Codename: Red Hawk: Field Trip - Issue 10

Location: Memorial Park in Our Fair City

The Bishop introduced himself. His codename is Prince.
Bishop Prince, Shatterman, and Red Hawk walked toward the entrance of the park as they explained to the CHESS agent the details of the bomb threat and the ambush.

"Den ... er ... Shatterman, I think I hit one of these officers trying to take the woman with the gun down." Running over to the police he tried to see if there is anything he could do to help. "What happened? What was all this about? I don't understand why they did this? It's just a park." Chris rambled a bit nervously. "I'm going to beat the asphalt from that little dark dwarf next time I see him." Suddenly realizing Brian was nowhere in sight,  "Shatterman, where is Condor?"

Shatterman looked around in a panic then flew off in the direction of the lake. Before Red Hawk could follow Bishop Prince placed his hand on this shoulder to stop him. “Sorry, I have a few more questions for you. I will have the Knights and Rooks help Shatterman find Condor.”

“Of course. I feel like I should have done so much more, anything I can do to help.”

As Prince spoke into his comm. unit giving instructions Red Hawk understood the reason the CHESS Bishop had stopped him. Several policemen were looking on him with hostility. Officer Kyle Worth started screaming for Red Hawk to be arrested for assaulting a police officer. Officer Henry Riley stepped between Kyle and Chris. He gently guided Officer Worth a few steps away from the situation. He explained that it is a CHESS affair. He can file the complaint for being assaulted but the MPD cannot make the arrest. After he calmed down, he indicated he did want to press charges.

Bishop Prince let out a heavy sigh. “Okay, let’s get the facts straight. First Red Hawk helped with getting the civilians out of danger from the bomb?” Officer Riley agreed. It was he that had been with Red Hawk at the locked gate. “But the gate wasn’t really locked. It was an illusion.”

“But later a woman came running up to Officer Worth claiming Red Hawk was chasing her trying to hurt her?” Officer Worth nodded in agreement.  The Bishop turned to Red Hawk, “Is that true were you after her?”

“Absolutely. She was working with the rest of the BAD guys.

“The little guy was creating illusions all over the place. I had just dealt with an image of American Woman moments before. I would never had fired at her if I had known there were real police officers around her. I’d have went in hand to hand and tried to snatch her from above.”

Prince looked to Officer Riley. “Did you believe what she said? That Red Hawk was attacking civilians?”

Officer Riley mumbled. “Well, yes. She was very persuasive”

Prince looked at everyone in turn? “Anything else you can tell me about her?”

Shatterman and the Knights at this point returned with Condor. He was found unconscious near the lake. It appeared he had been in it when the explosion had occurred.

Prince spoke to the Officers.”Thank you very much gentlemen. Officer Worth if you want to file the complaint please come down to CHESS HQ when you are able.”

The Bishop instructed the Rooks to take Condor to the third van. He would be provided medical attention. “Red Hawk you are not under arrest. This is a procedural matter will have to follow but it will be more like an inquiry against your DSA Superhero License as oppose to arresting a criminal for assaulting a police officer. I do need you and Shatterman to come to CHESS HQ with me.

“I have the remains of this bomb. There remains of a different bomb that was set off in Center City. DeathKite will need interviewing. Finally there is a case file on B.A.D you can have access to if you’re interested”.

“I will bring Condor in the van so the CHESS doctors can fix him up.”

“Will you come?”

After looking at Dennis to see if it was the right thing to do Red Hawk nodded and answered, “Certainly, Shatterman if you don’t mind, I’ll follow along in just a minute.” Uncertain of what he was trying to accomplish, Chris just ‘knew’ he couldn’t leave without trying to do something to make up for his mistake.

Seeing the anger still expressed on some of the police, Red Hawk walked up to the Officer who had interceded earlier. “Officer Riley? I’d apologize to Officer Worth, but he doesn’t look receptive at the moment … and I don’t blame him. I can only promise you I will continue to train with Condor and Shatterman every day to get better.”

“That is all we can ask of any of us isn’t it, Red Hawk? Don’t worry too much about this. Dealing with B.A.D. Momma is frustrating. It is not the first time she has hood winked us. That makes it easy to lash out at others for another failure in bringing her in. Just give the others some space and anything you can do to help bring B.A.D. down will help this pass.

Red Hawk joined Shatterman and Condor for the ride to CHESS HQ. DeathKite was escorted to the containment cells. To escort the three heroes to the lab area was Knight Seth Demaris. “It will be a few hours before DeathKite is processed. When that is done you will be able to interview him if you like.”

“We have taken the bomb components to Lab 1. You are welcome to assist in the assessment of it.”

“We also have the remains of another bomb in Lab 2. It was set off in Center City. You are welcome to review it to see if there might be any connection to the two.”

When they arrived at Lab 1 they were introduced to Rook level technical agent Stuart Getman whose specialty is chronological physics and Rook level technical agent Phoebe Lynd. She is a leading expert in particle physics.

Unfortunately before they could start the research, Knight Demaris’ comm. unit signaled the utmost priority code. He stepped outside the lab for a brief moment. Coming back into the room he expressed his apologizes but CHESS and the DSA are activating the Earth Protection Clause in the Super Hero Act. The three heroes are needed immediately in another part of headquarters. They will be met there shortly by the Co-Director of CHESS, Alexandria Huffington.

Red Hawk, Shatterman, and Condor were escorted to CHESS’ largest conference room for the briefing.

There were more superheroes there than Red Hawk even knew existed. He saw the members of the Super Society talking to a group of heroes he had never seen before.

Shatterman guided him over to three heroes. “Condor and Red Hawk I would like you to meet Skyhawk, Magnetor and Kali. We were spotlighted in Capes magazine. Kali’s article was on the stresses and issue with reformed villains going straight. Skyhawk’s was on the fine line a vigilante walks between hero and villain. Magnetor was on international heroes and what that is like. Of course mine was about what it was like to carry on the mantle of a legendary Super Hero. Remember Condor you had turned down the interview.”

Condor replied, “Yeah I remember. It is a pleasure to meet all of you.”

Red Hawk saw a new group of heroes enter the room. Some of them looked familiar. He had seen their photos on newscasts. They had been missing during the Crushers Crimewave.

The one which the newscasters had called Laserfire blew a soft low whistle. “This is the largest gathering of heroes I have ever seen. What kind of field trip is Co-Director Huffington taking us on?”
This is a pause in the B.A.D. saga because we are transitioning to our annual Megalopolis crossover event. Enjoy introducing yourselves to the other players in the other games. You will be briefed on the World Crisis that is happening by CHESS next issue.

Codename: Red Hawk: Shatterman, Where is Condor? - Issue 9

Location: Memorial Park in Our Fair City

Shatterman and Red Hawk stood over the defeated Deathkite. They surveyed the park to make sure the rest of B.A.D. had escaped. Shatterman pointed to the trucks which were pulling into the park’s parking lot. One was an armored truck the rest were not.  All appeared to have high tech communication equipment attached. “That would be CHESS arriving to secure the area. Those are Rook agents. It won’t be long before 3 to 4 Knights and a Bishop arrive.”

Shatterman waved to get the attention of the arriving Rooks. He showed them the unconscious Deathkite and pointed to the location of the bomb. Two Rooks picked up Deathkite securing him in handcuffs and ankle cuffs. They carried him to the armored van.

A group of 5 Rooks went to the statue with the bomb. They quickly and silently removed from the statue. It was loaded into a different van.

A strange sound was heard overhead. Red Hawk saw for the first time up close the CHESS Skycycles. Three were being flow by armor wearing CHESS Agents. Shatterman informed Chris those were the Knights. The other Agent was wearing a suit.  Only the Bishop landed while the Knights circled the park from the air.

The Bishop introduced himself. His codename is Prince.

Holy Cow

Good Issues. More going on than I can easily keep up with all things considered. I'll have to work on improving Red Hawk's fighting techniques. :)

Quick question to start the next issue. Did Red Hawk see Condor dive into the lake while they were flying around? If so he'll immediately dive into the lake thinking Condor might be unconscious. If he didn't see him then dialog with Shatterman will be the starting point ... and apparently an aiding and apologizing  to the police while trying to get those who need it medical assistance.

Thanks Tom
John
--------------------------------------------------------------------
GM: I did a quick detect hidden roll on whether Red Hawk saw Condor dive into the lake. Det Hidden is 48% and roll was 57% so No, Red Hawk did not see where Condor had gone. I rolled Shatterman as well. He did not see Condor either.

So both do not know that Condor dived into the lake.

Tom

Codename: Red Hawk: What's the Point? - Issue 8

Location: Memorial Park in Our Fair City

In a section of Memorial park the police had blocked the entrances. Today the park was not open to the public. Today it was a battlefield. The sides were the B.A.D. guys versus the defenders of right: Condor, Shatterman, and Red Hawk. So far only one of B.A.D. had fallen beaten but since there were more to them the fight was still far from being decided.

The police looked with surprise when a woman came running toward them from the battlefield. They thought they had gotten everyone out. “Please help me,” she cried,”There is a man dressed a hawk. He is after me. I don’t know why he wants to hurt me. Please officers help me.”

Kudebuck moved as fast as his stunted legs would carry him. He looked desperately for a large enough group of bushes to hide in. When he found one suitable he crawled on his belly to get underneath its branches. He looked like a gray mouse trying to hide from a hawk. This wasn’t too far from the truth. When he was inside he thought about what would fool his pursuer the best. He smiled a wickedly as an image came to mind.

Shatterman circled back around flying straight at Cosmic Zoom.

ZAP!

He fired his power blast at him, hitting him in the gap in his armor. Unfortunately it was a glancing blow which did not slow Cosmic Zoom at all. Cosmic Zoom charged forward raising his sword. To his surprise he had charged in to a group of trees getting stuck. He couldn’t reach Shatterman. He couldn’t step past the branches and tree trunks. With a curse Cosmic Zoom shrunk down into the mini forest. He disappeared from sight.

Shatterman hovered waiting to see what Cosmic Zoom did next.

After having flown through a tree trunk, Red Hawk shook his head, thankful for the protection built into his uniform, Red Hawk looked up from amidst the shattered ruins of the tree, I need to get above the terrain and quick. Flying fifty feet straight up above the battleground that the Park had turned into, Chris analyzed the position of all the combatants. What’s the point of them staying here battling us? It’s not a bank, there’s nothing valuable here … is there? … or is it all just a distraction? Looking from his “hawk’s eye” view he tried find Dennis and see if there is something they’ve failed to notice. It doesn’t really matter; these guys need to be taken into custody and quick.

Red Hawk flew back to where he had last seen Kudebuck. To his surprise he found someone else there. It was a member New Super Society, the beautiful American Woman.
She was sunbathing in a bikini. She indicated she wanted him to join her, asking him to land. Red Hawk wasn’t fooled by the illusion but he wasn’t able to spot the mental mite either. He flew off looking for B.A.D. Momma.

He spotted her at the edge to the park. She was surrounded by 5 policemen. Red Hawk was surprised to see they weren’t arresting her but instead they were moving into position to protect her. Could it be they were trying to protect her from him?

ZBBMM!

He fired a vibe blast at BAD Momma but she was sheltered by a uniform human wall. Instead he his blast struck a police officer. To Red Hawk’s surprise the policeman’s image didn’t disburse as the other illusions had when struck. Instead the officer fell to the ground unconscious. The other 4 officers withdrew their revolvers. The lead officer demanded that Red Hawk give up and land.

SWARMaster flew higher out of Condor’s reach. “I brought locusts especially for you! Eat his suit my lovelies!” The insects swarmed Condor. They damaged his suit more. It had gotten to the point that more than half of its protection was gone.

In a panic Condor flew away from the insects. He had to protect the suit that had been given to him by Freedom Eagle. He dove into the lake. As he swam deeper to make sure the insects were gone he spotted a shadow in the distance. It might have been a man. Before he could get close enough to tell for sure the water around him erupted.

KABOOM! KABOOM! KABOOM! KABOOM!

All around the park micro bombs and smoke bombs went off. The ground shook. Dust flew into the sky. Smoke obscured all visibility.

When the air had cleared all the members of B.A.D. were gone with the exception of Death Kite. Who was still unconscious on the ground. All 4 of the policeman had been knocked unconscious as well.

Shatterman and Red Hawk landed next to where Death Kite was. Condor was nowhere in sight.

I'm enjoying the simple nature of the combat at the moment for Redhawk, I haven't focused on his "persona" yet and I find the voice of a naive but eager kid wanting to do good developing.

(Last Issue) Using his heightened senses he found the Amazing Kudebuck hiding in bushes. The dwarf hadn’t even created an illusion to hide himself. Red Hawk fired a vibe blast at the infamous illusionist and missed.
The Amazing Kudebuck looked at Red Hawk and everything went black. Red Hawk couldn’t see. He reached out with his other senses to find a way out of the darkness. He couldn’t find a way out but he did sense a tree approaching. With a quick shift of his body he tried to fly past it. His reflexes weren’t fast enough. Red Hawk smashed into the tree truck splitting the tree into 3 pieces as he flew through it.

(Currently) Shaking his head, thankful for the protection built into his uniform, Redhawk look up from amidst the shattered ruins of the tree, I need to get above the terrain and quick. Flying fifty feet straight up above the battleground that the Park was turning into, Chris analyzed the position of all the combatants. What’s the point of them staying here battling us? It’s not a bank, there’s nothing valuable here … is there? … or is it all just a distraction? Looking from his “hawk’s eye” view he tries find Dennis and see if there is something they’ve failed to notice. It doesn’t really matter, these guys need to be taken into custody and quick.

Redhawk Actions: If Kude –chewer is still visible he’ll try to take him out with all the vibratory power he’s got, if not the he’ll move on to the Angie look-a-like.

OOC: I assume his Vibratory defense is still up? and I know it's a little vain, but could you post a character sheet for Redhawk on the Megalopolis site. He'll seem more part of the M-Universe to me that way.

Thanks Tom

Codename: Red Hawk: Hiding in Plain Site - Issue 7

Location: Memorial Park in Our Fair City

In a section of Memorial park kids did not play and parents did not talk as they watched. Here was a battlefield. The sides were the B.A.D. guys versus the defenders of right: Condor, Shatterman, and Red Hawk. So far only one of B.A.D. had fallen beaten but since there were more to them the fight was still far from being decided.

Condor swooped over and above SWARMaster. He dove back down smashing into his armor, denting it.

“You’re going down Bugman!”

“Not by you Cantdor! B.A.D. will triumphant today”

SWARMaster barrel rolled away from his opponent.

“Oh yeah, I know all about the rest of the bozos and they can’t beat anyone”

“I don’t need them to defeat the like of you, Cantdor”

“Oh yeah, you and want army?”

“Me and my insect army!”

A swarm of insects covered Condor. They tried to get past his armor and a few succeed. Condor endures their bites with resiliency. The insects are tiring him more than anything else.

Shatterman took flight from the tree top he was in. He stared a hard look at Cosmic Zoom and then flew in the other direction.

“Cosmic Zoom! I am getting my butt kicked by a dork calling himself Cosmic Zoom!” This is ridiculous. As much as I hate it I need to buy myself a little time to heal.” Shatterman thought to himself.

He flew further in the heavily wooded area to keep out of the giant’s reach as he regenerates and recovered from his beating. Cosmic Zoom screams in frustration! “I’m winning! You choose to run what kind of hero are you! Come back here you coward!” Cosmic Zoom ran after him but the trees slowed him down. He was unable to reach Shatterman.

B.A.D. Momma showed a grim smile as she aimed her energy Luger. “Hurt my boy will ya?” She fired striking Red Hawk in the chest but the beam was unable to penetrate his skin.

{GM Note: 9 points of damage all to Invulnerability, Invulnerability now 1 point}.

Concerned for Dennis’s well-being, Red Hawk almost considered double teaming the big guy with the sword. He says he’s okay but, taking a blow like that had to have hurt even someone tough as Dennis. He takes another shot like that, I don’t care if he waves me off or not that giant is going down. For now Red Hawk decided the fastest way to really help his friend was to get this battle over with. We need to find whoever is creating these illusions.

Using his heightened senses he found the Amazing Kudebuck hiding in bushes.

Red Hawk smashed into the tree truck splitting the tree into 3 pieces as he flew through it.

{GM Note: Successful Detect Hidden rolls to find Kudebuck and the tree. Failed Agility save as per Darkness rules. The total damage was 8 points. Since this is greater than structure rating for wood so half to the tree and half to Red Hawk. Red Hawk took 4 points damage: -1 to Invulnerability and -3 to Power Points}

John,

Okay, let’s see here. Condor has chosen Swarm Master, Shatterman confronted Cosmic Zoom. Given his inexperience I guess that leaves the woman for Red Hawk. He would assume with their experience and confident attitudes they are okay. Even with some reservations concerning Shatterman seeming to be taking a beating.

Red Hawk IC: Concerned for Dennis’s well-being Red Hawk almost considers double teaming the big guy with the sword. He says he’s okay but, taking a blow like that had to have hurt even someone tough as Dennis. He takes another shot like that, I don’t care if he waves me off or not that giant is going down. For now Red Hawk decides the fastest way to really help his friend was to get this battle over with. We need to find whoever is creating these illusions.

Red Hawk Actions: Chris will take a second and try to use his hi-tech senses to discover the source of the illusions. If he finds it he will attack it, if unsuccessful he will go for a shot on the Angie look-a-like.

OOC: I have an idea but I thought I’d keep it super simple this Turn. If he does not discover the source of the illusions I was thinking next Turn, he might send out a vibratory wave in all directions. Its frequency would be based on the successful results from the gate as a way to discover the source of the illusions. A power stunt idea born from earlier events. If you don’t want the power to be able to do that, that is very cool. We don’t need to get into any Spatial Awareness situations

Codename: Red Hawk: We can handle these Guys! - Issue 6

Location: Memorial Park in Our Fair City

Landing on the ground, Red Hawk fell to his knees. He fought to stay awake. His vision blurred as he saw the oak tree image disappear to be replaced by a giant man in a deep sea diving suit. Giant diver was carrying a giant sword.

Red Hawk’s systems came back online. His vision cleared. While he was on his knees he was wide awake.

Chris kept his vibratory defenses active and moved to cover Condor, hoping to give his mentor an opportunity to work on the bomb.

"Condor handle the bomb. Shatterman and I can handle these guys."

He took to the soared behind Death Kite who had attack him earlier. Death Kite had been over confident that his successful attack had knocked Red Hawk out. He was focusing on attacking Condor and was unaware of Red Hawk’s approach

VZZT!

Red Hawk struck Death Kite with a single vibe blast incapacitating him. This time his opponent fell to the ground but instead he would not be getting up any time soon.

{GM Note: Red Hawk’s agility is not high enough for a dual attack. I chose a single attack instead on multiple attack}

BLZZT!

From the distance an older attractive woman (think Angie Dickenson or Jane Seymour) fired a blaster at Red Hawk and missed.

Condor took off from the ground. "Thanks Red Hawk but I have all the data I need. It is time for us to show B.A.D that coming to Our Fair City was a mistake"

Whiff

Condor flew by SWARMaster. His punch missed him.

SWARMaster blasted another set of stings at Condor. All the stingers struck his armor without any damaging him. "I will get through your armor soon Condor and then my venom with take you out."

BLRRZT!

"Oh Yeah! Its go time!" Shatterman yelled as he blasted Cosmic Zoom, hitting his armor.

A swarm of insects surrounded Shatterman. They cover his face and body covering him in a near cloud of darkness. He could not see Cosmic Zoom moving toward him.

KABAM!

Cosmic Zoom struck him with his bastard sword, knocking him 10 feet into the park. Shatterman landed in the branches on a new by tree. Shatterman signaled he was okay. It was obvious he was trying to show he was doing better than he really was but he was still in the fight.

OOC: Don't faint but one reason I didn't post earlier is because I couldn't think of anything appropriate for Red Hawk to dialogue about under the current circumstances. His lack of knowledge and background means he's reacting on whatever the android version on instinct is or instructions from his mentors. They're a little busy. Holy cow enough 'players' on the field or what? :)

<Red Hawk: IC Response and Actions> Chris will keep his vibratory defenses active and move to cover Brian/Condor, hoping to give his mentor an opportunity to work on the bomb. If opportunity presents itself he will use his Action to make a dual attack on one of the three following targets. In order of priority. The hawk-like flyer, the giant sword wielded, or the insect guy. He will also try to use his tech-enhanced senses to find the illusionist how is causing so much havoc. "Condor handle the bomb. Shatterman and I can handle these guys."

Codename: Red Hawk: Its a Trap! - Issue 5

Location: Memorial Park in Our Fair City

“Yes, Hello! This is Office Nick Deans – I’m at the park”. Office Deans let go of his bicycle as he examined the bomb sitting before him. “We have a situation here at the park – in the Statuary. Someone has planted a bomb.” He wiped the sweat off his brow. His partner, Charlie Barrett, started moving bystanders away. “NO! I have not touched anything yet,” continued Dean. “The timer’s on ten minutes… there’s no way the bomb squad can make it here by then. Call the Masks! Call the Masks!” Officer Barrett moved people toward the gate, but try as he might, it would not open.

** Earlier on the other side of the park **

Knowing you can do something spectacular, and finally getting a chance to do it can be worlds apart. For the first time as Chris Eagle, Red Hawk knew what it meant to fly. The wind rushed through his hair as he raced Shatterman, soaring around the park. A smile on his face he looked to his purple clad companion. Dennis has the edge, but it’s so close we’d have to fly a few miles for anyone to notices the difference. The two were reveling in unadulterated speed, when Chris noticed Brian waving the two of them over toward the park’s memorial statues.

As Condor led them toward the police officers, Red Hawk’s advanced optical sensors and auditory processors picked up the officer’s stress as he called in the bomb threat. “A bomb?” As the three costumed fliers land near the officers to get a clear understanding of the threat, Red Hawk realized he has no practical knowledge to help with the handling of a bomb. Looking around for some way to help, he noticed Officer Barrett moving people toward an exit gate, but try as he might, the officer could not open the portal.

Tapping Dennis on the shoulder he pointed to the exit gate. Moving quickly through the throng of scared people, Red Hawk flashed Officer Barrett his shiny new DSA card, “May I help?” Examining the gate carefully Chris decided simply breaking the latching mechanism might be the easiest, least violent way to get the gate open. After informing the officer of his intentions, his hand started to blur as he tried to tightly focus his Vibratory Powers. “You might want to have everyone step back a bit.”

Careful inspection did not reveal anything unique in the latch. Confident it was safe to make the attempt his hand vibrated faster. To Red Hawk’s surprise the gate started to blur as well. It rippled from his hand and spread outward across the whole gate.  He searched his memory for any other times that metal had behaved this way. The only memory he could retrieve was the motion that water would make when a rock was dropped in it. Red Hawk turned his head and gave a quizzical look to Officer Barrett.

The Officer peered into the waves of metal. “Don’t stop, Red Hawk. I can see something beyond the gate.  It is the REAL gate! This is just an illusion!”

“Don’t stop making the waves Red Hawk; we can use it to see our way through”. Quickly Officer Barrett moved the citizens in single file through the waves. They were able to see the difference between the illusion and reality because of the vibrations causing waves in the illusion.  Soon all the people and Officer Barrett evacuated the park.

Red Hawk returned to join his friends. From the distance he can see Condor hard at work on bomb. Suddenly a yellow mist cloud ejected from it.  Condor and Shatterman were coughing and wheezing but do not appear injured. The two heroes quickly look toward each other. Red Hawk can tell they are thinking, “Is that all this was? It must be a trap”.

Shatterman surveyed the area around him quickly. He spotted a large 24 foot oak tree moving toward them. He raised his hand and blasted.

BLAZZT!

The power ray struck the large tree. It didn’t fall. There was no shattering of bark or splintering of wood.  The tree swung an extra long limb at Shatterman!

BAM!

The limb smashed into Shatterman. He was struck hard. He flew backwards 35 feet landing in the tennis courts. He landed hard in the netting. Shatterman sat up and rubbed his head.

Condor yelled, “Red Hawk watch out for yourself! That tree must be trying to get us away from the bomb. There has to be more to it. I must make sure it is truly disabled and figure out who created it.” Condor ripped off two side panels.

From the other direction of the moving oak tree flew a giant insect. Red Hawk realized it as a man in an insect costume. It had been a bush a few moments before.  The insect man flew toward Condor from behind him. Raising a hand, insect man pointed his index finger at Condor.

TWIPT! TWIPT! TWIPT! TWIPT!

Small darts hit the bomb and the ground but missed Condor. Condor turned around. “SWARMaster! What is B.A.D. doing here? This isn’t your M.O. Did someone hire you to protect it?”

As Red Hawk flew closer toward Condor, he noticed he didn’t feel the sun shining on him anymore. Before he would have dismissed it as clouds but with an illusionist in the area he didn’t. He turned in time to see a man in a hawk suit diving down at him.  Red Hawk quickly started vibrating his body, hoping that hawk guy would just pass through him.

Unfortunately for the young hero, his opponent didn’t intend to slam into him.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The sonic scream from the hawk guy ripped through his defenses. To his shock it didn’t damage him but started to shut down his systems.  {GM Note: It was a sonic attack but it caused paralysis not damage}

Red Hawk fought to stay awake and to land safely. As he fell to the ground he saw a bush blast Condor. The energy ray struck his armor so Condor was uninjured.

{GM Note: Red Hawk rolled a “1” on his wake up roll at the end of the turn so it was played out as his never losing consciousness.}

Red Hawk: reaction revision 4.1

Knowing you can do something spectacular, and finally getting a chance to do it can be worlds apart. For the first time as Chris Eagle, Red Hawk knows what it means to fly. The wind rushes through his hair as he races Shatterman, soaring around the park. A smile on his face he looks to his purple clad companion. Dennis has the edge, but it’s so close we’d have to fly a few miles for anyone to notices the difference. The two are reveling in unadulterated speed, when Chris notices Brian waving the two of them over toward the park’s memorial statues.

As Condor leads them toward the police officers, Red Hawk’s advanced optical sensors and auditory processors pick up the officer’s stress as he calls in the bomb threat. “A bomb?” As the three costumed fliers land near the officers to get a clear understanding of the threat, Red Hawk realizes he has no practical knowledge to help with the handling of a bomb. Looking around for some way to help, he notices Officer Barrett moving people toward an exit gate, but try as he might, the officer could not open the portal.

Tapping Dennis on the shoulder he points to the exit gate. Moving quickly through the throng of scared people, Red Hawk flashes Officer Barrett his shiny new DSA card, “May I help?” Examining the gate carefully Chris decides simply breaking the latching mechanism might be the easiest, least violent way to get the gate open. After informing the officer of his intentions, his hand starts to blur as he tries to tightly focus his Vibratory Powers. “You might want to have everyone step back a bit.”

<Red Hawk IC: Actions> He will carefully examine the gate using his Detect Hidden to understand why it won’t open. Something just feels strange about the gate exit not being able to open just as a bomb is found in the area. If He doesn’t find anything and his Detect Danger doesn’t warn him of any traps, Red Hawk will try to shatter the gate’s latch by using as carrier attack on the locking mechanism. If he does detect a boobie trap, then he’ll notify the officer and his mentors and ask for ideas of what to do next.

OOC: Okay the truth is out DS isn’t the paranoid one, his player is. Maybe I had an abusive DM as a kid, or maybe too many action adventure shows where one trap is just the set up for a worse one as the crowd runs to a choke point. LOL Regardless there we have it. Red Hawk’s first official superhero reaction.

Codename: Red Hawk: Styling - Issue 4

Location: Department of Superpower Affairs – Megalopolis Offices

The sound of jet engines roar overhead, “Chris” looks up and saw two CHESS sky-cycles zip through the city’s skyline.

Looking back down at the over-sized gym back holding the faux Freedom Eagle uniform, Chris felt a longing to be up there with the CHESS Knights. They soared through the sky every day hunting those who would prey on the innocent, the weak . . . but then what? Smiling at the playful banter between Brian and Dennis “Brian, you need to get out of that classroom more …” Chris thought about that. Brian taught, Dennis had his music, even the CHESS Knights in the sky probably had a life outside of serving the public. I have so much to learn. Not just at StarCorp. Not even just about myself. I have a whole world to learn about. I guess using my abilities to protect innocent people from villains like the Crushers can’t be a bad way to start.

Chris sat in the back of the jeep, the wind in his face as they cross the bridge leading from Central City into Soiree Heights. Central City was financially rich. Soiree Heights was a city of opulence. They even had the ability to pay heroes to protect them. “… freaking mercenaries … Chris has more … “ came Dennis’s voice from the front seat. Chris thought about Dennis’s tone of voice. Being three days old he wasn’t sure, but he suspected neither Dennis nor Brian were comfortable with him yet. I can’t blame them really. I show up claiming to be one of this world’s most beloved superheroes … returned from the grave, the same hero who passed his powers and legacy on to them. I would think they’d want to destroy me, not offer to mentor me.

Chris saw their destination just ahead and was surprised as Brian drove past the elegant store front with the marquee sign marked Stitches. Puzzled he turned back around, but before Chris could ask Dennis was twisting backwards to tell him, “We can’t just go through the front door can we? It would give away the secret identity of any of us she does special commissions for. You have to have an appointment and special password for the entrance in the parking garage. I hear she only takes one special appointment on any given day as a security measure . . . We can’t all be like the mighty Joshua Rose and just pop in anywhere anytime we want.” Chris wasn’t sure, but he thought Dennis might not like his future employer very much.

The jeep pulled up to the gate to the private parking garage. Brian leaned over and punched in the password they had given him at StarCorp for Red Hawk. Supposedly it alerted Ms. Stitch that her appointment had arrived and would be entering through the special entrance in just a few minutes. The three men piled out of the old jeep and walked across the cool concrete. Chris’s tech-heightened senses detected the numerous electronic security devices installed throughout the garage as Dennis pushed the button to open the elevator doors. He chuckled softly. “Why am I not surprised Dennis liked pushing buttons?” Both Dennis and Brian look back astonished at Chris’s laughter. At the same time both ask “What’s so funny?”

Startled by his own ability to find humor in something so small, Chris smiled sheepishly, “Just excited I guess.”

The waiting room was beautiful.

Assistants came in quietly and efficiently. They took the old costume and Chris’s measures without word or attempt at conversation.  After they left the room, Ms Stitch walked in.

“Welcome to my place. Dennis and Brian it is great to have you back again.  It is a pleasure to meet you Chris …? ”

“Eagle”

Brian and Dennis replied in unison. They quickly glanced at each other and nodded a knowing smile.

“Ah, yes, it is a pleasure to meet you Chris Eagle. Come let me show you my creations.”

Five hours later they settled on the new Red Hawk costume.

Both Brian and Dennis were pleased with Chris’s selection. Brain said, “Now let’s go see how she handles.  The perfect place is Memorial Park in Our Fair City.”

They quickly paid their respects and bill, courtesy of StarCorp, and left the premises.  In less than an hour they were all at the park and in their respective costumes as Shatterman, Condor, and Red Hawk.

They enjoyed flying in the park with Condor spotted something with was out of place. Shatterman and Red Hawk followed him. It was a new statue or was it?

As they neared they could hear the person on the bicycle next to statue.

Red Hawk

I thought we might share something of where we each thought this was going. I wasn't sure what you were expecting from me as far as input. With Street Patrol you had already done quite a bit of prep work. I really was trying to create something of that power level with the pistol wielding "angel" and kid speedster but was kept missing the mark I guess. Red Hawk (to me) seems at least Crusader maybe even Quest. On par with Cure and maybe even Magnus. That is a pretty cool couple of characters.

Back on topic. I assume your having to do more fly by seat of your pants for Red. Is there anything expectations of me I can improve upon? I'm reluctant to write anything for the two Icons. Like Doc, Bird, and Donnah. I feel those are your characters and always feel it best to get approval permission to put words actions to those characters.

Just spit balling during lunch

GM

I see this as Solo Play at the Crusader level. On Condor and Shatterman, I don’t feel strong ownership of them. If you want to play them like you have been playing Trish and Professor I am cool with it. I have been playing them to enrich your gaming experience. I will take as much ownership of them as you want me to.

On the expectations I am not really putting a lot on it. This is your open sandbox to have as much fun as you want. I will follow your lead on what kind of adventures he has. I will limit how much larger impact to Megalopolis he has. He won’t be world building like DarkStar has.

Where the closest Marvel equivalent to DarkStar is Iron Man or Mr. Fantastic for Red Hawk it is going to be Spider-man or Captain America.

Best

Red Hawk

Hey T-man

Not in any particular order - For me I'd prefer not play with Shatterman and Condor too much really. Small things like the car ride is one thing but how they mentor him and stuff I'm not comfortable with that. It's why I asked for your input for Doc and Nigel at the card game. I'd rather not even have the temptation to "world build". That is not what Red Hawk is suppose to be about.

I do thing in his process of learning to be Chris (still needs a last name) and Red Hawk it would be fun - hopefully for both of us - to explore areas on the Megalopolis Universe that Quest, Crusade, and Street Patrol aren't designed for. Things like Freedom Eagle's lair, bringing the Spyder to justice if he hasn't been apprehended, interaction with the Super Society. I know you don't have heroes that work specifically for CHESS but maybe Red Hawk can work close with MPD or something?

Just some random thoughts going on there.

btw: I kind of like the Spider-Man comparison. Spidey' cool and all but never was a big fan of Peter Parker for some reason. Which is funny considering my psych-driven playing style. Double the irony with the fact I'm really itching to take Red out for a spin and see how he performs in a combat. Me jonesing for a combat scene - I think something just got a little chilly  (lol)

Later Tom - Thanks for Red Hawk I think he's going to be a blast

Hey Tom

OOC: I took some of what you didn't use last time and reworked it. I went with the direction you set of taking the Freedom Eagle uniform to Ms. Stitch for "alterations".  I tried to imagine some of the precautions she might have to take as a meta-designer. If it doesn't work for you just adjust as needed. For fun I slipped you a couple of Downloads concerning Ms. Stitch's. May or may not work for you.
