trio and any others CX was able to pick up along the way and get the party started.

Once again unless CX does something, the heroes available should all have a saved Action for next Turn. I’m hoping the heroes can get an advantage this way during the breaching action. If I am off on any of the game mechanics please let me know and will adjust as needed before the Deadline.

PS: I really hope everyone paid close attention to the “Brains” addition at the end. It looks like it is emerging into the storyline. Always count on Tom for a twist.

Thanks much Regards
John R
------------------------------------------------------------
Starbolt acknowledges DarkStar's request. "Sure, no problem. I've got your six." To his platform passengers he says. "you guys can come along, or I can drop you off here. The choice is yours."

Jamey
------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Guys

This started out as one of my Side Shots I post in the Megalopolis Yahoo message boards but by the time I finished it seemed too relevant. As a thought, our final entries are not due for a bit. If anyone wants to discuss OOC ways to improve the breaching action on the tower I’m game. We all enjoy RPing a little differently and I respect that. As for myself, DS is assaulting the tower but definitely willing to make adjustments if anyone has something they would like to add or try.

DarkStar Assault Preparations: Stage Two

As the ‘heroes’ slip from the crater and prepare to assault the tower a whirlwind of thoughts slide through DarkStar’s hyper-intuitive mind. Rot the souls of all the bureaucrats. Magus heart is in the right place but the kid is out of his element. There are too many variables for anyone in this big of a situation. We were lucky at the castle, but the stakes are the lives of every free soul on Earth.

Casting his gaze about the haze, Joshua hopes to find the Phantom.

I don’t know how long I’m going to last, we could use another bruiser (Assault) . Enforcer’s force field would be a plus as a Support element. Security is in place at least. Thank God Starbolt agreed to guard our backdoor. We need up information updates though. I hope Black Orchid and Wraith … Harvey!!!

Focusing through his amulet to Elwood, DarkStar hopes the ‘eccentric’ understands what Joshua is trying to do. “Elwood, this is Joshua. Thanks for passing along that information from Harvey. I hate to bother you, but is there any chance he can let us know who everyone is waiting at the front door. I would never forgive myself if I did not bring the proper part favors to great out host with.

Switching to StarComms, Joshua again initiates the alpha override and broadcast on a separate wavelength to Wraith and Black Orchid. “Thanks for the information. Please stay safe. We are coming for you but need a updated status of who and where in the tower the opposition is. Stay safe, be ready.” Okay Tarot Masters, time to shuffle the deck.

OOC: Urban combat is the worst. Proper composition, team work and communication is everything. I hope this provides some RP opportunity for some of our other heroes to play a bit. As you can tell I’m having a blast. Oh wait bad timing on the pun.

Later All
John

IC:  With the whirling cloud of metal at his beck and call, CX looks at DarkStar.

"I can either be a shield or a sword.  Everyone knows and respects your decisions.  Choose."

Dave
------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: Hmmm good call on the shield or sword thing. With Centurion's versatility it depends on if or who Tom allowed you to pick up as you and Archer made your way to DS impromptu foxhole :) can you give us a hint Tom? Or prefer to wait?

Regards
John

Awesome.

Since no one in our group(s) will see Harvey's actions, I will address only you.

Harvey should still have actions saved because he has only used movement so far...

Ideally, I would like Harvey to use TK to break off a piece of the maw and take it with him as he flees.  If he is attacked before he can escape, he will evade and then escape.  If he does not need to use an action to evade, then I would like to see him create an illusion right outside the door that he escapes through.  The illusion would look like a Tex Avery rendition of Las Vegas style lights and signs pointing out the entrance/exit.  If allowed, I would have him use all of his movement to get as far as possible.

I'll write Elwood's response to everyone, like last time.

I am loving this arc!  Well done.

Mike

IC:
From Darkstar "Focusing through his amulet to Elwood, DarkStar hopes the ‘eccentric’ understands what Joshua is trying to do. “Elwood, this is Joshua. Thanks for passing along that information from Harvey. I hate to bother you, but is there any chance he can let us know who everyone is waiting at the front door. I would never forgive myself if I did not bring the proper part favors to great out host with."

Laughter emanates from Elwood and the stress that had begun to impose upon him is broken.  "That's the spirit dear sir!" says Elwood into the communicator in response to Darkstar.  "While we don't have a full head count, we should hopefully see Harvey exiting the tower in a moment and he seems to be in the midst of a game of 'keep away' which I pray won't turn into 'kill the carrier.'  See you in a bit ol' buddy."

OOC:  Tom - I hope I am not assuming too much.

No, you're good.

OOC: Awesome post Mike. I have only a hint of what half that means but awesome post. You definitely are dedicated to the character concept

Tom I edited DarkStar's part of the post to eliminate the spelling snafus. I don't think I can even blame the iPhone this time LOL Thanks

I'd planned on responding just in case. :)

IC: Adamas shakes his head, looking up at his benefactor, he thinks to himself, maybe I should have thought that through a bit more... He raises his hand... "I'm OK, thank you." comes out sounding better than he feels.  Looking back down the trench his unconscious body dug as he flew away from the impact site, he is a little surprised to see individuals moving around close to the tower.  His telescopic sight quickly kicks in trying to locate his team mates, most specifically, Elwood.

Time to finish this he thinks as he streaks across the battlefield.  He heads to Elwood first, as he comes closer, he'll turn to hover nearby, "Are you OK my friend?" Adamas says not looking at Elwood, but keeping an eye on the tower, he begins to register the dead on the battlefield, hero and villain a great sense of remorse builds within him.

OOC: Adamas will ensure Elwood is safe, staying between him and the tower.  He will close on the tower from Elwood's direction, staying at a distance from any opponents he sees, using his Power Blasts and Auto Fire on any enemies that he comes upon.

[OOC] Sorry all, life got really busy and I missed a whole round! I'm a bit confused. Hopefully this post isn't wildly off-base!

"What the hell was that?" The Black Orchid wonders when the blast occurs as she struggles to hear the Tarot Masters' conversation. She is tempted to talk on the intercom but doesn't want to give away her position. Her curiosity takes a back seat when she sees the zombies immediately change their tactics. "I hope they rely on sight and not other senses. This is my chance to see what's going on upstairs." Still invisible she bolts upstairs but runs into the darkness. She pauses, trying to see in the darkness but is (more than likely) unable to.

[OOC] I'm a bit confused? Earlier it seemed like there was a downstairs, but I don't remember an upstairs. If there is a downstairs (where the zombies were carrying things) can she get to it? If not...

"Dammit all. This is ridiculous. Some hero I've been." The Black Orchid thinks as she turns back from the stairs. She'll look at any of the Tarot Masters and prepare to blast any who get past the zombies and start going upstairs with a Devitalization Ray.

Go Team Hero

<DarkStar: IC> "Cybil, command Override Alpha, switch designated hero units to bravo level security channel and transmit the following. Include units designated Black Orchid and the Wraith."

"Tower Assault Force One. Two squads. Blue Squad: Resonator join Armorman, Fortress, , War Wagon and DarkStar at the tower entrance and combine attacks when possible and secure the ground floor. Gold Squad: Centurion, Magnetor, Blizzard, Archer and Epsilon provide fire support. Priorities are flanking or ranged enemy units. Suggest all friendlies evacuate ground floor immediately."

Focusing his thoughts once again through the amulet to the ever effervescent Elwood. "Hey Pal, tell old Harv' if he can keep away and get out now, his friends will stop the bad men from killing the carrier." ( Joshua plans for the assault take a small side step  . . . Doc' what's that boy and his buddy up to?)

DarkStar Goal: to organize and lead the Assault Force to the tower entrance. Save team Actions to maximize attacks into the entrance/ground floor of the tower. Secure communications and warn hero elements inside the tower to get out or off the ground floor immediately.

That should be all for this issue

IC:  Hearing the orders given, CX flies to a mere 10 feet above the gathering group to give support and covering fire to the assembling squad.  HIs goal, for the moment is to provide cover fire for those trying to assemble on Darkstar's position.

Over the new comm channel - "I've got High Guard until we're assembled, Gold One, Over."

OOC:  Since he is simply hovering can he attempt to make a double shot if necessary?  If not, I'm good.

Dave
------------------------------------------------------------
No, CX can’t take a double shot because his agility is below 15. So all he can do is multi-attack.

Tom
-----------------------------------------------------------
OOC:  No worries!  CX will do what he can!  :)

Dave
-----------------------------------------------------------
OOC: None of the assault team has a target of clear opportunity inside Tom's 'fog of war' area of effect. I am hoping it will cover our gathering and approach to the tower entrance long enough to get inside but you never know. :-)  So everyone had an Action unless the Ice Giant or someone else shows up.

Hopefully between Starbolt and Magus can knock out or keep occupied long enough they can secure the assault team from a flank attack when they enter the tower. Between the surprise of zombie town and what I think are some old "friends" of DarkStar from the Domain adventure it very well good use another wave of heroes ready to come in behind Gold and Blue Teams ASAP

Regards
John :-)

OOC:  Once we actually begin the approach, CX can always turn and play rear guard on our way...  :D

OOC: Just under deadline woot

<Red Hawk IC: Action and Response>

Chris overhears the heroes plan to try and take down the tower with crashed tank, but focuses on his pursuit of Skyhawk. The veteran hero turned traitor elusively weaves and dodges Red Hawk’s pursuit while racing to the aid of the Blackfire. The high-speed processor that analyzes his environment warns avian-themed adventure of danger, giving Chris just enough time to break off and roll high into the sky over the plume of the small nuclear explosion. From his highpoint, Chris’s sensors compensate as the explosion rolls outward consuming many on the villains and vigilantes in its wave of heat and light.

Over the comm unit, Red Hawk hears multiple orders and confusion seems to reign among hero and villain alike for the moment. Seeing two of the heroes of the Protectors crash in a smoking heap to the ancient hilltop, Chris scans the battlefield. He had no special skills or abilities to help others than a strong desire to make up for his once wrong deeds. Preparing to dive back down in range of his vibratory blast, Red Hawk will guard those who are down from further harm.

OOC: Red Hawk Goals – He will hold his action in order to intercept any villains that might be making a move on the downed heroes. If that does not seem to be an issue then he will do the same to protect the flank of any other heroes still in play. If there is a need for a priority then Condor and Shatterman top the list with the Super Society second, followed by any of the Crusaders.

Hope your week went well Tom
