Crusade: Secret in the Swamp - Issue 49

{Location: Everglades Florida, the Base of the Chemical Thieves}
On Level E

[9] Adamas shook his head and nodded as Manta Man brought him up to speed.  "I'll be back for the good doctor, but I need to take care of those missiles first."

Adamas launched himself into the tunnel heading to the missile silo, where he planned to separate the rockets from their payloads.  “I don't know that I have the technical knowledge to stop the count down, but they aren't going anywhere without their rockets” Adamas thought. Adamas released 5 of vision blasts at the rocket engine area.

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast bounced of the rocket’s armor paneling.
{GM: to Hit: 19, Rolled: 13, Damage Points Rolled: 5}

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast dented the rocket’s armor paneling but did not penetrate it.
{GM: to Hit: 19, Rolled: 3, Damage Points Rolled: 7}

ZZWWT!! Adamas vision blast bounced of the rocket’s armor paneling.
{GM: to Hit: 19, Rolled: 11, Damage Points Rolled: 4}

“Okay Plan B, If I cannot disable the rockets, I’ll damage the launch tubes so that they won't open” Adamas thought as he looked up preparing to use his vision blasts again.

[8] Psi-Prime flew down to Level E. “You will not stop me!” he cried as he landed next to the service tunnel leading to the rockets. He raised his right pointer and index fingers to his temple. Psi-Prime focused his great intelligence on unleashing another psychic paralysis blast at Adamas.

{GM: Psi-Prime had to make a Perception Save (INT save) to be able to attack Adamas since he can’t see him. Psi-Prime made his roll}

Psi-Prime unleashed his psychic paralysis blast upon Adamas, the blast struck Adamas’ brain attempting to stop his thoughts.

Adamas groaned as it felt as if his thoughts were seizing up like before. He resisted with all his might. The Alien Powerhouse fought off the mental attack. Adamas sighed with a mixture of relief and tiredness.
{GM: Save vs INT: 6, Rolled: 3, Adamas saved vs. Paralysis attack, Spent 3 power points to raise Save to 6}

[5] Manta-Man called out, “Adamas are you okay?” Adamas responded that he was still awake and okay.
The Aquatic Avenger looked at Psi-Prime, “Two can play at this game!” he said as he unleash his own paralysis ray.
{GM: to Hit: 15, Rolled: 2, END -3 save}

Psi-Prime made his save. He turned and looked at Manta-Man with a new respect. “Yes, you are right. There are more threats here that just the one.”

[2] Dr. Wildman arrived unseen.

On level A

[14] Skink held his action waiting to see if the Inhuman League showed up

[9] TicToc moved across the room to the last remaining enemy. It bit down on Commander Schmidt.

CHOMP!

The Prime Squadron Commander silencing thank the protective vest which stopped most of the damage, keeping it from being much worse. He would still be able to fight.
{GM: to Hit: 17, Rolled: 3, Damage Points Rolled: 8}

[7] White Heron flew through the hole in the floor of level A. She circled through the room until she reached Evergreen. White Heron slashed Evergreen with her claws.

SLASSH!

Evergreen groaned in pain but was able to continue to fight.
{GM: Damage Points Rolled: 8, -5 PP, -3 HP, No knockback since was a sharp attack}

[7] Black Orchid blasted Commander Schmidt with her vacuum blast.
{GM: to Hit: 19, Rolled: 19, Power Point Reduction Rolled: 19}

Commander Schmidt was barely able to stand. All his energy was gone. He was extremely fatigued.

[5] Prime Squaddie Oscar was entangled by Evergreen’s animated plants. They had pulled him and Tyrone to the outside on the island itself. He fired his gun in a vain attempt to free himself.

BLAM!

The bullet tore through a vine ripping it away from him but he was grappled by many other vines. He was caught and couldn’t move.

[5] Tyrone of the Prime Squadron attempted to shoot a vine with his gun.

BLAM!

Arrgh! He cried. He missed the plants but shot himself in his other arm. He was still grappled and still couldn’t move.
{GM: Rolled 20 twice! Fumble!!}

[4] Alligator couldn’t believe he had jumped right through level A onto the outside of the island. He turned from where he had landed. He ran back to the hold in the island floor. He dropped down onto the floor for Level A. He walked through the door and looked for a target. Before he could find one …

[4] Skink moved to put himself between Alligator and the other New Crusaders. He hit the Inhuman League criminal with his tail strike.

SNAP!

Skink’s tail struck the Scaly Scum with force. Alligator grunted as he rolled with the damage that got past his scaly armor. He was still standing and able to fight.
{GM: to Hit: 16, Rolled: 7, Damage Points Rolled: 9}

Alligator growled, “I love a good reptile fight.” The Scaly Scum bit Skink.
{GM: Damage Points Rolled: 18, -7 PP, -11 HP, Did not lose more than ½ HP still awake, No knockback on a sharp attack}

Skink yelled in pain from being bitten. He could still fight and would continue to fight.

[4] Evergreen decided to finish off Commander Schmidt before dealing with White Heron. She attempted multiple attacks with her thorns.

SLASSH!
{GM: to Hit: 14, Rolled: 18, missed}
SLASSH!
{GM: to Hit: 14, Rolled: 16, missed}

[2] Commander Schmidt surrendered. He dropped his gun and to his knees with his hands behind his head with his fingers laced together. He was fatigued and exhausted. He couldn’t fight any longer.

{GM: Schmidt failed his morale save (Cool Save)}

[2] Dr Wildman sighed as he dispelled the polymorh-self spell, instantly returning to his human side. He secretly admired Dr Velo or Psi-Prime or whatever-his-name-was for building a secret base without skirting on the technical standards of his elevators. He may be an evil genius but his health and safety standards were to be commended!

With the countdown now on the tannoy the clock was ticking, new priorities became urgent. He pushed the door open button and as the doors slide open there was another nimbus of green eldritch energy. With a mystical nudge of creative energy he transformed himself into a dragonfly, appropriate to the local fauna and the fastest insect in the air!

Dr Wildman flew through the elevator doors as quick as possible to the missile silo, dodging and weaving past guards and any opposing forces. He flew past Psi-Prime who didn’t see him. Dr. Wildman ended in the silo next to Adamas.

The stress and strain of the weight had been too much for the elevator. The safety brakes only held for 15 seconds then gave way. The elevator dropped down the shaft crashing at the bottom.
{GM: Dr. Wildman Elephant had a mass roll of d6+d8 which rolled 7 points. The elevator dropped 1 level in carrying capacity to d10+1 which rolled 3 points. The elevator failed its save roll. It crashed.}

On level B

[4] Spyder was miffed. StrikeForce had his face fully covered. Spyder couldn’t see the reaction he had on his opponent. The Inhuman League Leader assumed a defensive fighting position and watched the Bionic Brawler. He was looking for a weakness he could exploit. Spyder knew he would detect what he was looking for.

[4] Tank Gunner screamed “The Yanks are coming!” as he charged StrikeForce with his bayonet!

KLANG!

StrikeForce’s armor turned the attack away. The bayonet couldn’t penetrate StrikeForce’s protection.
{GM: Damage Points Rolled: 6, all stopped by Kinetic Protection}

[3] Staring at Spyder, StrikeForce showed no emotion as he connected his escrima sticks into a staff. Activating his comm. link, StrikeForce told his teammates. "I have taken down the Prime Squadron guards on this level. I have been engaged by Spyder and Tank Gunner. There is also a winged individual near the opening that Adamas created on this level." StrikeForce used his staff to attack Spyder.

WHAM!

StrikeForce was able to get past Spyder’s fighting defensive defense, knocking him across the room toward the far wall.
{GM: to Hit: 9, Rolled: 9, Damage Points Rolled: 24}

Spyder was knocked back toward the hole in the wall made by the Prime Squadron guard. Spyder flew through the hole.
{GM: Spyder made his luck roll, so he missed hitting the wall}

Spyder slammed into the reinforced wall outside the elevator shaft. Spyder cracked the concrete wall as he bounced off it. Spider web of cracks ran up and down the wall but a hole was not made. Spyder flew back toward the room he came from. He went through the hole in the wall again.
{GM: Spyder made his luck roll, so he missed hitting the wall}

Spyder landed on his feet on the floor. He had been battered and bruised but he rolled with most of the damage. He looked up at StrikeForce. “Not back for an amateur, let me show you what a professional can do.”
{GM: Spyder made his Agility save to avoid being knocked prone onto the floor}

Launch sequence has commenced. Man your stations! Man your Stations! Launch will commence in 110 seconds.

 Another great issue, thanks Tom.

OOC: Apologies Tom if I may have asked this before but the gate/teleport spell that Dr Wildman can use; I had more in mind like Dr Strange (Marvel movies) than Nightcrawler - opening a portal that he steps through - a sort of 2 way door between distant points. I'm aware that in VV2 this had differing rules - can I assume this is the same with VV3. As I didn't make this clear when I constructed the character can you advise me what I need to do to make this more portal like - perhaps upgrading the power once experience points have been earned etc. or perhaps as he hasn't actually used this spell yet there might be wiggle room to make a change?

Cheers
Steve
------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Steve, I checked you character sheet. Your teleportation is a Gate, so it opens a 5 ft x 5 ft (1 inch square in game terms) immobile gate. The gate consists of two separate 'doorways'. One must be created direct adjacent to the character. while the other is placed at the teleport's destination. It is the other's placement that requires the directly sensing, memorization, or other way of knowing where to place. If not know, then the IN save is need to successfully place.

Both doorways are bi-directional; they can be entered from either side. The traveler instantly emerges from the corresponding side of the other door. Senses can't penetrate Teleportation Gates. Characters and objects can freely move back and forth through the teleport gate until it closes.

I think you have everything you wanted for the teleportation. Let me know if you have any more questions or if something isn't exactly how you wanted it.

Thanks
Tom

 Thanks Tom, that is perfect!

 Tom,

Can StrikeForce's sense detect how many are on the same level he is on?

Jamey
----------------------------------------------------------------------
StrikeForce can see Spyder and Tank Gunner. In the distance he can hear the sound of large flapping wings. He believes it is across the level close to the Adamas sized hole he had jumped through. He cannot pick up any sounds of anyone or anything else on this level.

 Tom,
What information does StrikeForce have/ is able to get about Spyder? IE: Powers, weaknesses, pertinent history? Also, was he one of the villains that is responsible for Freedom Eagles death in your game?

Jamey
--------------------------------------------------------------------
StrikeForce knows that Spyder has enhanced strength and endurance and is extremely agile. Spyder is an excellent martial artist. StrikeForce sees that Spyder has wall crawling ability. He also see that Spyder has a Katana scabbard strapped to his back and the sword is in it. StrikeForce has heard that Spyder has a paralysis strike but there are disagreements on its source. One half of the Superhuman "experts" believe it is a martial arts hand strike but the other half believe Spyder has venom that is delivered by the hand strike. No one has been able to find evidence that would settle the dispute.

The Superhuman Conspiracy community believes that Spyder murdered Freedom Eagle but there isn't enough evidence for CHESS to indict him on it. (Spyder was involved in the murder of Freedom Eagle).

Tank Gunner has no known super abilities. The best StrikeForce can find out is, that Tank Gunner is an experienced fighter with access to equipment beyond the typical person. He is physically more capable than anyone in the Prime Squadron but isn't considered super.

Thanks
Tom

Staring at Spyder, StrikeForce, shows no emotion as he connects his escrima sticks into a staff. Activating his comm link, StrikeForce will tell his teammates. StrikeForce will use his staff to attack Spyder.

OOC: StrikeForce will push damage to take Spyder down as quickly as possible, since all information points to him being incredibly dangerous and lethal.

Jamey
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you switching to Offensive combat style or staying in Defensive?

Thanks
Tom
--------------------------------------------------------------------
 He will switch to offensive.

Thanks,
Jamey

 For some reason "SIZE OF AN ELEPHANT!"  reminds me of the wonder twins :)

IC: Adamas shakes his head and nods as Manta Man brings him up to speed.  "I'll be back for the good doctor, but I need to take care of those missiles first."

Adamas launches himself into the tunnel heading to the missile silo, where he will attempt to separate the rockets from their payloads.  I don't know that he has the technical knowledge to stop the count down, but they aren't going anywhere without their rockets.  If he cannot disable the rockets, he'll damage the launch tubes so that they won't open, using his vision blasts.

OOC: Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

Jon
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"SIZE OF AN ELEPHANT” comes from a memory of the Arabian Knights cartoon from the Banana Splits TV show of my youth. Bez the Beast was the character, a shape shifter...I checked Wikipedia

I feel Dr Wildman may adopt a similar method of mystically polymorphing himself. "SIZE OF A DRAGONFLY!"

Steve
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Adamas can damage either. I have created the Rockets as Vehicles so he can blast them but it is possible the tubes are easier to damage. Would you like to pick or have Adamas perform an Intelligence Save for the easier to damage?

Thanks
Tom
---------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: I think that Spyder is going to be unhappy, since StrikeForce's mask will not show any emotion.

Jamey
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, you are right Spyder will be a little miffed.
