Archer: It is not yours - Issue 6

“Nezha's rotted bones!” Archer curses; his ambush is going slower than planned.  He has successfully destroyed the 3 motorcycles of the Nicotines.  Instead of running away afraid, they have pulled their weapons and fought back. He figured on having defeated at least 1 by now instead all 3 are in the fight.

The bowman will do all he can to prevent the Blue Xiang from entering the streets of America. Even pretending he is a member of his mortal enemies, Talons of the Jade Emperor.

"Gossamer was right, Americans talk too much." twang , twang , thunk , thunk "Your bikes are down, and the drugs were never yours. One last chance . . . leave."

The first arrow flies true, striking Lucky Strike in the chest.  He attempts to keep from falling but the force is too much. He falls to the ground and quickly loses consciousness from the blood loss.  The second arrow flies unimpeded toward Marlboro. It pierces his heart. Marlboro falls to the ground dead. [-2 PR for second shot]

“Assassin!” Invulnero yells as he aims his shotgun. “I don’t know who Gossamer is but YOU have raised the stakes.  What was business is now war!”

BOOM! The shotgun blast sounds as Invulnero fires.  His aim is true.  [GM Note: 13 damage, -5 to PR, remaining -8 to hit points]. Archer is hurt but that doesn’t slow him down.  He quickly fires two more arrows. The first arrow skewers Marlboro’s saddlebags. Blue Xiang pours out the bag to the ground

"I said the drugs were never yours."

The second shot flies high and misses Lucky Strike’s bag.  The bewildered Bowman can’t believe he missed.  It is then he notices that his vision is blurry.  He is feeling light headed. Archer looks down and sees he is bleeding … badly.

[GM Note: The shotgun attack had a successful Killing Attack carrier attack.  Archer made his Endurance save but failed his Agility save.  He lost all his Power Points.  The attack on the saddle bags he had to spend 4 hit points to do it. The second action cost 2 and the multi-attack was 2].

Quickly he stops the bleeding.  He listens from his position for Invulnero’s next action. [GM Note: Archer has used all movement up, so his can’t use his Hgt. Senses].  He listens to footsteps and grunting.  Invulnero has lifted something heavy.  Archer listens to the sound of footsteps walking away from him.

He focuses on his breathing, slowing the flow of blood in his body.  He is surprised to hear the sound of police sirens.  Archer decides it would be best to not be found.  As he starts to move he looks to see where the police are.  They have blocked the alleyway.  They did not enter the alley but are watching from behind their cars.

“Chief Ravage has sent our instructions personally”, calls the officer of car 601.  “We are to secure the perimeter but are not to enter.  The fight had at least 2 metas involved.  There are two CHESS knights on their way”.

The surprised officer of car 413 yells. “Really? The tipster must either be reliable or connected to get both Megalopolis PD and CHESS to respond”.

The wounded Vigilante moves to find a place to hide.  He can’t be found by CHESS.  He finds a maintenance door on the roof. He quickly picks the lock and crawls into the entrance.  He quickly used his senses to determine that the building is abandoned.  Secure that he won’t be found from someone in the building, he checks to make sure his wounds haven’t re-opened.

He pauses as he hears the sound of flying vehicles.  He hasn’t heard the sound before in person, only on the T.V. from the Crusher Crimewave coverage. It is the sound of CHESS Skycycles.

He listens as the 2 CHESS Knights take up position.

“Knight 1 on location.”

“Knight 2 in position.”

“Location is secure.  No sign of Metas in the area.  There is one dead gang member and three destroyed bikes.  Each bike has the mentioned saddle bags on them. Two saddle bags are ruined with the contents spilled over the area and the third one is intact.”

“CHESS Rook 5, we have blood evidence on the roof but no trail.  Permission to track wounded Vigilante.”

“Please note in log my disagreeing Rook 5; Vigilante could get away before Bishop Codename Prince arrives on scene.”

“Understood, Rook 5, we will maintain perimeter security, Knight 1 over and out”.

Knight 2 speaks, “Did I hear right, Not only is Prince in route but a MEDUSA Tactical Squad as well?”

Knight 1,”Affirmative, I don’t know what that blue tinted power is but this is more serious than a couple of Metas upping the stakes.”

Knight 2, “I wonder what it could be that would turn us into a couple of babysitters?”

Replies to Issue 5: If it wasn't for Bad Luck . . .

OOC: Are you kidding me?
I think the only thing that went right that Turn was convincing the Nicotines I might be a Talon of the Jade Emperor.
Lead biker ends up having Invulnerability
Marlboro rolls a "1" to hit
Invulnero hits also with a "?"
Archer hits a pigeon . . . on a "20"
. . . which of course spoiled the really cool Batman vibe he had going.
Sigh . . . You know, I've always had the worst luck rolling in games with automatic to hit or miss rolls.

Okay then down to buisness.

[Archer: IC] Nezha's rotted bones!

[Goals] Doggedly the same. Relieving the Nicotines of the blue xiang. I was really hoping to be able to focus on
confronting Invulnero this Turn, but what's a hero to do? The good thing is the bikes have been disabled and the
bad guys will have to spend time trying to unstrap the saddle bags.

[Action #1] I know Daniel's been doing Willpower training in the "side shots" but multiple attacks seem to be the
order of the day for combat options. What are the odds he'll hit two pigeons in one evening? Maybe the fact the
targets will be attempting to unstrap the saddle bags will give him a to hit bonus? Time to quit fooling around.

***Multiple Attack: 1 shot, 2 targets, 2 broadheads, 1 each to the chest of both Marlboro and Lucky Strike.***

[Reply] "Gossamer was right, Americans talk too much." twang , twang , thunk , thunk (hopefully) "Your bikes are
down, and the drugs were never yours. On last chance . . . leave."

[Action #2]
A) If the arrows did not hit Marlboro and Lucky Strike, use Action #1 rinse, wash, repeat (minus the snappy banter)
B) If the arrows hit, and Invulnero chooses to leave (sans saddle bags) Archer lets him leave.
C) If the arrows hit and Invulnero stays, Archer will Multiple Attack the 2 saddle bags of blue xiang still in good
condition, with 2 broad heads, distinctly pinning the product to the bikes.

Assuming the arrows hit the saddle bags
[Reply] "I said the drugs were never yours."

[Movement] Using his stealth and concealment skills, Archer will half move to a new location still using Spatial
Awareness at double range.

[Goals] I'm trying to recover the drugs and create a context in which Invulnero will be convinced the Talon's have
double-crossed the Nicotines. They already started to buy it in last Issue. By playing up his accent, and using an
anti-american attitude, Daniel is trying to reinforce that thought pattern. Dropping Gossamer's name and pinning the
drugs to the bikes (wasted action?) should further reinforce the ideal to Invulnero that he is ... not important enough
to waste time on. That it truly is the recovery  of the drugs, and this is a message that the Nicotines were laughably
foolish to ever think they were going to be dealt with honestly.

[OOC] I'm not happy about using the broad heads on the bikers but they upped their threat level by actually winging the
acrobatic archer. I felt at this stage of his career he might have what he would later consider an over-reaction to the
gunshots.

I'm hoping Invulnero is as smart as he is thick headed, and decides this isn't a good battlefield for his style of combat.
That, and the drugs are gonna be a bitch to get off the bikes, now. I've given him a perfectly good excuse to leave. Mates
down, drugs out of play, and an assailant with the advantage of position. Or he could be a rock-head and next turn we'll
go mano-a-mano.

I couldn't possibly have that same bad luck again could I?

As always a blast
John R
