Bonesnapper: Interview with an Assassin - Issue 2

The grieving artist life has been turned upside down.  The loss of the love of his life has lead him meeting with three men he never would have chosen to meet with. They are Sergeant Investigator Barry Carlton of the Megalopolis Police, CHESS Agent Prince, and The Megalopolis Mirror newspaper reporter Paul Anderson.

Agent Price asks if he has had dealings with Super criminal Od, gang Avant Guard, or used Jimmy Cocker as an Art Dealer. Bonesnapper looks at Prince and shakes his head. "Never heard of him, but if he's involved in this, then I want to know. I haven't sold anything to him or his gang, so far as I know. I have used Cocker on occasion, but I wasn't aware that he was involved with super criminals."

The reporter speaks next. “Have you heard of CRIME?  It is a crime organization which a structure similar to the mafia as it is made of different independent branches usually called families. I am attempting to identify the leaders of each of the families in Megalopolis. I believe one leader is Stewart Rhodes.  It is possible his family was responsible for sending “The Message”.

In response to the reporter's query, Bonesnapper snarls, "What makes you think that this Rhodes person was involved?"  Anderson replies he has found an assassin that used to work for Rhodes.  He is going to interview the assassin to find out about Rhodes connection to CRIME and what recent activities have been directed by Rhodes

Bonesnapper decides to go with him to find Rhodes. Getting in Anderson’s car, the reporter has trouble hiding his excitement.  Anderson says he has been searching for a solid lead on Rhodes for the last four months.  He thinks this interview could be the chink in the CRIME armor.

The assassin they are meeting was dubbed the ‘Bungee Jumper Killer’. This was because he carried out his assassination by using an elastic ‘bungee cord’ either attached to the side of a building or the under belly of a helicopter.  The Jumper drops down into the middle of his victims, makes his move, and is yanked away before anyone can do anything about it.  His gimmick gives him the element of surprise, as well as an instant escape route.

Soon they arrive at Diamantes restaurant.  Anderson explains this restaurant was the choice of the Jumper.  It is believed Diamantes is connected.  He doesn’t believe it is run by CRIME. At the entrance they are greeted by Hostess Stacy.  She walks them to the Private Dining Area.  On the way the reporter says hi to the Bartender Rex Simmons, “T-Rex I will have the usual. What do you want Michael?”

When they arrive at their private room, they sent the assassin is already here and running up Anderson’s tab. At first the ‘Bungee Jumper’ is reluctant to give up his former employer but with a little monetary persuasion he changes his mind.

He details how Rhodes is a family head with CRIME.  He has done jobs removing businessmen and politicians.  He can’t believe that Rhodes has locked him out.  Bonesnapper focusing on the Jumpers eyes knows why he was cut loose.  The Jumper is enjoying more than wine tonight.  Michael can’t tell if it is cocaine or one of the custom creations.   “Maybe Rhodes was afraid of your appetite.”  The Jumper mistakenly takes the artist’s comment as a compliment.

Their waiter Dave brings the drinks order, asks if they would like to start with the appetizer or order their meals now. Dave lets them know the herbed roast rack of lamb is exceptionally good tonight.

Nodding, the Jumper states he has never done an inside job.  He knows that Rhodes has hired the Blades gang to do jobs before.  They specialize in making assassinations look like home robberies gone wrong. He provides the location of their house.

The Jumper then starts telling that Rhodes has started something big.  He has called a meeting of local crime leaders of gangs or super teams.  He is building alliances to expand the network of this Crime family.  The meeting will be in four hours in his Soiree Heights sales office.  Hearing this Anderson is ready to leave.  He explains that he already has rented an office in the building across from Rhodes office.  He has equipment in the trunk of his car which would allow him to spy on Rhodes.  With a huge smile, Anderson adds, “I have also bugged his office.”

Do you want to go with Anderson?

Do you want to continue talking with the ‘Bungee Jumper Killer”?

Do you want visit with the Blades?

If Anderson offers a reasonable excuse (such as Rhodes having a criminal record or having been charged with crimes), then Bonesnapper will go with him to find Rhodes. Otherwise, he is going to search for Od.

GM reply:  Anderson tells you he has found an assassin that used to work for Rhodes.  He is going to interview the assassin to find out about Rhodes connection to CRIME and what recent activities have been directed by Rhodes.

I believe that is a reasonable enough excuse.  If it isn't let me know.

Thanks

That will be sufficient. Off to find Mr. Rhodes, then.
